Itunes "reportcrash" when iPhone/iPad Plugged In

I upgraded my iPad Mini with Retina display to iOS8 and it seemed to mess up and put the iPad in DFU mode.  So I just did the recovery and it updated just fine.  However, when I try and add apps from iTunes to my iPad they don't show up on the iPad even though they are on the little layout screens in Itunes.  I can add them directly to the iPad via the app store with no problem.  However, this issue is now occurring with my iPhone as well.
There is some bug that kicks in when I plug in either device to my MacBook when iTunes is running.  If no device is plugged in iTunes runs just fine.  The moment I plug in either device I see "ReportCrash" in the Activity Monitor get pegged to 100% and it goes away the instant I unplug either device.  Here are some of the things I have tried:
1. Repaired permissions
2. Connected devices over Wifi Sync (same "ReportCrash" in activity monitor"
3. Removed all Pref files and restarted computer
4.  Uninstalled itunes and restarted computer then reinstalled itunes.
5. Made a dummy account (totally untouched)
All tries result in the same pegging of my CPU the moment any device is attached.  I am running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and the iPad is on iOS8 and the iPhone is 7.0.6.
Would love some ideas of what to do to fix this issue!  Thanks!

I think it is pretty much confirmed to be an iTunes 11.4 issue on 32-bit machines. I found a forum topic that talked about reloading the kernel extensions underlying iTunes as it fixed the issue for some people. This involved unloading the .kext file. Reinstalling 11,4 and reloading the .kext file through the terminal. When I tried this my machine reported that the .kext file installed by 11.4 didn't contain an extension with the right architecture. Pulling the old .kext file from TimeMachine this one did, but it wouldn't link with 11.4.
So basically I believe iTunes application was compiled for 32 and 64 bit architectures, but the .kext files weren't. So the iTunes installer didn't complain, because as far as it is concerned everything was fine. At run time however, we got the symptoms we observed.
I found a post that showed which kext files and a few others were installed by 11.4 that stops 11.3 installing properly, and then reinstalled 11.3. Everything works fine now, and we will have to wait and see if Apple will be bothered about recompiling iTunes 11.4 to support all Intel platforms. Sadly I suspect they will simply declare 32 bit Intel based Mac unsupported, despite recoil pile being a relatively trivial task.

  • ITunes crashes when iPhone is plugged into computer

Ever since upgrading both iPhone software and iTunes iTunes shuts down when I plug my iPhone in to my computer. I have a 32gig G3S iPhone. iTunes runs fine and the phone works ok after a glitch or two this past week (lost phone connectivity Saturday and then black screened on Monday). However everytime I plug my iPhone into the USB port (direct connection) iTunes will give me the unexpected error message and need to shut down. I have followed the directions on how to completely uninstall iTunes and all related software (QuickTime bonjour etc) and still the same problem. I am running winXP Home and it's up to date.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Found my own solution.

If your computer is running Windows, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.  Check to see if "Apple Mobile Device" Service is Started.  If not right click on this service and select Start.  Also make sure Startup type is set to Automatic.  If not, right click on this service, select Properties and set it to Automatic.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Whenever I am listening to itunes on my iphone and plug it in to my USB in my car radio, the song stops and instead the first alphabetical song is played. It also does this when it's been plugged in the car, and then I remove it, and it reverts back to the first alphabetical song. This has only happened after I updated my phone. Does anyone have any ideas?!

I appreciate the commentary response but I'm not sure how this resolved my problem.  The car was made before the iPhone coming out.  By this fact, it would seem as if Apple has not made the product to compliment cars made before it.
Can anyone provide me steps to resolve this issue please?

Hold Sleep and Home buttons for 10 seconds until your device restarts, so you will be able to use the iPad again.
The iPad makes a backup into iCloud automatically when it's connected to the network and it is been charged

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • ITunes 10.5 crashes when iPhone 4 plugged in

After my partition got corrupted last night (thanks 10.7.2 and FileVault!) I restored from a 1 month old backup. I updated to 10.7.2 and iTunes to 10.5. Now when I plug my iPhone 4 in (Running iOS 5 GM), it tells me I need to put the passcode in and unlock it first. So I do this and click the 'try again' button, but when I do that iTunes closes. If I open up iTunes with my iPhone already unlocked, it crashes. How can I fix this?
Edit: Just plugged it in on a Windows machine, it works fine, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with the phone.

  • ITunes doesn't launch automatically when iPhone is plugged in.

It used to be, that when I plugged my iPhone into my Mac, iTunes launched automatically. It stopped doing that.
If I launch iTunes myself the iPhone appears and everything works fine. I checked all the settings and asked the guy at the Genius Bar, but no joy. Anyone know what can cause this?

    Hey Alexander,
Has iTunes Helper been removed from the login items? Go to System Preferences> Accounts> Login Items.
You can add it again manually as described here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1610692
you can also get it back by downloading and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes.

  • ITunes crashes when connecting iPad or iPhone

iTunes crashes when i connect iPad or iPhone.  Running OSX 10.9.3 and the most up to date iTunes version?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • ITunes freezing when iPhone plugged into USB

I've had my iPhone since September 08 and never had any problems syncing. Today when I plugged in my (90% charged) iPhone into my computer after adding some music to iTunes the program froze. At first it started to sync but asked if I wanted to update something. Not sure exactly what it was, some type of setting. I said yes and it downloaded whatever that was and did not sync after that. I unplugged the iPhone and replugged it to start the sync. The phone is charging so the USB port is working. I tried restarting the computer and the iPhone, repairing iTunes, different USB ports, and nothing is working. iTunes will function normally until the iPhone is plugged in. Then it freezes.
I at least have a working phone, but I'd really really like to sync.

