Itunes randomly starts playing on my older imac since I uploade Yosemite.

Using a 4 year old imac, in the cloud with an iphone 5s and an 11" newer air
Do most of my work on the imac. Since i upgraded to yosemite, itunes on the imac starts randomly.
Any suggestions.

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

  • ITunes randomly starts playing media

My iTunes (10.5.1) will randomly start playing music or podcasts without prompting.  In the last 30 min. it has started playing 6 times without me pressing play or interacting w/ iTunes at all. I have a MBP w/ Snow Leopard. It's really a bother when I'm not in my classroom and it interrupts another teacher's lesson! His solution was to close the cover and it stopped. It only seems to happen in the 9 a.m. hour, which is just weird! Anyone else experience this or have any ideas on how to fix it?

So I think I have this figured out.  The other teacher is using an Apple Remote to control his Keynote presentation and it not only advances his presentation, but he is starting my iTunes!
Funny. (Also, I feel kind of silly.)

  • ITunes just starts playing randomly.

Hi, first time this happened.  Recently iTunes just starts playing by itself randomly even hours after I stop playing it.  Sometimes I am doing something else and sometimes the computer is just sitting there idle and it starts playing.  iTunes is always already open in the background.  This anomaly coincides with another glitch that I have been having lately, where I have a lot of trouble connecting blue tooth for my bose mini sound link II.  It eventually always does connect but sometime I have to connect and reconnect again and again sometimes for five or more minutes.
    Any thoughts?

I think I may have fixed the problem. After trying loads of other ideas (new user account, trashing plists, etc., none of which had any effect) I disconnected all of my USB cables and hubs and reconnected just the essentials. I also unplugged and re-plugged the audio-out cable to my amp/speakers. After this I relaunched iTunes and haven't had a recurrence yet (going on 6 hours.) My fingers are figuratively crossed.

  • ITunes app starts playing on its own

Hi! I am running an iPad mini 3 as I just upgraded from an iPad mini two weeks ago. I kept both iPads up-to-date with all software from Apple. But just before I upgraded, both the iPad mini and now my new iPad mini 3  started playing iTunes music with the app closed completely! I can be driving in my car with a car stereo that is not Bluetooth listening to music and all of a sudden my iPad, that is laying on the passenger seat while I drive starts playing music!!! It can either be from my library or the ITunes radio. So I hit the home button twice so that I can find the app and slide it up to close it and it's not even open!!!!   I have to actually open iTunes so that I can slide it up and close it so it will stop playing music. But randomly it will start playing music again!!  To me this sounds like a big bug. I am running the latest version of iTunes.
I spent an hour and a half on the phone with an Apple support rep a week ago Monday. In the end the only thing she could suggest was that I have my Bluetooth option turned on in Settings on the iPad and that was why it started playing my music . However I turned Bluetooth off which was linked to a Bluetooth speaker on my visor for phone calls. I also turned off the Motorola Bluetooth and even with it off, the music just randomly starts playing like it has a poltergeist affiliation!!
I was trying to find a place to report this bug but I'm just gonna post it here so if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them!  I have upgraded to  IOS 8.3 now and it's still doing it.  It's really really annoying! I can't even hear my Waze app reports on traffic  because the music drowns it out.
    Thanks!
    Jeannie
P.S.  Another thing that I spent an hour on a separate call with support for was that when you slide the control section up from the bottom of the home screen there was no lock whatsoever to change the orientation of my camera. It kept staying in portrait mode and would not take a picture horizontally!!  They have changed the location and how you set your lock rotation for horizontal versus vertical. While on that one hour support call it was actually me that finally figured out the issue.
In General under Settings there is an option for the slide switch. The options are lock rotation or mute. Mine was on mute because one would think if you have mute selected that means you're not going to hear any notifications or if you're using the phone app you're not going to hear the phone ring. So I did not want my sounds muted  so I selected lock rotation. In hind sight it actually says the slide lock will mute.  But it can easily be assumed to novices such as myself with Apple products (because I'm new to them) that it's going to mute all sounds when that option is checked whether or not you slide the switch. While on that phone call with support I selected mute instead and then my camera finally rotated the way I wanted when I went to take a picture. I think there should be a better explanation for users as to what  mute versus lock rotation will actually do.  And my sounds were not muted because I didn't slide the slide switch on the top of the iPad.  It even didn't make sense to the support rep!!! Just FYI

If you were listening to the iheartradio app when you received the call then it will pause the music during the call and resume playing when the call is finished.

