ITunes refresh database (updating songs tags)

I've been looking for a solution for ages!!
I have almost 100 000 songs, and I like it clean! So I often spend hours cleaning tags, making sure everything is perfect (Artist, Album, Year, Categories).
I don't want to use the iTunes auto managing thing, because I don't want iTunes to duplicate my songs in his own folder because there's too much to even think about using twice the space needed...
My setup is simple, I have a data partition on my HD and it's F:/Music (Then all artist has his folder, and a folder for albums...)
When I clean my Tags, I have to play the song in iTunes (only 1 second) and it updates the changes I made. But I don't want to click them all to see my changes...
And I don't want to delete/redo my library because I really need the Play Count feature (for my Smart Playlist auto syncing with my iPhone)
So, is there a "refresh database" button somewhere? That won't change nothing but the update the actual tags ?
Thank you guys!
PS : I know there's other similar answer but it doesn't do what I want to do!

Thank man, your scripts are amazing!
I have one more question about artworks.
I have a very large music library and artworks are taking a lot of place and I'd like to free some space by managing it in a better way.
Actually, I have some artwork managed by iTunes (it creates a folder "Album Artwork") and put the front picture to every song so I can see it if i'm scrolling in iTunes or on my iPhone. It is great but the folder is taking a few GB. iTunes cannot find all the cover (30-40%), so I don't really want to let iTunes manage it. I also have some front cover as a JPG file in the album folder and with my Tag Editor I can add the picture file to the music files and then delete the original JPG files and it keeps showing the artwork without taking a lot of spaces.
My question is : Can I delete all those iTunes files created in the folder
Music\iTunes\Album Artwork\Download\9406062996C08529\00\02\14\9406062996C08529-5C28FB7E1EBD0E20.it c2
Can I simply add my cover myself with my Tag Editor and then delete all the cover related files?
What would you suggest me? (Music library is about 100 000 songs)
I hope my question is clear and makes sense, this is the last thing I need to fix to have my perfect music library.
Thank for your time buddy!

  • Help! iTunes automatically changes my song tags.

Hey, when I add new songs to my iTunes library, iTunes automatically updates the tags giving it its own album artist, album, track numbers, etc. I personally find this very annoying and sometimes forces my library to become very unorganized. Any help in fixing this? Any option to just turn off the auto update of song tags?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I still have this problem. I have two PCs, both of them have Vista (though different versions) and exactly the same version of iTunes. On one PC, iTunes automatically updates tags, on the other it doesn't. And right now tags are only changed when I play a song in iTunes. It drives me crazy. A few observations and speculations:
There may be a process running (outside iTunes) which checks the properties of an MP3 file played by iTunes and adds certain tags which are not present. Unlikely, but impossible?
The properties you see when you check the file info are taken from the iTunes Music Library.xml file and not from the MP3 file itself. If you look at the file properties in Windows Explorer, you can sometimes see that it can have information for ID3 tags which is not visible in iTunes. When the information is added in iTunes, it is taken from the MP3 file tags and added to the xml file, I think. This means that when you delete the tags from the MP3 file itself, using TagScanner, for instance, it is impossible for iTunes to add it to the xml file and display it in iTunes. I've been experimenting with this and it seems to work.
If the above is true, the question remains why iTunes adds or updates tag information when I have explicitly forbidden it to do that by disabling all the options mentioned here. I still have no clue. Anyone else?

  • How to refresh or update song info on iPhone with iTunes Match?

If i change info like an album name, on my MacBook Air's iTunes, the song still appears on my iPhone (that has iTunes Matching turned on also) under the old album name, even if I rescan with iTunes Match. Does anyone know how to update this? I've even tried turning iTunes Match off on my iPhone, syncing, then turning it back on.

Much like the act of putting your old chumbawumba cd in a box in the attic to make space on your shelf for newer and better music, you should cleanse your iphone of old music files regularly.  Songs aren't gone forever, you can still dust them off and listen to them later if the mood strikes.
    Open settings click general>usage>storage>music>edit
Then delete all locally stored music
If your in the mood you can always download that catchy "I get knocked down, but I get up again... You ain't ever gonna keep me down" track and rock out like its 1998 (or whenever that **** song came out)

  • ITunes wont let update song info AND creates duplicates of song files

When I click "Get Info" some of my song information is grey and won't let me update or change song names, artist names or add artwork. It says the encoding is unknown, but some of it's come straight off a cd!
Also, does anyones iTunes, duplicate songs? I keep getting two files of each song, and I have no idea why.

