When you get this kind of problem you need the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. Here is a method for using it:
== uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

  • Apps won't appear after being downloaded

After I downloaded a few apps, they wouldn't appear on my screen. I went into the App Store and tapped Open but it still would not open or appear on the screen. Any solutions?

    If they are "waiting" then:

    Otherwise
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Download the apps on computer and sync
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Random folders appear after i downloaded something

I have a mac laptop that was running on an old OS system, (10.5 something), and last week, I bought and installed the snow leopard 10.6.3.
Being that there were 5 updates to get it up to the current 10.6.8, (so I can get the itunes 11.1.1 that I needed for my iphone back-up), I preceded to look for them on-line, (unaware at that time, that if I just went to the apple logo on top left, I could have just clicked on "software update").
Long story short, in the process of figuring out "software update" availability, I did go on-line and download what I thought was an update; now I have random files all over the place, (even ones that look like they should have been hidden).
Yesterday, I did download Sophos and did a check; it did say I had a "Trojan something", and it cleaned it up. I still, however, have the random folders everywhere, so did another Sophos check and it said it didn't detect anything.
Is this just coincidental and I have another issue?.....although nothing like this has ever happened before this download, so I believe I still have a well hidden virus in my system.
FYI: when my Time Machine backs up my computer, it keeps running "forever", where as before, it would only stay on for a few minutes, (enough to save any new info).
Thanks in advance for any help I can get on this.
    M

    Long story short, in the process of figuring out "software update" availability, I did go on-line and download what I thought was an update;
That is probably not an issue, but could potentially be bad. Do you recall where you got that update from?
now I have random files all over the place, (even ones that look like they should have been hidden).
Can you give some examples (names as well as where they are located)? There are normally many hidden files and folders on your hard drive, so it's possible that your Finder has just been set somehow to show hidden files.
Yesterday, I did download Sophos and did a check; it did say I had a "Trojan something", and it cleaned it up.
Can you recall the actual name that it used? Names are very important with malware - they tell us whether the malware affects Mac OS X and how to respond if it does. In Sophos, choose Scan -> View Scan Log and look for the name there.
FYI: when my Time Machine backs up my computer, it keeps running "forever", where as before, it would only stay on for a few minutes, (enough to save any new info).
Following an update - if you actually installed one - that is normal.

  • Multiple songs appeared after migration to new pc

    Hi
I have just migrated all my data to a new pc, and when i loaded itunes, and then searched for tunes, i now have 2 or 3 of nearly every song that i have in the library.
I know how to list duplicates, but is ther any way of deleting them automatically?
    Any help would be great.
    Matt

I think that happens when you have more than one iTunes database *.itl file on a system and iTunes uses that to load it's library each time it starts up. I've moved entire iTunes folders from one hard drive to an external one, and I think as long as the original *.itl file is moved, and not simply copied, then it shouldn't duplicate songs (and the duplicate songs might have exclamation marks next to them).
Don't quote me on that, though...I placed all my music on my second disk from the get-go so I wouldn't have this problem.

After updating to IOS 7.0.2 in my Ipad mini I cannot update my apps nor download new apps . It says "cannot connect to ITunes. " it's been almost 3 wks now. I have tried resetting it  and trying other options like changing the DNS to just 8.8.8 etc but to no avail. I try to run the IOS diagnostics but it couldn't verify my ticket number. Everytime I open my mail it cannot identify server identity " Apple.imap.yahoo.com." But I just clicked "continue" anyway so I could get my mail.

  • I use a macbook pro..My iPhone 4s refuses to be recognised by itunes even after I downloaded to updated itunes...what now?

I use a macbook pro..My iPhone 4s refuses to be recognised by itunes even after I downloaded the updated itunes...what now?

