ITunes Reorganized My Music to Unknown Artist / Album
Due to computer problem, had to reload Windows and iTunes, etc.
I backed up my music files first onto an external hard drive.
Problem: when iTunes was re-setup, it reorganized my music on the backup file and moved about 80% of my music in the unknown artist / unknown album folder (previously empty). The songs are now in iTunes but the only data remaining is "07 - Fire and Rain", etc.
How can I recover the data so that all of my info exists? This is literally thousands of songs.
maybe try deleting those songs and copying them back on with itunes settings changed - edit > preferences > store > automatically download missing album artwork

I had all my songs in one place in folders labeled with Artist names.
After Organizing, 1/2 my files are under unknown artist and unknown album.
In iTunes "Get Info" all these songs show Encoded With = Unknown.
The artist and album fields are blank.
In explorer properties, all these songs have artist and album names.
They also show Encoded by = iTunes v7.1.1.5
Since the Artist, Album, and Encoding info is attached to the actual song files, can I get iTunes to look at that info?
I have tried to Organize several other times but iTunes doesn't pick up the information it missed the first time.
I know I can manually spend a week imputing the artist and album info but the Encoded With field would still be incorrect.
Could it cause problems later on?
Is there a way to take the songs out of the library and bring them back in?See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy before you start. That way if you eliminate too much data you can recover the files in their current state.
Try MediaMonkey. Select a test file, then use Tools > Advanced Tag Management > Clear ID3v1 Tags or Clean ID3v2 Tags. Then try playing the track in iTunes. See which, if either, causes iTunes to see the correct data.
Assuming your library had the correct data for these tracks before you updated it another possible approach would be to temporarily connect to a recent database in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder, export metadata using my script ExportImport, then switch back to the main library and import the data.

ITunes reorganized my music files????
I'm not someone who is very proficient with iTunes (obviously)...please help! I use iTunes to copy my music from my cd collection and I store the files on a dedicated hard drive (not in the default iTunes sub of My Music). I wasn't happy with the way things were organized anytime there was more than one artist on a song. For example, I had a folder for Brad Paisley albums, but separate folders were created for any Brad Paisley cuts that were duets with a second artist. This had happened a lot and I hadn't really bothered with it until I got a new MP3 player that is not (gasp! sorry!) and ipod. That's when I became irritated because if I wanted to select play all Brad Paisley I'd be missing those songs that were duets. I had to build a playlist in order to listen to the complete album. So I spent one long tedious afternoon moving all the duet cuts (I have a lot of them) back to the folders containing the main artist and appropriate album. I deleted my iTunes Library data file and had iTunes create another one off of my newly organized hard drive of music. It took a long time. But when I checked the music library stored on my dedicated hard drive, it had reverted back to the previous organization! There's one cut that moved back into a LeAnn Rimes & Elton John folder, instead of staying with LeAnn Rimes greatest hits. Several Brad Paisley cuts are in their own folders again, instead of staying with their album. I have probabaly half a dozen albums that are duet albums -- now each cut on each of these albums shows up as its own folder. How could this happen? Why? What can I do so that I can organize my music the way I want it to be organized?
Preferences>Advanced then uncheck "Keep music organized" (sorry if I've got the wording off a bit, not near iTunes at the moment).

I am trying to download some new music and when I search for them in Itunes they have no albums listed. Is any one else having this issue??
You should be able to check if it's a new account by viewing its purchase history e.g. via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or on your iPad you can see a cut-down version via http://reportaproblem.apple.com (which optionally allows you to contact Support if you have a problem with a purchase). If it's empty then that implies that it's a new account.
If it is a new account then you could try getting access to the old account via http://iforgot.apple.com , and if that doesn't work then try contacting Support in your country : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
If/when you get access to the account then you can update the primary email address on it to something that you do have access to (you won't be able to use an email address that is being used on another account) either via http://appleid.apple.com, the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your iPad -
How do i stop itunes from braking down my VAriuse Artists albums
Recently i downloaded a V.A. album with a diferent singers on it. Added that album to a my ituns library and insted keeping it all in the same album, Itunes decided to seprate all the songs to a different albums by the artists. Is there a way to disable that option. it not the first time Itunes does it for me. Its very frastratin.g. Plus I put analbum by the same artist and iTunes separetes in two thee. Please help me to figure this out

