ITunes Radio on Apple TV Automatically Skips through Artists/Songs

Recently when listening to iTunes Radio through my Apple TV it will just start skipping through artists between songs. Sometimes when a song ends a new one will start with no problem. Most times though, it will just start scanning through artists/songs, sometimes scanning through 20-30+ artists before it plays the next song. This just started yesterday and I have the latest update installed. Any clues?

I am having the same problem.  Here is some info:
ISP:  Cox
Router:  ASUS RT-AC68U
Computer:  PC Running Windows 7 in 64-bit mode
iTunes:  12.1.2.27
AppleTV:  7.2
iTunes Radio on the PC would just flat out not work.  It would load the song name into the status bar and then just sit there.  You could skip songs and change radio stations with no results.
iTunes Radio on the AppleTVs (I have 2 of them) would work for the first song, then skip 20-30 songs until settling on one to play.  Curiously, it was consistently either the same song again or another song from a group of 3-4 artists.  If left running long enough, it would play only the same 5-6 songs from the same 3-4 artists.  This phenomenon was the same across multiple days of use.
I tried changing my iTunes password, updating my iTunes contact and payment information, flushing and changing DNS servers multiple times, and running trace routes via the Command prompt to check for excessive latency issues.  Nothing.  The only thing that worked was forcing my AppleTV devices to connect to my hot-spotted cellphone (Verizon) and that worked every time.
One thing that HAS worked is to disable the hardware firewall on my router.  So far, so good.
Can anyone from Apple tell me if I can setup certain ports to forward within the router (or something else) so I can re-enable the HW firewall, yet still use iTunes radio successfully?

I don't recognise the symptoms as such, but here are a couple of things to try.
    Check all tracks
Unchecked tracks are skipped during normal track to track playback. Go to the Songs view and CTRL-click on an empty checkbox, or CTRL-click on a filled one twice. This will ensure all tracks are checked.
    Repair permissions
To make sure that your iTunes folder (or media folder if located separately) has the correct permissions, right-click on the folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but later versions of Windows shouldn't be too different.
You can also clear the Read-Only flag for the entire library from the Properties dialog.

  • Skipping through the songs...

I have had some struggles with my iPod since it was synched with a dying laptop PC computer. After a lot of restores and resets, it seems to be back now. I am now using a different PC desktop successfully with my iTunes. However, I have had a recurrent problem...I live for the Shuffle...so I start Shuffling randomly through my Library and after, say, 3 songs that play normally the iPod begins to skip through the songs rapidly (with the elapsed time of the song always at 0:00 and not proceeding). If I choose a song specifically, then this one song plays but it tries to proceed alphabetically after that and again just skips rapidly through a lot of songs without stopping. If I power it off and back on, it is still in this skipping mode. I have to reset it or resynch it with my computer to get back to temporary functioning again. At first I thought this was related to a new car adaptor I bought, which plugs the long narrow slot at the base of the iPod to my car lighter for both charging and FM radio transmission, because this skipping happens every time in my car. However, it also happens, though less consistently, with just regular play just through the headphones.
So, is this is a common problem? Is it likely a sign the iPod itself is damaged? Or a holdover from my synching-to-the-computer problems?
    Thanks
    Michael

I am having the same issue with my iPod skipping through all songs that I have downloaded from iTunes and only playing the CD uploads. I just have to plug it into my PC and it will refresh from the iTunes but that doesn't do me a lot of good if I am traveling. Anyone with suggestions on how to correct this?

  • ITunes Radio Automatically Skips through Songs

When listening to iTunes Radio through my AppleTV 3, iPhone 6, iPad 3, and iMac 2013 iTunes Radio will just start skipping through songs. The current song plays through to the end, but then starts scanning through 20-30+ songs before playing the same song that just played. This happens on every station I have created, and also on the suggested featured stations.
This just started yesterday after updating to iOS 8.2. I logged out of iTunes on all devices and signed back in, but the problem persisted. I also rebooted all devices with still no luck. My Husband is also having the same issue on his iPhone 5 and iPad 3 under a different iTunes account.
I happened to be out of Wifi range on my iPhone and tried iTunes Radio and surprisingly the skipping stopped. The minute I got back into Wifi range the skipping would start up again after the current song ends. So it seems like it has something to do with my Wifi which are run off of an AirPort Time Capsule and Extreme (all up to date). I rebooted my modem and AirPort’s thinking there was some weird config issue, but the skipping was still happening. I have not changed anything with my internet provider and have more than enough bandwidth.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix or further troubleshoot?

