Itunes refuses to work

I get a "report error" program and get linked to the quicktime support. I've done everything stated in the troubleshooting and not a **** thing works. Please do not use information from the troubleshooting because it is useless information that cannot help me in any way. Thanks.

This is what I post when hardly any info is given.
top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are
- turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests
- installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
- setting up Norton to allow iTunes
- scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
- last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts

  • ITunes refuses to work if PC is not disconnected from the internet

I don't open iTunes very often, only when I feel the need to sync my iPad Mini. I just opened the program today after not using it since maybe December, when it all worked fine (I run on Windows XP) and it only ran for about two seconds before suddenly crashing without a warning or error message. I've already tried troubleshooting on apple's website and even completely removed and reinstalled all iTunes components and actual program but nothing worked except one thing: disconnecting my computer from the internet, which allowed iTunes to run fine. Naturally, I can't work as I should be with it while offline (store, Apple ID. Etc. are not available). Please help.

  • ITunes refuses to work..getting and error

When I click to open iTunes it says that I have missing files and to reinstall iTunes. I've done that and it keeps saying it. I've d/l an older version of iTunes, newest version, older version of quicktime, newer version.
    Nothing is working.
    Any ideas?

Restore the devices as new, sync content to them.

  • Itunes refuses to work correctly after update

This happens every other time I update iTunes.  I will probably not buy another Apple product if they can't even fix their most basic of systems, one needed for all the hand held devices...
I get two messages on the lastest update.  Here is one:

    Here is the other:

How do I fix this?  I'm getting irritated that this keeps happening.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled items 5 times.  This is getting really old..

For the driver issues try Andrei Cerbu's post here, JF Fourie's post here, or see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5, forcing a driver update.
For the other issue try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.
If not try working through TS1717: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
Otherwise for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • How to make iTunes 64 bit work with iPad Air in win 8.1 64 bit?

I have purchased - or updated - my iPad to Air and recently noticed that my windows (8.1 pro) environment iTunes refuses to work with iPad by telling me that I need 64 bit version of the software. My environment is genuine Core i5 system with windows 8.1 pro 64 bit and iTunes is installed as instructed. I have removed all Apple components and reinstalled, but no success. One odd detail is that every time when Apple updater informs me that there is new iTunes available and I choose install option, installation fails and I have to remove manually all Apple components and then install iTunes. Installation seems to go fine, but during installation there is a phase when I can briefly see that system is rollbacking something - could this be vital? Like loosing something that makes system to refuse to install required things that make things work as they should? Like: are there known hw/sw issues that make installation process change installation from 64 bit to 32 bit during installation?
    --IKemario

Apple iPad appears to be under "Portable Devices" section and driver is from Microsoft. There is no driver under USB-section and instructions that provided in first reply I have gone thru and they are no go with this problem - they are more likely for older iPod etc devices and dot with issue to deal with 64bit/32bit things. The picture (image.jpg) gives me unfortunately just general error...

  • ITunes still not working after uninstall and install. Help?

iTunes hasn't opened on my computer for a few weeks. Before uninstalling, I went to Control Panel and chose the 'Repair' option which did nothing. I ran a scan to see if there a virus, came up clean. I uninstalled it completely and reinstalled the latest version and it still will not open.  Any ideas? I want to put new music on my iPhone and can't because iTunes refuses to work.

Do you get an error message when you try to launch iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • ITunes WILL NOT WORK AT ALL

I have a Toshiba M400 Tablet Laptop running Windows XP Tablet. I have a Motion Computing M1400 tablet. Itunes works on the M1400. The Toshiba is Brand New!!! Fully decked out. iTunes will install but crashes on startup of the app. I have followed several post threads here. I have uninstalled Hotfix KB908531 against my better judgement to find the root cause of this. No good. I have installed and uninstalled this app over 50 times in last 2 days trying every possible thing to overcome problem. Persmissions not a problem - Administrator (domain and local), used windows install cleaner to remove all traces of itunes. Ihave tried the installation after MSCONFIG sets to no loaded startup apps, no non MS apps running, no AV running, no firewalls, no antispam. NO GOOD!!! Never see the QT install and it is not listed in Add Remove Progs. I have ripped throught he registry (MCSE/SERVER + certs) to clean the registry of any and all apple, itunes, quicktime instances and keys still no good. I report the crashes everytime I am prompted. I am very upset at this point as I have never had a program just refuse to work these days anyway. This is the most stubborn problem I have encountered. I am not an itunes tech, I really do not know much about the program, but using my overall general knoweledge of windows and programming, I am not able to find the breakdown here.
Is there anyone out there that can give me an answer? OEM of laptop no help! They said call apple!!!!
    In advance THANK YOU......

    hiya!
I get the itunes has encounterd a problem and needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience error, no specific error number. I do not have QT installed,
not having QT installed is what will be causing your itunes error message at the moment. let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 install.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • HT201269 My 4s wont restore from the backup on my pc, its asking for a password and my itunes password wont work .... I have not submitted any others ?? please help!

I have today replaced my 4s with a new one - having backed up my old one to itunes only this afternoon. It refuses to restore from backup and is asking me for a password... my itunes password isnt working, and yet i have not entered any others.. does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi..
It's asking for your admin password, not your Apple ID and password.
If you can't remember the password ..
Your new Mac is running v10.7 Lion so  there are two ways to reset  the admin password.
Here > Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password
or here >  OS X Lion: Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password

  • ITunes refuses to open... and I've tried everything.

Until tonight, iTunes had been functioning normally... and now it simply will not open, no matter what I do.
I've spent the past two hours going through every possible solution on both of the following pages:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
...and it has had absolutely no effect. Trying to open iTunes produces nothing more than a momentary hourglass. The process opens in the task manager, but nothing else happens. Is there something somewhere that I may have missed that may still be corrupted? I've honestly deleted absolutely everything Apple off my computer, including all application data from all users and disabled all other services and start-up processes and installed from a clean reboot, and it still refuses to work.