  • ITunes radio starts playing after I check email.  What can I do to stop that from happening.  It is a nuisance to open iTunes and pause the song playing.

On my iPhone 5c, after I check email or other apps not related to phone use, frequently iTunes radio starts playing.  I have learned to open app and pause the song being played.  Is there a way to not have that happen?

Many people have the same problem. However, there is little or nothing readily available to users. This problem has existed for two or more years. Does anyone have anything to offer about this disturbing problem?

Thanks for the suggestion kcell. I've tried both versions
9.0.115 and 9.0.124 and both fail with the policy permission error.
I also tried with and without your crossdomain.xml file but
with the same result. It looks like this file is intended for URL
policy, instead of socket policy. Recently Adobe separated the two.
When I run with the files installed on my dev PC, it does
work, which makes sense because the flash player isn't loaded from
    an unknown domain.
I did get one step closer. If a crossdomain.xml in the server
root exists and the socketpolicy file is loaded from the app folder
then the first two warnings disappear. The logs now show:
    OK: Root-level SWF loaded:
    https://192.168.2.5/trunk/myapp.swf
    OK: Policy file accepted: https://192.168.2.5/crossdomain.xml

Warning: Timeout on xmlsocket://192.168.2.5:843 (at 3
seconds) while waiting for socket policy file. This should not
    cause any problems, but see
    http://www.adobe.com/go/strict_policy_files
    for an explanation.
Warning: [strict] Ignoring policy file with incorrect syntax:
    xmlsocket://192.168.2.5:993

requestor from https://192.168.2.5/trunk/myapp.swf is denied due to
    lack of policy file permissions.
Which basically says, everything is okay, but you stay out
    anyway.
PS: I found the XML schema files here:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer9_security_02.html
    and the socket policy schema:
    http://www.adobe.com/xml/schemas/PolicyFileSocket.xsd.
UPDATE: When serving up the policy file on port 843 using the
example perl script then the socket connection seems to be accepted
and the connect succeeds. After that flex hangs trying to logon to
    the IMAP server.

  • Music Randomly Starts Playing

Since upgrading to 5.0, my blackberry tour does this annoying thing where it randomly starts playing the music I uploaded onto it.  I'll listen to music on my blackberry while I'm at the gym and when I'm done I hit the stop button.  Then I'll be standing in an elevator at work the next day and music will start randomly blasting from my phone.  Needless to say this is rather embarrassing and obnoxious.  Anybody else have a similar problem or have any ideas on how to fix it?  Thanks.

Have you received a MMS message with music attached lately?
    Read this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Tour-9630/Unwanted-ringtone-plays-after-normal-rin...
The fix for many has been to delete that MMS message, delete the randomlt playing and song and then do a reboot of the device:  With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • My ipod classic 170gig disconnects when i open itunes? any ideas? It only happened since i uploaded new itunes version??

my ipod classic 170gig disconnects when i open itunes? any ideas? It only happened since i uploaded new itunes version?

The point is that there are four i product users for one computer in my house, and not everyone wants the same music on their device.  Like I said before, the ipod is not syncing to the new library even though I plug it in when the new itunes library is pulled up.  It keeps syncing to the old library...

  • ITunes opens, starts playing music

Okay, running OSX 10.7.1 with iTunes 10.4.1. I'll be watching televlsion and notice music playing and it's iTunes which has gone from not being opened to opening and playing whatever playlist was last played. The one plug-in that I have is SRS iWow but have that for quite a long time and never had any issues until fairly recently. It stopped for a couple of days but the gremlins are at work again and I came home once again to find music playing. Love Apple but this is not good so any suggestions as to what to do and what would cause this?

I had the same situation, I realized it only happened when I had my earphones plugged in.
The following post seemed most relevant in my case, and I felt it may be of some help here:
Post by Morgulator @ Direct Link to Post (MacRumors Forums)
    Speaker Jack
This problem is related to the microswitch located at the very bottom inside the speaker jack. Whenever you get this problem, make sure your speaker cable is fully inserted into the speaker jack. Even the slightest depress on the microswitch can create interference, causing itunes to start and random songs to start playing. I also recommend bringing your computer to an apple store and getting the speaker jack cleaned, since dust or other contaminants can cause this issue. They can also make sure that nothing is wrong with your microswitch. A friend of mine had to have his motherboard replaced due to a faulty microswitch. This is covered by warrantee as long as your mac isn't too old to be covered.
Microswitch is the Key Word here.
I think plugging in an Apple earpiece jack may be the answer, for those who're encountering the issue whilst using earphones or speakers.

