Itunes refuses to import one file

Itunes refuses to import one file. This file is unprotected, mp3 audio file of 72.3MG which happens to be a 'teach youself spanish' CD downloaded from Win/MX. As far as I can see thsi file does not differ from other files which itunes lets me import, apart perhaps from its length (it is over two hours long). itunes produces no message to explain why it will not import the file and so i am perplexed...

hi Jack!
hmmmmm. just checking. can WMP import and play this file? if so, can you convert it to another file format in WMP, like AIFF? if so, will itunes accept the file when it is in that format?
(a clunky workaround ... even if it works)

  • Itunes refuses to import some mp3 files.

    Hi,
Can someone please advise. I have an album of MP3 tracks. For some reason Itunes refuses to import all but 2 of the songs on the ablum. I have the files on the hard drive in my music folder which should be auto sync to Itunes. This does not happen with these mp3's. Also if I try to do it manually nothing happens. Any suggestions?
P.s I am using the latest version of Itunes and the MP3's play fine with media player etc.

Yeah, what stubchain said. If they play in WMP, then you've run into the bug where iTUnes can't read the MP3 tags.
iTunes has problems with v2.4 ID3 tags.
    http://www.id3.org/iTunes
iTunes also has a problem with v2.2 tags and artwork/beats per minutes tags on the same song.
Try setting them to v1 in another program and then see if iTunes can read them.
Then once iTnues can read tehm, I would convert them to v2.3 tags, which seem to be the most stable & have the best features.

  • Itunes refuses to import certain tracks

Hello everyone. ill cut to the chase:
iTunes refuses to import random songs in my collection that it used to play before.
I moved my music off of an external and no matter what i try be it adding the tracks to the "automaticly add to itunes" dragging the songs onto itunes going through the menu and adding them doesnt work either.
the songs play while im in finder. i have the latest updates for a while now so i doubt thats it.
@_@ im stumped....looked up a few times in google and no solutions for mac at the moment after going through several sites. any help would be appreciated

.mp3 checked the files myself using command + i
yes they play in quick time
no message it jsut does nothing lol
cant add the tracks to a playlist because i cant get them into itunes.
normally when i import a song it says "copying randomsong1" and then it adds an entry into the "recently added" smart playlist i tried making a copy of the song changing the name and seeing if that did anything and got the same result. NOTHING happens...

  • ITunes refuses to import mpeg-4 videos

I have a few mpeg-4 video clips on my computer that I want on my ipod. iTunes refuses to import them. I've tried file>add folder to library, file>add file to library and attempting to add them individually, I've tried dragging and dropping, again as a group and individually.
All methods give the same result: a dialog window with the progress bar. It scrolls through the names quickly, the progress bar gets to less than 10% before the dialog box disappears and there are no new videos in itunes at all.
    How do I fix this?

Sounds like you've got a setting wrong . . . Videodora is temperamental at best, you may want to go to iLounge go through the step by step tutorial they've got up.
    Good luck!

  • Itunes Crashes when importing Music File or Folder on Windows 7 64-Bit with Itune 10.5 and update ios 5

Itunes crashes when importing Music File or Folder ever since i updated it yesterday

You can try downloading 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and unpack the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file into its components then try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe or iCloud.msi). You may get a more useful error message as to which component has problems.

  • ITunes will not import mp4-files.

