Itunes repeats artist in song name - odd and aggravating

when i import mp3s into my library, on about half of what i put in, the artist name is repeated in the song name slot and if i put the songs straight to my ipod, then the same thing is on there, so what i am left with is a track list where all i can see really is the artist name as the name of all the songs...
the strange thing, is that when i play the song in itunes, or even just right click, and select get info, the artist name disappears and the track is named correctly, just for that track....
anyone even understand what i am saying here? i imagine there is some easy fix, im just not getting it
any help is greatly appreciated

I figured I was not quite clear enough. I understand that the problem is strange and maybe not believable or something like that. I am hoping someone else has had the same problem, but I couldn't find it by searching these forums.
What i get is this:
Title: The Beatles - I Want to Hold Your Hand
Artist: The Beatles
So when that song is put on to my ipod on the song title line, I have the scroll of "The Beatles - I Want to Hold Your Hand" and when I view the tracklist of an album on my ipod, I usually can't even see the song name because each song name starts with "The Beatles - "
understand now why that is not good now?
I understand completely how to use itunes. When I right click on the song in itues and click get info, seemingly magically, the song title corrects it self, the artist name disappears and is left with just "I Want to Hold Your Hand."
So, when I put 100 albums into my ipod, if I want, i can go through each song, and click on get info, which removes the Artist name from the song title field.
But this is a huge pain in the ***.
my ipod is a 2nd gen, I have been using itunes with it since then, this problem only started about 6 months ago with one of the updates i think.
any ideas?

Right click the filename that won't download and selsct 'Get Info'. Look at the file path, does it have a //?// in it? That is a problem with Amazon downloads that prevent iTunes from finding the file. Use 'Add Folder' to add the album to your library and try syncing it again

Song is in light grey font, not black.  The song (let's call it track 3) will play when selected, but when playing the album, it skips from track 2 to track 4.  Bought album on iTunes.

If you right mouse click on the greyed out song and select Check Selection from the bottom of the list all will be well. iTunes does not play unchecked songs

  • Feature Request:  iTunes to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields

This is a feature request that i would like to see in a future release of iTunes. The option to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields together. This would be a very valuable option when surfing your iTunes Library thru your iPod, Front Row, or Apple TV.
    Let me explain:
Not everyone knows at the top of their head who sings a particular song. This is especially true when someone other than the owner of the iTunes Library is browsing through it.
Let's say that I want to browse my ENTIRE music collection all at once. The easiest way to do this, is by browsing thru the "Songs" list because it creates 1 massive list displaying ALL the songs in the library, without having to jump into different fields. The current problem with this, is, it only lists the name of the song. There are 2 problems with this philosophy. #1 - You must know who sings the songs to have any chance of making this a useful option because the artist is not displayed. #2 - It puts them in alphabetical based on the song name. Once again, not a very useful way to make this option really functional because you will have the Artists all over the map! Keeping the Artist's songs together makes it a much more feasable option.
The solution, I feel, would be to have iTunes create an "Option" that would allow users like me to make iTunes merge the "Artist" & "Name" fields together. Make it an option so that users who do not see the benefit to this, would not have to use it. By doing this, I could now surf my ENTIRE collection via the "Songs" field in a very logical approach.
For an example, let's take a song: Artist - "Def Leppard" & Song Name - "Pour Some Sugar On Me". By clicking this option, when browsing thru the "Songs" field, it would now display as: Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me. This allows me to browse my ENTIRE library while at the same time, keeping "like" songs together, and making it very easy to distinguish whether or not it is a song I want to select. By knowing that Def Leppard is a Rock Artist, it helps to distinguish the song.
I work for a custom AV integration shop that has put hundreds of music servers into homes. We have been teaching our clients the benefits of this for some time now, with great feedback. The only problem presently, is it requires the users to have to re-edit every single file by putting the Artist's Name & the Song Title into the "Name" field of iTunes. Very time consuming! As well, because you also have the "Artists" name entered in the "Artist" field, you get Front Row displaying the "Artist" name twice, once in the song name, and once in the artist's field.
    Any feedback would be welcomed.
    Regards,
    Trevor

You might be able to get where you want using Chaotic Software's MediaRage. It can automate and batch tag editing, including building a Title tag that combines Artist and Title and, to possibly address you other problem, blanking the Artist tag.
MediaRage is not expensive and it is very powerful, you can even define regexs for how to parse tags.

