ITunes replicates files and adds a '1' to the name
I run iTunes on a Windows PC and store my library on a network drive.
iTunes often makes a new copy of a song, complete with a new file.
The new file will have the number 1 added to the filename.
For example, a song 'Lovemedo.mp3' will suddenly spawn 'Lovemedo1.mp3'. Both reside in the same library.
Can anyone explain why this happens and how to remove all the extra files this creates?
I think this is done by the browser when it is saving a temporary file and there's already a file with that exact name in the temp folder.

HI. I have itunes 10.6.1.7. When I goto movies i am not able to add and when I click on add file to library and select the file and add its not getting added. When i goto Library it says "feature films and home movies you add to itunes appear in movies in your iTunes library. To play a movie, just double click it". And below are two options for Downloading movies from store and rent movies. Please help.
I get the exactly the same problem with win 7, i rang apple support who suggested i try another machine/or create another account on my machine???? why should i, stupid ipad 3rd gen is now sitting here un syncable, apple support ....tut tut very poor support, its a shame im out of the 7 day period otherwise this ipad would be going straight back, older versions of itunes worked fine, some one must know a fix for this??

Can iTunes monitor folders for new files and add to library?

Is there a way to have iTunes monitor my media folders so that if I add any media files in those folders, iTunes will catch the added media files and add them into the library automatically? I have been using something similar in WMP10; moving to iTunes since iPods are not supported in WMP Sorry if this has already been asked (couldnt find anything similar through search)

when I open a music file from a source other than apple, does itunes create it's own file and can I then delete the original mp3?
If you use iTunes' default settings then when you add a file to iTunes it places a copy of the file in the iTunes media folder and it leaves the original in place. The exception is when you drag it to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder.
It does not convert the file. You can delete the original if you wish. -
Why can't iPhoto, Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iTunes Library files and Pages, Numbers, Keynote and iMovie access my iPhoto Library files now that I upgraded to '11?
Examples of what is going on:
1. In Pages, Numbers & Keynote, when I go to the media browser the Audio section reads "Open iTunes to populate this list" even after iTunes has been opened, .xml file has been replaced/repaired, etc AND Photo section reads "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto Library in this list" even after iPhoto Library has been replaced and new default library created.
2. In iMovie, similar thing ... when I go to add photos or music to a movie the iTunes files aren't present and the iPhoto photos are missing with similar messages as in #1.
3. In iPhoto, similar thing ... when I go to add music to a slideshow it says to "Open iTunes to populate this list".
It is shocking to me that Apple would let something as simple as a pathway link to associated library files get this messed up on an upgrade, but what's even more surprising is that with the number of people who seem to be having this particular issue (and I can tell from all the research that I've done for weeks online that there are a lot of them) that there doesn't seem to be a single clear answer to fixing it anywhere on these community support forums. Most of what I've seen is rehashed advice from outdated issues. What I need is a simple answer to how do we get these programs to look for the correct location of the photo and music files because I sure can't seem to find any logical place to do that through the programs' preferences files or the system preferences window?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Numbers '09 2.3 (554)I have the same problem on a new MacBook Pro. I have not been able to access the iTunes library from iPhoto since I got this computer. I looked in the Preferences file and deleted the com.apple.iApps.plist but there was no com.apple.iApps.lockfile so I just deleted the iAPPs.plist and rebooted the computer. Still no iTunes available in iPhoto.
All my music is in iTunes and plays. After reading the above I brought up Pages and I was able to access music and insert a track into a document.
Do you have any suggestions. -
I have problem with Itunes losing where podcasts and some purchased music is located. Don't know how Itunes losing the locations of the files and I can't find the files on my hard drive. What can I do to stop Itunes losing location and restore my files?
Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

