ITunes refuses to launch

I just updated to the newest version of iTunes, and upon restarting, iTunes refuses to launch. I tried launching from applications, restarting, reinstalling, and deleting my library settings file for iTunes, but nothing has worked. No other programs are running.
When I try to start iTunes, the icon bounces for less than a second, and then stops, and the application never starts.
I'm at a loss, any idea's?

See this.
Fixed mine.
It seems that the enhancer wont allow the licence agreement pop up to show for the new update.
When disabled you can agree to the licence then re-enable the enhancer the re-start and everything should then be back to normal.

  • ITunes update to 4.0 requires checking 32-bit mode in "Get Info" window. No such checkbox exists. iTunes refuses to launch. iMac 27-in., Mac OS 10.6.8. Tried re-installing iTunes 4, but went into infinite loop while in "Registering Installed Components"

After updating to iTunes 4, launching the application indicated that 64-bit mode was only available in Mac OS 10.7 Lion and to use in 32-bit mode by checking the 32-bit mode checkbox in the iTunes "Get Info" window. However, this window does not have the aforementioned checkbox. Thus, iTunes is now unusable.  Tried to download fresh install from Apple site, but this process went into an infinite loop during the "registering installed components" phase of the installation. Had to force quit. System is iMac 27-inch, Core i7 processor, Mac OS 10.6.8.  Is there a problem with iTunes 4? Can I go back to the previous version? Thanks.

Ah! I found several other people with the same problem in this forum. I followed the suggestion to move iTunes 4 from the "Applications" to the desktop and launch it from there. It worked! I moved it back into the Application folder and its still okay.  Thanks!  This is a definitely a bug that Apple needs to address quickly.

  • ITunes refuses to Launch, load, install, run

I have been a user of iTunes for 3yrs. I have had to download multiple copies since my computer seems to have problems with it. Recently iTunes has completely stopped working regardless of my attempts to uninstall it then reinstall the program. I am planning on buying a new computer and have music that I have uploaded stored on iTunes with no way to access it. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Could you explain your problem a little more exactly. It is not clear where your problem lies from your post.
What error message if any do you get when you try to open iTunes?
Does Quicktime work normally? iTunes cannot work without Quicktime. If not what error message do you get?
What error message do you get when you try to install iTunes?
Can you uninstall iTunes? If not, what error message do you get if any?

  • ITunes doesn't launch - no errors or anything.

iTunes refuses to launch after I closed it through the Task Manager because it wasn't responding. Does anyone have a solution for this? Please, help.
    iTunes 7   Windows XP

some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
    (1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC?
    (2) try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)
    (3) reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

  • The application "iTunes" cannot be launched. -600

Suddenly my iTunes refuses to launch. It just sits in the dock like it is running, but no window. And if I try to Force Quit it, it remains in the dock.
If I try to launch iTunes again, it gives me an error: *The application “iTunes” cannot be launched. -600*
    Not really useful.
I don't have that Intego something installed that could give this error. I tried installing the 10.5.1 update downloaded from apple.com. I repaired permissions several times. Moved all iTunes prefs out of Preferences. Renamed the iTunes folder in ~/Music. Downloaded and installed iTunes.
    Still no go.
But then, just as Im writing this. I realize I have an iPod Shuffle sitting in its dock, connected to my iMac. I just tried unplugging it, and of course iTunes starts right away. Whod've thunk?
Looking through Console. I did find this:
    *20/11/07 23.53.19 kernel comapple_driveriPodSBC::setPowerState(0x5da7b00, 3 -> 4) timed out after 100129 ms *
I hope this can help some others.

  • ITunes will not launch! Help!

iTunes refuses to launch for me. It bounces in the dock several times, the stops bouncing. Force-Quit menu will still show that iTunes is "Application not responding." Then force quit, and try to restart, but my Mac will not shut down. It sits at the desktop wallpaper.
    I have a 27" iMac running 10.6.3.
    Thanks in advance.

    try these user tips:
try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
and, if you have flip4mac installed
I found that the TSLicense plugin was causing the problem.
    From the log:
    PlugIn Path: /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense
    PlugIn Identifier: net.telestream.license
This pIugin is installed with the Flip4Mac Windows Media Components. I solved the problem by uninstalling the WM Components via the uninstaller at /Applications/Flip4Mac/Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg, after which iTunes opens successfully.

