ITunes re-points media to random files and locations
I'm having issues where every so often, iTunes will randomly re-point media to other locations on my network. For example:
Before - Show1.m4v points to /Volumes/mp3/iTunes%20Server/TV%20Shows/Series/Season%201/Show1.m4v
After - Show1.m4v randomly now points to /Volumes/media/mp3s/Artist/AlbumX/Song3.mp3
This happens on both my personal machine and a Mac Mini I have set up as a media server. Mostly they are obvious because you look in iTunes and the cover art is missing. The harder ones are when one show re-points to another in a series and you simply cannot see that its happened until you go to play the show and it starts to play some other random one. (e.g. I want to watch Game of Thrones Season 4 episode 2, and it starts to play Breaking Bad season 1 show 5)
I have moved my iTunes library to a Synology NAS location on the network so it isn't local. I understand there are some issues with this in the past.
My questions: Is this normal? Why does iTunes feel it needs to randomly re-point to media thats all over the place? This isn't corruption, its almost like a virus or malware.
Is there an easy fix? Because its actually pointing to an existing file, I can't click on the broken link and have it "re-find" the media file. I could delete the target, but would have to fish for hundreds if not thousands of them. If I rename the target directory, iTunes is smart enough to track the re-name so I can't fool it into thinking the file is missing. I could completely delete it in iTunes and re-import, but it would create a second copy in the media folder filling up my disk.
In the case of music, I can simply delete all the local files and have iTunes match re-download... always fun with over 15k music files.
In the case of my media server, I have to fix it all manually. This last go-around I'm looking at having to fix nearly 100 broken links for movies and TV shows.
I simply don't get the value of a locally attached drive
An iTunes library that works?
About a movie/TV show match. Legally speaking it is serves no purpose. It is illegal in the USA and many other countries to rip DVDs. Unless you are transferring original Petticoat Junction episodes from VHS tape you cannot legally be in possession of unprotected, matchable digital copies of a large amount of the media most people would likely wish to have available (at least I don't know of anybody who sells unprotected, digital, mass-market videos). Yes, you can buy digital download versions but then many of those sources provide for re-download and or streaming (as does AppleTV) which negates the need for a Match service. I guess you could say, "Well Amazon [or somebody] sells digital videos, why doesn't Apple provide a Match service for those so I can stream to my AppleTV?" I will let you think that one through and answer it yourself. On the other side of things, music can be legally ripped from CD so there's still a lot of that out there which the Match subscription serves.

can't sync my ipad with itunes!i deleted "SC info"file and tried but it's not working!!it continously prompts me to authorize my computer!please help me out?
I'm having the same problem with my 4S. I have to constantly reboot my iMac or turn off my phone a few times to get it to sync. Before when I had 5.1.1 everything seemed to work just fine. I'm sure its a bug......
Both my ipads running 5.1.1 have zero issues syncing via wifi or directly plugged in. -
I recently bought an ablum from iTunes, but the songs are randomly stopping and skipping about 45 seconds into the song. What is the problem?
Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

If you only add one file into the excluded files and locations, does this error still appear?
Could you reproduce this error on another system?

how do I locate non picture files and location? I'm getting low memory and can't find word,PDF etc
iPads don't have a filesystem like a computer, Files of that nature must be associated with an App and reside inside that particular App's file space. So the way to find them is to open the App that opens that file type and look in its file or document list for them.

