ITunes resets my PC when it begins updating podcasts

I have used iTunes with zero issues for a long time on my computer. No hardware changes have been made. No software changes have been made that I know of but things get updated more automatically these days, and perhaps there has been some minor change.
When I launch iTunes, it starts fine. I go to podcasts and right click on a podcast (any) and select "update podcast"... within 10-15 seconds, iTunes will freeze for a moment, and then CLICK my PC completely shuts off. I have to hard restart it.
Has anyone had this problem before? It's very repeatable and I miss iTunes.

eeek. there was a hassle with video podcasts and QT 7.0.4 where if a file was corrupted in just the right/wrong way it could crash itunes ... but i hadn't seen one crash an entire PC like that before. (i might have missed reports though.)
is it possible to identify which podcast seemed to be causing you the hassle? or does it seem to happen any time you download any podcast?

Assuming your network is working for other activities, and it's just the Mac App Store that's failing...
Try restarting the download within the Mac App Store.
Failing that, restart Mac App Store and try restarting the download again.
Then failing all that, I'd close Mac App Store, reboot the system, and open and try the Mac App Store download again.
Here are some details on the Mac App Store (including how to cancel and restart downloads), and here are the App Store Troubleshooting suggestions from Apple.

  • ITunes loads, but freezes when it checks for podcast subscriptions

For the last week, I have been getting lock ups on iTunes and Firefox. It seems it started just before I updated to OS 10.4.10, but it may have happened when I installed the update. Essentially, iTunes is unuseable. I can use iTunes for a couple of minutes as long as I am NOT online. As soon as I go online, the application freezes within 30 seconds. I have repaired permissions. I downloaded 7.2 again last night and the new 7.3 this morning but still the same lock ups.
    Any help?

Me too. Well I haven't used firefox but iTunes freezes within seconds of trying to download podcasts. This is only on my eMac. I tried all sorts of things but the one that works is quite tedious. first back up everything and then delete everything and i mean everything. Launch iTunes go into preferences/ podcasts/check for new episodes and click on 'manually' that will give you time to back up without iTunes freezing. Then download "AppZapper"- http://www.appzapper.com/ or AppDelete - http://reggie.ashworth.googlepages.com/appdelete then delete everything, download iTunes and re-install. then reload everything. A real pain I know but it worked for me. Good Luck.

  • Itunes 7.0.1.8 hangs when trying to update podcasts

I'm a newbie, recently got an 80 GB video ipod.
I set a few podcasts to download, but when I start up itunes, and it starts to update multiple podcasts, it just hangs and I have to do an end task from the Task Manager manually.
I've verified this by disabling my, network port and restarting itunes. When I do this it doesn't crash.

I'm having the same trouble. I'm subscribed to about 30-40 podcasts (2 hour commute) and I can keep iTunes running for about 1 minute before it locks up on me. I'm still searching for answers.

  • Wrong iTunes email comes up when trying to update apps on iPad

I'm trying to update my apps on my iPad.  When the box pops up to enter your iTunes password, the wrong email is showing. How do I change the email in the pop up box? Thanks in advance for your help!

OK. You can try here as well.
Go to the app store. Tap on the featured tab. Swipe to the bottom of the screen. You can access your Apple ID in the bottom left corner. If it is showing the wrong ID - tap it and sign out then sign in with the correct ID.
Did you try updating the apps with the old ID that is showing? iTunes knows which apps belong to which ID. So if that ID is popping up when you try to update the apps, I would have to assume that the ID was used to purchase those apps.
If they are free apps - just download them again.

  • ITunes opens explorer window when searching for updates or selecting restore for any iOS device.

When trying to check for updates from within iTunes for any device, or trying to restore a device in iTunes I click the update/restore button and iTunes opens an explorer window for me to browse to the .ipsw file. I am unable to get iTunes to check the Apple servers for the restore/update files.
Where is this setting stored either in the registry or the iTunes folder?
I have performed a clean uninstall (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923) , have removed my apple preferences that were stored in the AppData folders for each user and have reinstalled and still see the explorer box rather than the check apple for updates dialogue.
I have a feeling that the particular setting is somewhere in either the itunes library folder, in the registry or in another plist file... but where is the question?