This can also happen if they are WAV files, as WAV files don't support ID3 tags (i.e. song information tags).
EDIT: On second thought, I think WAV files can have ID3 information, but they don't support artwork. Nevermind.

  • How do I set iTunes to manually update songs without connecting iPod first?

Hi. I just got a new computer and downloaded iTunes. The User Guide says that when you connect the iPod, iTunes automatically updates all songs in your iTunes and deletes songs that are not in iTunes. As far as I can see by reading the User's Guide, iPod has to be connected to change the setting to "manual update". I already have an iPod with songs in it that are not on the iTunes that I just downloaded. I'm afraid that if I connect my iPod, it will erase the songs already in my iPod because of the default "automatic update" setting. Does anyone know how I can change the setting to "manual update" BEFORE I connect the iPod to the computer?
    Thanks for your help!

I have iTunes at home, and I downloaded it here as well, but everytime I try to update new songs from this library.. it says it's already linked to another iTunes music library, and asks if I want to change the link and replace all existing songs with the ones from this new library. • Setting iTunes to manually update songs

i recently lost all the information on my computer, includig iTunes and all music of course. ive been playing around with the yamipod or ipodcopy program but since i only have the demo version im not allowed to save all my songs to the pc. i tried to put them all in iTunes with this program but iTunes didnt recognize my iPod. now i reinstalled iTunes but i dont know how to make it only update manually.
also, now iTunes is saying i have to reinstall it because it cant burn or import cd's.
    ???????????????

A few people have said "it's a demo".
Looking at www.yamipod.com, the Ads by Google on the left side, there is a link to download ipodcopy, which has a trial version.
I believe these people are downloading and running ipodcopy, and not yamipod simply because they fail to actually read anything.

  • ITunes does not accept Song Tags from my HD radio consistently

When I Tag a song on my Dual Xhd7714 car system.....to my iTunes on my Macbook....if I've Tagged 8 songs....Maybe one will show up on the Tagged playlist on iTunes...I'm using the most current iTunes....and have used both my iPod and iPhone (both with latest software/firmware upgrades)...and the issues occurs...from both devices....Help!!!!!!!!!!!...Bob

When you double click on the song in iTunes, does the progress bar at the top of the window move at all?
If not, try re-installing iTunes and QuickTime
    1. Drag iTunes.app and QuickTime Player.app from your Applications folder to the trash
    2. Restart the Mac
    3. Download and install from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If that doesn't resolve the issue, you can try deleting your preference files:
Quit iTunes and QuickTime player if they are running.
    Navigate to /User/Library/Preferences/
    Drag com.apple.itunes.plist to the trash
    Drag com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist to the trash
    Restart the Mac
    Launch iTunes again

  • Itunes fails to update songs in my ipod when syncing.

What can I do? This is really frustrating, because sometimes it works and then when I get almost to the end of filling up my device, everything freezes and stops syncing.
I have a real nice Acer ultrabook with windows 8.1 64 bit, it runs really good with pretty much everything, no problems whatsoever.
I also have the latest version of Itunes with almost 80 gb of music transfered from my old laptop. The thing is, when I plug in my ipod classic 160 gb, everything seems fine, the program runs good, and when I try to grab and release an album or artist, it all gets slow and the syncing process never ends. Earlier today I tried restoring my ipod, and everything ran pretty good until I got to artists with letter "Q" when it froze and till now cant get those last gigs into my device.
If anyone knows how could I fix this, I would be endlessly grateful to you.
    Thanks for listening.

I have this problem since IOS 7

  • ITunes won't read ID3 tags

So long story short, I lost my iTunes library and had to re-import all of my songs. Problem is, iTunes isn't reading the ID3 tags correctly, and most of my music has "unknown" under artist, album, etc. Normally, it wouldn't be a big deal to just go through my library and update the information for the tracks manually. But I have a LOT of music, and it would take forever to do so for my entire library. I use iTunes whenever I import CDs or purchase music, so the ID3 tags were all originally created by iTunes itself, which doesn't make any sense. All of the ID3 information (track names, artist, album, etc.) is showing up fine in Explorer and Windows Media Player, so I'm not sure why iTunes isn't recognizing it. Any ideas?

I suspect the tracks have multiple tags which iTunes doesn't cope with. Each mp3 file should have a single ID3v2.3 tag for best results with iTunes. Some software creates both ID3v1 and ID3v2.x tags when creating mp3s. If these are edited with iTunes it may update one tag, but then later read back unchanged data from the other. MediaMonkey has some useful tools for cleaning tags, assuming that is the problem, and you can determine which version needs clearing out. Test with small samples to make sure.