Confusion on iTunes Plus Files and Computer Authorization
I wonder if someone could help me alleviate some confusion surrounding iTunes plus files and computer authorizations. I personally also have iTunes match on my account.
Reading online it appears that all iTunes Plus files do not not have DRM. I have this setup on my main iMac in my house. Now, I am copying music to my wife's laptop via home sharing. She is not using iTunes match because she has her own iTunes account. The home sharing is using her iTunes account. What is confusing me is that her laptop asking me to authorize the computer for playback of the audio files under my iTunes account. Why is this occuring if there is no DRM on the files?
I understand that I need to authorize machines for my iTunes match account, but these all should theoretically be DRM files that I am dragging and dropping via home sharing to her machine. Can anyone clarify what is going on in this situation?Go to Store -> View Account. Log in to your account and click Purchase History. Then click Report a Problem. Then choose your upgrade purchase and explain your situation.

I have attempted to install iTunes multiple times but to no avail. I have installed every file, and followed every instruction on the support pages. I click download, and it takes me directly to the "Thank You for Downloading" page without doing anything. I am running it on FireFox, and I have tried with Internet Explorer, neither have worked. I have been trying to do this for weeks now, and I am getting majorly frustrated. Please, help.
Perhaps try downloading and saving a copy of the installer to a different PC. (If you're on a 32-bit Windows system, try to download on a different 32-bit Windows system.) Copy the iTunesSetup.exe installer to an external hard-drive, or a large-enough thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R. Carry the installer back to your PC, copy the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install from the ExHD, thumb or CD-R.) Start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.

I would like to make one event file and add several realted event files in this one event file without putting all photos together. Can this be done?
Files and events ahve nothing to do with each other
If you are looking for "sub-events" that is not a feature of iPhoto
you can use albums and folders - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
If thsi does not answer your queation please ask it again - it is not clear

Itunes is unable to locate original file when attempting to play music. Songs are in the itunes media file and playable direct from there. Preferences/Advanced file location pointer is correct. Some songs play but most don't. I did move files around a bit in an attempt to share music with another account on same computor, however this did not work so have returned file to original location. Please help, I am way outside my feild in this one. Ta.
I have solved the problem. i think when I moved the media file back out of public to my account, I put it back into the wrong place and ended up with a media file inside a media file, inside another media file!! So I moved it again and fixed!! Now I just need to work out why i can't share with another account user of same computor.

How do you edit a jpeg file and add callouts and save it again as a jpeg file?
I opened a jpeg file in Acrobat Pro XI and edited the photo adding callouts. It was saved again as a PDF, and when reopened all of the callouts where there. I tried to save it as a jpeg file, and when repoened all of the callouts were gone. How do I save the file as a jpeg and have the callouts show?

You may try exporting file as PNG or TIFF instead of jpeg.

Can't even make changes to a jpg file and then save it without the program trying to change it to a psd!!!!! No wonder nobody like Adobe anymore.
Do you mean that PSD comes as a default option or that JPEG is not available no matter what?
Did you add a layer? Did you change the bit depth? Did you add transparency? The JPEG format does not support layers, nor 16-bit images, nor transparency.

I am trying to download a variety of files and when it is finished, the Mac freezes up and the task bar continue to blink on and off.
I have to go into Firefox and actually quit the application to continue. Any help is very much appreciated.are you backing up files, or doing a Time machine backup, either way, the Time machine will STOP when finished and show "last backup at XXXXXX" meaning its done...... OR if when transferring files, it will show a progress bar on your desktop and vanish when files are copied.
Open up the Hitachi drive (your G drive is made by Hitachi, and the best made by the way).....and see if the files are there.
a MORE VISUAL way is to open the hard drive file, and drag and drop files INTO the Gdrive and you can see them visually be copied there as you do it.
To see your HD on your desktop GOTO FINDER......PREFERENCES....then GENERAL TAB.........check the box marked HARD DRIVES.........then your Gdrive will appear on your desktop........open it from there, and DRAG and drop files from anywhere INTO the Gdrive....... easy visual way to see the files being copied into the Gdrive.