Hmmm, Cox must be blocking something. I'll try to call them when I get home, but I don't have high hopes dealing with them.
I also found another thread talking about the same issue.
"I already contacted apple about this and the persons that helped me told me they took the matter up to the engineering department.  So now I'm just waiting on a reply back.  Hopefully, they can get this fixed up."

  • HT4539 Auto Download of Music Purchased on iTunes Radio on Apple TV?

I have a fair amount of experience with iTunes automatic downloads and use it all the time with my purchases.  I am now running iTunes 11.1.1 and experimenting with iTunes Radio.  Also using iTunes Radio on our Apple TV running through our home theater system audio speakers.  All works well.
But the other evening I found a song on iTunes Radio playing via the Apple TV that we liked, clicked on the buy button for the first time to try out the purchase routine and all progressed normally. (Yes, the Apple TV is associated with the same Apple ID.)  The receipt came to my Apple ID account as it should but the two computers (iMac and MacBook Pro) associated with the same Apple ID never auto downloaded the new music track as they normally do when I buy on one of the computers. All computers are authorized in iTunes.  I checked "Store>Check For Available Downloads" in the computers' iTunes applications (again iTunes 11 on both) and it says all available downloads are complete.  But I am still missing the new track in the iTunes library that I've paid for.  Any ideas?

OK, I seem to have solved this after working through a few related support articles. Here's what I did:
    1. I searched for the missing song track using the instructions in Apple support article (TS1408) via the Finder and could not find it, either in my properly located (and full) iTunes Media folder, or anywhere else on my hard drive (I did a global search as well).
    2.  I then proceeded to a second article about re-downloading purchased content (HT2519).  At Step 4 (in the section for iTunes 11 or later) it says to be sure you have "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases" selected in the iTunes>Store Preferences pane.  I checked there and I did not have it selected on either of my two computers (for good reason since I have never done any such Cloud purchases before).  Anyway, as soon as I selected that and closed the Preferences pane my iTunes library window updated itself automatically and there was the song in question with an iCloud symbol beside it.  I clicked on the song and it began to play, presumably from the Cloud.  I then clicked the cloud symbol next to the track and iTunes quickly downloaded the song into my library on my desktop iMac.  I took the same steps on my second Mac computer with the same successful results.  There was no additional charge for the downloads, as I had already bought it via my Apple TV.
I have not attempted to duplicate this yet since I have had no need to buy another song via iTUnes Radio on my Apple TV.  But it did fix the problem I had at the start of this thread.  Appreciate any feedback from others if they try this.

  • Itunes radio on apple tv plays same song

So my Apple TV is being a little weird
Its on Variety, but will skip through tons of songs and just play the same one over and over. (I.e. Girl Crush by Little Big Town on the Country Top 50 station).
I've already done both a RESTART and a RESET, and it still has the same problem, even with other stations.
    Any suggestions??

  • ITunes Radio on Apple TV still has commercials.

I signed up for iTunes Radio a few hours ago, and since that time I tried it on my Apple TV and have found that it still has commercials on it (no unlimited skips either, but apparently Apple has since changed their mind on that perk). I've since signed out of my iTunes account as wel as reset the unit, still to no avail. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

I was not, no. I searched prior threads on this and all that it said was that the way to turn iTunes Match on was inside of Settings. Apparently Apple has changed this with more recent updates, so that's why I wasn't able to find it. I did however locate it and was able to get iTunes Match up and running.
    1. Go to Settings->Restrictions.
    2. Ensure that "Music" is set to show in the list of Apps (mine was set to Hide).
    3. Click on Music, and then choose Turn on iTunes Match.
    4. iTunes match will activate and then begin to Synchronize your playlist.
I don't know how I'll update the list in the future, but we'll jump off that bridge when I come to it.
    Thanks for all your help!

  • IPod skips through all songs and isn't properly recognized in iTunes

I have 30gb iPod video and it skips through all the songs and then goes back to the menu. Occasionally I can get it to stop skipping through and play part of one song. I have reset it several times. Also, when I plug it in to the computer it appears in iTunes as the name of my iPod Nano. I really don't want to lose all the songs on my iPod because it was my sister's iPod and she recently passed away. Most of the songs on here she put on and I don't want to lose those songs... Is there a way I can get the songs off my iPod onto my computer and then restore the iPod? Or is there a good way I can fix the problem?

i'll have a go at this one:
Also, when I plug it in to the computer it appears in iTunes as the name of my iPod Nano.
that can be caused by a Windows drive letter confusion. are the techniques from this document of any help with that?
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • ITunes Radio on Apple TV - turning off "are you still listening"

    Hey all,
I had a question about something that's been annoying me. Is there a way to turn off the "Are you still listening" prompt in Apple TV for iTunes Radio?  I sure hope so, anyone had any luck with this?