For some reason iTune will not import mp4-files into iTunes. The files only contain audio, no video. I know that mp4 is a format that combines the two.
The files were generated in an earlier version of iTunes, like in 2006 or something. They were imported from CD's. I can locate them just fine on my computer and they play without problem in Windows Media Player.
The problem is that when I try to import them the way that iTunes want me to import files its like they don't exist. ITunes locates the folders and sub-folders, but its like there's no content in the folders...
I've tried changing my import settings but nothing seems to help...
Have any of you encountered a similar problem, could you fix it and how?
I've contacted Apple-support but they were unable (incompetent) to assist me...
To me it seems like the only option left is to convert all the files, like 2 GB, from mp4 to mp3.
Thankful for any help I could get solving this ***** of an issue...

iTunes can handle just about any file format that works with QuickTime and will play any file purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store. If you've got video files that end with a .mov, .m4v, or .mp4 file extension, you can import them to iTunes with ease. However, the video especially the MP4 video must meet the following specifications: it must be encoded as 540 kbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with an approximately 128 kbit/s AAC audio track or encoded as 1.5 Mbit/s (minimum) MPEG-4 video (H.264) with a minimum 128 kbit/s AAC audio track. If not, you will fail to import MP4 to iTunes.
Even if your MP4 files meet the above specifications and are added to iTunes successfully, it may still fail to sync to iOS devices. For iPhones, iPads, and video-capable iPods play videos in more specific video formats and codecs.
Here is a detailed guide to get iTunes unfriendly MP4 to iTunes

  • ITunes refuse to import music etc

First, i tried to import a song that I wanted, and iTunes refuse to import it.
At first, i thought i was alright and i synced, it synced DOUBLE of ALL the music.
Tried to remove and failed, checked the "Sync only checked music", doesn't work.
When i go over to the music tab, there is only Sync music, if not its Selected Playlist etc. How do we actually choose what music we want to sync? How do i solve the problem of iTunes not importing my music?

I am having the a very similar problem.
iTunes will not sync music to any of my devices since 8.0.2
I also use the option "sync only checked songs".

  • ITunes refuses to import Amazon MP3 album, claims permissions won't allow me. What?

    I download through Amazon MP3.
I downloaded Muse's album and imported that into iTunes just fine, but for whatever reason, when I downloaded the Black Keys album El Camino it refuses to play ball.
I get "Attempting to copy to the disk "Macintosh HD" failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this."
Now, I did a permissions repair with Onyx, and even checked all the folders to make sure the permissions wasn't weirdly set, but nothing is wrong with those folders. They're not locked at all.
I can play the song files when I press space bar or even in things like VLC, but iTunes refuses to play ball for some reason. Is this an iTunes problem or Amazon? And if you could possibly point me to a forum post that is this exact problem I'd love you forever as I'm about to go on a cross-country road trip and would really love to play some Black Keys.

That's a workaround, but it doesn't really solve the mystery.  Ordinarily, when you add music to your library, iTunes will create a directory with the Artist name and a subdirectory with the Album name.  My guess is there's something weird about one of these fields, perhaps an unprintable character that you can't see, and when it tries to create the directories it fails (maybe I was too hasty in not blaming Amazon!).  It might even be one of the individual song names.
    If you're happy with this solution, fine, but if you want to track it down, I'd try this;
    - select all the songs, do (right-click->get info)
    - Delete and reenter the Artist and Album names.  Make sure you clear the whole field
and don't use cut and paste.
    - reenable the copy and manage options
      - Try dragging the songs in again.
      - If that doesn't work, try dragging one at a time to see if a particular song is causing the problem.
      - If that's the case, check the fields for that song, and maybe reenter the title.
Note, if this works, you'll end up with two copies of everything, and you'll have to delete the one that wasn't copied.
In any event, I'd reenable the copy and manage options, so future music will be correctly copied.

  • Itunes 8 wont import mp3 files

When I sync my ipod, it gives me an error message of about 40 mp3s that wont copy to the library because itunes doesnt support the audio format. The weird part is that these files werent added recently. I've had them on my ipod/library for awhile. The majority of the files were downloaded from Amazon.com, and they all play in WMP, and Quicktime. I've also checked the id tags with mp3tag, and all have the same version ID3v2.3, and all are indeed mp3 files. When I try to import them into my library, either by drag and drop or by adding file to library, Itunes does nothing. The file doesnt show up in the library at all. Any help with this would be appreciated.

