ITunes required a restart twice during New Year's Eve party

I was playing music for a New Year's Eve party using iTunes on my MacBook Pro into Audioengine powered speakers. Twice, the music basically stopped playing, requiring a restart. You could hear some noise and the song that was playing at very low volume. I tried closing the program and reopening, but only a full restart brought the music back. What happened? I'm using iTunes 8.02.

I finally stumbled across a fix for this problem, and in case someone else is frustrated at some point by a similar issue I'm posting what finally worked to enable me to bring iTunes up at any time (without rebooting first).
The solution was to go to the preferences to uncheck "search for shared libraries".
I'm glad the problem is fixed, but Apple developers really should include a timeout function on iTunes search for a shared libraries. At least a visual dialog to confirm that the application is in the process of searching for a shared library on the network would help provide clues as to what is causing the spinning beach ball to appear right about the time the application window should pop up.

  • Troubleshooting RAM .... need New Year's Eve Help ...

I want to start out tby telling you just how cool I am.   It's 11:05 on New Year's Eve and I have been trouble shooting the RAM of my early 2008 Mac Pro for 3 hours.   Yep, real cool.
I have tried multiple configuration of memory cards - 4 in the top, 2 in the bottom; all slots used; 2 in top, 2 in the bottom .... replacing cards with alternate cards .... you name it.   For some reason it will only accept 4 cards and when I fill all slots it accepts 2 cards.
Can anyone help?   Your assistance is much appreciated.   Oh, Happy New Year!

Much appreciated guys!   You were correct.   I added another 2 4GM DIMMs.  So the top has 4 4GB and the bottom has 4 2GB.   Top and bottom DIMMs are different manufacturers.   It works!
You know it's amazing how this computer is an early 2008 and the only real upside I see in new iMacs versus my computer is Thunderbolt (I upgraded my video card to a Radeon 5770).   Not that big of a deal ...
    Thanks again!

  • Text/Signal during New Years

Around 12:05 of (today) New Years I had my bars on my phone for the signal but even as I texted out several friends for new years i had not received the their text's back for 1+ hours. When I had finally received their texts I was bombarded by their texts but what really upset me was that I had problems with my signal or so. Can this problem be explained so I could have a clear idea of what's happening? Please and thank you!

I suspect an influx of Happy New Year texts going out all over the place.

  • MY IPHONE DELETED ALL MY CONTACTS - AT THE STROKE OF NEW YEAR

    2012, end of the world?
Last night, New Year's eve, at midnight, my iPhone deleted ALL of my contacts. That was nearly 5000 contacts! I don't use MobileMe as far as I'm aware, and I don't want to sync to my computer lest it deletes all contacts from there too. How do I restore my contacts??!!

It will COMPLETELY restore everything to how it was the instant you backed up. However, you can back up your current state on your iPhone, restore from the previous backup, get the contacts, sync with iCloud, then restore from the latest backup to have your contacts AND diary entries.
This post shows that you are using iOS 4.3.3. To use iCloud requires that you upgrade to iOS 5.0.

  • IPhone 5 Apps won't open after New Years Eve

I got a new iPhone 5 for Christmas.  Everything was working fine up until New Year's Eve.  On January 1st non of my Apps will open.  I've deleted them manually from the phone and reinstalled them from the App Store, powered phone off, put phone in airplane mode and non of my purchased Apps will open.  Only Apps that work are those that came pre-installed.  I'm thinking I might just go back to using my 3GS never had an issue.

Panic over!!! I just hit one of the apps and it opened....not sure what is going on but all looks good now.  Phew what a relief.

  • Reset a Sequence at Midnight on New Years Eve

    Hi,
How can I reset a sequence generator at midnight on New Year’s Eve?
Using SQL script and SQL-Plus, I know how to set the sequence increment to a negative number large enough to return the “Next Val” to 1 (then re-set increment to 1).
But, ‘need help to understand how to cause this action to happen automatically. I’m thinking along the lines of a trigger or stored procedure.
    Thank you

I have some thing to add to John's idea.
You could use a negative INCREMENT BY. Typically most sequences are created without reference to minvalue. Oracle sets a value for the minvalue. If the original sequence was not created with 'nominvalue' then, the error like the following will show up.
ORA-08004: sequence sequencename.NEXTVAL goes below MINVALUE and cannot be instantiated
Hence you are better off doing the following in order.
    1. Alter the sequence and set the appropriate negative INCREMENT BY and also specify 'nominvalue'.
    2. Use a select statement to get the next value.
    3. Alter the sequence a second time to set INCREMENT BY to the original value.
Some one could put this in a script and run it only once.

  • ITunes requires a new version of AMDS.....