Thank you for your reply, however, that wasn't what I needed a response for. I was wondering if there was a way to get rid of that prompt all together and just have iTunes Radio continue playing continuously until I ask it to stop. Its very inconvenient for me to have iTunes Radio stop every two hours, sometimes I'm not close to the computer, and it interrupts my workflow. Does anyone know if there is an answer to this question?

  • Stop iTunes radio from playing music automatically

Whenever I sync my 4S to bluetooth, music starts automatically.  Perhaps this is iTunes Radio?  Any tips for how to stop this from happening?  I have seen many folks griping about this on the internet, and NO answer short of deleting all music.  That seems excessive.  I want access to my music occasionally.  But not always, and NEVER automatically.

I have the same issue.  Was attending a major conference, sitting in the VIP section, and suddenly in the middle of the keynote address, I heard music playing, coming from my leather bag.  Struggled to turn it off quickly before disrupting the event, but alas I wasn't quick enough.  Also have the new iPad.  Have tried everything, but it keeps launching sometime after I close the cover.  Need a solution, please!

  • When trying to play a song from a play list on my phone it automatically skips to another song

This is happening on my ipod and iphone; I'll select a song to start playing from a playlist and it automatically skips ahead 1-3 songs and starts playing, and whenever I try to play that song it does it again. Some songs we put into itunes from disks and some were bought from itunes and it doesn't seem to discriminate against either type and it's really bugging the crap out of me! Just started about a week ago....any suggestions? clues?

It could be because of a corrupted song. Usually a resync will solve this issue. Try the following form of troubleshooting to find out which song is corrupted.
Select Manually Manage Music and Media (or videos, can't recall which). Select half of your library and sync it to one device, and sync the other half to the other device. Play the songs and see which device skips. If only one skips, then it means that the half of the library that you synced to that device contains the song causing the problems. Split that half of the library in half and keep repeating the syncing/testing/splitting process until you find the song. Then delete/redownload the song. If both skip then it may be multiple songs.

  • Forwards and backwards buttons in Itunes 8 only skip through recent songs

I'm having a problem with Itunes 8 on Vista.
When I switch to traditional table view, and play a song, and click forwards/backwards button then it only goes forwards/backwards through songs in order of the most recently added to my itunes, not the order as shown on screen.
When i try this on a playlist, the forwards/backwards buttons don't do anything at all.
Makes it next to impossible to use to play albums, etc.
Shuffle is turned off, it's possible this started after I installed the genius thing, but it might have been broken from the start. New PC so new install of Itunes 8, no previous version installed.
    Any clues?

Problem solved. Deauthorized PC, removed library, reinstalled, re-added library and reauthorized PC.

  • Listening to iTunes radio station and I haven't heard a song from them yet

Like I've been listnening to Flux Pavilion Radio like every day and I haven't heard a song from them yet is this intended?

Just to clarify - When I requested my unlock from AT&T, I received an email from them that my unlock was approved.  I verified with Apple that the unlock request had been processed, and then I just had to restore my phone.  You can call Applecare at 800-694-7466 and ask them if your carrier has processed your request to unlock the phone.  If not, you will need to contact the carrier again (as Gail pointed out - it is the carrier who unlocks the phone).

  • Itunes purchased music cuts out half way through a song.

Hello. I recently purchased two albums off the Itunes store and found that in some tracks the music completely "cuts-out". About 30 seconds of the song plays, then the rest of the track is silent. It happens on both Itunes and on my Ipod. I haven't a clue what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    It worked, Thanks!

  • TS3217 When I try to skip one song on my ipone, it skips through several. The songs that are skipped can be played on the same iphone if I go into my itunes and select that song. So this tells me that the song can be played, therefore, it is not the song.

When I try to skip through a song on my iPhone, it skips through several songs. The songs that are skipped can be played on the same iphone (when I go into to itunes library on my phone), so I know that it's not the song. I have the latest softeware downloaded on both my iphone and itunes. In fact, this only recently started occuring when I reconnected my iphone to my laptop about a month ago to install the new updates on itunes.
I also have an itouch and an ipod, both of which have been updated at the same time as my iphone and they do not skip through songs.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