I can no longer choose my kbps of the desired format I want when importing/converting from the DESKTOP.
No longer? This was never an option.
Where did you select this previously?
If the file is one iTunes already can use (WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC or Apple Lossless), it will simply add it to iTunes. It never asked what you wanted to convert it to.
However, it can be done without having to add and and then convert.
Go to iTunes prefs -> General and click th eImport setting button.
Set the format /bitrate you want the imported files to be.
Now hold the Option key and go to menu Advanced -> Convert selection to...
This will call up a windows to select folder/file. Select what you want, then OK.
This will import and convert the files the format you have set in iTunes prefs - Importing.

  • ITunes does not import certain files

    Hi everyone,
I had to reinstall my WinXP system and therefore also reinstalled iTunes (v9.0.3.15). Now, when I imported my whole MP3 directory, iTunes did not import some albums without displaying any error message. When I realized that some albums are missing, I tried to import them using drag&drop from the Windows Explorer, using the "File-Import file", "File-Import directory" (or whatever these menu items are called in english...), but nothing works! iTunes simply does... NOTHING. No error, no file imported, no action at all.
The files are fairly typical MP3 files: 192 kbps, 44kHz, ID3v1, ID3v2 both present, no DRM... And the most weird fact is: on my old WinXP system (same machine, but slightly older iTunes version) iTunes did import the files without problems!
I have no clue why iTunes won't import them. Does anybody else have an idea?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    gehho.

    Hi ed2345,
thanks a lot for proposing the MP3 Validator! This fixed my problem. For others having a similar problem: I used this software: http://www.gromkov.com/faq/repair/mp3_validator.html
However, I must say that I am really annoyed about iTunes and Apple. I mean, what kind of design is it when you say: "We do not accept slightly invalid files, although every other player accepts them. And most important: We do not display an error message to the user, so that he/she has to find the problem him/herself! Ha!" This is really extremely bad user experience, and I always thought Apple was known for their innovative path, especially regarding user experience. Pfff...
There are sooo many other things that annoy me; I think I will not buy any Apply product anymore. In my eyes, they have even overtaken Microsoft in being the most user-unfriendly company on the market:
    1) You HAVE to use iTunes to copy files on your iPod instead of just using the iPod as a USB drive. What is this for??? It's just to promote their stupid iTunes which again introduces new problems.
    2) iTunes obviously does not accept ID3v1 tags. It just displays all my MP3s which only have v1 tags as "Unknown". Come on, every other MP3 software supports ID3v1, why does not iTunes???
    3) The import process in iTunes is such a hassle. Instead of being able to observe a directory for new files, you have to add every single new album manually. Of course, only after you validated it... Moreover, you cannot add multiple directories at once using the menu options - you have to do it with drag&drop; and it took me some time to try that.
    4) EDIT: Another point just came to my mind: When importing a whole directory, iTunes is stupid enough to add all files once again, instead of just adding the new files. Therefore, you really have to know which album is missing in iTunes because otherwise you will have lots of files twice or three times or hundred times.
OK, that's enough for now. I am just really pi**ed off because I was playing around with those "invalid" files for about 5 hours. Might also be that it's me who's the stupid one - if so, please tell me. But from a company like Apple, I expect a software which is easily handled even by absolute newbies, and I would not call me a newbie...
Anyway, have a nice day everyone, and happy validating!
Thanks again to ed2345! The comments above were not meant for you! It just came out of my fingers... Btw: As you asked my to pick my interpretation... I would pick "INCOMPETENT" - completely!

  • IMovie 11 only imports one file at a time

Recently, aside from the legendary stability issues (decent today, thank you very much) - I am working on a lenghty project with dozens of clips, but in the Import Movies dialog, no matter how many files I select, I only get ONE file. I have to go back and fetch them one at a time. Yes, they are .MOV file, even better, they were EXPORTED with iMovie... so I am reasonably sure it's NOT format issues.
So with a complex composition, imagine how tedious it is to bring in clips one at a time...

