ITunes refuses to import mpeg-4 videos

I have a few mpeg-4 video clips on my computer that I want on my ipod. iTunes refuses to import them. I've tried file>add folder to library, file>add file to library and attempting to add them individually, I've tried dragging and dropping, again as a group and individually.
All methods give the same result: a dialog window with the progress bar. It scrolls through the names quickly, the progress bar gets to less than 10% before the dialog box disappears and there are no new videos in itunes at all.
How do I fix this?

Sounds like you've got a setting wrong . . . Videodora is temperamental at best, you may want to go to iLounge go through the step by step tutorial they've got up.
Good luck!

  • Itunes refuses to import one file

Itunes refuses to import one file. This file is unprotected, mp3 audio file of 72.3MG which happens to be a 'teach youself spanish' CD downloaded from Win/MX. As far as I can see thsi file does not differ from other files which itunes lets me import, apart perhaps from its length (it is over two hours long). itunes produces no message to explain why it will not import the file and so i am perplexed...

    hi Jack!
hmmmmm. just checking. can WMP import and play this file? if so, can you convert it to another file format in WMP, like AIFF? if so, will itunes accept the file when it is in that format?
(a clunky workaround ... even if it works)

  • Itunes refuses to import some mp3 files.

    Hi,
Can someone please advise. I have an album of MP3 tracks. For some reason Itunes refuses to import all but 2 of the songs on the ablum. I have the files on the hard drive in my music folder which should be auto sync to Itunes. This does not happen with these mp3's. Also if I try to do it manually nothing happens. Any suggestions?
P.s I am using the latest version of Itunes and the MP3's play fine with media player etc.

Yeah, what stubchain said. If they play in WMP, then you've run into the bug where iTUnes can't read the MP3 tags.
iTunes has problems with v2.4 ID3 tags.
    http://www.id3.org/iTunes
iTunes also has a problem with v2.2 tags and artwork/beats per minutes tags on the same song.
Try setting them to v1 in another program and then see if iTunes can read them.
Then once iTnues can read tehm, I would convert them to v2.3 tags, which seem to be the most stable & have the best features.

  • Itunes refuses to import certain tracks

Hello everyone. ill cut to the chase:
iTunes refuses to import random songs in my collection that it used to play before.
I moved my music off of an external and no matter what i try be it adding the tracks to the "automaticly add to itunes" dragging the songs onto itunes going through the menu and adding them doesnt work either.
the songs play while im in finder. i have the latest updates for a while now so i doubt thats it.
@_@ im stumped....looked up a few times in google and no solutions for mac at the moment after going through several sites. any help would be appreciated

.mp3 checked the files myself using command + i
yes they play in quick time
no message it jsut does nothing lol
cant add the tracks to a playlist because i cant get them into itunes.
normally when i import a song it says "copying randomsong1" and then it adds an entry into the "recently added" smart playlist i tried making a copy of the song changing the name and seeing if that did anything and got the same result. NOTHING happens...

  • Import MPEG-2 video into PhotoShop CS6

Does anyone know why I can not import MPEG-2 video file into PH CS 6?

    Hi there -
Do you have any other Adobe programs installed? Photoshop CS6 can only open MPEG-2 video files if a decoder is installed, such as Premiere Pro or After Effects.
See this Adobe Help article for more information about supported files types in Photoshop CS6: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/supported-file-formats-photoshop-cs6.html
EDIT: Here is an extremeley technical post about this issue - http://forums.adobe.com/message/4700873
If you have further issues with this topic, please post in the general Photoshop forum where experts will be able to give you much more specialized help.

  • ITunes refuse to import music etc

First, i tried to import a song that I wanted, and iTunes refuse to import it.
At first, i thought i was alright and i synced, it synced DOUBLE of ALL the music.
Tried to remove and failed, checked the "Sync only checked music", doesn't work.
When i go over to the music tab, there is only Sync music, if not its Selected Playlist etc. How do we actually choose what music we want to sync? How do i solve the problem of iTunes not importing my music?

I am having the a very similar problem.
iTunes will not sync music to any of my devices since 8.0.2
I also use the option "sync only checked songs".

  • ITunes refuses to import Amazon MP3 album, claims permissions won't allow me. What?

