ITunes randomly skips a song

Hello all, I have a question that I haven't seen on here before...
I added some music to my library and when I play a certain song, iTunes just skips to the next song. It skips at exactly 11 seconds every time. If I skip past 11 seconds it skips still to the next song unless it's past around 1:00 minute. I've tried reloading the song and it still does it.
I'm also having this problem with my iPod classic with different songs (but for these songs it does not occur on the iTunes). Anyone know how to fix it??

I tried that with one song and it charged me for it.  I've got hundreds of songs my new iMac won't play! Help!
If you purchased the song from the iTunes Store go to your purchase history and re-download it from there. You will not be charged again.

  • HT1349 iTunes randomly skips hlaf a song in the middle of playing them, how do I change this?

While playing a song, iTunes randomly skips to the next song. This only happens with cirtian songs and I'm using a pc if that makes a difference. Is there a setting somewhere where I can turn this action off? This does not happen with my other computer.
Can someone explain why this is happening and how I can it to stop doing that? Thanks

Now, is it synced via wireless or USB?
When I upgraded my 4 to iOS 7, I had that very problem. The phone said all my music was on it, but when I tapped on a song, it would show the icon as though it was playing and after a couple if seconds, it would skip to the next song.
Here's what I did: Reconnect and do another sync. Or, back-up your phone, do a restore and then trying syncing your files again.
    I hope this helps

  • ITunes Randomly Skipping to Next Track

Just upgraded to the latest iTunes (9.0.3), and every single one of my songs skips.
Mostly happening around the 10 second mark, but it has been completely random also. The song displays the full length, but will randomly skip to the next track. I have been able to drag to anywhere in any song and have it play, but sometime it will skip randomly after that.
I have never had this issue before, and have not found a solution. After exhaustive searching, I have found that this was a bug in iTunes 7, especially for Windows. Since neither of these things is true for me, I am very confused.
Nobody has yet provided a functional solution to this ridiculous problem, and other threads of this type have been locked.
I would like somebody to either give me a working solution, or for Apple to admit that it is a problem and release a patch, instead of locking threads and pretending it doesn't happen.

    Hi Dakota--
This is not a universal problem. For example, my iTunes will play for hours and hours and it will never skip.
I noticed in some posts you made to the other, already answered, thread that your iTunes library is on an external drive. And that you've had some problems with the files where you get error -36, which is a disk I/O error.
That could be caused by a problem with the external drive or the FireWire cable. First thing I would do is try a different FireWire cable. Also make sure the cable is seated firmly in both the computer and the drive.
If that doesn't help, post back and I'll help you see if we can figure out if there's a problem with the external drive.

  • My iTunes randomly cuts off songs at the end. I've tried to create a new library and reimport my old library, but to no avail. Can anyone help? :)?

Hi, I am using a MacBook Pro, and downloaded the new iTunes update. I have OS X Lion 10.7.4. It all of sudden is randomly cutting off some songs before the very end of the song. I've tried to read past posts and create new libraries and re-import the old one, but it doesn't seem to help. It is not all of my purchased songs, nor is it all of my downloaded from CD songs, it's just a particularly random set of songs (I haven't checked them all, but it happens every 5 songs or so when I play the whole library on shuffle). This never happened to me before with other versions of iTunes, and when I called the support line the guy says he has never heard of this problem before... !
I have 3000 songs, so I don't want to manually bring each one in again. I am also not super technologically brilliant, so if you have had this problem too and have a simple answer, please help !!!

I have a similar problem with Itunes - the funny thing is it only does it on my Mac and not my PC running Windows 7 - seems strange the Apple software runs better on a Windows computer.  There are other posts about this here on the forums that have been running for two years with no solution - and I was just about to buy a new Ipod - oh well.

  • ITunes sometimes skips mid-song

OS X, 10.9 here. iTunes (11.1.5) sometimes skips mid songs. These mp3s work fine on my iPhone. Solution?

I have the same problem, did you ever get a fix? Mine also seems associated with Firefox, like if I change a page in Firefox or hit a new link the music locks up.

  • Itunes playback skips imported songs

Recently I've been importing loads of my old cds to itunes, but when playing back on itunes, the song finishes then suddenly skips back and plays the last 20 seconds again before abruptly ending. This is a new problem, I've had my macbook pro for a couple or years, been updating itunes regularly etc.. and when importing cds has always been fine up until now. Any idea why?

