Itunes resets and I lose my playlists

SOS, SOS, SOS. I have a dell latitude running windows 7 OS and my itunes resets removing all of my music files. The itunes folder is still there, I just have to reload the 18G of music each time I open itunes. Cant add new playlists, because they will be deleted and reset. I have been on itunes for 8 years, and have purchased alot of music. Dont want to try to switch, just want it to work.
Any suggestions????

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • ITunes reset library! Lost all playlists etc.

Hi Folks, I've consulted this forum many times over the years but have a problem that I can't find a solution to:
I was quietly working away organising my itunes when itunes crashed while in the middle of syncing with my ipod! When I reopened itunes, it has deleted all playlists etc. and all that remains are the tracks bought from the itunes store and not added from CDs etc. My latest previous library file was over 3 months ago at the last update I presume and I've spent weeks sorting out my >150GB library since then! I still have all my music stored on an external hard drive (where it always was) but it's the loss of hundreds of playlists and play counts that is really bugging me.
Could anybody shed some light on how to get my itunes library back to normal? I must stress that previous itunes library versions are too old to be of much use and I don't want to start all my playlists again from scratch.
This is the second time this has happened in 2013 and I now realise the need to manually back up the itunes library files!
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

You can change the email address you use as your apple ID. this doesn't mean you have to delete the old email address as email.
When you delete an email from your device, it is only removed from the device, it does not delete your emails or the email account.

My iTunes operating files were somehow corrupted on my pc. Is there a way to download iTunes again while  preserving my playlists?
I cannot open iTunes at all right now.
My playlists are intact on my iPod.
    Thanks

    Hi, InsaneCharlie.
Thanks for the question.  I see you have uninstalled iTunes and want this program back.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes if present and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.  If none of your data was modified in the iTunes media folder, then your data should be present upon installation.

  • Updated itunes, ipod and now i have playlist issues.

just upgraded to OS X (5.8). then upgraded ipod to os 4.2. then updated itunes to 10. now i am having interesting issues when i plug the ipod into the computer. of course, everything on the ipod music was wiped out. so i had to sync back all the music. but now i cannot make any playlists when i plug in the ipod. i can only make playlists in itunes on the computer. this is not right. i made several playlists on my ipod before. when i hit the file drop down menu, none of the playlist options are highlighted when i have the ipod selected. what has happened or what do i need to do???

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Can you keep extra songs on your iPod that are not in your iTunes library, and not lose these songs every time you want to delete something from your iPod in the future?

I have all these songs that I want to store on my iPod but not on my computer, and I know that by choosing to manually manage my music I can still hang on to these songs when I add new songs to my iPod.  However, what if I want to delete songs off of my iPod in the future?  Will I lose all of the extra music that is on my iPod but not my computer, due to the fact that the only way to delete songs seems to be by syncing?

The answer to the question in the title of the thread is yes, but it is not necessarily a good idea. At some point you are likely to find you need to restore your iPod for one reason or another, or it could be lost, stolen or damaged. If your songs aren't on your computer, and backed up too, then you will be less than happy.

  • How can I sync my iPad with a new laptop (same itunes account) and not lose all my app data, i.e. games data stored on the ipad, not the app itself?

I want to sync my iPad with a new laptop, so I can get rid of the old computer.  I have already downloaded all the itunes content on the new laptop, but when i go to sync, it tells me that itunes will erase and copy all the apps from the new library.  The 2 computers are on the same account, so is there a way to copy the apps (including app data) onto the new laptop, instead of vice versa?

  • I have itunes 10 and when I burn playlist to a cd the songs to not save to the disc.  What am I doing wrong

    Cannot create a cd

I replied because you posted in a forum that I frequent and saw that a thread not applicable to this forum had been bumped. And no, I didn't think it a waste time to comment to a new participant in the forums about what I consider to be an unhelpful and actually rude reply.  If you wish to waste your time, that's your call, but I see nothing in roaminggnome's post that could in any way be considered mean. It was terse but made no insult or negative comment, just provided direction. So your reponse was rude and unhelpful.
As to your profession, that's irrelevant, but yes, I can guess, and I could make a commment that would certainly be "mean".
    'nuff said.

  • I have two iTunes account and want one without losing purchased apps

I have two itune accounts, How do I close down one iTunes account and not lose purchased apps from the account closed.

You can't close or delete an account, all you can do is remove any personal info from it and stop using it - but any content that you purchased or downloaded with it will remain tied to it, so you will need to remember its id and password for re-downloading and or re-authorising.

No downloads, worked for me 3 times.

    Never tried it.
There are other softwares that you can download that can do this also. Search the forum for something like "computer crashed" and you'll get plenty.
    I hope this helps!

  • ITunes resets randomly and loses all my media

I've recently updated to the latest version of iTunes and it seems every time I close the program and later reopen it, it resets and loses all of my media (music, tv shows, playlists, etc.). I am greeted by the welcome to iTunes message and am asked to scan for media. Needless to say, doing this is rather annoying as it takes about 10 minutes to add the 100 GB of music and process the album artwork and genious data. iTunes is however unable to recover any playlist data, which, I assume, is now gone forever. I have already tried unistalling and reinstalling iTunes. Are there any fixes for this problem out there, or am I the only one experiencing this problem?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
What you describe is absolutely not normal. Sometimes a BB will randomly reboot itself, but it is very unusual for that to cause any data wipe whatsoever. Something is definitely wrong there.
There are things you can try on your own (e.g., a clean OS reload, or a "bare bones" OS reload and then a slow reload of additional things, etc.), but if you don't want to deal with it (and, being new, if I were you I'd not want to deal with it!), then you definitely should take it in for warranty evaluation.
    Good luck!

  • I recently reset my computer to factory settings. I re-downloaded iTunes, but lost most of my music and all of my playlists in both iTunes and my 4S.  How can I get this back?

I recently reset my computer to factory settings. I re-downloaded iTunes, but lost most of my music and all of my playlists in both iTunes and my 4S.  How can I get this back?

Restore your media from the backup of the computer created prior to restoring the computer.
You did create a backup, correct?  Not doing so would be extremely unintelligent.
iOS devices are NOT backup devices.
