ITunes registering too many clicks! Why?

When I have the MiniPlayer view going, set to stay above all other windows, I will sometimes try to change the song or pause the track while working in some other program. When I do that, iTunes acts as if I have clicked whichever button I'm on several times, either skipping through multiple songs or, if I'm trying to pause a track, pausing it and then playing it again as though I had clicked twice. It's very annoying, and it's getting to the point where I'm considering finding another media player in place of iTunes.
What can I do to remedy this?

I have another clue to this behaviour, though I still can't completely fix it.
My slide master in PowerPoint has a text box with bulleted text. It goes to five levels (I don't use five, but this is what has been formatted). When I create a slide with other objects on it, delete the text box, and then import it into Captivate, I need to click six times to advance to the next slide (five clicks plus my click box).
When I go back to the slide master in PowerPoint and then delete two levels of bulleted text, then update my Captivate project, I only need to click four times (three clicks plus my click box).
It seems that when I delete the text box from the slide Captivate is going back to the slide master for details. If I leave the text box on the slide but leave it empty, then things work almost correctly, except I still require an extra click to continue past this otherwise invisible text box.
I have fixed this by leaving the text box in PowerPoint, but leaving it empty, as required. I then add my image, etc. into the slide and import it into Captivate. I then add a click box to continue and make sure that it is visible from the very start of the timeline, pauses the slide until the user clicks, and is only visible for a short time (until the end of the slide). This seems to work, although I would love to know how to get rid of this other behaviour (I will try creating an empty slide in the slide master).

  • HT1904 correct itunes re: too many http hits

    now that my apple account is updated, itunes hit my credit card today for the movie rental i attempted to rent on 2/4, however won't download it due to "too many http hits". where do i go to fix this issue?

    You could try deleting the system preferences .plist file in your "bad" user account. It's likely a pref file in that user account. I thought iTunes plist was the likely culprit, but apparently not.
    During all of this, have you tried restarting the computer and/or logging out and logging back in to the user account?
    Worst case scenario, you could move your iTunes Music Folder into the Shared folder under Users and access it from the other user account.....Possibly a workaround you could live with until someone comes up with a better solution?

  • Effect controls... Too many clicks!

    This one's relatively minor: But once you click on a clip to launch in in the viewer, say to change its position or scale, you always have to click again on the little triangles to expand the MOTION parameters in order to edit them. Why not have them default to being open to begin with? What do we gain from having all those editable parameters hidden in their little sections?
    Again, its a minor quibble, but once you have to do it 100 times in a row in a project it gets annoying very fast.
    Maybe there's a way to do this that I missed?
    Thanks
    Fede

    How is Premiere Pro supposed to know which effects you want to work on?  Just because you want to make changes to Motion parameters doesn't mean every editor does.  And if PP opens them all by default, we end up with the opposite problem, having to close some effects so we can easily see the one we do want to adjust.
    I think the current operation really is the best overall, even if it's a bit of a pain for your specific situation.

  • Too many clicks required to close a window

    When I click to close a window, too often a menu pops up instead. What am I doing wrong?

    The buttons that were giving me a problem were close X; hide X. It didn't seem to matter whether I clicked on the close, hide or X a menu would pop up with a list of items: Open link in New Window, etc down to Copy Image.
    Now it seems to be working, or my fingers are working! Thanks for the great tip though in terms of closing the main windows and applications!

  • ITunes is too big, but why?

    Why is the new iTunes nearly 80MB, surely it doesn't have to be that big?

    When you install iTunes on a Windows system, it's installing a lot more than just the iTunes application. It's also installing QuickTime, the "engine" that provides all the media playback, and (optionally) Apple Software Update and perhaps Safari. So it takes a bit to get all that installed and all the appropriate registry entries set. Installing Linux basically is just a file copy process - no Windows component registration and registry entries to make - so it quite possibly could be quicker.

  • Pause Backup of itunes library, too many DVDs for one sitting?