Problem was with iTunes libary (xml) file and not Firefox. Once I rebuilt my library from scratch, iTunes no longer skipped.

  • ITunes Randomly Re-organizing Songs

I'm not sure if this is a bug or what it is, but lately when I've been clicking songs to play them, iTunes will rearrange the order of the songs on that CD.
If you're not sure what I mean, here's a picture:
here's the album before I've started playing one of the songs, in order according to the numbers I put in 'get info' - http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg155/Mo-Dilla/Picture1-12.jpg?t=1230092767
    and here's after I've started playing a song - http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg155/Mo-Dilla/Picture2-2.jpg?t=1230092825
Basically I have no idea why this might be happening. It's been happening to all CDs equally (ones purchased from the Itunes music store & ones which aren't), and it seems to happen randomly (meaning it doesn't happen with all CDs).
iTunes has also been randomly adding composer info to CDs which may or may not have had it before. I'll just click on a song and it'll start adding all the composer details.
The only reasons I could see why this might be happening is: 1) I recently started running the Zune software via VM Fusion and all of my songs have been added to the software through a shared folder. I'm guessing that somehow, maybe it's possible that this has caused problems with all my music files, but this seems highly unlikely seeing how all the Zune software does is take the music, make a copy of it, and add it to its own music folder. And 2) my music collection has gotten so large that iTunes is now incapable of keeping it organized (I'm currently at 9,332 items or 41.95gb)...
    Any help is much appreciated.

Okay I turned off that feature in the Zune software, which I think might've been the reason iTunes has been adding the composer info. But the issue I'm having with the song order is still there.
I did notice something else though. When I got rid of the album artwork column, the order of the songs went back to normal.
    Here's it before - http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg155/Mo-Dilla/Picture2-3.jpg?t=1230184559
    & after - http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg155/Mo-Dilla/Picture3.jpg?t=1230184638
And of course whenever I put the artwork column back, the list goes back to incorrect order.
If you have any more suggestions Chris they're much appreciated, but at this point I think I'm just gonna call Apple and see what they think.

  • Itunes 10.5 Purchased songs are skipping please HELP

Hi, I have a new Dell PC (a month old) with all drivers up to date, running Itunes 10.5.0.142. I also have a brand new Iphone 4s that I just got Wednesday. Everything seemed to be working well then all of the sudden, when playing Itunes on my PC some songs won't complete and they'll skip to the next song. The amount of time left is random. One song will skip with 1:09 to go and another will skip with :49 to go.
On the Iphone, the songs will also skip (at the exact same spot in the song) except the album art remains until the song "should really" complete and then finally the song that it had skipped to, information will appear.
For example, James Blunt's song Cry will skip with 1:09 to go but on my Iphone I will not see the lyrics of the next song until the Cry song finished at the time it should of (the clock is still ticking but the song has skipped ahead).
Much of my library is being affect, but NOT every song on affected albums.
MP3 Music that I imported from CD's is NOT being affected at . It appears to only be happening with AAC Audio Files with albums I have bought from the Apple Store.
Unfortuneatly this is rendering my library useless and reminding me why purchasing physical CD's still makes sense (and I haven't bought a flesh and blood CD since Itunes was born.)
What I have already done to try to fix it:
    I rebooted my PC
I reinstalled Itunes, I also redownloaded it in case my install file was corrupt
I unsynced the music on my Iphone and then resynced it again adding the songs back
I tryed the trick I found here in the forums that says to right click and create AAC version, the James Blunt Album is protected, I'm not allowed to do that
I went to GET INFO>OPTIONS and the start and stop blocks are NOT checked on any song in my library
Things I've done recently since the problem appeared:
I bought a ring-tone maker app and made 3 ringtones and synced them with my phone and I'm using them currently on my phone
(will try uninstalling all that right now)
I got a new Iphone, having had an android phone prior
Does anyone else have any ideas or any experience with this please???
Thanks so much for your input!