  • Updating songs maunally

I have set my itunes to not update songs every time i plug my ipod in: i do it by hand. I just put a cd into my computer. Now, it is in my library folder, but i want to get it into my ipod where it said My Name's Ipod.
I drag it in, and it wont work. I even drag the whole "folder" into Alexa's Ipod, and that wont work

Just to be sure everything is set up correctly, check your update preferences. Connect the iPod and when it appears in the source list go to iTunes>Preferences>iPod> Music tab and make sure the "manually manage songs and playlists" radio button is checked.

  • Updated mp3 tags in PC files vs Itunes

Hello. Not sure if this has been asked before but could not find a previous post.
I would like to know if Itunes updates mp3 tag information automatically when I make a change to the file on my PC?
example: Loaded new album artwork to an MP3 file on my hard drive (dell;xp).
What do I have to do to make these changes update in Itunes or vice versa other than choosing "Get Info" and make the changes manually?

iTunes maintains all of its info in a database. You can embed most of that data, including artwork, in each and every mp3 file by highlighting the song or the whole album or the entire music library. Then you place the cursor inside the highlighted area and right-click to see CONVERT ID3 TAGS. I have the best luck with v2.3
This action should only be necessary if you have removed tags from the files. Generally iTunes creates and updates tags as you edit metadata. I'm also pretty sure the OP's issue is with getting iTunes to recognize changes made outside of iTunes.

  • Itunes is messing up ID3 tags and song info.

I am wondering, why is itunes keeps on changing ID3 tags.
For example. All my "The Thunderlords" songs have been changed to"thunderlords, the" Which I do not like. AC/DC got changed to DC/ac and the art was gone. Random comment such as "0" have been added to nearly every song. The album "The Wall" has been labled as "Wall, The" I do not like this >_> is THE wall not wall the. What the .... is wall the? It's not like I go around says "what heck the?" or "halo above his head the" I'm not Yoda! I'd just like to know how to stop itunes from editing this without my permission.
    All songs are MP3's. Details:
96 kpbs (mono)/ 192 kpbs (Stereo), Normal Stereo, optimized for MMX/SSE, using MP

Welcome to the world of Gracenotes. This is the database that Itunes reads to name your files. Apple pays a royalty to these clowns and this is what you get; misspellings and just plain wrong info.
I constantly sort and edit my 1300 CD collection so I would suggest you learn to do the same within iTunes. If the author names are reversed, fix one then copy. Itunes will let you select and change multiple fields once you learn to do multiple selection..not hard but tedious at times.
Apple needs to threaten to let us use the free CDDB for an alternate look up and a swap button on authors names, and so forth..

  • ITunes doesn't update Title in ID3 tags

So, I've searched through this forum and found several problems that are similar to mine...but not 100% the same. When trying the new game Audiosurf, I found that it didn't recognize a few songs--it said that the title was "Unknown". Well, I know that all of my songs have titles in iTunes, so I did some investigating. It turns out that for a small percentage of my library, the Title in the ID3 tag is not complete--although the Album, Artist, Genre, etc. tags are! I'm verifying this using a 3rd party ID3 tag viewer, and even can see this by right-clicking the file in Windows Explorer and looking at the advanced summary.
So I've tried several things within iTunes to get the ID3 tag to be written, including setting the files to have no ID3 tag (via the "Convert ID3 Tags..." dialog, as suggested in this forum) and then bringing them back. The tag is correctly removed, but when I restore the tag the Title is still left blank. Many of the files have "Unknown" as the encoder, but I have several that are either "Unknown" but have a title, or are iTunes encoded but don't have a title.
The "easiest" thing that works for me is to modify the song title and then modify it back. This will finally create the Title field in the ID3 tag. So...does anyone know a faster way to do this? Some way to select these songs and force iTunes to update the ID3 tags (besides changing the tag type, which I have already tried)? I fear there is no easy way...I have some ideas with my ID3 tag program I downloaded, but I'd much rather do it in iTunes.
    Thanks!

This may not help with whatever you did in Terminal but it may help with trying to update to 5.1.
System Preferences>Network, select your network (ethernet or wifi on the left) and click on the Advanced button and then the DNS tab. On the left, under DNS servers, click the + sign and type 8.8.8.8 click the + again and type 8.8.4.4 and save your settings. See if iTunes will now let you update.
If that fails you could try updating over wifi not using iTunes. These are the instructions for an iPod touch (I guess it'll be similar for the iPhone/iPad). Settings>General>Software Update.
