ITunes resets Details in Windows Explorer

Ever since installing iTunes on my XP Pro machine, it has taken control of the details selection of Windows Explorer. Without iTunes open, the details shown when opening Windows Explorer include Album, Artist, Duration, etc., which are pointless when looking at my normal files and folders. If I deselect the unwanted details and select the disired details, they will be reset to the iTunes selections the next time I reboot, e v e n i f I n e v e r o p e n i T u n e s. Whats up with that? How can I make iTunes stop reseting the default details for Windows Explorer? Any help is appreciated.

I am trying to make the song details such as album name and artist show up in the media properties of the itunes media folder in windows explorer in windows 8.1. All the information shows in iTunes, and although I have consolidated the library and ticked Keep Media Folder Organised under Edit > Preferences > Advanced, the information is not showing. In explorer nothing is Read only and the "Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file" check box is ticked for all songs. The only songs that I am having this problem with are ones that have been imported from a CD.

iTunes does not process tags for WAV files. It stores the Artist, Album, etc in the library (and displays them in the normal fashion) but they are not part of the file and will not be available if the file is viewed outside of iTunes. Pls consider converting the WAV files to AIFF, which has the same full uncompressed PCM encoding as WAV, but also allows tags and artwork to be embedded in the file.
Regarding the Convert ID3 Tag command, right-click the iTunes library entry of the MP3 song, and the command will appear in the contextual menu. (It will not appear when you right-click the library entry of a WAV file, for reasons that are apparent per the previous paragraph.)

So my iPod appears in iTunes just fine, i can sync it and everything, but when i want to move my photos over, my iPod never shows up in windows explorer anymore. All the support tutorials are for if your iPod shows up in windows explorer and not itunes (or not both) but none are vise versa. What can i do?

If you are unable to reset the iPod (assuming the hold switch is not in the On position either), then you'll have to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then connect it to a charger and leave it to charge for a couple of hours.

IPod not showing up in Windows explorer / iTunes - not responding to reset

I have updated my new (1 day old!!) iPod nano to the newest firmware (1.1.1.)... and now I can't use the iPod anymore.
It doesn't show up in Windows Explorer. When I try to connect to it via Run, it says: 'E:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
When trying to open Windows Explorer, it freezes - not showing any harddrives.
When trying to connect to it via CMD (dos)... It reads: 'The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
I have tried all the soft resets, hard resets etcetera. I have uninstalled the USB driver for iPod, uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled them both, used different USB ports. But still no success.
I can't connect to it via iPod Updater, because Windows won't connect to it.
The iPod itself does respond, although I can't find any data on it anymore.
How do I get my iPod to work again: connect to my windows / iTunes player? Please, any help is appreciated!

I have tried all the 'Rs' that Apple recommend. As said, I can't hook up the iPod to my computer. I have tried to reset the iPod manually (holding the select and menu button) - but this doesn't work.
If there is another (manual) way to restore the iPod, I would love to hear about it.

Possibilities are that you are working with copies of the originals in which case it is only the copies that get updated, or that the songs are in .wav format and cannot carry a tag, or are in some other format and didn't include a tag so iTunes hasn't created one even though it has recorded details internally, or that there are mp3 files with multiple tags. iTunes doesn't cope well with multiple tags (despite these conforming to standards) and in this case may be making changes to one copy while Windows Explorer continues to show unchanged data from another. Use a 3rd party tag tool to inspect a problem album, or select the tracks and use Right-click > Convert ID3 Tags > None two or three times to strip out the embedded tags, then use Convert ID3 Tags > v2.3 to recreate them.
Note the process of cleaning and rewriting the tags will remove any embedded art. You can use my script CreateFolderArt before and after converting the tags to preserve and then embed the artwork, provided that you don't store songs from different albums in the same folder. Test a single track or album first to make sure the process has the desired result and only apply where needed.

My iPod mini is not appearing in iTunes or windows explorer.