    I download through Amazon MP3.
I downloaded Muse's album and imported that into iTunes just fine, but for whatever reason, when I downloaded the Black Keys album El Camino it refuses to play ball.
I get "Attempting to copy to the disk "Macintosh HD" failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this."
Now, I did a permissions repair with Onyx, and even checked all the folders to make sure the permissions wasn't weirdly set, but nothing is wrong with those folders. They're not locked at all.
I can play the song files when I press space bar or even in things like VLC, but iTunes refuses to play ball for some reason. Is this an iTunes problem or Amazon? And if you could possibly point me to a forum post that is this exact problem I'd love you forever as I'm about to go on a cross-country road trip and would really love to play some Black Keys.

That's a workaround, but it doesn't really solve the mystery.  Ordinarily, when you add music to your library, iTunes will create a directory with the Artist name and a subdirectory with the Album name.  My guess is there's something weird about one of these fields, perhaps an unprintable character that you can't see, and when it tries to create the directories it fails (maybe I was too hasty in not blaming Amazon!).  It might even be one of the individual song names.
    If you're happy with this solution, fine, but if you want to track it down, I'd try this;
    - select all the songs, do (right-click->get info)
    - Delete and reenter the Artist and Album names.  Make sure you clear the whole field
and don't use cut and paste.
    - reenable the copy and manage options
      - Try dragging the songs in again.
      - If that doesn't work, try dragging one at a time to see if a particular song is causing the problem.
      - If that's the case, check the fields for that song, and maybe reenter the title.
Note, if this works, you'll end up with two copies of everything, and you'll have to delete the one that wasn't copied.
In any event, I'd reenable the copy and manage options, so future music will be correctly copied.

  • Best way to import Mpeg-2 Video

I have a load of Mpeg-2 video that was encoded on my friends windows computer, is there an easy (and preferably free) way to import the video into iMovie without the quality degrading?

I'm almost certain that you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. MPEG Streamclip requires it, so I'm sure it's required to do anything with MPEG-2. http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
Use Quicktime Player either on the PC or Mac to determine if the file is a muxed file. On the Mac open the file in Quicktime Player and open the Movie Inspector window (command-i) or Window -> Show Movie Inspector. You will have to find where it's located on the PC (maybe alt-i).
In the Inspector window you will see Format which will include "Muxed" in the description. Muxed means that the Audio and Video are combined into one data stream. For some reason Quicktime Pro doesn't let you directly export the video with audio from muxed files. It takes a 3rd party program like Streamclip to separate the audio and video and recombine them into a different format.
I have a feeling that your files are not muxed and you only need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to get it to work. If you can get iMovie to import it then you can export it. Quicktime Pro may not export it for you. You can blame all this on patents and license fees.
    Best of luck

  • Importing mpeg-2 videos

I recently bought a macbook pro, and had a question about mpeg-2 files. I just finished shooting a movie, and have been capturing it onto my PC to store all of the files. Now I want to bring only the good takes over to my mac to edit the movie on Final Cut Express. When I try to import them though, I get an error saying basically that I can't use that format. Is there a way to allow the files to be imported and used? I found an mpeg-2 codec for quicktime for $20, but will that also work in final cut? It seems that if i can't get the files to work, my only other option will be to recapture each clip individually. Does anyone have any suggestions?

i transcoded it into avi format from the mpeg-2. i'm starting to think that it might be something from the PC not letting it work correctly. originally i captured it into premier pro, so that might have something different in the codecs. i think it will be best for me to just recapture the videos into final cut and go from there. so unless anyone else has any more suggestions, that's what i will go do. thank you for all of your help though, i am beginning to understand more about this now.

  • Problems importing MPEG 4 video to Ipod

I've converted some video to MPEG4 using Videora, but I cant import it to my ipod. I dont get any error message, but the vicdeo just doesnt appear in my ipod movies. I've done this loads of times before, but never had this problem - any ideas?

do the videos show up in iTunes? If so, did you check every folder in the video section of your iPod? When I tried loading my own video, it only showed up in the "Recently added video" section for some reason.

  • For some unbeknownst reason, my iTunes refuses to import any of my Madonna CD's!

I have never experienced any problems in the past when importing from CD's, I'm not using copies either - these are the original releases. I have randomly picked CD's from other artists to see if this problem applies to them and have found it doesn't. Why specifically Madonna?? Surely my iTunes can't disagree with my taste in music?! I've even copied the albums from a friend and tried importing the copies but get the same result - no music/ a distorted fuzzy version of the song.