  • ITunes/iPod nano & chinese song names [please help]

i own an iPod nano 4gb.
first question is is there a setting i can choose (either in iTunes or the iPod nano itself) to make the on-screen iPod nano text appear larger than the default? anyone that has chinese songs with chinese characters will notice that the font as compared to english text is relatively lighter (not as bold). hence, it is harder to read.
second question concerns chinese music. all my songs are chinese and the song names, artist names, album names etc are in chinese characters. those files that appear with chinese characters by default on Windows appear fine on the iPod nano as well. however, most of my songs require a program called NJStar Communicator (www.njstar.com) to display the chinese characters - those that have chinese music should know what i'm talking about. without NJStar, the names just appear as random symbols in Windows. the problem is, all of the songs that require NJStar appear on the iPod nano as symbols despite the fact that they appear as chinese characters on iTunes when NJStar is turned ON. when NJStar is turned OFF, the names are just displayed as symbols on iTunes. irregardless of whether i update my iPod nano when NJStar is on or off, the names remain as symbols on the iPod nano and i was just wondering if anyone knows how i can fix this or perhaps it's just tough cookies XD
    any information is much appreciated,
    many thanks.

first question is is there a setting i can choose
(either in iTunes or the iPod nano itself) to make
the on-screen iPod nano text appear larger than the

    No.
    however, most
of my songs require a program called NJStar
Communicator (www.njstar.com) to display the chinese
    characters -
I think NJStar uses an encoding which is not compatible with iTunes or iPod. You need to convert the ID3 tags of the songs that require NJStar to display correctly to Unicode. I have heard that ConvertZ is a program that might help do this.

  • Can anyone explain me why iTunes is just changing song names an messing up the order?

I have different songs that I would like to upload onto the phone iOS 6.1.3
So I copy the songe into a playlist in iTunes.
    Song names are
    whatever_xx-001
    whatever_xx-002
    whatever_xx-020
what does iTunes? It just changes the song names and make a complete mess with the order of the songs:
    whatever xx 1
    whatever xx 20
    whatever xx 2
My question is, if iTunes is not usable for copying numbered songs? I cannot imagine that this tool is so stupid? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you for a hint.

Now I look more carefully at your list, I see what you mean.
iTunes does have a method for Artist sorting if the Sort fields are empty (as most of mine are), but offhand, I don't know much about it to be honest. The glaring issue in the your screenshot is Ministry Of Sound.
If any of the other experienced contributors add to this thread (note the number of points they have) with better advice than I can offer, take it.
In the meantime, start with the Ministry Of Sound and check the Sort Artist field. If you highlight everything by an artist, or a complete album, and select Get Info/Sorting, you see this view:
and if you select just a single song, it's this view:
I assume, unless you tell me otherwise, that the Ministry Of Sound entries will show something in there which is causing iTunes to put them in with the entries for A. Replace it with Ministry Of Sound. If the field is blank (which it will be if there are two different entries in your selection) simply type in Ministry Of Sound. Does that make any difference?
If it does, then check your other entries to see what is causing the issue with them.
You may find the the artist "Joey Bada$$" has been set to sort by Bada$$, Joey.
This screenshot of my Artists column may explain why B.o.B is before Baauer:
If you don't like it that way, change the entry in the Sort Artist field to suit you.

  • Changing Artist/Genre/Song Name in "Get Info"

I am very maticulous about my music organization, and only maybe half the time am I able to change the Genre/Song Name/Or Artist
    anyone else have this problem?
how do I fix it ?

If iTunes won't accept changes to the tags see Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
If iTunes appears to accept your changes but the original values reappear later then the files are likely to be mp3s with multiple tags. In such cases iTunes only updates one of them and may later read back the unchanged data from the other. To fix this select the tracks in question in iTunes, right-click and use Convert > ID3 Tags > None, several times, then use Convert > ID3 Tags > ID3v2.3. You will need to reinsert any embedded artwork.

  • ITunes could not copy "Song Name" to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (-50)

Recently when I tried syching one of my playlists into my iPhone 4 (Running on 5.1) using iTunes 11.2.0.26 for Windows (Windows XP SP3), I have been having a problem with some songs I acquired recently.  It will sync all the other songs, but when it reaches the song in question, the following error message pops up:
"iTunes could not copy "Name of Song" to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (-50)"
After which, it stops synching songs altogether.
I tried TWO different USB connectors (BOTH from Apple), and the error still occurs.  When I remove the song in question, ALL songs sync normally.
I used the 'Get Info' option to see if there was something in the way the song was coded.  This info is from one of the songs that gets synched normally:
    Kind:                  MPEG Audio file
    Size:                  11 MB
    Bit Rate:            256 kbps
    Sample Rate:     44.100 kHz

    Channels:          Stereo
    ID3 Tag:            v2.3
    Encoded with:   LAME
THIS is the info on the problematic song:
    Kind:                  MPEG Audio file
    Size:                  8.2 MB
    Bit Rate:            256 kbps
    Sample Rate:     44.100 kHz

    Format:             MPEG-1, Layer 3
    Channels:          Joint Stereo
    ID3 Tag:            v2.3
    Encoded with:   LAME3.96
By the way, BOTH song (The ones synching normally, and this unsynching song), where purchased and downloaded from Amazon.com.
ANY information that will help me solved this problem will be VERY appreciated.  Likewise, if you need any additional information, please let me know...