  • Ipod Nano refuses to launch automatically with itunes 8.2 on mac

    Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can please help. I have a 2nd Generation Nano and it now refuses to launch my itunes 8.2 automatically and therefore I am unable to get to my ipod's music at all via my mac.
I used to get the DO Not disconnect logo flash up on screen, but this NO longer activates. It does however still charge the ipod fully via the USB cable provided.
I've now had to resort to uninstalling 8.2 and trying to work with 8.01, but this doesn't appear to have rectified the problem. I have yet to restore the ipod but was hoping I could avoid that option.
If anyone has experienced anything similar or has a solution to the problem please get in touch.

    pictures illustrating the problem:
"iPhone" is an album containing 111 photos. No photos actually appear even after syncing - as shown by the capacity bar at the bottom:
    http://i42.tinypic.com/30mo2ev.jpg
Note: I've tried syncing just ONE photo (inside AND outside iPhoto) and it doesnt work.
Also tried under Windows XP and syncing ONE photo. Didn't work either. (also running iTunes 8.2 as I don't have an old version to try...)
iPod Photo Cache is created correctly. Tried deleting and recreating it. Definitely works.
    http://i41.tinypic.com/1217og4.jpg
If I use something like the demo of Ecamm Phone View ( http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/ ) to view the contents of the iPhone, it is clear that NONE of the iPod Photo Cache thumbnails got transferred to the iPhone. (If i manually transfer it into the Photos folder the photos work – of course, until iTunes syncs again as it then deletes all the photos once again.)
Tried restoring iPhone - no help.
Clearly the problem is sporadic (as not many ppl have reported it) but yet, for those that are affected, it stops something that has worked before.

  • Itunes 10.4 refuses to launch

Twice now I've tried to upgrade iTunes to 10.4 on two 64-bit Windows 7 machines (the second time I waited for 10.4.1), and twice the results were catastrophic, with iTunes stubbornly refusing to launch, with no error message whatsoever.  Zapping the old music libraries and the SC Info files did not help.
    Any clues?

  • Help, iTunes refuses to not auto launch when iPhone connected to computer

Hi, anyone else have this obnoxious problem? I unchecked "auto syncing" and all of the possible disabling options in iTunes>Preferences. Another forum I visted mentioned disabling iTunes Helper. I am having a problem launching iTunes Helper because I did a search from the main Windows Start area (lower left of computer screen), and iTunes Helper does show up with a .exe extension showing it's an application. However, when I click on it, it just disappears. It's also not listed in "My Programs" or when I run "msconfig". Is finding iTunes Helper so I can disable it what I need here to keep iTunes from auto launching when the iPhone is connected, or is my solution in doing something else? I'm using iTunes 9.0.25 Any solid help here is much appreciated!

I don't have an iPhone but I imagine it is probably similar to using an iPod. When I connect the iPod to the computer and it shows up in iTunes under devices, click on the device (iPhone), in the device screen that appears there is an options section that has a check-box "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected." Un-check it.

  • ITunes Refuses to Open. No Joke.

I have spent a month following every possible suggestion given, and nothing seems to work. My problem started when I downloaded the updated version of iTunes...Ever since then, it refuses to open. Can someone please help me before I throw my laptop into the river? (I'm training for a marathon and I really need new music)

I, too, am experiencing the same problem. Nothing helps. I've uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Bounjour, etc. 3-4 times. I've de-activated my anti-virus/spyware software (not Norton). I've done selective start-up (turning off most services/start up software). I've started up as a different user.
I was on the phone with Apple for 2+ hours uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting specific configuration files.
    Nothing has helped.
I start up iTunes, and when I look in Task Manager, iTunes.exe is running, first using some CPU, then, after about 10 seconds, using no CPU, and iTunes does not launch.
Has anyone found a solution yet?

  • ITunes refuses to start up

After a few uses, my iTunes refuses to open, giving the standard Windows XP message saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling from both the CD and from the website and both have proven ineffective. If anyone can help me out, I would be most grateful.

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevents it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.

  • ITunes doesn't launch...

I recently downloaded the updated version of iTunes from the Apple website as recommended by the version of iTunes I installed from the CD that came with my iPod.
    I have a 4 GB Nano iPod...
Anyway, one day for some strange reason, the software refused to open when I double-click it either from the desktop icon, or from the start menu shortcuts. I assumed it was a software problem and I re-installed. Now, the problem persists and I am unable to use my iPod with iTunes on my computer.
Additionally, I had a friend use my iPod on his computer which also has iTunes installed...(he has a 30 GB Video iPod)...he said that my iPod was not connecting with his version of iTunes either...although his iPod works perfectly fine on his system.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
I'd really appreciate some help on this..
    Cheers!

Next time, try the Installing or Using iTunes Forum. But, I can help you. So, it was working, then all of a sudden did not? Or did it stop working after upgrading to a newer version?
If it randomly stopped working, my first guess would be malware. There are malware programs out there that cause iTunes to not launch without giving any error message. Your first step should be to rule this cause out or correct it. You can find a free malware program called EWIDO here: http://www.ewido.net/en/ It is remarkable in how it detects and removes the malware that causes this crash and burn of iTunes.
If this stopped working after an upgrade, I would still look at malware as a cause, but also your antivirus and firewall programs. Many of them tend to interfere with iTunes by either blocking it from opening, or interferring with the successful download and install causing it to be bungled up. Also, check on your PC to see if Quicktime got installed. Sometimes they just bungle up Quicktime, and iTunes cannot open and work without Quicktime. You can download the Quicktime standalone here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
Good Luck and post back if you have problems and/or questions.