Trust me, I know that this has been posted before that I will probably be linked to http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567 OR http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925. I have tried both but to no avail.
This has been more recent when I wanted to update my iPod touch to the most current version. So when I went to do that it said that it needed the newest version of iTunes available, I was like "OK" and went to download it. Since there was connection problems (I believe) I had, and mistakenly, clicked more than once on the link. This caused multiple instances of the installer to appear. Then I had closed all of them except the one and tried to install it like normal. Everything had worked out until I had plugged in my iPod touch. Then I got the message of "iTunes requires a new version of AMDS....". I was very confused what this meant, so I went to restart my computer first, then I went and tried to re-install iTunes thinking that maybe something had gone wrong since there was so many different instances of the installer. To no avail, both had been failures. So I went into this deeper and looked around on the Apple discussions and support/knowledge base. I found the two links that I had posted earlier, the first one about restarting the services didn't apply since the service already had the appropriate settings of already running and automatically starting up. Oh, I had forget to mention that I had tried to uninstall and re-install iTunes, but of course I didn't know there was a process to doing that, a specific order. So then after I found that you had to do certain programs first I followed that exactly, but when I had went to uninstall AMDS it did not uninstall. I tried more than once to uninstall it, even when everything else was gone - and yet it stuck around. So I had restarted my computer again thinking that something had went wrong and it is probably uninstalled and my computer just isn't recognizing it..Nope, still there. So now I have iTunes re-installed again and an outdated iPod touch. If someone could please either find out the issue or give me an exact guide (that works!) that would be great.

Okay. That rules out some variation of the "Fatal error" issues that have been affecting AMDS uninstalls in some user accounts but not in others.
So the most likely thing to be going wrong here is damage to the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any *Apple Mobile Device Support* entries, and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes 9.2 again. Does the install of AMDS go through properly this time? If so, is your device recognised when you plug her in this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Itunes requires newer version of apple mobile device

I keep getting "Itunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Please unistall itunes and AMDS and install again"
I have done this a number of times and it makes no difference. It started this about 4 months ago and I managed to find a download for a older version of itunes that worked and used old libraries. I tried today with the new verson and same thing. Unfortunately I have also managed to mess up my old libraries and cannot get the older verion to read my older libraries now.
The new verson is now giving me "the procdure entry point_obj_load_image could not be located in the dynmaic link library objc.dll." and then proceeds to lock up and I have to kill itunes thru task manager.

Itunes doesnt lock up anymore either (so far) so I can just click ok on the msg and continue.
When I plug my phone it then gives me the "requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device support..."
    Okay.
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?
If instead you get another error message during the repair install (or uninstall/reinstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Error: iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support.

Yesterday, I upgraded to iTunes 9 x64 (running Windows 7). The installation went fine and iTunes seemed to be working great until I plugged in my iPhone. When I plug it in, rather than showing up under my devices, I get an error message popping up:
iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again.
    ( picture: http://imgur.com/HdJSx.png )
I have tried to uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support with little success and tried running the repair for the iTunes install, but I still have failure. I am worried about losing all of my iTunes data if I uninstall - I recently switched over to a different OS installation and copied my iTunes config information (XML docs and stuff) - it kept my library intact, but sneakily reset my iPhone to a way old configuration and deleted most of my data from it.
So... (1) has anyone else run into this and overcome it, and (2) how can I follow the directions [uninstalling/reinstalling] without losing my data, computer authorization with iTunes, etc.?
    Thanks

Ok, here is what seems to have worked for me. I was not able to uninstall AMDS from the control panel, because it was generating a fatal error. I then stopped all apple related services, and then did a repair installation. This allowed me to uninstall AMDS, but when I went to repair Itunes...it didn't reinstall AMDS.
I then uninstalled everything related to Apple, Itunes, Bonjour, Apple software update, Apple application support, the Iphone Configuration utility. I then installed Itunes 9 from the downloaded file, and it opened fine. I then connected my iphone and it synced fine as well. It's downloading the 3.1 firmware now and I will disconnect and reconnect once that is installed to make sure it's all still working.
Hopefully this works for the rest of you.
p.s. I didn't reboot at all during the uninstall of all services and reinstall.

  • TS1538 "itunes requires a newer version of apple mobile device support. Please uninstal both apple mobile device support and itunes and then reinstall itunes." I have done this 3 times!!!

I have just installed the new version of itune (11.1) and it keeps coming up with this message. "itunes requires a newer version of apple mobile device support. Please uninstall both apple mobile device support and itunes and then reinstall itunes."  I have done this step 3 times, while following the support steps on how to fully remove all itunes and related programs. I keep getting the same issue.
Also, my computer recognizes my phone but itunes wont. When I try to do a driver update according to the support page it keeps telling me that "The folder specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows x64- based systems." On the support page it also suggests trying an alternate folder (program files(x86)/common files/ apple/ mobile device software/ drivers) That doesn't work either.
I am getting extremely frustrated....  Can someone PLEASE help!!!!
I also just upgraded my phone from and iphone4 to an iphone 5c.

many thanks. That's also useful to know.