  • Itunes randomly stop playing and restarts playing like a pause when playing music.

My itunes the latest version 11.1.3 stop playing music randomly and start playing it again. It almost like its buffering itself.
My hard drive is not full.
Already tried to repair disk etc.
I do not know what to do it all start its skipping when I upgraded to OSX Mavericks.
Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Hi, have you found something work for you ?
Happens to me as well but not started in mavericks all started with Mountain Lion , a few weeks before he left mavericks , I thought the problme would be solved by updating , but he did not, it's very frustrating strange thing is that in my case not only iTunes is , if any player, have proven Vox and another which I forget the name .
I also feel the same when you play a song in quick look ( Finder) .
I am desperate this problem is with me for the last month and a half went to a apple store and tell me that my machine has nothing that can not help me, and tried everything , reset my machine with a clean install , restart PRAM , repair permissions hise disk hardware test , and nothing has changed.
When iTunes pause my machine freezes a moment and returns to normal when continuous playback , stops about 1s though sometimes hard to 5s .
We appreciate if you find solution , because I am going crazy . Since neither in apple have been able to help me .
My machine is a Macbook Pro late 2012. Mavericks , iTunes 11.1.3 did not correct my mistakes. Do not know what else to try .

  • Why is itunes randomly starting and stopping?

I am running itunes on an iMac running MacOS 10.6.8.  itunes is randomly starting and stopping.  If there a fix for this?

I am having the same problem.  I have recently bought and now use a track pad on my iMac.  Also, I bought an app, rowmote that turns my iPhone as a remote.

  • Spotify randomly starts playing tracks by itself.

Hi all,I'm hoping someone can help me with this. It is becoming enough for me to want to cancel my premium subscription and switch to another service  as it is extremely annoying. Typical behaviour:Example 1:- I play tracks from an album.- I pause mid-way through a track, lock my machine and briefly walk away- I return to my machine to hear it playing random (yet similar) songs that I have never listened to before. Usually weird ambient sound scape such as the sound of people drinking in a bar or nature. Example 2: - I am listening to an album, suddenly the same random ambient sound tracks will start playing. If I look at spotify connect - I can see there is an option for "Spotiamb 0.2.1" - this is something I have never installed and have no idea what it is. Could this be somehow related? Any help would be much appreciated.  Another user is getting this exact same issue: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Windows-Web/Random-unsolicited-song-hijacks-plays-automatically

I'm having the same issues. My girlfriend got up around 3am the other morning because she heard my ipod touch play songs (32 GB, 3rd generation) as well. I'm also having problems with video sorting. For example: I have 3 seasons of this show called The Mighty Boosh (good show btw) and it is sorting by episodes. It's hard to explained:
    1st season has 8 episodes
    2nd season 6
    3rd season 6
So it is sorting: episode 1 from season 2, episode 1 from season 3, episode 1 from season 1 and then episode 2 from season 2 and blah blah blah, you get the picture don't you?
I called apple and I did a reset to factory setting and put all 20 episodes back in and the problem is still there. It all started when I updated ipod to 3.1.1 ver or what ever the last ver. one was and the new itunes 9. But the songs playing by itself is something that I have yet found out why is doing it. And its like evey few hours. I would hate to return it and get a refurbish because this was brand new and thats what exactly what the are going to do if I return it. So I am hoping that it is a ver. issue or maybe new itunes related so I won't have to return it and get a refurbished one.

  • ITunes automatically starts playing when iPhone 5 (w iOS 7.0.2) is connected to car radio via an Apple cable