  • Quicktime Pro 7 refuses to launch independently after installation of AVID MC7 / Sorenson Squeeze

    Hi guys,
Hopefully someone knows a fix for this.
After installation MC7 and Squeeze, i can no longer launch QT / QT Pro. The only way i can play .mov files is via iTunes, which for me is less than desireable. So the codec is obviously there.
Please note that QT 7 (non pro) was working fine prior to installing Avid & Sorenson.
I've tried 'repairing' QT by downloading the file, but even after the repair it still refuses to launch.
Also, QT is non longer listed in the 'open with' options... Please help!
Windows 7 home x64 (latest ver.)
    x6 Phenom 945
    8GB Ram
    GTX 560 ti

    Good catch!
I must note that when i launch QT from the start button and it prompts the user account control popup, i notice the target is in 'Program Files - Quicktime Alternative.'
It'll probably be a conflict with QuickTime Alternative (It's a third-party chop-down of QuickTime) and the standard QuickTime Player.
Head into your uninstall a program control panel. Uninstall QuickTime, then uninstall QuickTime Alternative. Now try reinstalling the QuickTime Player:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Does the player launch for you now?

  • Leopard 10.5.7 refuses to launch applications after "erase and install"

I have an older iMac G5 (1.6Mhz PPC, 2 Gb RAM) born with Panther OS. I wanted to update some applications so I could have a secure browser and other apps. I upgraded the RAM to 2 Gb as a first step. The additional RAM really perked up the old iMac so the next step was to update the OS to 10.5.6 using a DVD that was printed in Jan '09 and sold as part of a bundle pack with the new iLife 09 and iWork 09.
I thought I could get away with an overwrite installation and I knew there were risks in doing that. The result was a really bugey computer with frequent terminal views, kernel panics and even hard shut downs. Apple issued the 10.5.7 update and that helped stabilize the system somewhat.
I still had problems with instablility of the OS and with Safari 3.2.3, Firefox 3 and other applications. I decided to reinstall Leopard using the archive and install procedure. The 2nd install stabilized the OS but I still had problems with browsers and Open Office refusing to launch.
I did lots of troubleshooting using Onyx, MemTest OSX, repair permissions in the Disk Utility, etc. I created a new user account and the problems persisted. I decided to try a third install of the OS using the Erase and Install procedure.
The system now has Safari 4.0.1 but after a few page views Safari crashed and now it crashes as soon as you launch it. A freshly downloaded Camino browser does the same thing. iTunes, System Profiler and a fresh download of Onyx also refuse to launch. All of them crash while launching.
I can launch an ancient version of IE and Firefox 3 from the desktop.
After the last OS X install, I noticed the system did not accept the first attempts at downloading the Leopard updates and the Safari update. A second attempt was successful for both. I am reluctanct to proceed with installing anymore applications until I can fix what I believe is a problem with the OS. The OS worked well after the archive and install procedure and I am thinking it should be able to work at least as well after the erase and install.
I live in a rural area and the nearest Apple "genius" counter is about a 5 hour round trip. Is there anyone out there that has encountered this problem?

The Internet Explorer came with the iMac and I never used it. I had it on a disk so I put it on the desktop to get a download of Camino after Safari failed. It's so old that most websites can't render for it unless they have some html default page.
Here is what the Crash Reporter log had. The iTunes was on the OS X install disk. The Camino browser was downloaded from Caminobrowser.org.

  • ITunes No Longer Launches Automatically When My iPhone Plugs In

So as the subject line says, my iPhone no longer starts iTunes when it is automatically plugged in. It just stopped doing this after I talked to AppleCare to get my MobileMe working (my computer is old so it uses .Mac but it wouldn't load successfully so AppleCare changed some preferences around). Anyway, now when I plug my iPhone in, iPhoto launches but in order to get my phone to perform a backup, I have to manually open iTunes when before both iTunes and iPhoto launched automatically.
Anybody know how I can get it back to launching automatically when I plug my phone in to the computer?

Like the poster "Sig", I have this problem as well.
I checked the Login Items in the preferences and the radio button was checked. So, that's not the case. Nor was I using any iPhone utility either.
Now, I tried all alternate USB ports on my Mac Pro and I also tried plugging into my iMac 20' 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo. My iPhone is not recognized on either. I think it's something specific to iPhone v3.01 and 3.1 software. Because, I've not upgraded my iMac's iTunes yet. So, I think we can either rule out it being iTunes' fault. That or this iTunesHelper needs is broken... if that is the case.
So, do we have some better solutions to this problem?
PS: Oh, and yes, I did update iTunes to v9.0.1 on my Mac Pro. Still no response.
