Itunes relaunching

im not too sure how to solve this as im rather new to the mac OS. itunes keeps relaunching a few minutes after i quit the program, is there somewhere to reset the settings to default or 'reinstall' itunes? help much appreciated
Powerbook 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

The most likely cause of relaunching is an iTunes related Widget.
Disable it (them) and see if iTunes stops relaunching.
Hope this helps.

  • ITunes relaunches on its own when iPhone is plugged in?!

    Hi guys,
This "issue" never happened before, but since I upgraded iOS to version 7 on my iPhone 4 (GSM), iTunes (also recently and manually updated to the latest version) will restart after I close it when my phone is plugged in in USB. Basically, I back up / sync my iPhone, then close iTunes. About thirty seconds later, iTunes restarts on its own, and I have to close it again to keep it that way, until the next restart.
At first, I thought it had to do with a loose or shaky USB slot, but I let my Mac sit on a flat surface, with the iPhone by its side, and every time I close iTunes, it restarts on its own, no matter what. Repairing permissions didn't help.
This is driving me nuts, all the more so since I've checked in iTunes preferences, and couldn't find any mention of a "keep alive" iTunes functionality.
I should add that this problem also happens when syncing via Wifi, but not as regularly as in USB mode.
Ideas, anyone? Should I check or uncheck something on the iPhone?

Well, sure enough, there it was, and boy, it didn't come alone...
Here's what's the latest entry shows (lots of mention of LDAP. That's Bonjour by another name, right?):

What do you guys make of it? I tracked all mentions of my little own private self in all this, but I may have missed something. Please be discreet!

  • ITunes relaunches itself after closing (Windows 7)

Yesterday was all OK, but today after I closed iTunes is restarted itself. Nothing was changed with the system since yesterday. I've found a couple of topics with the same problem, but they're both about MacOS. I have this problem on Windows 7.

I'm going to ask the hosts to move this to the windows part of the iTunes part of this forum. YOu'll stand a better chance to get an answer there than you will here.

  • ITunes relaunches upon shutdown

This only happens now and again, but it cancels out the shutdown process meaning my computer is still on when I get back into work the following day. Any ideas? I can just watch it reopen right before my eyes. I'd love to get to the bottom of it.
FYI its also a startup item, as my library is huge and broadcasted over our intranet for music sharing.

Yes, I have sharing turned on, but this happens even after I have disconnected shared users. I'll try the preference thing though - sometimes this happens too. Strange.

  • I cannot switch gmail account users in iTunes

I am trying to sync my wife's iphone with her gmail account but it keeps pulling contacts from my gmail account instead.
I first configured itunes to use my gmail account for my iphone some months ago.  I keep my iphone in sync with my gmail account.
This morning I plug in my wife's new iphone, change the contacts sync account to her gmail account, using her password, and then sync the device.  Her phone is now populated with my gmail contacts, not hers.  I've checked her gmail contacts via the web and they are not the same as what is in my account.
I turned off contact syncing, selected the option to remove contacts, resync'ed, then her phone had no contacts - this was the correct and expected behaviour.
I shutdown iTunes, relaunched, checked the contacts sync option again, verified that the gmail account was set to her user id and password, re-sync'ed and it still downloaded the contacts from my gmail account.
Besides being extremely frustrating that I cannot manage two iPhones with two different gmail accounts, this seems like a huge security hole if iTunes is secretly caching my gmail account credentials.

Try going to www.appleid.apple.com on your Mac/PC and resetting your password.

  • Itunes 7.4.1.2 upgrade problem

I let iTunes auto upgrade to 7.4.1.2 and it went through the process and rebooted the PC. However, when iTunes relaunched is was blank, no messages just no data. All of the original library, playlists, podcasts etc are missing and not displayed. The files are still on the PC so how do I get all this back?

    Does this article help?

  • ITunes Media folder external drive location not found at restart

How can I force iTunes to remember where my iTunes Media folder is located? I have followed the Apple iTunes Media library move instructions to the letter and the new folder location is correctly shown in the iTunes/Preferences/Advanced tab. If I close and reopen iTunes it finds the folder OK however when the laptop is shutdown it appears to forget. After a laptop restart and iTunes relaunch I get a media location failure warning and I have to manually direct it to where the media folder is every time, very annoying. The media library is actually located on an Apple Time Capsule which Time Machine happliy finds/connects to every time it backs up but for some reason iTunes does not. Any advice/tips much appreciated.

