ITunes recognizes iPod but not music

Since I downloaded iTunes 7.3.0.54, it recognizes my iPod but does not show any music. However, it shows that the iPod disk space is 3/4 full but it's classified as "other data." Is there any other way to get that music to appear? I'm trying to avoid doing a restore if at all possible.

I had this same problem and just got off the phone with Apple Support. She told me that I'm out of luck, I should have backed all my files up. Music, photos, whatever. gone. She explained to me its like a mini computer and these things happen. It doesn't matter what generation of ipod you have. So now I have to start from the beginning and will now archive all files. I know this is not the news you wanted to hear but maybe you can sleep tonight!

  • Windows recognizes iPod, but not iTunes or iPod updater, causes freezing

I'm having some issues with my 60GB iPod Photo. I tried to store my friend's music on my iPod as files. Upon uploading them to my own computer, some files caused freezing, requiring me to disconnect and reconnect the iPod. I finally gave up and deleted all the files stored on my iPod. All of a sudden, although Windows XP Pro recognized that an iPod was plugged in, it would no longer open iTunes automatically. When opening iTunes once the iPod was plugged in, it would cause iTunes to freeze.
I decided to restore my iPod. About halfway through, there was an error message saying my iPod could not be restored. All songs were deleted but my iPod was still not recognized. Now, the iPod updater does not recognize that in iPod is connected, even though Windows does. The updater freezes, inhibiting me from completing my restore. iTunes freezes as well when my iPod is plugged in. My iPod displays "update in progress - do not disconnect," but nothing happens. When my iPod is not connected to the computer, I can navigate through it normally, although it does need to be unfrozen when left unused for a couple of days. I cannot tell if it plays files because they were all removed during my unsuccessful restore.
I have tried reinstalling all my iPod related software and I have tried my iPod on more than one computer with different USB cables, but nothing works.
    Help, please!

This is exactly the same problem that I am having I have posted on 14th March on itunes forum. I wish you luck I wait with interest to see what someone says. My ipod was working like a dream until i downloaded the update

  • ITunes recognizes iPod but can't sync - driver missing?

Here's the rundown. Several months ago, the complete content of the old XP machine where this iPod's library resided was migrated to a Windows 7 Home Premium system using LapLink PC Mover.  iTunes had never previously been installed on the Windows 7 unit.  iTunes appeared to be functional afterwards, but on the first and all subsequent instances of attempting to sync the iPod, clicking on the Sync button did and still does nothing.  I have tried connecting the iPod to multiple different motherboard-based and pcie-based USB ports, and to a USB2.0 external hub. (Sometimes the screen briefly flashes as though it was switching to the sync process monitor, but usually it's just no change.)  I've tried uninstalling all of the Apple software from the machine, rebooting, and reinstalling.  (When I say "all", that includes iTunes itself, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Software Update, in that order.  Trying any other order produced complaints.  Quicktime is not installed on this machine; iTunes and the iPod are not used for video.)  In looking at the postings of others who have had similar issues, I found a recommendation to reinstall another driver that I have verified is not loading and is not running with the iPod hooked up:  Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.  I have tried to reinstall this driver, but it hasn't worked.  What I have come to suspect is that something in the Windows registry got borked during the transfer, and is causing the load process for the *needed* driver to fail, possibly by trying to load the old XP version.  But my registry-fu is not strong in this, so I'm looking to see if anyone else has run across this issue previously and found a solution.
    Points to note:
Windows 7, installation was a port from XP via LapLink PCMover
5th gen classic iPod 80Gb with 34Gb free
iTunes version 11.4.0.18 is installed  (This was the current version when I started trying to find the problem.)
Apple Mobile Device Support software is loaded.
Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is NOT loading, either before or while the iPod is connected.
In Device Manager, the iPod appears as a Disk Drive and as a Portable Device when connected, but does not appear in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers list.
iTunes recognizes the iPod and can access it sufficiently to verify that it does not need to be updated.
    iTunes can eject the iPod.
    iTunes cannot sync the iPod.

I can now expand the information somewhat.  On my second, very similar setup (5th gen Classic connected to Win 7/32 with iTunes 11.4.0.18) I was able to successfully do the initial sync of the iPod several weeks ago, but this afternoon, when I tried to sync it to include the music I had added recently, it failed in the same manner as the other system.  I really, really, really DO NOT want to downgrade to iTunes 12 with it's horrible antinavigation interface and lack of the very useful and needed Sidebar, but it is beginning to look like 11.4.0.18 is problematic, and I don't have an installer for anything else at present.

  • Help! pc recognizes ipod but not software

I just had my 20 gb ipod replaced with a 20gb color display ipod. Best buy did not give me the software disc according to their "warranty". I used my original disc to download the software, and updated it by using the free download on the apple website. I now have itunes 5.0 and when I connect my ipod to the computer a window pops up saying that it recognizes the ipod, but that the computer doesn't have the software and to download it from their website or the installation disc. I need help! Please anyone who knows how to fix this

    - I would start with

    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

  • USB1 Recognizes iPod But Not USB2

    Hi,
I have a Dell laptop with WindowsXP installed. As far as I know my USB2 ports are all properly configured and working correctly. But, for some reason, when my USB2 is enabled, my computer doesn't recognize my (4thGen) iPod.
In order to update the iPod, I have to first disable my USB2, then everything works fine, albeit, at a much slower pave than USB2 (obviously.)\
Has anyone else had this similar problem? And, if so, any answers as to how to correct it?
    Thanks!