I'm livid too Dan and I haven't heard a word from anyone in support. Since this was called Apple Support Communities I assumed Apple Staff used it to offer support. I suppose that's wrong? I don't know if I'm waiting on an update to the software or if I've just lost hundreds of dollars invested in my music library. If I don't hear from someone soon, I'm done with music purchases on Itunes.
Does anyone know where I should ask for help if this isn't a support forum?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • ITunes 9.0 pausing when skipping a song off of a USB external drive

This is not random and is very much related to iTunes 9.0, because it didn't exist with 8.0. Or well, I could normally skip through 3-4 songs off the external HDD before a similar short pause, and I just always figured it was a normal buffer issue of the USB bus and its drivers. Besides, it was shorter than what I'm putting up with right now.
It could also have something to do with the following things:
    (1) the Iomega Prestige Portable drive (2)is attached to two ports of the hub in my HP LP2475W display, and (3)the hub also has the logitech cordless desktop for mac receiver hooked to it, and the hub itself is attached to the other one of the MacBook's two USB ports. The other one has my old LaCie Porsche now used for Time Machine backups. However, that should be irrelevant in this equation, while the only key factor would be iTunes 9.0 itself, as I've had it setup like this, and sometimes hooked up things like a USB scanner, point&shoot digicam, even my Razr on the monitor's usb hub while playing iTunes all summer long with no problems.
Well, it could be also have something to do with Leopard and iTunes, and Snow Leopard upgrade might resolve this. I'm still waiting for Apple Up-To-Date to resolve it, as I bought my computer from an authorized retailer, so I had to go through the print and mail hoop and loop crapola for some reason.
Secondly, I'm estimating there are plenty of Mac users, especially those with a laptop, who keep their music collection on an external drive, which in many cases probably happens to be a USB one. So, this probably affects a whole lot of users.
Thirdly, if the Windows 7 version is affected with the same behaviour plus one degree down south, meaning it is happening with the internal HDD as well*, this was something they forgot to test and after a few user complaints, they should release a patch. *As reported by a friend of mine using Windows 7 on a minilaptop.
I cannot stress enough how freaking annoying that pause/lag all of a sudden is. Especially when you are doing something or actually working while you're listening and you press that skip button on your keyboard when the next song starts and you don't feel like listening that one but want the next one that the shuffle is playing. So, normally this move integrates seamlessly with my workflow, or just flow when I'm not actually working, and my eyes are reading the screen, left hand rests on the keyboard (iTunes-specific) skip button, while my right hand operates the mouse and ears do the sound registering bit so I know what song is on the iTunes plate, until I get to the next song I like. Now all of a sudden there's this annoying and irritating pause between every skip messing the s**t up of your flow. That's BS. And if you're browsing through the playlist looking for a certain song and then you double-click that it's the same thing as already described.

    MikkoV,
The same exact thing is happening to me (but I have Snow Leopard). My music is on a USB external hard drive (1TB MyBook) and with almost every song I try to skip, it hangs for upwards of 5 seconds. This is especially annoying because I shuffle my music quite often and I tend to skip over many songs before I find one I want to listen to; and, it happens both when the music is paused and playing.
This hanging has never happened to this extent before upgrading to iTunes 9.0. If there is not a fix to this how can I go about downgrading to iTunes 8.0?

  • Why is my radio randomly skipping songs?

Hi, my ITunes radio is randomly skipping songs, without me touching the screen. I have wiped off the screen, and there is nothing on it. I have tried resetting it from the Lock/Unlock button, and the home button, but that didn't work. There is a small scratch at the top of my screen, but it has been there for a while, and hasn't effected my phone before. I hope someone can help me with this problem.
                                                                                    Thanks,
                                                                                                Quinnyjoe

    Hi Quinnyjoe,
Don't worry, there's nothing physically wrong with your phone. My radio stations on iTunes Radio worked fine on iOS 8.2. But, on iOS 8.3, I too am experiencing the multiple song skipping issue (with titles showing for split second and changing continuously, until resuming play on a random track). Although I only experienced it last night (on iPhone, haven't tried on Mac) and am not experiencing the issue as of this morning (at least until now didn't). I think, it's either an OS bug or something's wrong online on Apple's end. In any case, it has either already been fixed or should be fixed in coming days.
    Hope this helps

  • My Ipod Nano 5th generation keeps skipping randomly within a song and sometimes skips to new songs.

My Ipod Nano 5th generation keeps skipping randomly within a song and sometimes skips to new songs. I have tried resetting it. I have tried updating and adding new software. I even tried just leaving it off for a few months and still it has this problem. The shake skip setting is not on. What I am to do? Also it is out of warrenty

Since you have already tried a hard reset, perhaps you could try a full restore of the Nano in iTunes. This process wipes all content from the iPod, resets all settings back to their defaults, and reloads a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device. This would rule out the possiblity of data corruption or a software glitch on the device.

