ITunes randomly opening

for some reason, my iTunes has decided to open about every 2 minutes when it isn't supposed to be open..
does anyone know why?

Do you mean 'open' as in:
1. "It isn't running at all, then suddenly starts running of its own volition"
or 'open' as in:
2. "It is running, but its window has been miniaturized, then suddenly it springs open from the dock".
One reason iTunes might spring to life in the first case is through applescript. iTunes will start if a script or another application tries to communicate with iTunes through applescript. Not sure about the second case.

  • ITunes Randomely opens by itself

My iTunes automatically opens all by iself when i try to close it. Once I close it, about 2 minutes later it opens again. I can't get it to stay closed and this problem is really starting to irritate me, I don't know what could be the problem and why it started doing it. i just recently downloaded iTunes 7, and about 3 days into using it this started.

It is not likely that iTunes is opening itself. Clearly something on your computer is making a call. Those posting here - 'likewise' - have something in common, talk it out.
    When does this happen?
    You say random!
If you start your computer and do nothing else, hands off after hitting the power on button, does iTunes eventually open? If so, then look at what you have set-up to open or occur with start-up. If not, then selectively introduce some of your past actions one at a time and wait.
    Please share your findings.

  • ITunes randomly opens

For some reason iTunes keeps randomly opening every few minutes. At first i thought it was becuase it was looking for shared libraries but i made sure to disable that. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Ok, I had this problem too and did two different things and it stopped.
First I opened Dashboard and closed my iTunes widget. I don't think that was the solution, but I did it anyway.
More likely however, I went into iTunes preferences and went to "sharing" and turned off "look for shared libraries".
Thats stopped it (for now at least). I'm running iTunes 7.3.2, I assume you are too. This is a weird bug though, because iTunes wasn't doing this before tonight and now it is... I haven't downloaded any software updates either.
If this starts back up again for me I'll post it. If it doesn't fix it for you, post it too. I sent an email to Apple about it a few moments ago, so I hope I can get a straight answer there.

  • ITunes Randomly Opening up

    Hi,
For some reason randomly iTunes now will just open up. I will have it running, switch a song maybe, and close the window. And then randomly it will just open the window up again. I don't know why, and there is no real pattern. It has just started, so I don't know if it has to do with the update or what. But I will be typing and look up and the darn window is open and I realize none of my typing has been registered.
    Any thoughts?

Manually synced, not everything is on my library is on my iPod, my iPod will be sycned, I'll be playing music off of it, and I'll exit the window, (music still playing) and then it will open up sometime afterwards for no reason. Then if I put my computer to sleep, when I reopen it, ipod connects, but it has ! mark next to any song you try and play. So I have to close iTunes completely and then reopen it, then it works. It will still open up even if my ipod is not connected to my computer. The songs on the computer still play, but not on my ipod (gets cut off, like it should). It's not opening because of my iPod syncing, because it will be synced for hours and it still will do it (like I said I'll be playing music off it).
    Thanks,

  • Itunes randomly opening every 5 minutes

my itunes keeps on opening randomly every 5 minutes or so. it's happened before and I fixed it but i can't remember how!!! any ideas?

Disable any third-party iTunes-related apps or widgets, including the iTunes Dashboard widget.

  • Itunes Randomly Opens Automatically

I will quit itunes, then be surprised a few minutes later when the application pops up on my screen again. I have downloaded 7.6 but this problem still occurs. any help?

Hmmm, In my case you may be right! I thought I had got rid of the TuneView software, but I never bothered to check after I deleted the folder out of Applications. The TVUSB Daemon is still running and its source is /Library/Application Support/Keyspan/TVUSB. I will get rid of this and see if my problem goes away. The TVUSB Daemon should not be starting iTunes on its own... that is if it is working correctly.

  • Since downloading IOS 5 Itunes keeps randomly opening up  and popping up on my desktop screen, not just when I turn on computer but randomly even though I sign out of itunes. How can I stop this from happning

After installing ios5, itunes randomly opens up on my desktop on my laptop computer. Not just when I start my computer but when I'm on it. itunes just opens. I've searched settings in itunes and my desktop and don't know where to go to stop this from happening. itunes will just open. I've rebooted laptop and tried signing out of itunes and it still happens. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this stop??

While it is clearly the wifi syncing that is causing it, the device almost never shows up in the device list, and I've already unchecked that box.  I have two devices that I'd love to wifi sync, but neither show up today on the device list, despite iTunes continually popping up every 5 minutes or so.  Buggy...

  • ITunes 8 keeps randomly opening when I don't want it to.

I just downloaded the new iTunes 8 yesterday, and today while working on my computer, iTunes Randomly opens up when i don't click on it or anything. is there anyway to make this stop or how can i get the old version of itunes back?

I have to agree. I've been using iTunes/iPods exclusively for listening to podcasts since 2008, and within the past year it's just gotten increasingly frustrating and confusing to use both iTunes and my iPod for this purpose. I just found this thread because my iPod auto-deleted a podcast that I'd only listened to for 10 minutes; and I don't want it to ever delete podcasts without my consent. Truly infuriating.