I was milling around some other posts and tried all the suggestions I could find pertaining to this general issue (changing drive letter of iPod; removing all the USB ports, then re-starting the laptop; purchased an external powered USB2 hub; etc. - all to no avail.
I'm now wondering if, perhaps, this might be a hardware issue, perhaps some type of conflict pertaining to the manufacturer of my USB2 Controller? ( Intel(R)82801/FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller -265C )
    HECK, I DON'T KNOW! :>)
Again, everything is fine and dandy if I disable the USB2 controller (above), then update, etc. the iPOd in the USB1-mode, but not OK when the USB2 is enabled.

  • TS1369 Itunes recognizes ipod but 'on this ipod' tab doesn't show up.

So iTunes recognizes my iPod but the 'on this iPod' tab isn't showing up. I've restarted the computer, iPod (ipod is also updated), and iTunes but nothing seems to help. This is on a Mac book pro; iTunes version is 11.0.2 (most recent). Any ideas anyone?

You have to enter the album information manually in iTunes to get it to show up in your iPod. The only way album info shows up automatically is if you purchase the album from the iTunes store.
Click on the song in iTunes so it's highlighted in blue and hold down the Command - i keys on your Mac keyboard. This will bring up a dialogue box with tabs for Summary, Info, Video, Sorting, Options, Lyrics, and Artwork. Click on the Info tab and you'll see a group of input fields for song title, artist name, album name, etc.  After you fill in the info click OK.  (You can only enter info for one song at a time). The updated info should now show up in iTunes. Good luck!

  • ITunes recognizes Nano but not iPhone

All of a sudden, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone. It recognizes my Nano immediately, but not the phone. It shows the phone charging fine, but I can't sync.

It took me the better part of two days to figure this out. Windows on my desktop computer had problems so I did a reinstall. After reinstallation my iphone would not sync with itunes. The computer would see it but not itunes. the odd thing was my iphone worked well with my itunes on my laptop. I called apple and they started off with "we can help you but I need to purchase some phone support for $$$". I said good day to that. Glad we have a forum like this to help each other out.
    What I tried
    - I did all the basic task on the support page and that didn't work.
    - I tried to uninstall itunes and reinstall again that didn't work three times.
    - I tried to uninstall itunes 9 for 8 and got some error that itunes needed some other file and would not load.
    - I then read a post on this board about turning off the USB port. the same thing you are supposed to do when removing a thumb drive by closing the drive before removing it. I then reinstalled itunes 9 and now it works. don't ask me how or why it just does.
    Best of luck

  • Windows Vista recognizes iPod but not iPad...

Windows Vista (with latest service pack; 32-bit) will not recognize my iPad. It was able to before and my last iPad backup in my iTunes is dated back to March. However, now, when I plug my iPad in, it does not recognize it and does not even show up on the disc drives. I have gone through the numerous methoeds that Apple (and others) suggested including reinstalling iTunes, reinstalling the Apple Mobile Device Drivers, restarting my computer using msconfig, etc.
To test out whether it was an Apple driver on my computer or not, I inserted my Gen 6 iPod Classic and it recognized it with no problem. If you know how to solve this, please let me know.
    Thank You,

  • IPhone is not recognized by iTunes.  would like to backup/sync.  itunes is older version, using OSX.  itunes recognizes pics but not the device.  I am unable to DL the latest iTunes

Here is the deal, i have not been a good mac owner in the sense that i probably havent had proper updates throughout the years.  Hence, my itunes is out of date and my iphone doesnt get recognized by itunes (poor fella).  but the strange thing is that my other iphones were recognized.
Here is the kicker, my cloud has a backup on my iphone and my ipad recognized on the iPhone device taking up 587.2 mb.  IF i delete the ipad will it remove contacts and wreak havoc.

Your other phones were probably old enough that they worked with the version of iTunes you have. When you buy a device it requires the version of iTunes current at the time of purchase.  A new phone will require a new iTunes which won't run on your Powerbook.
I didn't think iCloud backed up to a device, the device backs up to iCloud.  Are you sure you aren't simply seeing backups in the Cloud and not something actually on your phone?

  • Itunes recognizes ipad but not iphone 5,

I have itunes 11.0.2 installed on windows 7. I can connect and sync my ipad 3 with no problems. When I connect my iphone 5, I hear the "beep" and it starts charging but itunes doesn´t open. When I open itunes manually, the iphone does not appear connected.
I have followed the steps in this article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538) but the problem is not resolved.

    Seriously? Nobody knows?

  • HT1351 when my iphone 5 is connected, i can't see the content in itunes library.  when i have an older ipod plugged in, there is a button to view what's on the ipod but not iphone.  how do i see the music stored on iphone 5 in itunes??

When i connect my iphone 5 to cpu, i cant figure out how to see the music held on phone.  When I click the "iphone" icon, it pulls up the options (summary, info, music, apps, etc) but when i click music, it just gives sync options.  When i plug in an older ipod, there's an option to see what's on the ipod but not with my iphone 5.  how do i see the music stored on my iphone in itunes?

There is a OneClickdigital ereader available in the App Store. Download that to your iPod to read pdfs and books from the library. And you might need to download the OneClickdigital eaudio player to listen to audiobooks from the library. Once both are downloaded sync you iPod again to transfer them.

  • I have a MBP running 10.6.8 and after the recent iOS update I have not been able to sync my devices. I was able to sync an ipod, but not iphone or ipad. iTunes recognizes my devices, but sync button stays grayed.

I have a older MBP running 10.6.8 and after the recent iOS update I have not been able to sync my devices. I was able to sync an ipod, but not iphone or ipad. iTunes recognizes my devices, but sync button stays grayed. I've changed my USB hub, reinstalled iTunes and run disc cleanup. No luck.

You said that your computer will sync other iPods? Are they iPod touches? Other iPod use different drivers the the touch And iPhone and iPad).
    You can try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Does it charge? Does the iPod work?
I would try on another computer.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If defective and not abused you will walk out with a replacement
