ITunes refuses to read music on second internal HDD

Hello!
I realize this topic has been asked to death, we need some form of sticky topic! After a bit of searching, I haven't turned up anything I haven't tried.
Here goes:
-I just got my old 400mhz AGP G4 up and running - 768 MB RAM, OS 10.4.8, a new SuperDrive, airport, and 2 internal HDDs - an 80 gig and a 60 gig. Well, the 80G is my boot drive, and holds just about everything. I'd like to move my ~17 Gig iTunes library over to the 60 Gig drive, which is currently empty. Here's what I tried:
Method 1: Read this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=607487
It worked great - except that trashing the files (on boot drive) caused iTunes to give a completely empty library.
Method 2: Copy all files to secondary drive, and attempt to get iTunes (now empty) to accept the library. It didn't work - if I try to import library, I'll get 4000 songs and no playlists!
Method 3: Use .Mac's Backup to attempt to restore the library to secondary drive. No luck - iTunes still refuses to read the file. (Same as 2)
Any tips?
One more thing: How can you tell who is listening to your shared iTunes library? There used to be a widget for that - but I can't find it anymore.
Thanks,
-Dan

Right, I know. But the procedure of choosing a new location for the library, checking the box, and having iTunes copy the files is the same for both platforms. I suppose I was too lazy to type it out, hm?
Anyway, It's actually copied from my Powerbook - the Powerbook library is the master copy, although I like to have a fairly current library over on the G4 as it's very useful when the Powerbook is packed up for school, or when I'm taxing the Powerbook to the limit (eg, Final Cut render, gaming, etc). It's a fairly simple matter to copy the files, although long. And for what it's worth, they were all still in the trash - I had yet to delete them! So, everything was still there.
What I eventually did was just to copy them back to the original boot drive, then follow the select-new-location>let iTunes copy method, then just delete the MUSIC files, not the iTunes-required files. Essentially, your second Apple help doc link. It works like a charm now.
Sigh... that's one of those "DO'H" moments.
Thanks,
-Dan

  • Second internal HDD ejecting

    Hey,
I could really do with some help here.
I have a 13inch early 2011 MacBook Pro that's having issues with a second internal HDD I fitted.
I replaced the 320gb HDD with a 240gb SSD and then fitted a 1TB drive in the optical bay as I needed a performance boost and some more storage.
The issue is that anytime I transfer any files that are fairly substantial it results in the 1TB drive being ejected and I get the typical message about a drive being ejected etc.
Now, this happens once in a blue moon as I mostly use the MacBook Pro for photography, more often than not the files aren't enough to trouble it.
I do however, have two video projects that I need to export and the drive keeps ejecting on me every time I tell Premiere Pro to export.
To save the hassle of moving the media files over and creating the project again does anyone have any tips or hints to get this running properly?
    Macbook specs:
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
Really appreciate any help on this

I have nt used the device that you mention but I have heard from a few people that it works quite well. From what I understand, there is one caveat for you to think about... Apparently iDVD only works with an internal DVD drive, so with one of these you will need to use some other application for watching DVD movies on your MBP.
I have been told that using one of these in combination with an SSD drive for booting your OS (in the internal bay/slot) that you get the best of both worlds. You get fast boot times, and you get the larger storage drive for installing applications. Once again, no personal experience here though.

  • ITunes refuse to import music etc

First, i tried to import a song that I wanted, and iTunes refuse to import it.
At first, i thought i was alright and i synced, it synced DOUBLE of ALL the music.
Tried to remove and failed, checked the "Sync only checked music", doesn't work.
When i go over to the music tab, there is only Sync music, if not its Selected Playlist etc. How do we actually choose what music we want to sync? How do i solve the problem of iTunes not importing my music?

I am having the a very similar problem.
iTunes will not sync music to any of my devices since 8.0.2
I also use the option "sync only checked songs".

  • ID3 tags and itunes refusing to add music to library

As my music collection is growing, I decided to organize it a bit more and fill in the different ID3 tags in windows.
I have emptied my itunes library before I did all this, and after changing the ID3 tags I added the different albums back to itunes.
However, for some reason itunes does not want to import several albums anymore, while they do play in windows media player. Furthermore, itunes refuses in many cases to make use of the new ID3 tags I made. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, itunes seems to remember my settings and the ID3 tags the different MP3s had before.
Anyone a clue what is happening here? Has it someting to do with the new version of itunes, or is it something else?
    ciao, Gregorius

Hey, first of all, thanks for your help, but I'm still in problems.
I have noticed that itunes imports the music files before I alter the ID3 tags (from backup files). However, as soon as I try to add the same file to my itunes library after I have edited the ID3 file (via windows itself), itunes does not add the file to its library anymore. This is happening to a considerable amount of my music. When I try to play the same files in windows mediaplayer, they play without a problem, so I guess the problem is with itunes.
Somebody can please help me out, because I like to be in control of my music, and not itunes,
    adios Gregorius

  • Adding a second internal HDD on a Satellite A350-20s

    I have a Satellite A350-20s.
It is described in its documentation as having the option to add a second internal 2"5 hdd, and a indeed there is a place reserved for it..
The problem is that when I remove the cover to insert the hdd there is no connector.
So, how to do it ?