    Hi Chris
I have now experimented a little more and discovered that although Time Capsule (TC) is showing in Finder as a Shared Drive at laptop startup (and showing a status of a connected user, me) it is not actually 'mounted' in the true sense of the word i.e. the unmount/eject symbol is not showing next to it nor either of the drives connected to the TC. By clicking on either of the 2 drives (i.e. the TC 'Data' disk or the TC USB-connected drive) the status changes to show the dismount symbol on both the selected drive and the TC in the Finder side bar. Launching iTunes after this intervention works every time as per your advice. Not the Apple 'it just works' that I have come to expect and appreciate but at least I now understand how to make it work reliably..........many thanks and I hope Apple just makes it work sometine in the future

  • Keep getting "itunes cannot read the contents of the iPad" message when connecting my iPad 2 to Windows XP

    Hi all,
I have an iPad 2 that I purchased in late 2011. I have a Windows XP PC. Of late, I have not been able to connect my iPad 2 to iTunes on my Windows XP (Service Pack 3) desktop. I keep getting the popular error "itunes cannot read the contents of the iPad. .... restore factory settings" message. I have tried re-installing latest iTunes altogether after fully uninstalling and removing registry entries. But it still keeps giving the same message. I have tried all the steps given here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 , except checking with a different USB cable. My cable however works well while charging. My system however seems to detect the iPad as camera. I desperately need some help to fix this.
    Thanks,
    Paddy

Worked for an iPad 4 (Retina) running iOS 7.0.3. connected to a Mac (Mavericks, iTunes 11.1.2). Although the file system is a bit different than what is shown on the video, the basic same steps can be carried out: download iFunbox (for Mac, obviously), go into "Raw file system", then "iTunes_Control" (you may want to switch to list view to see the complete name), then iTunes. There there was no iTunesDB file but I deleted iTunesCDB (was 0kB, expect that might have been the problem) and iTunesControl (0kB as well). Also deleted the Music folder in the previous directory.
After that I disconnected the iPad from iTunes, quit iTunes, relaunched, and it started sync'ing :-)
Note that now it's telling me that it cannot sync because an additional 10GB is required! Not sure what the problem is because the bar at the bottom of the iTunes window says it still has another 4GB available. I'm expecting there's a problem with how the size of the music is calculated (perhaps because I also sync Genius playlists and mixes), so I disabled music sync'ing for now so it can complete it once. Then I'll hand-pick the music again and hope it works!

  • ITunes 9 - Getting Started video won't play

iTunes 9 installation was smoothly and quickly, however:
While the "Welcome to iTunes" startup window opens properly but"Getting Started with iTunes 9" movie won't fully load or play.
This first tutorial movie on the "Welcome" list only plays the first couple of minutes and stops. Close Window and/or Quit/Restart iTunes relaunches "Welcome" and "Getting Started" but the movie still won't play.
I also have the latest version of QuickTime (v7.6.4, downloaded this morning) installed under Mac OS 10.5.8.

Immediately after installing iTunes 9.0 and Opening iTunes, the 'Getting Started' folder popped up in front of the iTunes window. I wanted to 'look around' at iTunes first, so Closed the Getting Started window. Now that I'm ready to watch those videos, I can no longer FIND that folder or the videos. Anyone know what happens to them once they've been Closed? Thanks...

  • Another Apple TV not showing up in iTunes...

Ok, this is the config: Apple tv Software 1.1, iMac Intel 07/2007 with OS X 10.5.1, iTunes 7.6. All of a sudden the Apple tv did not show up in iTunes anymore (after working perfectly before). I have another MacBook and a Windows Vista System, both have no connection problems with the atv.
The atv can be pinged from the iMac, who does not show it in iTunes, without lag or packet loss. There is no firewall enabled. The atv connects perfectly to the internet and to the other computers (MacBook and Vista PC) via WLAN.
I did anything described on the support page to try to resolve the problem. I resetted the atv, I re-installed itunes... i upgraded to Leopard (after the problem showed up)... not resolving this issue.
    Any clues?

My ATV mysteriously disappeared from iTunes today as well. I'd been using it all weekend to play music. Today I come home form work and it has disappeared from iTunes.
I restarted everything including the ATV. It will show up in iTunes at first but then I get a message that I might have a firewall enabled because iTunes can't communicate with the ATV. It gives me port umber to stop blocking. Then the ATV disappears again.
No firewalls turned on (Leopards Firewall is useless anyway since you can't specify numbered ports to allow communication through.) Nothing has changed in my setup.
I tired linking the ATV to my Macbook Pro Core Duo (G networking) and it kind of works. I got it to start syncing files but the progress bar in iTunes doesn't update. It stays stuck on one file. But the ATV is copying the files because after I lost patience I canceled the sync and found that some of the media had been copied over. When I tried to sync again I got the same error about a possible firewall blocking the port. After a few iTunes relaunches I got ATV to show up in iTunes again and it resumed trying to copy files over. Again the progress bar just stuck on one song.
The only thing I can think of is some kind of major interference that is nearby and out of my control. The ATV shows full strength in the Wifi Signal. It can connect to the internet and YouTube. But its iTunes connection is just plain flaky. I've switched on interface robustness in the AirPort base station. Still nothing.
Sorry I can't be of any help. Maybe more squeaky wheels get grease faster.
I'm so glad this thing broke right before "Take 2"

  • I think some tracks on my iTunes library have shortened has anyone experience of this and  remedy

