Itunes recognizing ipod after system restore?

I recently had to restore my computer to factory settings due to a problem with a virus. I had to reload Itunes and now it doesn't recognize my ipod. I tried taking itunes off and reinstalling it with the updated version. It gives me an error message asking me if I want to replace the songs on my ipod with the ones in the new music library which are basically the ones that come with itunes.
How can I get the version of itunes that is on my computer now to recognize my ipod so I can get my songs into the music library and put songs I download onto it??
I hope someone can understand this, I apopogize for the confusion.

Okay, given that the QuickTime seems to be working fine, that iTunes message is probably the key to this.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. Run the utility, find the iTunes entry in the list of programs that show up in CleanUp, and remove the iTunes entry.

hey i searched this and found nothing helpful.
i did a system restore before and now my itunes won't open. it shows a message that tells me it can't open. i've reinstalled and uninstalled and everything i can think of...
how can i fix this and make itunes work again?

If you have an HP, you need to goto Hp.com and download a patch for your model of PC, alot of there PCs have issues with iTUnes after using there software to do a restore. If you have another brand, check there site.

  • Itunes went blank after system restore

i did a system restore this morning and now itunes is blank -- no music, albums, artists, nothing. all of the music i had stored in itunes still appears on my ipod classic. my question is how to get it back into the itunes library. is there a way to copy it from the ipod to itunes? or do i need to reinstall itunes? if i do that, will i lose all the music already on the ipod?

*is there a way to copy it from the ipod to itunes? ............if i do that, will i lose all the music already on the ipod?*
If your iPod is set to sync automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • ITunes not opening after system restore

I was having issues with opening iTunes after I upgraded to the latest version. So I did a system restore and now when I try to open it, I get a pop-up that says "The file "iTunes LIbrary.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." • Itunes doesnt work after system restore

Hey i just downloaded the latest version on itunes a few days ago. I opened the program once and it worked well. Then yesterday i had a problem with my pc and i did a sytem restore. Now my itunes doesn't work. Whenever the try opening it this is the message i get:
The new file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
If any one could help me i'd appreciate it

Unfortunately, when you System Restored over the top of the iTunes install, it may have dropped old program files from iTunes and related components back on the PC. So you may have old iTunes componentry trying to open the new library.
I'd try a complete uninstall and reinstall of iTunes and related componentry on the PC, with a slight modification. The basic technique is given in:
[Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923]
The modification is that when you are working through the *Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled* section, in addition to the program files and folders mentioned there (such as "iTunes" and "BonJour"), you might see program folders called "iTunes (2)" or iTunes (3)" or "BonJour (2)" and so on. Also delete such folders with the names of Apple software with numbers and parentheses.

  • ITunes Unknown Error -48 - no music on iPod after a restore

I did the 5 R's after having "freezing up" issue with my iPod - went in to sync iTunes with iPod after the restore step, and know I am getting this error message. I did a search and can't find a solution for -48, or even what it means. The songs will sync to about #40 or so, then it stops completely and ejects my iPod as the error message comes up. Please help - no music on my iPod.

Received no help from this board - took it back into store and they said it was a hard drive error ands replaced the iPod under my 3-year plan. Always buy that. I have needed it twice.

  • After system restore, half of ipod data won't transfer

I recently had to do a system restore on my computer and now none of my tv shows will transfer to my ipod and most of my music won't. The first time I updated my ipod after the restore a message said something about the device not being authorized for...something. I should note that I did not download anything but podcasts after the system restore, so everything that won't transfer was there before the restore. I'm not a computer genious, so help is really appreciated.

I am having the same issue. The top of the message board states there are 2 "helpful" answers and 1 "solved" answer. Have you been successful in getting everything to transfer and/or how do I access the referenced answers?

Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • After system restore i reinstalled firefox, how to get back bookmarks etc with old firefox data?

After system restore the only thing i have is old firefox data on desktop if all bookmarks, passwords are recovered it will be great help.
    P.S
i reinstall firefox from drive other than c ,that was in downloaded form.
    Thanks

The "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop has been created as the consequence of resetting Firefox.
Doing a Session Restore may have reverted the profiles.ini file to a previous version that hasn't registered the new profile folder that a reset had created, so you may need to check for this.
    * C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and Windows 7 and later versions are hidden folders.
If you have a profile folder that is more recent than the "Old Firefox Data" on the desktop then you can use edit the profiles.ini file and change the path of the currently default profile to the name of the profile folder as you find in Document and Settings.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
It is always best to be cautious with using System Restore as this can cause some file to be replaced with older copies, i.e. your Firefox installation and profile folder can get inconsistent and you may have to reinstall Firefox as well.

how to recover hp pre-installed games and office after system restore for HP Mini 210-4127se?