  • HT1473 iTunes message saying the song names for this cd could not be found online when it's iTunes store, What's up with that?

I just purchased The Very Best Of Eagles CD, Popped it into my drive so excited to own the copy but when I tired to copy it to my Library I get this message saying the song names for this cd could not be found online when it's in the iTunes store, What's up with that?    Is there any way to get track information and artwork without Having to manually inter all the info?

iTunes gets track information from Gracenote's database, so iTunes must be able to reach gracenote.com and the CD must have been entered there by some purchaser already (all CD information in Gracenote is provided by we users). If these are common, commercially-distributed CDs, it may be that there is a firewall or privacy filter blocking access to gracenote.com. If these are unusual, independently-released or rare CDs, they just may not be in Gracenote yet. In the case of a custom CD where it's a compilation, Gracenote probably won't be able to identify them (it goes by complete albums, comparing the number and length of the tracks to try and figure out what album it is).
    Hope this helps.

  • Why is the itunes store removing some songs/albums here and there? First they removed all of the Monkey Majik albums, now they've deleted a album by Moonjam in the Mexico store. Im upset

First they removed all of the Monkey Majik albums in the US Store, now they've deleted a album by Moonjam in the Mexico store.
Im sorry, but im upset, very.
Some of my friends think maybe it's because that certain album or two were no longer selling. And yet, there are other ones that
literally have no reviews, no ratings, not one person buying a song from there, and yet, itunes is still hanging on to them. What's up
    with that.

"ah, so It's really up to the artists/ Distributions people that decide what can be published or sold? "
    Yes.

  • Itunes cuts all my song names down

Can anyone tell me why or offer me a soloution to why whenever i add songs to itunes over a certain character length (36 chracters i think) It automatically shortens it down.
This really is a royal pain in the arse as i have an extensive dance music collection, most of which being remixes and every time it does this i have to go and find the full name and keep renaming them.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers.

    Subzero,
I'm guessing your problem may not be a limit iTunes imposes on the length of Song Names or any other entries but rather how much of that information it is actually displaying.
And the good news for you is that you can adjust the width of the various columns in the iTunes Library display.
To do so, position your cursor over the divide between two column headings and drag the divider to the right or left. This will make the column wider or narrower as the case may be.
By expanding the Name column it will display more information, as much as you deem necessary.

  • ITunes ignores "the" in song names, how do I disable?

iTunes seems to ignore the "the" prefix in song names.
However, when one of my songs for example is named "The World". I refuse to call it "World" just because iTunes has this ridicilous limitation.
So I wanted to ask, how do I disable this?

iTunes intentionally ignores articles (a/an/the) at the beginning of text for the purposes of sorting. "The Beatles" get sorted under B not T. You can override the default behavior by putting the original non-sort values in the corresponding sort field. So if you want a song called "The World" to appear with other songs that begin with T (in a lists sorted on song name) then change the sort name to "The World", instead "World", or leaving it blank.
If you want to completely eliminate this auto-sorting feature you should be able to adjust a file called SortPrefixes.plist (location dependent on OS) and remove the entries you don't want. You will probably have to reapply this fix after each iTunes upgrade and I don't believe the effect carries through to your devices.
    See this thread for more.

  • What has itunes done to my song names??

After upgrading to the new 7.0.1, everything was working fine and so I popped in my iPod. After it was done updating, hundreds of my song names had been turned into squares, literally.. I really dont want to go through and figure out what every single one is again.. is there any way to recover that information?

a little update, ive found that on my actual ipod, and also when i paste the squares from itunes into wordpad, they appear as chinese.

  • Editing out song name numbers and iMatch

I am trying to clean up my library by editing out the numbers that are in the song names (i.e.  01 Song name, 02 Song name, etc). I have noticed that editing the song name in iTunes DOES NOT change the name of the SOURCE file, so my question is, does iMatch look at the song name within the "info metadata" or does it use the "source" filename? I would hate to do all this work for nothing.....;-)
    Thanks,
    Michael