ITunes keep create lots of random files
I noticed my computer (iMac on 10.6.4) has lots of strange files on root folder of Macintosh HD. They are files with random names such as "%A1p%E1%8F", "~+%F8%85%C7u", the content of files are XML with something like "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"><plist version="1.0"><dict><key>DeviceCertificate</key>.."
I realized they were only created when iTunes 10 (10.0.1 (22)) is opened and they were just keep adding as long as it is opened. No such files is created if i shutdown iTunes. The files is not removed by iTunes itself.
What should i do to prevent them from building? they are really annoying and i'm worry something wrong on iTunes.I'm having the same issue. Except mine is putting files in a lot more places than just "/" and I'm having a hard time finding them all. I even had a Xcode project for work that got inundated with these files and it took me over an hour to safely clear them out. Most recently I had over 1,000 in my root directory and when I tried clearing them out Finder got stuck crashing and relaunching over and over again, I ended up having to log in a root to remove the files with terminal before Finder would stop crashing every time I logged in.
Just thought I would share, has anyone had any luck figuring this out? I like iTunes 10 but it looks like I'm going back to 9 for the time being. -
Easier way to rename music files and locate them with iTunes? Help, please!
A while back, I used a 3rd party software (Yamipod) to move all my music off of my video ipod to a new computer. Yamipod converted all of my music file names to read "album name - artist - song name", instead of how iTunes imports music "01 song name". Yamipod also created a sub-folder "1" for each album the artist has in my iTunes music folder.
For example, when in my iTunes music folder, if I click on Justin Timberlake, it will show the two albums I have "FutureSex" and "Justified". If I click on "Justified" it shows a folder "1" which I have to click on to get to the song which is then named "Justified - Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body" instead of "06 Rock Your Body"
When in my iTunes folder, a lot of my music cannot be found (even though it is not technically lost), so I manually have to click through all my iTunes music folders to "re-attach" the file so iTunes can then play the music.
Here's what I am looking for:
1. I want to rename all of my music files back to iTunes format of "track # song name" (i.e. 06 Rock Your Body) without manually retyping every song title.
2. An easier way for iTunes to "find" all of my music instead of me manually pointing to each and every file. I have all the music, I just have to manually show iTunes where each of the 1600+ songs is located, which is a long and tedious process that I do not have the time or patience for.
I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to manage this without going bonkers.
Thank you!!Well, the one problem you have is that for the "Move" function, the source file input should be wired to the output of the "Build Path" function, not to the duplicate path out of the "List" function. Also, you need to pass the error cluster around with a shift register. Otherwise you will not catch an error that may have occurred during one of the file rename operations.

Proxy Media: Transcode Source File and Export Read File...
Hello, I'm new to FCPX. I have a Panasonic HC-X920. When I shoot things I copy the entire folder tree to my hard drive and import from there, rather than directly from the SD card.
I learned that FCPX "re-wraps" the truly original h.264 MTS files to "Original" h.264 MOV files. Not a huge deal, as there doesn't appear to be quality loss, and the MB/s rate is slightly higher on the MOVs. Ideally I'd be able to use the MTS files but FCP is Quicktime-based and I've decided I'm not worried about it.
Anyway,
My computer can't handle playing back 1080p 60fps h.264 footage. In order to have playback on an FCPX timeline, I have to transcode to either Proxy or Optimized media. Optimized, of course, takes up a ton of space, so I'm curious about using Proxy. But I want more info first.
I'm most curious about question #1, but here are two questions:
1.
Let's say I transcode everything to Proxy Media upon import. When I go to share/export a final file from my timeline, which of the following does FCPX do?
(A) Export the timeline using/reading from the lower-quality Proxy media, ignoring the Originals.
(B) Automatically replace the Proxy media with the Original media files, and export the timeline using/reading the Original media files while ignoring the Proxies.
(And if B is the answer, is it reading the Original MTS or Original MOV? I'd assume MOV, right?)
Does this question make sense?
I'll mostly be editing home movies with this, so it's not imperative that I be able to see what I'm editing in vivid detail and I can use Proxy for that to save disk space. But I DON'T want my final exports to be based on that lower-quality transcoded 422 Proxy Media; I want the proxies to be view-only, and I want the final exported quality to be based on the quality of the Original media.
My other question:
2. (probably not a big deal either way)
When FCPX transcodes to Proxy and/or Optimized, is it reading from (A) the "Original" MOV files it created upon import, or (B) from the "truly original" MTS files?
Thanks!Tom Wolsky, thanks for your answer.
1. Where do I switch playback to original, in the Preferences? I'm attaching what I see in my Playback preference window. I don't see a place to switch this, am I doing something wrong?
2. That's what I suspected, thanks for clarifying.
Here's the screenshot I mentioned in #1: -
What are these random files and how do i stop them?
I just bought my macbook pro about a month ago so I'm new to it. But recently, Ive noticed that randome movie files and pictures have been showing up under the "all documents" button in finder. Some of these pictures I recognize from photobooth, but they were taken on a different computer way before i even purchased this one. And other files like the movie files and some of the pictures are completely random and I've never seen them before. The movie files are short 10 sec films and the photos are just photos. anyone have a clue on whats going on here?
How are u connected, as in ISP, University Network, etc.? I get shares like that too, as my ISP here in Nepal is using some crazy way of sharing connections with customers. I called and asked them once, but they have not clue about Macs. I suspect it's a technician doing some work in the office, who is tapped into the same C1 connection that I am using, but it is a bit disconcerting to see computers you don't know on your Network.
When I teach in Thailand, I am on a university system that will show all the users connected to the same hotspot. That's why I lock down my sharing when there. It's kinda crazy, as I don't really understand all the security settings and what they imply. It would be nice if there were a guide for home/small business Lans on what exactly the settings should be in OSX, but I suppose it's all out there in Google, somewhere... -
While doing the Restore the "connect to Itunes Image is still on my phone and has not shut off or changed since starting the REstore. Now Itunes status bar says "Processing File" but has not changed or done anything for 15+ minutes. What do I need to do? Let it go or is it not working???? FYI, I tried to update to the 6.0.1 (I believe thats this update)
This was the third Restore I've attempted today.... 'm not sure what all I did including unplugging and plugging it back in, and messing with tryign to select my phone vs. my husbands but it starting moving again. It's now attempting to "back up" from ICloud... we'll see. Thanks