    The backup of my itunes library will take 8 DVDs. Is there a way to pause it, so that I don't have to do it in one sitting? Or choose to do a partial backup now, and then continue later? What would happen if I only had time to do 2 DVDs today, could I come back later and continue, or would I have to start all over again?
    Thank you for your help.

    Thank you very much for your reply. I am using "Backup" in applications. I am not sure if this is a feature of my .mac account or if it came with my computer.
    Is using iTunes to backup better? I have not seen a feature in Backup to choose to backup portions of my library, but you are saying that backing up in iTunes, has this feature?
    Thanks again.

  • Is it just me or is iTunes having too many problems?

    I am getting more and more problems with iTunes lately.
    To sum it up:
    - 50 errors when downloading videos
    - 8008 errors when downloading videos
    - video downloads without errors, but starting from scratch a few times before finally finishing the whole download
    - 1403 error when downloading the iOS upgrade
    What is happening here? When I email Apple I get the standard checkbox reply, but I already tried everything they suggest: a new user account, removing temp downloads, disabling the firewall, verifying/repairing permissions; you name it. I am not using web accelerators, don't have anti-virus stuff installed. I am actually out of clues, except that it all is related to iTunes and that it is really starting to annoy me.
    Anyone else noticing these download hiccups lately?
    Cheers,
    Marinka

    It started with the – 50 errors with me (multiple iTunes stores, different AppleIDs, different user accounts) and then after a while there's the –8008 error, so I deleted all the temp downloads and started over, but the same thing happened. The only way I could download was to stop the download manually after 25MB or so and then resume. That takes a long time with season passes I tell ya!
    And now this evening I had to update 4 iPads 2 to iOS 5.0.1 (from 4.3.3) for work and it gave me the 1403 error. I actually read quite a few posts with the same error here. I'll try on a different Mac tomorrow, but even if that works that is clearly not a solution.
    I've been working with Macs for over 20 years now and I think this is actually the first time that something this annoying is happening. So well done Apple for the last 20 years, but now please solve this!

  • ITunes reinstalled too many times

    I run the IT dept for a school. Our students now have Toshiba tablet computers (which they own). Most have now installed and are actively using iTunes. Our problem is that when a tablet comes in for a repair that requires a new hard drive or even just a new image there's absolutely no way we can deauthorize the student's iTunes before proceeding. Since they're only allowed 5 installations we've run into problems when this has been exceeded. Apple does allow a once per year deauthorization of all computers but this would affect any other computers using the tunes (parent, home pc, etc). Has anyone else encountered this in a school or corporate setting?

    I upgraded itunes twice and it still wont upgrade, now i cant buy games, what should i do?

  • Can't connect to iTunes  "too many HTTP redirects" ? Help?

    Help.  cannot connect to iTunes. message "too many HTTP redirects"

    HI Krinaformwa,
    There may be many reasons for this problem. For instance, you may have an internet connection issues or Apple servers may be having problems. However you may also be victim of a known bug. To resolve this bug,  simply tap Settings>General>Date and Time. Set the date ahead to some time in the future. Then try to connect iTunes or App Store again.

  • What do I do when iTunes App Store says too many http redirects when I click on the data categories or top 25 tabs

    I updated my iOS and downloaded some apps and then when I click on catagories or top 25 in the App Store it says too many http redirects.

    Clean the cookies and data, and also your history going on Settings>Safari.

  • Sync fails in iTunes 9.0 & 9.01: "too many files open" and error -6999

    I've been trying to synch my iPod (Touch, g1) for the last couple weeks but have been getting errors ever since going to iTunes 9.0.
    First it blew my library and now says "Previous iTunes Libraries" at the top. Can live with that (after going through and reloading about 2/3s of the album artwork).
    But now am getting two errors every time I try to sync. One is, "Attempting to copy to the disk '[my iPod's name]' failed. There are too many files open currently."
    Elsewhere I saw it suggested for this error that I turn off sharing, but, alas, sharing isn't turned on.
    The second error message is, "The iPod '[my iPod's name]' cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-6999)." and I can't find any mention by Apple about what to do about this.
    HELP. Please.