Have you had any luck in resolving this issue? Seems Apple are a bit quiet on it...

  • HT1923 removed itunes after getting error when trying to update. restarted computeer and now i can't download it

I'm trying to re-install i-tunes on my PC but it won't let me. I had an error message when i loaded i-tunes and then uninstalled it as instructed. what do i do now?

After I did that I tried to install and it just tells me "Thank you for using itunes" without actually installing it.
Try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • How do you stop itunes from backing up when trying to update software?

I have itunes 10.5 and I'm trying to download the new IOS5 software to my iphone. I keep getting an error message saying there is not enough space to backup, but itunes backups anyway and then all the space ends up running out and I have to do a system restore. I'm on windows xp and I want to find a way to stop the backup process completely. Any ideas?

    iTunes does no such thing.
The dropbox app on the device has such a feature, turn it off.

  • ITunes doesn't respond when unsubscribing from a podcast feed...

As the title states, iTunes basically freezes when I try to unsubscribe from a podcast feed. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

Well, nevermind about iTunes completely freezing up, as it finally unsubscribed from a podcast feed, but I would still like to know why it took so long to do so. My only guess is that the podcast I unsubscribed from had a lot of episodes that were available for download (and I mean A LOT). I only downloaded one episode, though. Any thoughts?

  • Why wont itunes recognize my phone when i plug it in

when i plug my phone into the computer nothing happens and it is not recognized

Do one or more of the following:
    > Restart your PC/Mac OS
    > Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes
    > Reset your iDevice
    > Get Lastest iOS Update (depends on what generation)
If you haven't check.... go to where you can see your hard drives (the place where you can access any USB flash drives, disc drives, hard drives.....) and see if your iDevice will show..... If it does..... go to iTunes
If you have iTunes 10.7..... look at your left hand side (the side bar).....
If you have iTunes 11..... look at the top right hand corner.....
BTW..... im not a Mac user so I'm not sure if any of this helps.... I'm a Windows person.....

  • My itunes said I needed an update, I unplugged the ipod touch and reset everything. When "connect to itunes" showed on the screen, I plugged it back in and Itunes no longer recognizes it.  I tried 4 usb cables, 4 different computers, all new itunes

I've gone through all the troubleshooting of restarting computers & itunes and updating itunes.  Trying to put in to DFU mode.  I've tried everything.   iTunes just doesnt recognize this ipod.   I have multiple ipods/iphones, and everything else works.   I am eliminating the people who are saying it's a broken pin, that cannot be it, because immediately before that moment, it was connected, everything on my ipod was listed in iTunes.  It just promted me to update to 6.0.1 (or whatever the most recent is)  I also seen a lot of issues posted on the web of people who had jailbroken phones.  This ipod touch is standard, there were no jailbreaks or anything used ever.
There was a program called Wondershare Dr.Fone, which is said to be a photo recovery tool for ipods, to retrieve recently deleted photos.  (Guess I shouldn't have been trying to do that)  I downloaded this trial and when it opened it stated that Itunes and this could not run at the same time.  It shut down iTunes automatically.  At that point, I didn't do anything more with the Wondershare Dr. Fone, I didn't try to run the program or anything.  iTunes prompted me that the device needed to be upgraded to 6.0.1.  I had an option to download or download and install the updated 6.0.1 from Itunes.  I clicked on download only.  So iTunes was downloading the new version from my iPod Touch.  I shut it down the Wondershare Dr. Fone, unplugged the iphone from itunes/computer, went in to settings and did a master reset.  I plugged the device back in to the computer when the iTunes logo and usb came on the screen, and the computer/iTunes doesn't recognize it anymore.  I've tried 4 different usb cables and four different comuters all with up to date iTunes software.  I did not break the port either, nothing is inside the port, or blocking it in anyway.  All 4 computers and usb cables connected fine to other ipods and iphones.
    So the questions are:
How can I get my ipod out of restore mode (iTunes logo and usb cord sybol) without iTunes recognizing it?
What could I have possibly done to this ipod?
Why doesn't anyone have the answer anywhere on the internet?
(Note:  Even if the Ipod is placed in DFU mode, iTunes does not recognize it)
    Please help!
    Yours Truly,
Me & My UnRestorable IPOD TOUCH

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.