At a guess these are copy controlled CDs. iTunes has been happy to accept all sorts of rubbish into my library.
Search the web for the album title and "Copy controlled" or "copy protected". The few times I have bought these types of disc I've been able to return them to the store as "not fit for purpose" but it may be too late for you on that count.

  • Incorrect aspect ratio when importing MPEG-4 Video file to project

My movie which originated from a commercial DVD, is a .m4v.ff.mov file.
The "ff" is the software interface (ffmpegX) that converts third party Unix media.
When I open it as a Quicktime movie it comes up in the correct 1: 2.35 aspect ratio.
and shows an actual pixel dimension of 720 x 304.
When I import that same file to FCP (version 5.1.4) it comes up as 720 x 480 pixels - a completely different aspect ratio. The viewer window shows the pixels to be a SQUARE format but it is grayed out.
I was able to de-select the "show as sq. pixels" in the canvas window but it only expands it to what appears to be a 1: 1.85 aspect ratio and not the 1: 2.35 which it should be.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
i would greatly appreciate someone with the expertise to solve this.
    Thanks,
    Richard

I think I figured it out for myself:
In the Viewer window go to the "Motion' tab, go down to Aspect ratio and move the slider to the left or right to adjust the width to height relationship.
I have no idea why this is solving the issue but it does.

  • How can I get my MPEG-2 video imported?

I just bought LR4 and intended to begin incorporating all of my video with my photos for a complete gallery.  I am unable to import mpeg-2 video.  I can import avi, but anything that is MPEG appears to be an issue.  Are there any codecs or plug-ins that will make these importable?

Are you saying you are trying to connect to the iPad via USB (probably via the Camera Connection Kit)?  If so, that doesn't work.  I don't think the Canon is an airprint printer, so your only other choice is to connect printer to computer via USB and download some application that routes airprint commands to the printer.  On the Mac, Printopia is one such application (there are others).  I don't know about PCs.

  • Importing MPEG 4 Movie into Keynote 2

After spending 5 days trying to import MPEG 4 video from a Canon Optura 500 videocam, I have learned:
Can't be done. Calling Apple help today, confirmed no possible solution to get the movies into Keynote. I tried everything and read all help information in Keynote and imovie.
What I did for a do or die presentation: Import clip from camera (no editing allowed, as your edits will be lost on transfer) into imovie, copy and paste from imovie to keynote 2, copy and paste from Keynote 2 to POWERPOINT!
click on movie on a powerpoint slide and click view, click custom animation, click on your clip and click extras, pick play on click, and you can now play your MPEG4 movie in a slide show.
An apple rep once told me, in an Apple store, that "Keynote was Powerpoint on steroids". See how bad steroids are for you.

sigh...while Keynote is an amazing product, the Apple store workers tend to over hype it, to the point of making it sound like it has EVERy feature of PPT, when it's really missing a ton of stuff still. Visually though, I have to agree, it makes PPT look like a toy.
That said, I'm trying to figure out what exactly your process was, and what did and didn't work. I looked up the specs on the 500, and it appears that while you can shoot in true DV format onto mini DV tape, it also shoots Mpeg4 onto the photo card. Is this what you shot in (as opposed to DV format onto tape)? If so, I'm trying to figure out how you even got it into iMovie as opposed to iPhoto, which is what you use to import movies from a media card. Also, I don't understand your comment on edits getting lost.
Next, your use of the term slide show is confusing, but I THINK what you'd like is to see the movie sitting there on a poster frame until you want it to play, and then click to make it play. You can do this to an extent, but you have to work around a few missing features in Keynote. Keynote STILL won't let you leave the poster frame showing on the slide and then have the movie play on a click...you'll actually see NOTHING until you trigger the movie as you have to add a build to the movie, and until it builds, you won't see the thing. The work around is to grab a frame of the movie and paste it onto the slide, then build the movie in right on top of it.
I hope that helps. If you can give more details on what you did and what you TRIED to do, and what you want to end up with, I can try to help you figure it out.
EDIT: ah, I see this in a review "Playback of media from the card and the tape is available in playback mode, as is recording to a VCR or a digital video (DV) device using a FireWire cable." which means you "should" be able to import into iMovie. The real draw back is you're working with mpeg4 and not DV...and Mpeg4 is REALLY compressed, not a good format to use if you plan to edit it as you'll have to decompress and recompress, losing quality (DV is also compressed, but not nearly as much).