    Hi buddy,
Well, I have even checked the manual of my Satellite A350 and there you can see that the manual shows second HDD slot. But as Paolo30 wrote installing such a HDD is depending on the HDD controller You can only install such a HDD if you have a second HDD connector.
In my opinion all its ok because the manual doesnt mention that adding a second HDD is possible on every notebook. ;)
By the way: If you need more disk space you can use an external HDD, for example 2.5 one. Such HDDs dont need an additional power supply, you need only an USB cable to connect it. ;)

  • Qosmio X770-13E - can I built it second internal HDD/SSD?

Hello from the snowy mountains of Savoy !
My computer is a Qosmio X770-13E.
I am disappointed because it runs very slowly (I have the "windows 7 explorer green bar problem" ...)
I have extended the RAM to 8 Go : no real speed change.
In this computer there is only one hard drive (750 Go, 5400 turns/minute).
The windows hard disk access evaluation is only 5.9 !
There is an empty place near the hard drive, so I wonder if it is possible or not to add a second internal hard drive or even a SSD.
I have searched for this in the user's manual : no answer !
And on the web, I have also found no answer.
    Perhaps on this forum ?
Thanks, and excuse me for my "amateur english" (I am french !)
    Jerome.

Generally speaking it is not easy to discuss about notebook performance. Every of us uses notebook with specific configuration and preinstalled applications that may run in the background and slow down notebooks reaction.
All I can say is that you should check OS configuration and disable some useless applications to start with Windows. Disable also automatic Windows update installation. This can also slow down notebook operations.
    HDD/SSD
I dont have this Qosmio notebook but what will be interesting to know is follow: when you remove this cover and check empty place is HDD/SSD connector available or not?

  • Yosemite ejects second (internal) HDD hard drive

Before Yosemite, my machine (2010 MBP 15") worked great with:
    Main drive: 128 SSD
    Second (internal) drive: 750 HDD
Ever since Yosemite, my computer will randomly eject the second internal drive.
I thought it was the drive, so I put the original 320 HDD in the optical bay and I got the same message:
Anyone else have the same issue?
    Anyone get it resolved?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your answer.
    No place in my L500-19e.
I have installed a HDD bay for the CD ROM Slot.

  • Replacement second internal HDD causing problems.

About a year ago I replaced my internal 500gb HDD in my MacBookPro8,2 with a SSD drive and moved the original HDD to replace the DVD drive.
I boot Mac OSX Lion from the SSD and this has been running perfectly since then, however I am now running out of space on the 500gb drive, so I replaced it with a 750gb drive.
So I brought a western digital WD7500BPVX drive.
Then using a external drive dock, I formatted it to journaled HFS+, and then cloned the 500gb drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.
When the clone was finished, I used Disk Utility to verify the disk, All Good.
I use the second drive to hold all my large media files and also a number of VMWare images, I tested these and all working.
I then put the drive into the macbook in place of the 500gb, and the fun began!
It boots up OK, but the WD disk is very slow to appear in the finder, also each folder you click on hangs with the spinning beach ball for 30 to 40 seconds.
If you keep clicking on different folders in the drive Finder eventually stops responding.
I opened up Disk Utility, tried to verifiy the disk and Disk Utility spins it wheels for a while then hangs.
I restarted and tried repairing the disk with Disk Utility but it says it can't unmount the drive.
Note, If I don't use the second drive the MacBook work fine.
So I then swapped the original 500gb drive back in, and put the WD750 drive back in the external USB dock.
I then verified the disk using Disk Utility and it passed, I have tried open files, and they work!!!
Could this be a problem because I cloned the disk rather than just copying the files??
Any ideas before I wipe the disk and start the 480gb copy again??

