ITunes recover from iPod Classic

Could anyone advise how to recover my itunes inc playlists from my iPod classic??

iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

I don't know what's up with the translation window thing appearing.  Anyway...
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Why is it taking forever to transfer tunes from itunes to my ipod classic, I have over 6500 to copy and the current rate is 2 tunes per minute

I am just copying tunes from itunes to my ipod classic, there are 6675 to copy and the present rate of transfer is 2 tunes per minute, which means that it will take over 55 hours at this rate,
This has never happened before previously it took next to no time so what is happening?

That show that your original library is damaged and needs to be repaired.  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How do I restore playlist folders from iPod classic to iTunes? The library is intact, but the playlists are not and I don't want to rebuild them from scratch!

After reformatting my HD and reimporting all songs back into iTunes succesfully, the playlist folders are gone and I don't want to rebuild them from scratch. How do I restore playlists from iPod classic to iTunes 11.1.3 without resorting to 3rd party options?

I actually tried that in "my computer" by renaming the drive and then got this:
    g-raid (F:) (H:)
then after reading your reply realized I should try renaming it in "disk management" and hey! it worked.
Thanks a lot for the advice.
Now I don't understand why my back-up drive isn't automatically adding the files when I import into the Ex-HD but I'll figuree it out.

  • Recently, I have been unable to import all of the "songs" or discs from multi-CD operas in itunes to my ipod classic or network hard drive. Only 1 or 2 discs import despite plenty of available space in both devices. Very frustrating! Any suggestions?

Recently, I have been unable to import all of the "songs" or discs from multi-CD operas in itunes to my ipod classic or Seagate network hard drive. Only 1 or 2 discs or 20 or so "songs" out of a  total of 40 - 80 import despite plenty of available space in both devices. When I check itunes, each opera disc with all of the "songs" are listed. Very frustrating! Any suggestions?

right click on the songs that do transfer and select create aac version then re sync

Just downgraded back to iTunes 10.7 and copied music from ipod classic to itunes using houdini, but how do i copy the playlists from the ipod when itunes says that my ipod has been synced to another itunes library?

Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.

Your contacts are being synced with you iPhone over the air from iCloud. Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on you iPhone

  • Itunes killed my ipod classic

itunes recently killed two classic 160gb ipods I have within a week of each other when the new version of itunes (10?) was released.  I received at different times the following errors
"can't connect to drive f:\"  error
"the ipod cannot by synched. The desk can not be read or written to"  error
"the ipod cannot by synched. An unknown error occured (-124)" error
"the ipod cannot by synched. The required folder cannot be found" error
    "disconnect  retry  cancel" error
My ipod began skipping songs, it would no longer sync and itunes would freeze when the ipods were connected to my computer.
My ipod shows that it is synchronizing when it is not (I had to set it to manual sync to avoid other errors).   then itunes doesn't run or respond within windows.  I eject the ipod. nothing happens.  I have to physically disconnect the ipod without ejecting in itunes to get itunes to run.
I've reset the ipods.  I put them in Disk Mode. I've connected them to other computers that have itunes 10.  Nothing works.  Nothing.  I've read every discussion group, loaded every driver.  Prayed to every saint.
I use an old itunes version (8.0.2.20) because I prefer it to the newer versions that don't have the    Genre     Artist     Album    list categories along the top of itunes.  After declining yet another update, my two ipod classic (160 gb) would no longer synchronize, producing the errors above.   At the iPod store on Chestnut St in SF, I get a sneer and a shrug, and I am told I can get my (out of warranty) iPods repaired for $179 each + $59 for the one whose battery died when I (tried but failed to) manually load overnight the music I lost.
Apple ate $600 of my products and 60+ hours of my time.  May I please just sell them back my classic ipods and buy different MP3 players?  Apple is my least favorite consumer company in my history of buying products of any kind.
Has anyone experienced similar synchronization errors using windows or a Lenovo T500 or itunes 8.0.2.20 with classic 160gb ipods?   If so, would you please recommend a solution to solving my synchronization problems?    Thanks in advance.

No such thing as "manual sync"! You either use Sync to synchronize your iPod with iTunes (look up synhronize - or synchronise in a dictionary) or you manually manage. If you have somehow managed to manually sync, that's probably why you're having problems.

That's definitely not a good idea. If you physically disconnect an iPod (or other storage media) from your computer while the computer is talking to it, you will probably cause corrupted files on the iPod.
The best way to recover from "iPod won't eject" is to turn off the computer, then physically disconnect the iPod. (Once the computer is turned off, you know that it cannot be talking to the iPod.

    What?
    That's simply not true!
Go (in iTunes) to and select View/Column Browser/Show Column Browser. If it is already showing or once you have it showing, go back into View/Column Browser and below the option to Hide Column Browser will be a menu for Artist, Album, Genre etc. Unfortunately, each one has to be selected one-at-a-time.
My advice to you is install the latest version of iTunes. Then try connecting your iPods to the new version and then get iTunes to check for and install the latest version of software (also known as the operating system or iOS) onto the iPod. Check each and every iPod. If iTunes tells you that the iPod needs a restore, make sure that's done with the latest iTunes.
If you are stuck at that point, post back into this thread again with precise information about what does or does not happen.
By the way - if you connect your iPod to a different iTunes, you run the risk of deleting everything off your iPod if you do not follow the prompts carefully. In addition, if that iTunes updates the operating system of the iPod, then almost certainly that iPod will no longer work with iTunes 8.

  • Problem syncing itunes 12 with ipod classic on a PC

Hi I just purchased a new Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 and installed the latest itunes 12 on it, but it won't sync with my ipod classic.  The itunes detects my ipod classic, but won't sync the music files and just ejects the ipod instead.  I have tried installing an older version of itunes onto my computer (version 11) but version 11 won't work on this laptop.  Please help!

Unfortunately I cannot get the movies to play through Quicktime at all on the PC - the movie seems to play (timer runs and the little triagle moves), but all I get is a blank screen... The first time I tried to play one of the files, QT told me I may need to download additional codecs (although it did not indicate which one) - and directed me to the third-party codec download site. However, after downloading several of the different codecs, the .mov files still won't play through QT on the PC.
Rule of Thumb: never download codec components arbitrarily. Since the files load into the QT Player, what you should have done was open the "Inspector" window and check the "Format:" entry to see which codec was used to compressed the video and then download the "correct" QT codec component and only the needed one.
Is it not possible to get these files to play on a PC since they were imported and made on an iMac with iMovie?
I would tend to suspect that you may be using an HDD or DVD camcorder here. Basically, the MOV file container is generic and can hold any valid combination of audio and video compression formats. DV would have imported as DV content. AVCHD or HDV would have imported as AIC/AIFF content which is normally supported intrinsically by QT. On the other hand, the content from MPEG2/AC3 based camcorders employs a special iMovie '08 import/conversion module which converts the AC3 to AIFF and the MPEG-2 "P-frames" and "B-frames" to "I-frames" which effectively turns the video into an M-JPEG track but leaves it labeled as MPEG-2 content which would likely confuse the QT Player. Further, if iLife '08 itself installs the playback component for this compression combination, you may not be able to locate/install a Windows version of this playback codec at all and may end up having to convert your DVD stored MOV files on an iLife '08 equipped Mac.

I have 1 library and have 3 ipods including a touch. I create playlists for the touch and only sync those since the capacity of the touch is smaller than the classic. At sync time itunes will give you the option to choose which playlist to sync to the touch.