Hi,
I have a server with Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 installed.
This server is running Backup Exec. I have created an files and folder exclusion pointing to:
C:\Program Files\Symantec
There are various references online like this one
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH74529
Which highlight excluding the processes rather than what I have done...
If the process is inside the Symantec folder is there any technical difference between using the files and folder exclusion as opposed to the process exclusion?Yes, the difference is that excluding the folder location will only exclude the folder and the child items of that specific location from scanning activity whereas excluding a process will exclude any activity by the process regardless of location. So,
with a process exclusion, if that process under C:\Program Files\Symantec produces activity in C:\Windows, the activity will be excluded from scanning, but if you just have the C:\Program Files\Symantec folder excluded, the activity in C:\Windows will not
be excluded. -
"Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Files" (and "Locate Referenced Files")
I am trying to follow the Help Documentation item "Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Master" (not sure if there is a way to post a URL to this) and I am not seeing what it is telling me to do.
I am going to Edit > Find and it is telling me to "Click the Filter HUD button beside the search field in the Browser". Is this referring to a browser in the Aperture UI or is this in the Filter HUD display? I am not finding this.
Also, it saying that in the Filter HUD I should "choose File Status from the Add Filter pop-up menu, and select the 'File Status' checkbox." and I am not seeing this either. Does anyone know where this is at?
Lastly, I see that there is a command called File > Locate Referenced Files and when I run this I get a "No Referenced Files in the /current/ selection. I have realized that I don't quite understand whether I am running this search for a specific Project and/or whether I have to make a specific selection in the left hand pane when I run a FILTER HUD or whether this automatically defaults to search the whole database. Does it matter what I have selected in the current Browser View when I run either of these commands?
Thanks for any help in my getting this working better for me.hotwheels 22 wrote:

Thanks for any help in my getting this working better for me.
1. Just copy and paste the URL from the on-line User Manual. Very helpful. Are you on this page?
2. From the above-linked page:
Show the Filter HUD by doing one of the following:
Choose Edit > Find (or press Command-F).
Click the Filter HUD button beside the search field in the Browser.
The instructions specify ONE of the following. Your question indicates to me that you are trying to do both.
3. The User Manual has used the wrong term here. It should say "Choose 'File Status' from the 'Add RULE' pop-up menu."
4. The command -- like all commands? -- works on the currently selected Images. On the same page in the User Manual it says:
You can select a group of images in the Browser and Aperture can show a list of the referenced images within the selection, including information about where the masters are located. {Emphasis mine.}
5. The Aperture workspace is highly configurable. I don't know what you mean by "the left-hand pane". Of what?
6. Yes. Of course it matters. At some point in the 80's when the GUI became standard computers standardized on the "Noun→Verb" syntax: Select object(s), select command(s).
7. Not sure what the second command to which your refer is. -
Missing Files and Locating Bug
Hi,
In LR2, if I relocated a folder of files/photos, for example move them from a primary hard drive (on my macbook) to an external hard drive, the catalogue would indicate missing files with a '?' icon in the top right hand corner of the file.
To re-locate these files was simple, right click on the missing file and for OSX simply click 'show in finder' and find the missing file in it's new location.
Then all missing files from that particular folder would all be systematically found.
In LR3 the above process has no effect. If I try to relocate a missing file nothing happens.
Any ideas?
Many thanks
TomasA little spookie, just before I noticed your post I tried the 'Find Missing Folder' option in the folder tab in the library module and that worked fine.
Clicking the '?' icon or right clicking and selecting 'Show in Finder' still has no effect though. In LR2 this never failed.
Thanks very much for such a fast response -