I am sure that a few album tracks on my iTunes library have shortened their original play length -has anyone experienced or heard of this happening before ?if so what is the remedy if any. All  tracks were originally loaded from genuine original CDs

    Hi,
You will need to keep the number of the tracks below 25K. One option is to delete tacks and remove from your library.
If you wish to keep the files in your itunes library, you can manage the itunes match library by creating a second blank library.
You create a second library by holding shift key and choose create new library from pop up box. The name of library usually defaults to itunes1 ( you can rename if you wish). The library will be completely blank until you sign into the iTunes Store and activate match. You will be asked to add this computer. Do so. Once match process is completed you will now see all music that has been matched, uploaded or purchased. Each track will have download icon and you will be able to stream music.
If you delete the track you will get a message telling that it has been deleted from the cloud and any associated devices that you use for streaming but it is important to note that the track has not been deleted from your hard drive.
To verify this log out of iTunes, relaunch holding option key and select original library from pop up. You library will be as before  I.e total number in your library has not changed.
You should have iCloud status column added to song view - this tells you if tracks have been matched, uploaded, purchased, duplicate, ineligible and more importantly "removed". The tracks deleted from second library will have iCloud status as removed. Match will ignore this in future scans. Track is still available on your hard drive.
Doing this will enable you to keep all you music in your itunes library on your computer. Whilst the "removed" tracks will be on your computer, they will not be available on ipad.

  • Nano not being seen in Itunes

    Hi there,
Hoping someone can help me with this before I finally give in and send this nano in.
I have a 4gig nano which I am connecting to windows. I have the latest itunes and the latest update to my nano.
    Here's what's happening:
    - When the nano connects to the computer, itunes launches, but the ipod doesn't show up in itunes.
    - the nano shows under windows explorer
    - the nano can be updated by the update software
    I've tried the following:
    - Reinstalling itunes
    - Reinstalling the ipod service
    - Resetting the ipod
    - Reformating the nano via windows explorer
    And here's the kicker...
I am able to connect another ipod nano with exactly the same software and specs (its just white instead of black) to the PC and have it work fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

My nano was doing this as well. I would connect it, itunes would launch, but the ipod was not showing up in the source list.
I resolved the issue by closing itunes the first time when it auto launched, resetting the ipod while connected to the computer, and letting itunes relaunch. usually the ipod was seen once itunes relaunched. If not I would shut itunes, reset the ipod again, and ipod would show under source list once it came back up.

  • ITunes won't play through 2nd gen AE 802.11n

Just purchased Logitech Z323 speakers.  Plugged correct wire into Airport Express 802.11n (2nd gen).  Unable to play iTunes through the Logitech speakers plugged into the AE.  Have searched the Discussions and googled high and low and can't get any traction.  Asking for anyone's help, thank you!  :-)

Finally found the Apple article on this.  Had not seen the info to go into Airport Utility, select the AX, click Edit, select AirPlay tab.   Enter an AirPlay Speakers password, confirm the password.   I then quit iTunes, relaunched iTunes.
A new icon appeared at the top-left-middle of iTunes window.  It looks like an envelope with an up-arrow within the envelope.  Here is where you can select the AirPlay speakers attached to your AX as the speakers you wish to play music through.
I then went to my iPhone 4S, opened Music and began to play a song.  At the bottom of the iPhone screen, to the right of the volume control slidebar, is the same envelope-with-up-arrow icon that appears now in iTunes on my laptop.  Select the envelope-arrow, and select the Airplay Speakers.   That allows playing music from iPhone through the speakers attached to the Airport Express.

  • ITunes/iBook; purchasing/update issues

I'm trying to buy a book from store.  All my buying options are ghosted and it says I need certain updates/device needs certain criteria to purchase (doesn't matter the book). I have all updates/criteria on all my devices. I also cannot access the bookstore from my library; I must search for the book in iTunes and a pop up window takes me to the bookstore.

    You could try this:
Open iTunes, select Purchased in the side bar, then at the bottom of side bar there is a gear. Select that and check for downloads. You might need to download them again. If that doesn't work:
Sign out of the store, go to iTunes Preferences, Advanced, click "Reset Caches" and "Reset Warnings". Quit iTunes, relaunch, sign back in.
In iBooks tap on Store at the top of the menu and sign out of that then sign in.
On you iPad, in settings > App store sign out of the account, do a full restart of the device (press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears) and then sign back in.

  • ITunes Store (Rentals) only works if in UK location, but I live in USA

I think my subject sums it up, the Itunes store on my 2nd Gen. Apple TV 5.0 wont let me in the Itunes Store if I set it to USA (Where I live), it only works when I set it to the UK, just a little annoying, any thoughts, I already restarted it?
    Troy

Try logging completely out of your iTunes Store account (so that the window at upper-right says "sign in"), then quit iTunes, relaunch, make sure that the UK store is selected on the main page, and sign back into your iTunes Store account.
    Hope that helps.