    Hi Oneness1,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
These troubleshooting steps can help if your iPhone 4S is not recognized by your MacBook Pro:
Plug the device directly into a high-power USB 2.0 port on the computer. If possible, use a USB port on the back of the computer.
Avoid plugging the device into a keyboard, display, or standalone hub. The USB ports on these accessories may be low-power or only offer USB 1.x connections.
If you are using an accessory, remove the accessory and connect the device to the computer using only the Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or Lightning to USB Cable.
If you have access to additional Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or Lightning to USB Cables, try testing with another if the first one doesn't work.
Restart your computer and device. To restart your device:
Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on.
Disconnect all USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then reconnect the iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect other USB devices, testing after each connection.
    From:
    iOS: Troubleshooting USB connection

Ensure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
Note: If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.
Check USB connections. iOS devices require USB 2.0 to function properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, refer to the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Restart your Mac.

  • My iPhone 3Gs is now no longer a recognised device on iTunes after I downloaded the new iTunes with iCloud software, but it does recognise my iPad2??

My iPhone 3Gs is now no longer a recognised device on iTunes after I downloaded the new iTunes with iCloud software, but it does recognise my iPad2??
I run both Mac and a PC and have iTunes on both, which has previously recognised my iPhone. I had updated my Mac with the new iTunes software with iCloud and updated my iPad2 just yesterday. I then wanted to do the same with my iPhone today, but my Mac wouldn't recognise the device so I tried it on my PC, which recognised the phone but told me I needed to update my iTunes and this in turn wanted to update my iPhone software. After completing all this and restarting, my iPhone now shows the iTunes icon with the USB plug pointing towards it, obviously wanting me to plug it in to my computer to re-connect with iTunes, but now neither of my computers recognise my iPhone and my PC states an 'Unknown Device'. My Mac doesn't even see it. Can anyone help as I really need to get my phone working?? Thanks

Hold down the Home and Power button for 20 seconds. And try to update again.

Try removing and then reinstalling the Apple software using these instructions.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
The above containes a link for XP. Also. make sure you install the correct Apple software, It comes in 32 and 64 bit and you need the one that is the same as the computer OS

  • TS3212 Unable to download new update for iTunes on my computer after installing OS6 on iPhone

I have had no problems in the past being able to download updates until now.
I updated my iPhone 3GS to OS6 with no problems and now I cannot get my iTunes on my computer to download a new update from 10.5 to 10.7 and it now rejects my phone when syncing, saying that it needs to have an update to 10.6.3 or higher.  Is there anyway to get the update function back to working on my current iTunes without having to reinstall? If I must reinstall my iTunes, will it still keep all my data from before like an update or do I lose everything and have to start from scratch or will the installer keep the old config that is currently installed?
    Things I have tried:
    Restarting the computer---same results
I opened the software update application inside the software folder--opens the update window but has no updates listed in it...then tried to update again while having it open--still nothing.
Only thing I can think of at this point is to reinstall.
Just hoping for any help in order to avoid having to do this.
(Using Windows7 64-bit on my computer)
Any helpfull answers would be highly appreciated.

I bit the bullet and downloaded a fresh install download from apple.com since the updater would no longer work.
Still a mystery as to why the updater was no longer working.
Kept the original installed iTunes where it was and sent the new install to its same folder location.
First couple of attempts failed to download but I persisted and the third attempt it downloaded.
After the download, I went into the iTunes folder, clicked on the setup icon and the install was made complete.
Fortunately as diesel pointed out, all of my settings and media remained intact.
Thanks to diesel vdub for providing a little assurance, and now all is back to normal and up to date once again.

After getting a new desktop I downloaded iTunes and authorized my new computer and then de-authorized my old one,  When I try to update my 5S it says my phone is not authorized and list my wifes email address as the account holder and not mine.  How do I correct this. I am using Windows 8.1 .  My wife has never had an iTuunes account

    Hello Lakesidetom,
It sounds as though you are experiencing an issue with an Apple ID and authorizations. Based on your post, it sounds like you are familiar with the authorizing and deauthorizing process. The Apple ID in question (your wife's email) may be originating from the iPhone you are attempting to update. Is it possible that your wife created an Apple ID or iCloud account which is signed in on that iPhone? Below, I have included links to some resources that may help you determine if your wife has created an Apple ID:
