ITunes reopens after I close it

Within the past several months (at least three), every other time I attempt to close iTunes, it shuts down without problem and then immediately restarts itself without prompting. The cycle takes place three or four times before it finally actually closes.
This problem occurred with 8 and 9. I was hoping that 9 would fix the problem, but it does not. No settings on my computer or in iTunes itself have been changed. Can anyone tell me why it keeps doing this? It's VERY annoying.

This is very annoying. I have removed ALL widgets, ALL startup items, ALL scripts in iTunes, ALL plug ins (only one in root library found), reinstalled iTunes, restored and reset iPhone 3Gs, repaired permissions, and run Disk Warrior, and disabled all references to iPhones or iTunes helper apps in my Activity Monitor, disabled auto synch and autolaunch of iPhone, and STILL have immediate restart of iTunes every time I close it down AFTER docking and synching with iPHone, and only since updates of latest iTunes and iPhone software. Anyone else have this problem? It can't be good to have to hard power down to get out of iTunes endless loops!

  • Firefox will not connect to another web site and it will not reopen after I close it.

I have removed Firefox and reinstalled it. I have tried to disable addons but it still will not open unless I reboot my computer. If this problem cannot be fixed easly, I will have to remove Firefox for good. When it is open, it will not connect to any URL I enter. When I close it it will not reopen and I get a message that says I have to restart Windows. This bug needs to be fixed. It worked one day and the next day it would not work.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Itunes reopens after quit

Hello, brand new on the forum/discussions. It is really annoying whenever I quit iTunes, it automatically opens itself again. I then wait, quit it again and then goes away. Not really demanding answers, but wanted to let the main guys know about this and to see if anyone had any suggestions.
    Thanks
    -bpsmith

The "main guys" aren't likely to see it here. I can tell you that this issue is usually caused by a third-party app or widget that is attempting to talk to iTunes. iWow is one of the usual suspects. Connected speakers can also cause it.

  • How can I troubleshoot itunes restart after I close it?

    Hi,
I have searched using google and also searched these forums - I can see thousands apon thousands of hits in google on this same problem however the causes in some posts that I've read through are different and there is no information available on how to troubleshoot step by step.
I'm surprised though I can't find one decent hit in the apple support forums in itunes for windows???
If there is a document somewhere that someone knows of can you please send me the link?
This problem has been bugging me for at least 2 or more years and have looked at trying to resolve it a few times but always end up on giving up...
If only apple can fix this problem or supply some troubleshooting steps for windows would be great!
    thanks in advance
    Jim

Of course it is empty... what did you seriously expect?
Installing iTunes has never caused media to magically appear on a computer.
The media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • Itunes keeps reopens by itself after i close it on xp

Has anyone out there been able to figure out why and how to stop itunes from reopening itself after you close it on windows XP. This is an xp ? so please don't post mac os answers. From what I read and heard from support, no-one at apple knows why this is happening. I used itunes to legaly buy and download music. I do own an ipod and therefore don't connect one to my computer. I have a feeling it has to do with the ipodservice and or the itunes helper service that seem to ignore the fact that I have disabled them in services.msc. But nothing works. I will listen to some music via itunes, download some from the store, etc.. When I am done I will try file/exit, or closing via the x in the top right corner. Then suddenly the software reopens... I dont want to have to stop using itunes, but I can not get a fix for this I may just have to switch over to rhapsody via windows media player. Appkle tech support said they couldnt help me and didnt know why it works. Thats sad cause I spend a lot of money on intunes and if they dont care about me, then i can only assume they will treat me the same if I bought one of thier computers. Looks like they lose a customer here..... Any insights would much be appreciated. Links from previous post anything that might help me fix this issue that apple says too bad your a pc user.

I'm having the exact same problem in Windows Vista. It has only happened since the last update to iTunes; it didn't happen before that. It happens ever five minute or so and is making me insane. Of course, I can't delete iTunes, since that's where my iPod library resides. Somebody MUST do something about this. Can anyone help?

  • Why does iTunes 11 keep reopening after I quit?

This is moving from the bizarre to the absurd.  I recently updated to iTunes 11 on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.7.5), and now iTunes keeps reopening after I quit.  I have checked the support forum for similar issues from previous versions.  I do not have "open iTunes when device is connected" checked, I have quit using the menu, force closed the application, even killed the iTunes process through the activity monitor to no avail.  The only way I can successfully kill the process is to shut down my MacBook Pro entirely and restart.
    Has anyone else encountered this?

I want to elaborate on my orginal post.  This is a big pain in the ***, but I have found a solution that has worked and has survied though a number of tests.  Do you have Blackberry Desktop installed on your Mac?  If you do, your probably going to have a process running called RimAlbumArtDaemon.  This is some BS software by RIM that has a history of running Mac really hot (using unnessary process power for extended amounts of time).  Get rid of it by following the instructions here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3589839?start=0&tstart=0
    Delete that entire blackberry file.
This has seemes to solve the problem for me.  Let me know if this works for you.

  • ITunes opens up right after I close it for Windows 8 Enterprise Edition

As stated iTunes opens immediately after I close it. We can step around the "it's a Windows 8 problem" or "why are you using Windows 8", beucase I've had aboslutely no problems with iTunes up untill today and I haven't had any problems with Windows 8 in genernal. It took me a day to get accostumed to it and I absolutely love it. I'm in IT at a college, and I'm just needing help with this issue. So now that that's out of the way, here's whats been going on, I just tried to install iOS 7 and I plugged in my iPad 2 to install the update and it iTunes needs to update to version 11.1.1. It had been a while since I had plugged my iPad 2 in. iTunes is not booting up with Windows and I am not having problems with it loading whenever I plug a device in. It is just running on it's own whenever I close it, that is all. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi G. Thorson!
I have a couple of troubleshooting suggestions for you that may help you with this issue. This first article is written toward troubleshooting various issues in Windows installations of iTunes:
iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
If those troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to uninstall your version of iTunes on your computer and reinstall from the Apple website:

  • Why is iTunes opening randomly after i close it?

Well, the title pretty much sums it up. About 2 minutes after i close iTunes, it opens again. On its own!
    Any idea why?

Did you try repairing permissions? It has done the same thing to me but I think all I had to do is repair my permissions.

The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.
You can download a free version of an excellent scanner- Malwarebytes here:

is your ipod connected? if it is, i noticed it will reopen non stop for me. other reasons ive found for reopening are things like the dell dock or object dock. basically any program that uses itunes can make it open randomly. its pretty lame. just look at everything that uses it and eliminate them one by one till you find it. (i disconnected my printer and it worked...no i dea how that has anything to do with itunes but you know what whatever works lol)

If it is doing it while your device is plugged in, it is because it is set to automatically sync. Please go to: Preferences>Devices, and select the option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically." Also, I hate to be "that guy", but you spelt extremely wrong. Just a pro tip.

I think we might try the following document with that one, madubc:

(The theory with that procedure with installing Safari 5.0.5 is that it updates your Apple Application Support. Apple Application Support contains single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs (such as iTunes, QuickTime and Safari) so the effect of updating it is that iTunes and QuickTime program files will also be updated.)

  • App tabs not shown after browser closes and reopens

    Greetings.
I tryed to use the new App Tabs future, i pinned some tabs, but after i close the browser and reopen it, the tabs not shown.
I tryed it with only 1 tab and multiple, but it's the same.
Anyone have an answer or it's allready a bug?
    Thank you.

App tabs are only restored if you restore the session. [[Options window - General panel#w_startup]] 'Show my windows and tabs from last time' will always restore your tabs and app tabs.
Using the history menu item and then 'Restore previous session' or set about:home as your home page and it will have a button to restore your previous session. Will also work.