    I just found this at http://www.macfixit.com.au/owc-data-doubler-optical-bay-hard-drive-ssd-mounting- solution-for-macbook-and-macbook-pro-unibody-models.html
Special compatibility notes related to use of this product with 6Gb/s SSDs in the following machines:
    2011 MacBook Pro 15" (Model ID MacBookPro8,2)
    2011 MacBook Pro 17" (Model ID MacBookPro8,3)
OPTICAL BAY: The optical bay interface in these machines may either be SATA Revision 2.0 3Gb/s OR SATA Revision 3.0 6Gb/s. There is no way to specify/order this data interface with Apple, but you can confirm what interface/link speed version your optical bay offers via the Apple System Profiler.
Testing has demonstrated that Apple factory hardware does not reliably support a 6G (6Gb/s) Solid State Drive or Hard Disk Drive in the optical bay of 2011 MacBook Pros (ModeI ID8,1; 8,2; 8,3). If your OWC Data Doubler bundle comes with a 6G drive, you should ONLY install that drive in the main drive bay and utilize the Data Doubler to re-task your existing drive or install a new 3G SSD or HDD in the optical bay. PRE-2011 models can utilize a 6G drive in the optical bay, but will do so at a reduced 3G (3Gb/s) speed.
Seems like I can't use this drive as it is a 6GB/s!!!

  • Trying to install windows on second internal HDD, keep getting black screen?

I recently took the optical drive out of my 15" 2011 Macbook Pro, and replaced it with a second hard drive. I want to install windows on this second hard drive. However, when I try to do this through boot camp, it simply goes to a black screen with a blinking white cursor and stays there forever (presumably). I am using a windows install disk run out of the optical drive that came with the computer, which is now connected via a usb encolsure. I am running OSX out of my new SSD, which is in the main hard drive bay. The old hard drive that came with the computer is now in the optical bay. I have successfully installed windows from this disk onto my computer using boot camp before. Why is this not working, and what can I do to fix it?

Swap back and remove the drive that will not be used for Windows.
Booting from external DVD or devices is not supported.
The Mac Pro has of course had multiple hard drives and always easy but needed to remove other drives. Windows does not install if it sees a drive with GPT even though not the drive Windows is targeted to use.

  • Migration assistant to copy from mac mini internal drive to second internal drive fails, 'not enough space'

I have a 2011 mac mini and I just installed a second internal HDD using an OWC data doubler kit. So now I have two internal HDD.
The original HDD is 750 GB and the new one is 1 TB. After the installation I manually formatted the 1 TB drive with one Mac OS Extended  (Journaled) partition.
I then installed a fresh copy of Mavericks on the new 1 TB and during the installation tried to use Migration Assistant to move my user account over (mainly to get all the iTunes and iPhoto stuff).
The original HDD 610 GB used, so 140 GB free.
Migration Assistant correctly detects the original HDD but when I try to copy things over it says there is not enough space.
Can anyone help me figure out what I need to do to get Migration Assistant to move my stuff from the original HDD over to the new one?

I feel like such an idiot. I had manually tried to copy files over using the command line before I found out about the Migration Assistant tool. My manual copy had used up 500 GB.
I deleted all of that and now I have no issues with the Migration Assistant.
    Sorry for taking your time!

Yes, but remember that if your system crashes, then the TM backup may not be available for use.

  • Installing 2nd Internal HDD, Cleaning Out Original

Hi everyone. I know this question has been asked before, but I can't find the exact situation I'm in in my searches.
I've just physically installed a second internal HDD in my G5, but other than clicked Initialize during the first prompt, have done nothing with it. I would like to take the opportunity to clean out my original drive in the process. Can someone direct me to a tutorial on copying my material to the 2nd hard drive, cleaning out the first, and then moving everything back onto the first?
I see some threads about cloning, but wasn't quite sure if that's what I needed. I'm kinda new to installing drives, disk utility, and such. I appreciate your help.

Hi. In that case you could clone your current drive to the new one with CCC
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
Run Disk Utility > Verify Disk and Repair Permissions on the current drive before you clone. The CCC Help is worth a look.
Then boot from the new drive by selecting the boot drive before you Shutdown, in System Preferences > Startup Disc - or Startup holding down the Option(alt) key and select the boot drive from those offered. (Can be a bit slow to find the boot drives sometimes)
Boot several times from the new drive to make sure it's ok.
Then you can delete the unwanted files from the old boot drive.
Or - once you have cloned - and tested that you can boot from it - you could erase and install a new system on the 'old' drive, and download and install the combo 10.5.2 updater
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1052comboupdate.html
and then copy your files from the cloned 'new' drive.
The possibilities are endless... Good Luck.

the best way would be to copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on your Mac to the external, then launch iTunes while holding the option (⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
I have pointed itunes towards external but still not working, driving me nuts!
that tells iTunes where to put new additions to your library, not where the content currently is.

I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extreme (2 TB drive plugged into the USB port).  I see the drive on my laptop and I can add and delete files no problem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptop's hard drive?  I don't have enough space to do that.

How did you move the music to the external drive?  What exactly is on the drive?  The entire iTunes folder or only music?  If it is the entire iTunes folder you can do the option+start suggestion earlier.  If you copied only music and did so by dragging it there then you need to delete it again and consolidate/organize it there instead so iTunes tracks the move.  iTunes 12 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507