  • ITunes randomly starting up??

    Hey-
I just got my new MacBook about 1 month ago. Just recently I've had a problem with iTunes randomly opening up. I've tried quitting it multiple times, but it will just open up again. What can I do to stop this from happening??
    Thanks

The most obvious reason is an iTunes related Widget.
Disable it or them and see if it helps.

  • ITunes 8.02 Randomly Opening in Mac OS 10.4.11

iTunes 8 is automatically and randomly opening without clicking the icon in the Dock/Finder.I also notice a network slow down when this happens - specifically my internet connection (via AirPortt) slows down drastically.
    Any ideas?

It's probably a third-party app or a widget (check the Dashboard, too) that is forcing iTunes to open. Look for the culprit and disable it.

  • ITunes repeatedly opens and plays songs at random

I don't know what's going on, but iTunes is just opening at random and beginning to play music. Frequently it will open again as soon as I quit, but other times it takes a few minutes.
I've been made aware that iTunes Helper occasionally will strike a false positive, think it's detected a new device, and cause iTunes to open. Quitting out of it in Activity Monitor doesn't help; within a few minutes, both iTunes and iTunes Helper will open again.
Sometimes the selection of music will change WHILE I'm trying to legitimately use iTunes to listen to music.
24 hours ago I didn't have this problem. Can someone please tell me what is going on here? Is somebody else's wifi signal interfering with mine, or is that even possible?

Note: Sure enough, it happened again. At least it didn't start autoplaying this time. I checked Console to see if anything iTunes-related cropped up, and here's what I found:

  • When connected via USB, my Ipod Classic 160GB mounts as a disc drive, then changes to a white drive.  When iTunes automatically opens, it crashes trying to mount and/ or sync.  When it times out, my only choice is to restore, but that doesn't fix problem.

I'm running OS 10.6.8 on my 3.06 GHz iMac Intel Core 2 Duo.   I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2.  I'm not sure when the trouble started but I attempted a restore when the iPod would not play correctly.  It would start to play a file and get stuck on 0 seconds.  If I put the iPod on shufle, it will stall on 0 seconds for 15 seconds or so and then move on to the next track and stall again and so on.   Seemingly randomly, it will play a few tracks but eventually start skipping again.  This will continue until the battery is depleted which is fairly quick since the drive is constantly spinning.
My 160GB iPod Classic after restore attempts now is up to date with 2.0.4. and of course, nothing works as it should and I would say the skipping issue is worse than ever.
When I connect with any of three USB connectors, the iPod mounts to the desktop as a grey/silver disk drive picon exactly like the Macintosh HD picon.   Then Finder will stall for a few minutes- spinning pinwheel.  Somehow, the dock is never affected and I am able to open other applications like Safari or tab through open windows- just no action on the desktop.  Eventually, iTunes automatically opens and Finder becomes responsive again.  At this point the grey drive picon on the desktop becomes a white drive mount picon, but the iPod does not mount in iTunes, yet.  At some point, the iPod attempts to sync, iTunes crashes with the spinning pinwheel and eventually times out and I am prompted to restore the iPod again.  Once restored,  the iPod properly mounts under devices in iTunes and, as I have done this several times, even occasionally changes to the regular iPod picon on the desktop.
I have restored several times going as far a completely deleting iTunes from my iMac, downloading the latest directly from Apple.com, and attempting to restore again, but to no avail.
I have even used the disk utility to verify and/or repair my Macintosh HD and iPod.
It seems lots of folks are going through this ordeal.  Has anyone had any success in fixing the issue, even if only temporarily?

one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file.  Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing  even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer.   Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar.     Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
    Ideas?

    HI,
First, there are no Mac viruses in the wild.
recently random sites have had a warning message thing come up that looks like a Norton Anti-virus telling me to run my browser in 'safe' mode or something.
So far it hasn't really done anything malicious, but I'd like to stop it before it does.
The file is an .exe file and unless you are running a Windows partition on your Mac, the Mac OS X cannot open those files. You're OK! If you are running Windows then you would need anti virus software, but it would be installed on the Windows partition, not the Mac OS X.
Nothing to be worry about. They are trying to get your to purchase anti virus software. Norton a/v for a Mac is the worst thing you could install. It's invasive and impossible to UNinstall.
You are running Snow Leopard... read here.

  • ITunes keeps opening automatically

I've been gone for the past 2 weeks on Christmas vacation
I came home yesterday, turned on my mac, and iTunes keeps opening by itself randomly.
It was fine before I left.
    It's so annoying!
    Any help?

Hello--Forgive the delay but I was away for a while after posting...Nothing seems to trigger the problem. I open iTunes, listen, close it. And then it starts re-opening. Every time I quit, it re-opens within seconds. (I have not noticed anything like another app being open that triggers it.) I hope this is helpful.

  • ITunes keeps opening by itself and playing music.

My iTunes keeps randomly opening up by itself and playing music. When it happens, I quit the app and it stops for the day, but it will happen again randomly. Like days or weeks later. I don't know why my computer has decided to start doing this recently, but it's really getting on my nerves.

Sooo annoying. And STILL not fixed.