Just to be clear where you are, when you try to start iTunes, do you see the hour glass briefly, then nothing.
If you open the task manager after attempting to open iTunes, can you see iTunes.exe running on the processes tab?
Which service pack are you on for XP and did you make any changes to your system before the problem started.
Which version of iTunes are you on and did the problem start after an upgrade or out of the blue?
Anyway assuming you have silent launch failure with persistent iTunes in the task manager, the problem is most commonly due to a problem with cryptographic services.
If it occurred out of the blue with no prior changes to your system, you need to do a full scan for malware with up to date definitions. Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and prevent a solution.
So ... before starting troubleshooting, you need to be certain your system is clean. You can get a second opinion from the Kaspersky free scan - it is good at finding things but doesn't remove them.
    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Also a quick thing to check is your smart card service, which iTunes needs to start.
    To check, go to:
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc.
Look for the smart card service, check that is present and not set to disabled. Mine is set to manual.
I will give you the rest of it after you have checked for malware.

  • ITunes refuses to transfer apps from iPhone 4

iTunes refuses to transfer my apps from my iPhone 4 to the comp. It transfered the songs no problem but whenever i try to transfer the apps it goes though this "speed" transfer process. It takes like 30 sec or less to "transfer" all my apps into my itunes. Ive tried various options like changing out cords and using different ports. I deleted the idevice info in the program data folder etc, etc. Yet nothing works. Im using Win 7 and iOS 4.3.5.
please help! id like to have my apps actually in my itunes.

welp i got a new error from itunes...
itunes could not connect to the iphone because an invalid response was received from the device. oh joy.
i also keep getting this now...
an iphone has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. please disconnect and reconnect the iphone then try again.
yepp ive done this numberous of times and these responses keep coming up now.

  • Itunes refuses to import one file

Itunes refuses to import one file. This file is unprotected, mp3 audio file of 72.3MG which happens to be a 'teach youself spanish' CD downloaded from Win/MX. As far as I can see thsi file does not differ from other files which itunes lets me import, apart perhaps from its length (it is over two hours long). itunes produces no message to explain why it will not import the file and so i am perplexed...

    hi Jack!
hmmmmm. just checking. can WMP import and play this file? if so, can you convert it to another file format in WMP, like AIFF? if so, will itunes accept the file when it is in that format?
(a clunky workaround ... even if it works)

  • Itunes refuses to accept alternative library location

So here we are - Mountain Lion.  Still lumbered with iTunes - still refuses to work correctly.
Refuses to move my library to my NAS - has just duplicated all my files on my iMac's HD - useless.
It is for me to decide were my files reside - not iTunes!
When will Apple accept that this is a horrendous piece of software and sort it out?
Apple users are forced to endure this.
Shame on you.   The most advanced OS - really??

Just wait. It also refuses to allow you to change data on some files now.
The other thing is that the preferences folder actually says 'Copy to the library folder' not MOVE to the library folder. So, when you change locations, it COPIES it. Once all of it is copied, you can go to your iTunes folder and delete the files either individually, by folder, or by deleting the entire iTunes media folder.
As an FYI, be careful NOT to delete the APPS folder. Haven't checked the Mac, but I think it keeps the apps on the main HD regardless of where the music is stored. At least on the PC, it does.

  • ITunes refuses to 'see' external drive

All my tunes are on an external LaCie 120GB mobile HDD as they have been for a couple of years and all has worked well. Now for some reason iTunes refuses to 'see' the iTunes Folder on this drive it doesn't even seem to see the drive at all. The drive is fine as I can double click a tune from it from the finder and it plays it in iTunes ok.
iTunes also recognises an interacts properly with my wife's iPod.
I have checked and rechecked that the iTunes/Prefs/advanced/iTunes music folder location is set to the HDD folder.
Is this a problem with the latest iTunes version?

I have stopped, started, uninstalled, reinstalled, used msconfig to stop all other processes, changed drive letter, shut down, reboot, restart with IPot connected, restart with IPot disconnected... nothing on the Apple page has been of any help. Could it be something to do with low power USB v/s high power USB? All thought I don't buy that either. My wife has an IBM T42 and it works no problems, mine IBM T43, does not work. Other USB devises do work on my T43??? Hense the point of this thread.

  • ITunes refuses to recognize current iPod software

    Hi all,
I had upgraded to the latest version of iTunes (7.1), but after a few weeks, it stopped loading completely. Instead, it began freezing 3/4 way through updating the library. I assume that during the upgrade, the iPod firmware was also upgraded.
I wasn't able to work my way around it, so I uninstalled ver. 7 and re-installed ver 6. Since then, iTunes opens perfectly (a relief).
Problem: iTunes refuses to recognize my iPod now, saying:
"The iPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 7.0 or later."
Obviously, I was having trouble with 7.1 so that's not an option I'd like to explore. Suggestions would be appreciated.
    BL

i have a 3rd generation ipod and my girlfriend has a 2G nano, both of which stopped being recognized by itunes immediately after i installed itunes 7.0.2 (shocking). After some research and playing around i did find a workaround. Plug your ipod in and wait for "Do Not Disconnect". Right click on My Computer and select manage. On the left hand side towards the bottom select Disk Management. Next you should see the name of your ipod in the middle section, right click on it and select Change Drive Letter and Path. Next Click the Add button and choose a drive letter not being used by your computer (Q usually is available) and press OK. Close the Computer Management window and open itunes, you should see you ipod and should be able to update it.
As far as I can tell, you have to do this each time you plug you ipod in, but it does work.
    Good Luck!