I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.2, regardless it is the most recent update
When I plug my phone into my car radio's USB port (Apple cable, not knock off) iTunes starts to play the very first song in my large iTunes library.
I plug into the USB port to charge it and to connect the phone to radio in order to use hands free audio.
I have tried two or three different cables, it happens with all cables and again all are actual Apple cables.
I do not recall this happening with iOs 6 or at least as much.
With iOs 7 it happens every f***ing time. Extremely annoying and dangerous (I may get so frustrated by this that one day I might just smash the phone or the car radio :-) to the equipment.
I have to unlock my phone, go to iTunes and pause or stop the song/iTunes.
The app does not show as being open, that is why I have to go iTunes itself, the old fashioned way, so to speak.
It sometimes happens when I plug my headset in (also Apple brand, the basic ones that come with the iPad and iPhones) to phone and have tried the two different ones I have. It only seems to happen if my phone is not in use (i.e. I am on a call and switch to the headset it does not happen)
Interestingly this issue with the headphones and iTunes automatically starting happened more with iOS 6  and than with iOS 7. Ironically the opposite is true with the car radio, USB port cable, charging and iPhone — it rarely happened with iOS 6.0 but with iOS 7.0 it always happens.
I cannot seem to find a fix here but I do see I am not the only one with this annoying issue.
Please someone (APPLE!)  figure out a fix.
PS I have even considered NOT having any of my music on my phone — none at all —  which not only would solve the problem (I would hope!)  but be extremely inconvenient and defeating the purpose of only having an iPhone vs an iPhone and an iPod.
PPS -  I probably left out something really relevant, like what color is my car , so if I did, please let me know.

I have an iPhone 5 and every time I get into my car, as soon as my iPhone connects to the bluetooth or if I connect the USB cable, the music starts blaring through the car stereo, even if the radio was off. If I am using any of the navigation apps on my phone (google maps, waze, apple maps), and I happen to be lucky enough to have the voice directions working (that's consistently inconsistent), the music will frequently start by itself during navigation, even if I didn't turn the music on. Sometimes the music and navigation voice over will compete with each other at the same time. Sometimes they both go totally silent. Sometimes I'll hear only music. Sometimes only the voice directions. And if make or receive a phone call while the navigation is working, as soon as the phone call ends, the music will always take over again, even if I didn't have the music on prior to. I've checked and re-checked every setting on my phone, in my apps, in my car, and followed all of the suggestions I've found online (note to Apple - there are tons of posts on this topic), and nothing works.
It seems like there should be an easy software fix for this, or at the very least, options to:
prevent the music from starting automatically every time you connect with a cable or bluetooth (insanely annoying)
allow voice directions to temporarily mute music, should one choose to be listenting to music and navigating at the same time
just listen to voice direction - no music!
Better yet, how about just provide options to let the end-user decide when to listen to music.
For a product that is supposed to be "intuitively easly" and/or "just works", this level of dysfunction shouldn't be acceptable. Come on Apple - what are you doing to fix this???

  • ITunes 12 starts playing by itself

I'm running iTunes 12.1.0 and since 12 it's started playing automatically in the background. If I have movies open in iTunes it'll start playing the first movie, if it's music then it'll start playing the first song etc. Can't figure this out. It seems like it's a long running issue with iTunes but haven't found a conclusive solution.
    I'm on a MbP Retina mid 2012 running 10.10.2.

This started happening the other day.  It seems to have been triggered when I clicked on a sound clip on a birdwatching site.  Since then, iTunes has suddenly started to play on three occasions after I gave permission for a website to use Adobe Flash.  iTunes wasn't even open.  Interestingly, I found that the original birdcall I clicked on has been added to my iTunes library, something I didn't want.  I can't figure this out.

  • ITunes automatically starts playing when I get in my car

I drive a Ford with Sync. I have my iPhone 3GS set to automatically connect to the bluetooth in the car when the car is started. In the past few weeks, I noticed my iTunes was automatically starting when it connected with the Bluetooth. It doesn't play through the car, so I don't know its happening unless I look at the phone and see iTunes playing music.
Is there a way to stop it from doing that? Its draining my battery.

I too have this problem, though not with bluetooth. For me the auto-play starts as soon as I connect my iPhone 4S to the radio with a cable I connect to the AV 1/8" port in the center console of my 2007 Honda Accord. Not only does it start auto-playing as soon as I connect the cable, it also immediately starts playing the first music file in my phone as soon as whatever podcast I am listening to has ended
Like others, I find this really annoying, but also a little dangerous. Because some engineer thought that auto-playing the first music file on a device was what most people would want to have happen, I now have to either (1) think ahead to select and pause my podcast or song prior to connecting the cable, or (2) scramble around to stop the auto-playing file while I am driving. This is hampered by the fact that the auto=play does not instantiate Music when it auto-plays, so I have to locate and start up Music and go to Now Playing before I can stop the file from playing.
I do not believe, however, that this is Apple's fault. On no other device anywhere does this auto-play occur except in my Accord. On the other hand, I see people in this thread with the same problem driving cars other than the Accord. This could just be something I need to work around. A bummer, but definitely a First World problem.