SWEET RELIEF! i've been having this same problem and its nearly been the death of me (and/or my macbook and/or iphone). the second i connect my iphone to USB, itunes immediately just goes unresponsive/hangs. i've been staring at that freaking swirling rainbow for days. i've gone over every single how-to/troubleshooting/etc. topic in apple support, and gotten exactly nowhere.
but then i found your post, deleted my podcasts, and it was like magic - iphone/itunes sync up and running like clockwork.
my sanity thanks you... TO EVERYONE ELSE HAVING THE SAME PROB - THIS WORKS!!! JUST DELETE WHATEVER PODCASTS/APPS YOU DOWNLOADED FROM YOUR IPHONE, AND PROBLEM SOLVED.
    LadyNigelia you're my hero.

  • ITunes cannot recognize iPhone/iPad via WiFi Sync following motherboard change

    Hi folks,
I'm having a problem with synchronising my iPhone (and iPad) to iTunes on Windows 7 Home Premium via WiFi sync.
This never used to be a problem - both devices would be identified by iTunes (occasionally this was sporadic, however a simple WiFi off/on would usually solve the problem).
I have recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU in my Windows 7 PC and after updating some drivers, etc. all of a sudden, I cannot connect to WiFi Sync anymore. I can still synchronise my devices via the cable - i.e. the devices are correctly identified by the PC, but for some reason post the motherboard change, as soon as I pull the plug out of the device, the device disappears from iTunes.
I can confirm that the "Synchronise this device via WiFi sync" tick boxes are checked, and the Machine Name is the same, so my iPhone is still looking for the same PC.
I'm wondering if because of the motherboard change, there is an internal signature that the iPhone/iPad looks for that is no longer the same.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes to no avail. I cannot seem to find any solution to this problem - no matter what I do, iTunes will simply not recognise my devices over WiFi anymore.
    Welcome any advice or thoughts.
    System details:
    - Intel i7 2700K (Upgraded from Intel i3 550)
    - ASUS P8Z68-M Pro (Upgraded from an ASUS P7H55-M/USB3
    - iPhone 4S
    - iPad 2
    - Windows 7 Home Premium
    Cheers,
    Mike.

    Folks,
I thought I should post a follow up - in case any Apple Support people scour these forums.
The problem seems to have resolved by itself, which is both a good and bad thing.
I made absolutely no changes last night, not even a system reboot, to launch iTunes today and the system miraculously discover both my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2. I think this highlights a broader problem is that the WiFi sync capability is inconsistent and very difficult to troubleshoot. I have no idea why it has all of a sudden started working, especially when I have changed no wireless, networking, firewall or Anti Virus settings.
Anyway thank you to those who had a read, and I wish I could provide more insight on why it has started working all of a sudden, and importantly, what caused it to stop working.
Perhaps it is simply like two people - the new PC and its motherboard needed to 'get to know' the devices before it felt comfortable in allowing a connection .
I have no other more rational explanation!
    Cheers all,
    Mike.

  • ITunes unresponsive when iPhone connected

When I plug my iPhone 5c to my Macbook Pro via USB, the iPhone device icon shows on iTunes but it just hangs (spinning wheel). I am running the latest OS Yosemite and iTunes and the latest updates on my iPhone.
I have gone through every step in the iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support article including:
    Creating a new iTunes account on my primary User Account (still have same problem) and;
Creating a new User Account on my computer and connecting my iPhone to my current iTunes account (my device is recognized, don't have a problem).
Obviously the problem has something to do with my primary User Account on my computer.  I'm really not sure where to go from here.  Any advice?  Thanks.

I launched iTunes and connected my iPhone before copying/posting the log.  Thank you for your help.

  • ITunes opens when iPhone is connected even if "Auto sync" is disabled?

I use my iMac (10.9.3) at home to Sync with my iPhone (7.1.1) to keep a full backup copy. I have the setting "Automatically Sync when this iPhone is connected" active, and up to recently this worked nicely. However, I think since the update to iTunes 11.2.x there seems to be a problem:
    - when I am not at home, I use my MBP (also 10.9.3 and iTune 11.2.2) to charge the iPhone.
    - in contrast to earlier versions of iTunes, connecting the iPhone to the MBP causes iTunes to open. It is NOT possible to sync because the iPhone is connected to the iTunes library on the iMac.
    - when I disable the iTunes option "Automatically Sync when this iPhone is connected" on the MBP, the next time I connect the iPhone to the iMac iTunes does not open. And when I open it manually and "mount" the iPhone, the iTunes option "Automatically Sync when this iPhone is connected" is disabled.
Any idea to solve this problem?
It seems that the iTunes option "Automatically Sync when this iPhone is connected" is now stored on the iPhone?

Meanwhile I can answer my own question :
Go to iTunes Prefs => Devices Tab => activate "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically"
The drawback is that if you want to charge two iPhones with an iMac and an MPB, and sync one of the iPhones with the iMac and the other with the MBP, you need to take manual action.