  • ITune crashes when importing .mov files

I have a few mov files on the desktop and dragged them to iTune library. iTune shut down without warning. I also tried importing it by selecting File>Import, but this did the same thing. Any suggestions?
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Returning to Mac after 10 years of absence

The File > Import menu is not for adding sound or video files to iTunes. Instead, try the File > Add to Library menu.
Also, the properties of the .mov files may not be such that iTunes supports them. You can check the info using QuickTime Player. If necessary, you can convert the files to a supported format using a number of freeware/shareware/commercial applications available from Macupdate and Versiontracker.

  • ITunes freezes after importing one cd and alters normal computer function

After I import one CD, my computer will not recognize any other cds I insert and itunes freezes. After I force itunes to quit, my computer continues to "act up" and will not retrieve any webpage information from the internet. If I try to restart itunes it fails to open and does not give me any sort of error message. I have to reboot my computer to resume normal function.
I did the remove and reinstall of Quicktime recommended in other discussions since those problems seemed similar to mine. However, it didn't do the trick.
I am running McAfee, not Norton.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
      Windows XP

Also having issues with similar problem. Also cannot burn CD's with new music purchased, however, old music works perfectly. I noticed that after purchase, there is also a return on the account purchasing FROM. DOn't know if this means that the music is no longer licensed, as it would seem that it is unpaid for at this time. Are you able to assist? This would be easier by phone, but no phone support available.

  • Lightroom refuses to import RAW files.

    Hello,
I have Lightroom version 1.4.1 (just downloaded the update), and cannot upload RAW files from my Canon 20D or 5D. What happens is that Lightroom will either:
    (1) Upload just 12-15 files, then freeze up. The light on my camera stops glowing red and it says "busy" on the camera LCD display. After waiting 30 minutes I get the spinning rainbow ball on the screen. When I try a "Force Quit" Lightroom does not respond at all.
    -or-
    (2) Nothing at all happens! No images are uploaded, Lightroom freezes up and the camera does nothing.
My setup is an Intel PowerMac with 8 gigs of memory, 3 1TB drives, and an Nvidia GFX 8800 graphics card. I am using OSX 10.5.4.
I tried deleting the plist file at least 3-4 times, tried different cards in either of the cameras, and I always get the same results.
    Help!

    David
Finally I found someone with the same problem I've been experiencing in the last 3 months.
This problem actually started after on LR 1.4.1 but
after I upgraded to LR 2.0, it now freezes half way on import just like you described, it actually take the OS hostage and not even force quit works, I have to force the system to shut down by pressing the power button.
Then I tried to see if I could import with Bridge and I ran into the same problem and had to take the same action.
I have switched cards, card readers and USB ports (used the front and back ports) but nothing seem to work.
But when I use Image Capture to import raw files, it works fine, no problems there.
I also upgraded the PS3/Bridge Camera Raw to the most recent version to be compatible with the LR 2.0 version.
I also have the 20D and 5D but I use card readers instead of plugging the camera directly into the computer.
It seems the problem is the way Leopard reads XMP data, that's something I found on a forum somewhere and it looks like Apple has not addressed this issue yet.
    I'm running Leopard on a 2.8 Gig / 8 core and 4GIGs of ram.
For now, my solution to this problem is to import raw files from the card reader using Image Capture and down load them into my LR library.
    That's my 2 cents

  • Itunes won't import wma files or play them - why not?

I thought itunes automatically converts the wma files on my macbook to aac or a format that it can play.  Does anyone know how to do this please?  I have a lot of music on my macbook but these are all wma files so can't add them to itunes library.  Thanks.

Thanks, Niel!  That makes sense.  I used to use itunes a lot on my old pc laptop.  Hadn't really gotten around to using it much, if at all, on my macbook pro.
    Much obliged,