    There has been some advice to turn off "sharing" to stop getting the "too many files open" error message, but, as noted in my question, sharing was already turned off in the iTunes Preferences.
    But, it turns out, of course, that there is another kind of sharing in the 9.x iTunes -- the one for sharing libraries on your local network. Don't know why they are different because the function seems the same, but I noticed that there was still an icon for "home sharing" or "house sharing" (little picture of a house) on the library/playlist list in iTunes.
    I right clicked on the house icon and found another checkbox switch there. I turned that one off too (Why Apple?) and, voila, the "too many files" error has (apparently) gone away.
    Hope this helps some others out there.
    Apparently you have to turn off sharing in two different places. (Again; why is that, Apple?)

  • I have itunes directory on an external hard drive and want to direct a new installation of itunes on windows 8 to use it. I tried holding down ctrl and clicking itunes and after many tries got it to work one time. When I went back in later it had reverted

    I have itunes directory on an external hard drive and want to direct a new installation of itunes on windows 8 to use it. I tried holding down ctrl and clicking itunes and after many tries got it to work one time. When I went back in later it had reverted back to a blank version of itunes and I cant get ctrl to work again. Any other ideas?

    This is sometimes caused by a problem with the iTunesPrefs.xml file, normally found at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml. Try dragging this to the desktop and trying again.
    Alternatively the problem may be that you have McAfee AV and it is preventing iTunes from updating the same file and thus causing the problem. See Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml? for details.

  • I have been blocked from my own ITunes songs because my apple ID associated with too many devices

    I cannot access songs from my own iTunes Apple ID because it says my iPhone has been associated with too many devices.  I have to wait 90 days to access my own songs on my iPhone.  Here is what happend:
    1-Our family moved.  So, with the address change, the credit cards on all of the apple ID's would no longer work because the other users had our old address. (I have 4 users in the family).
    2-My family started calling me while I was out of town complaining that purchases were rejected.  This was because our address had changed and it no longer matched.
    3-I tried to walk them thru the process of changing the home address on the credit card, but they couldn't do it.  They assured me that they were doing it correctly and were still rejected.
    4-So, being the techie of the family, I simply logged into each of their iTunes accounts from my iPhone while I was out of town and made the address change.  While I was in their  accounts, I noticed they didn't have automatic downloads and iTunes match and stuff.  So, I changed it so it would work for them when they logged back in.
    5-I go back to log into my own account on my iphone and I cannot access my own songs on the iTunes cloud for 90 days!!!!  This is quite disappointing.
    How can I get this corrected?   I tried to reset user settings (not a erase and reset).  I figure it's not my phone, but my iTunes account thinks I'm doing something sharing-wise.
    So, in summary, when I am on my iPhone and I go to my iTunes library and click on a song (that I have paid for) with the cloud and down arrow beside it, it's rejected.  It says that I have too many apple id's associated with this device and I must wait 90 days.  It counts down each day.
    I just want access to the music I paid FOR!!

    Thank you-I will contact support.
    No, I cannot wait 90 days.
    Let me restate what I have to endure, even though I own the music and have paid for iTunes Match:
    I cannot access my purchases-zero-at all
    I have to listen to never ending McDonald's latte commercials and progressive insurance. I have now banned both of those annoying businesses and will not make purchases there.
    In summary, I have given apple my minded, and have zero to show for it.
    Ps-you get to hear the McDonald's "love hate commercial" every 2 songs on iTunes Radio.  I have substituted the words where I hate McDonald's and love when the commercial is over.

    I have a new IPhone 5c, and an old iTunes acct. I changed my password because I forgot it. I guess I tried it too many times and now my apple iTunes is disabled. How do I fix that?

    You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
    You might then need to log out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it.
    If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
    (For info you've posted in the Using iPad forum.)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