Itunes reorganized my music HELP
Recently my itunes decided to reorganize some of my music. The problem is that some of the bands that start with "the" as in "the expendables" and "the fugees" are now listed under T because of the "the". Whereas half of the work by the same bands are stll under E and F. Why is my itunes choosing to screw with me? I have OCD about this so I need to fix it. Thanks

iTunes doesn't just reorganize things randomly, but if you have it set to manage your music folder and something gets changed on the song file, it will reorganize things.
WMP default settings have it getting info from the internet, so maybe something like that happened. -
I recently upgraded to iTunes 10 and didn't notice any problem until I went in search of a particular song today and it was not in my iTunes 10 Library under song title, artist, album name, or genre. I was puzzled for a little while and wondered if I was mistaken about purchasing several songs from an album that was not present. So I checked the purchased music list. It's not there.
I went to the Library File, found my iTunes folder, and found the folder for the album right where it should be among other songs by the same artist which DO show up in my iTunes 10 application library and appropriate playlists.
I clicked on the song file and it opened right up and properly played in iTunes 10. I went ahead and opened each song from the entire album but now I'm wondering what else is missing from my library/playlists.
Would an iTunes-savvy Apple Community member please tell me if it would be wise to delete everything from my iTunes 10 Library and re-import the files through the Music folder? I'm nervous that I may cause myself more issues but I don't want to be missing any of my song files from my iTunes application. Make sense? Any thoughts?

and yes, both boxes are checked. The song I was looking for along with 3 other songs from the same album (also missing from iTunes application window) were found in my Music Library Folder>Artist Name Folder>Album Name Folder>Song Files. I have two other albums by that same artist and there was nothing different about the folder containing the songs NOT showing up in iTunes.
Also, for clarification, I just noticed that I had posted this in the iTunes for Windows forum. I didn't realize I had navigated to that forum and now realize I've posted in the wrong place. Shall I repost in the correct forum?
Just so you know, I've been using the iTunes application with thousands of songs since the very first version came out. My music was all properly filed and organized for listening in playlists until I installed iTunes 10.
My concern is that I have so much music that I don't know what would be missing and I don't really care to spend hours comparing what is showing up in iTunes with which files are actually stored in the iTunes folder.
Does that make sense?

Trying to copy full albums onto my iphone 5s, some (About 25%) albums have "unknown artist" where the artist should be, even though they have the correct artist names in Itunes on my MBP.
Also some albums dont have artwork on the iphone but it is there on itunes on my MBP.
Is there a fix?
(itunes 11.1.2, iphone 7.0.3)When you fix track names and album art in iTunes the information is written to an XML database and not to the file itself. You can use Doug's scripts to embed meta information to the file.

I have all my music cd's on a hard drive as wav files when I try to add them to I tunes the files get there but no album info I end up with a bunch of track 1's by unknown artists. Is there a way to transfer each album over so it shows up like a normal CD
Try posting in a more appropriate forum, as this has noting to do with itunes U - the place where University/college/museums post education material.

Music app shows unknown artist for compilation albums
I just submitted a bug report to Apple, though I can't believe I am the only person with this issue.
Since iOS7 (I am currently on iOS7.0.4) I have noticed that the music app (along with many many other issues) will no longer display the artist for compilation albums that I have. In iTunes the artist on the compilation is clearly defined but in iOS7 the Music app simply states "unknown artist".
Surely I am not the only one with this issue?I am very annoyed by this bug too, I have a lot of compilation albums and soundtracks with lots of differents artists, and my library is super organized in iTunes, with the “Album artist” field empty and the “Part of a compilation” checkbox enabled, and it shows the compilations as a “Various Artists” album.
But when I tried to download through iTunes Match in my iPhone 5C some few songs from those albums today, I found out that the music app has this bug that makes almost all of the compilation albums appear within this “UNKNOWN ARTIST” category under the artists tab.
It is very annoying and I hope Apple fixes this, cuz it is driving me crazy. -
(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly. Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them. Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view. I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes. My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.

I downloaded latest version of iTunes to my computer today and now some of my music - a lot - is showing up in grey after syncing to my iPhone 5 and I cannot open it. All music is from cd's purchased and before download was accessible. I went to SYNC and changed to AAC and reselected genres, artists, albums and synced again without success. Can anyone help? Please. I am so frustrated and have wasted all day on this. I want my music back!!!
When you upgraded, itunes should have put a copy of the itunes library database in a folder named *Previous iTunes Libraries* . If you upgraded itunes today it will show as
iTunes Library 2010-02-28.itl

my itunes in "shuffle" in between musics of a same artist. albums dont respect order - every thing is ordered alphabetically. what to do ?

I reorganised my music organisation totally in iTunes on my Mac (Lion). iTunes does not sync this new artist organisation to the iPod and many albums are divided over several artists. How can I change this?
I've called the Apple helpline. The only way to organise music on the iPod classic, is to use playlists. They themselves can be organised in playlist folders.

The actual directory on my hard drive was manually organized. After installing iTunes where I would have had a directory called for example; e:/music/blues/Albert King/album name etc... Its reorganized into songs and folders all over the e drive bearing no resemblance to the file structure I had set-up. Instead of opening the drive to find about 20 genre directories I now have about, oh, several thousand small directories.
Luckily I have a complete back-up on another drive. I'd like to fix this one and put it back the way it was. I prefer winamp and its easier the way I had it.

Although I can share Movies and Music using the Import button the "display only items not in my list" button only functions with the music list. Is there a way of getting the button to function when importing movies? Thanks