My iPod is not appearing in iTunes or explorer. Only when I go to hardware manager windows admits that there is something that is not installed properly. But when I start the hardware manager and put in the CD, as required by the hardware assistant it says: Hardware couldn’t be installed.
So it is not even possible to reset my iPod, because is not recognized by the iPod Updater. I had to go to another computer to reset the iPod. After that my computer is still not recognizing it. So I installed the latest version of iTunes and Updater, but it doesn’t help. I installed also the latest drivers for my computer, but it did not work. Running the iPod in disc mode doesn’t change anything, too.
The iPod is not listed under disc management so I can’t change the Drive from E to G.
I tried the inactivation of all Microsoft-services according to the protocol from the apple web page, but it did not work, even after installing the latest version of iTunes.
I've read the entire troubleshooting pages on how to fix it.
The message on the iPod mini display is always the same when I connect it: “do not disconnect” and after about 3 seconds “OK to disconnect”. But the iPod is never listed in windows explorer or iTunes. I also reseted it, when it was connected to the computer.
I completely run out ideas and I am about to send it to service.
Can anyone help?

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.

Would someone PLEASE tell me how to get my iPod to show up in iTunes or as disk in Windows Explorer?
According to our PC XP computers, we do not have an ipod and it won't charge when plugged into USB. It worked fine for 10 months until this morning (10/26/06). We have ruled out bad USB drive by using flash drive on that USB and it worked fine. Reseting ipod does not work (ipod does not respond to reset command hold toggle then hold menu + play for up to 10 sec). Reseting ipod within ipod menu does nothing. ANY suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

ITunes Freezing Both Windows Explorer and Itself!

I understand that this has been happening a lot lately due to the new iTunes version (or rather, the newest version of Quicktime?). I'm a little afraid to reinstall iTunes now because as of recently, it's been freezing up my Windows Explorer and genuinely messing up my entire PC. I've had to do a factory reset to it twice in order for me to actually use my computer again...
So, I was wondering if there was actually a fix for this now. And if there isn't, are there any ways to avoid having my PC rendered useless?

I can't find iTunes U/podcast files in iTunes OR Windows Explorer.

There are some podcasts (mostly iTunes U) on my 5th gen iPod that I cannot delete. They show up in my iPod's menus, but they do not show up in any section of iTunes. I have used Windows to show hidden files and deleted some of them off my iPod through Windows Explorer (I still couldn't find all of them, and I went through every file on my iPod), but even after I deleted the files in Windows they still show up on my iPod after I eject it!
Does anyone have any ideas, short of wiping it clean and starting over, how I can delete these podcasts? It's driving me crazy.

I forgot to add that even though the files show in my iPod after being deleted while connected to Windows, they are not playable in the iPod. If I click play the iPod starts freaking out and not responding properly (the scroll wheel gets all jerky).
I did multiple soft resets and that did not fix the issue. Thanks all!

ok here's the deal, like it says in the subject line, when I hook it to my pc it charges but isn't recognized by itunes or windows explorer. I've already reset the ipod (by holding down center and menu button.) and I've already uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. Just got done checking services. The ipod service was set to manual, so I restarted it and changed it to automatic. Then I reset the ipod and plugged it back in, still no good?!?!?!?
Any ideas, besides something super drastic. Thanks in advance

Itunes info into Windows Explorer

Before I recently updated iTunes whenever I would enter detailed information about a song in the iTunes information tab if I had Windows Explorer open that same information would appear in the proper columns on the same MP3 file line in Windows Explorer. After I installed the latest version of iTunes that no longer happens. I didn't change any settings in iTunes that I am aware of.
I found this very convenient to maintain only updated information on my songs. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might have changed or how I can get this function to happen again.

This can sometimes happen with files that have multiple tags. iTunes shows and updates one version while Windows Explorer shows another. In some cases iTunes can even update one tag and then reread unchanged data from another. I suspect nothing has changed but you've run into a problem album at the same time as the update. Check with a file you know has changed in the past.
One way to clean up the tags is to select some tracks and use the right-click option Convert ID3 Tags > None a few times, then use Convert ID3 Tags > v2.3. iTunes will retain and then replace all of the information it has with the exception of embedded artwork which will be removed.

IPhone 5S opens in Windows Explorer but doesn't connect to iTunes?

When I plug my iPhone 5S into my computer it opens in Window Explorer so that I can access my photos, but it doesn't open in iTunes. iTunes and my iPhone are both completely updated (iOS 7.0.5 and iTunes 11.1.4). I have restarted my computer and I have done a hard reset and nothing has worked. I haven't had this problem until now. It charges and all, but it doesn't register in iTunes. What can I do?

Your iPod touch will never appear in Windows Explorer, by the way. It doesn't have the "disk mode" that the older iPods did.