  • ITunes has recently began corrupting my music library and my Podcasts. An exclamation mark has appeared at the beginning of a random number of songs and against some Podcasts with the result that they will not play on iTunes. Message is that iTunes cannot

iTunes has recently began corrupting my Music  and some of the Podcasts.  An exclamation mark appears at a random selection of songs - about a thoussanad of them - and they will not play as iTunes says that it cannot locate the file.  This also has happened on a number of Podcasts.  Any one else encountered this?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, if you are running Windows (you've posted in iTunes for Windows, but your sig mentions Mac OS X...), and as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

  • ***New*** iTunes 7 skipping songs problem (2-3 seconds of play only)

    Hey all,
Long post here, but I hope you'll bear with me, as I reckon this is something of a new fault with iTunes 7.
Found a bug with iTunes 7 on my iPod Video which I don't see any references to from anyone else. (I presume I'm not alone, but I've Googled the **** out of this problem and no one else seems to specifically have it...)
Basically, with iTunes 6.0.5, all was well. For putting songs ONTO the iPod, I've been using Anapod Explorer for well over a year, again without any problems. (I don't usually keep much of a music library on the PC - it all gets stored on DVD-burned MP3 discs, so there is a backup, just not on the machine. For that reason, and for personal preferences with iTunes' own way of updating, I find Anapod's copy and paste approach to updating the iPod to be much handier.)
So, long story short, a few weeks ago I upgraded to iTunes 7. Left it a while longer than usual because I was burned by an earlier iPod software upgrade which stopped me from playing divx/xvid videos created using iPod Videora Converter - on that occassion, I had to pull the firmware BACK to what it was when I first got the iPod. Thankfully, whatever bug was in 1.1 in relation to home-created videos is no longer there, and 1.2 works perfectly well. The brightness feature is the main reason I risked changing the software again.
So you would have thought all would be well with the songs, then? Unfortunately not. iTunes 7, slick and all as it appears, seems to create a situation whereby, once I disconnect from iTunes, ALL songs suddenly only play for 1-3 seconds before STOPPING, with the 'playing' bar jumping all the way to the last second and holding there. Skip forward to the next song, and same thing!
This cannot be an issue in relation to Anapod, as it never affected iTunes seeing the songs updated to the iPod via that method before. What iTunes 7 does seem to have done, though, is prevent songs being played in the normal way by introducing this frustrating 'start, 3-seconds, stop' issue. It will eventually go to the next song after about 1-2 minutes of silence, and then the process repeats. Throughout all of this, the songs do play normally within iTunes 7(0.2) so it is not a hard drive or corrupt file problem.
I should say that this is not crucial or a desperate situation, as I've already found a way to fix it. Moving BACK to iTunes 6.0.5 (or any 6.x.x version) and playing a few songs within iTunes, and then disconnecting will miraculously return all the songs to the usual full playing ability.
Unfortunately for Apple, this means (for the second time in a year) that I cannot update to their latest release as it ruins the playability of my iPod. I would like the extra features in iTunes 7 (for playing songs on the computer - as I said I never used it for updating anyway), but this latest glitch means I'll be using the more stable and reliable 6 for some time to come.
What I'm curious from the good folks on the forums here is to see if any of you have heard of this exact problem until now, and if so, what solution anyone had to get around it (possibly including actually keeping iTunes 7!)
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the long post. It all seemed kind of necessary when I see so many posts about 'skipping songs' but never about 2-3 seconds worth of play (most usually say they get more than half way.)

  • My iPod skips certain songs- ive tried the 5 r's and i have iTunes 8

I woke up this morning and started listing to my iPod and found that it skips certain songs. about 150 (more or less) of the 500 that i have downloaded. I just dont know what's wrong with it. The songs play fine on my iTunes but as soon as I try to listen to it on my nano it skips to the next song and acts like the song doesnt excist.
I have tried the five r's, I have the most updated model of iTunes (unless im mistaken and there is an iTunes 9).
I reset all of the settings both on my ipod and on the computer- which did nothing.
I read the manuals and looked at the error reports but there is nothing that explains this at all. that I've found...
whats weird is that the songs that are being skipped were all purchased from the iTunes store. I've read a few posts about simialar occurances but nothing exactly like this. I've had my iPod for three years (if that helps)