    Hi,
You can reinstall them from Recovery Manager by clicking on Start=> All Programs.
If you have performed a complete HP Recovery using F11 then all the software should be there. If you have performed a minimized recovery then you can install applications from recovery manager...If none of these works then you'll need USB recovery..
Here are the links that will guide you through the process:
Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
    Order USB Recovery
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • ITunes dead after System Restore

I can no longer launch iTunes, and this has nothing to do with spyware.
    Sequence of Events:
    1) Last Thursday, I purchased a new track from itms (Iggy Pop - Candy - it's good, check it out).
    2) Upon trying to play the track, I was presented with the message that the computer was not authorized to play the track. Other songs I tried to play gave the same error. I had been perfectly content using iTunes 4.7. However, in order to play the tracks, I now needed to upgrade to the current version of iTunes. This was, imo, obnoxious, but I capitulated, and downloaded and installed v6.0.1.3. After installation, iTunes worked perfectly fine.
    3) Thursday evening I shut the computer down for the evening. I didn't use the system again until Sunday evening. When I powered the machine up, Windows booted to a black screen. Safe mode worked properly, but 'normal'-mode would not light the display (this is a laptop). Not knowing what was wrong yet, I tried using System Restore to return the system to a slightly earlier state. The most recent checkpoint was just before installing the iTunes update, so that's where I restored to.
    4) System Restore didn't fix the problem. That's when I discovered the switch on the laptop that senses whether or not the lid is closed was broken, and it was telling Windows the lid was closed, resulting in the darkened screen. (I've removed the switch while I wait for the replacement plastic piece I need, so that's no longer an issue.)
    5) System Restore did not have the option to undo the previous System Restore.
    6) I then re-installed iTunes 6.0.1.3. Each time I try to launch iTunes, I see the standard MS "Do you want to send the error info to Microsoft?" message box, and iTunes won't start.
To try and repair the problem, I've tried uninstalling iTunes and Quicktime repeatedly. I've tried System Restore, and then a reinstall, several times. I've been a Computer Tech since '94, and routinely remove spyware problems from people's computers in a professional capacity. I am certain my iTunes problem is not malware-related. However, just to cover all bases I went ahead and followed the Apple doc referenced repeatedly in these forums involving MSCONFIG to ensure my iTunes problem wasn't related to some startup issue. I've taken the iTunes folder, with the library.itl and .xml files, and moved it to the desktop prior to reinstalling iTunes. I've uninstalled, and then deleted the Program Files\iTunes and Program Files\iPod directories prior to reinstallation. I've disabled my antivirus during the install.
No matter what I've tried, iTunes will no longer start.
Anybody have any ideas what I can try next to revive iTunes on my PC. I very much don't want to lose my existing playlists, album art, and music files (especially the approx. $130 of purchased music), obviously.
    Thanks,
    Steve

hmmmm. some thoughts (speculation warning) on what might have gone wrong with the QT. a system restore "over top" of a fresh itunes install will strip out some installation registry entries from both QT and itunes. (under those circumstances, itunes won't launch, spitting out a "some of the required files ..." error message.)
under those circumstances, i usually recommend uninstall QT and itunes prior to the reinstall. (of course, you had other more pressing things to worry about at the time ...) i've been doing that because the QT component of the itunes installer bundle can be a little more delicate than the itunes component when it comes to installing "over top" of existing program files and folders. i think it's partly to do with the fact that it's the second install in the chained install (more can go wrong with it). so the QT may have been compromised on the reinstall, even though the itunes part of the install went through fine.
you don't tend to get the same QT install problems on a standalone QT install (again, speculation, but it seems plausible) because it's not the second install in a chain.

  • Can not open itunes after system restore????

    Hi There,
I recently used system restore to fix some problems with my computer. After that, everything runs well except itunes. Whenever I double click on itunes, it prompts error box "itunes encountered a problem and needs to close, we are sorry for any inconveniences" and gives me options of sending the problem to Microsoft or not. I am using Real player now but it is way worse than itunes. Please help me. Thank you so much
    Have a great day.

    hi melissa!
Hey- Im having the same problem with itunes. After I did a system restore, I get the same error over and over again
hmmmmm. if you system restore over a fresh itunes install (or QuickTime install), you can strip out installation registry entries for itunes. (people typically get the "some of the required files are missing" message after doing that though.)
(MS) Frequently Asked Questions Regarding System Restore in Windows XP
let's try scraping your existing itunes and quicktime out of there, and reinstalling.
first, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (we will be using it later on.)
next, use the complete uninstallation instructions in the following document to remove your existing itunes and QT:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
if you run into trouble on one of the uninstalls, use Installer CleanUp to remove the installation configuration information for the program that is giving you grief, and then use the complete uninstallation instructions as a guide to a manual removal of leftover program files and folders.
even if you don't run into trouble, run Windows CleanUp after you've completed the uninstalls, to check to see if there's any leftover itunes or QT installation configuration information on the PC. (if you find any, remove it.)
reboot the PC. download and save a fresh copy of the itunes installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    iTunes 6.0.4.2 Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
