ITunes Restarts Automatically

With the last few releases of iTunes 7.x I've noticed that after shutting it down it will restart itself automatically. My iPod is not connected, and even if it was it is NOT set to "start iTunes automatically when connected". iTunes doesn't restart automatically every time, it just seems to bounce back about every 3rd time I shut it down, and its really annoying if I'm trying to shut down my PC and head out the door quickly! Any ideas?

Yes I 've been having the same problem! I'll quit, or press "apple-q" and within a couple of minutes it starts itself up again! This is getting so frustrating because it is slowing down my Macbook I think. I recently upgraded my iTunes to version 7.3.2 and I don't know how to solve this problem, it only started once i upgraded.

  • Itunes restart automatically when i quit it

    Hello
I'm running os x Lion 10.7.4 and iTunes last version 10.6.3 on an Imac 24" 2.8GHZ  core 2 duo (4go ram) early 2008
When i quit itunes, it restart automatically, impossible to stop it. It uses all my cpu too.
There is no message in the console output
    Please help me
    Thanks

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevents it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.

  • When i try to stop iTunes program, it restarts automatically. need to know how to make it stop.

how do i make the program stop running on desktop? it restarts automatically after i exit.

If the computer's running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and has a PowerPC CPU, that's not possible.
If the computer's running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and has an Intel CPU, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.
If the computer's running Mac OS X 10.6 or newer, run Software Update twice.

  • ITunes opens automatically on my G4 PowerMac.

I installed iTunes 7 on my PowerBook G4. Everytime I restart my PowerBook G4 running 10.4.7, iTunes automatically starts. Is this an error? I didn't set any switches for it to restart automatically and my iPod is not hooked up to the PowerBook.

    Look in System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items.
If iTunes is listed there, select it and click the minus-sign to remove it.
You can leave iTunesHelper. It does not launch iTunes at startup or login.
If the above fails and you run Dashboard at startup, an iTunes related Widget may cause iTunes to launch. Disable it and see if this helps.
After logging out and in again you can enable it again. At the next startup, the problem should no longer exist.
    hope this helps.

  • My itunes opens automatically and i quit but it opens back up again

I am on my computer and itunes opens automatically and starts playing music. I close it and quit it but it just opens right back i tried restarting my computer and everything. nothing seems to work

    This is a possible solution:
Open up Activity Monitor and search for the process genredetection.
Quit this, and iTunes should then behave properly and quietly quit when you want it to.
If the process is not running check your ~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
and disable any present to see if they are the cause.
I create a folder iTunes Plug-ins Disabled to put them in.

  • Every time I close iTunes, it automatically re-opens itself

I'm trying to install software updates on my computer, but I cannot because they require a restart- which cannot occur, because every time I quit out of iTunes, it automatically re-opens itself. Why is this happening and how do I get iTunes to stop doing this?

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference. Similarly, look for any third-party apps that may be related to iTunes, such as apps that copy "now playing" information to a web site.
Another possibility is external speakers, if you have them. Another user here found that a loose speaker connection may cause random launching and playing on iTunes. Try wiggling the speaker plug and see if that causes iTunes to launch. If so, unplugging and reconnecting the speakers may cure the problem. If not, you may have a defective speaker jack or an off-side plug on the speakers.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes reopens automatically after quiting

This problem has been happening through the last few updates. I quit (or even force quit) iTunes, and it reopens automatically. It's a real problem now because it's actually preventing me from shutting down my Mac. I have no programs running with it except for TuneUp, but iTunes will automatically restart even with TuneUp disabled. Please help me.

I have the same problem over here, it is really annoying because i cant even shut down my mac,
i had to force shutdown on the button twice, because of this problem.
Does anyone else has this problem ?

  • No sound when switching audio sources after 12.1.1.4 update. Requires iTunes restart every time.

    System Details:
    Windows 8.1 pro - 64 bit
    i5-3320M @2.6GHz
    12GB Ram
    Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430
    Issue:
Before the 12.1.1.4 iTunes update I could simply turn on my bluetooth speaker or headphones and both Windows and iTunes would automatically switch to that audio source, even mid-song. I could turn the speakers on and off multiple times and the sound would almost instantaneously switch between sources without fail. Now I have to restart iTunes to hear music after turning on my bluetooth speakers or headphones. Itunes simply stops playing music, although the pause button does not revert to the play symbol, but the track progress indicator stops moving.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

Make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime (7.6.6) installed - if this is missing or out of date there may be no audio output from iTunes (including, but not limited to, playback through Bluetooth devices) or playback may be of poor quality.
Also check iTunes' Play Audio Using setting in Edit > Preferences > Playback (you will have to restart iTunes for any changes to take effect).  In most cases selecting Direct Sound addresses playback issues when Windows Audio Session is active (though some users have reported the reverse),
If neither of these solves your problem try installing this alternate version: iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards).  The "for older video cards" label is a little misleading, as this also fixes some playback issues, QuickTime and Outlook interoperability errors, and problems with other third-party applications.

  • Disabling iTunes from automatically starting when Headphone plugged in

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite Ver 10.10.1. Whenever I plug in my Apple headphone it in, the iTunes automatically starts and I would like to disable the same. Some times its very much annoying where in, even if I am talking on FaceTime using my head phone, (I am guessing some small movements of headphone triggering this) the  iTunes starts automatically and the songs start to play during the FaceTime call.
Does any one know how to disable the iTunes from not starting up automatically, whenever a Headphone is inserted into Mac. I can start iTunes whenever I want like any other application. But I just don’t want any automatic starting of iTunes, when I plug the headphone! Appreciate any help in this regard. Thanks!

I think the following solution seems to work:
+ Go to the  - System Preferences - Users and groups //Need admin privilege and unlock to edit etc.
+ Remove iTunes from Login Items
    + Click Login Items
+ then select iTunes Helper and then the - to remove the application
+ Force quit the iTunes if it was already running
Problem did not seem to reoccur in my case. I have not restarted the mac but it seemed to work! Try yours and update please.

  • ITunes Sign In To Use This Computer / iTunes crashes / iTunes restarts

I have been having this problem on and off for a very long time now, through at least one major update of the iTunes software. I recently purchased an album from the iTunes store and the problem has returned. I've searched the forums for advice and got a lot of very weird advice. None of it helped.
The problem is: when I start my MacBook Pro (12 months old, all OS patches installed 10.7.3), iTunes 10.6 starts then request that I "Sign In To Use This Computer for Automatic Downloads." iTunes does not recognize my password; displays a slightly different dialog screen that says "Sign In Required," then back to "Sign In To Use This Computer for Automatic Downloads," which repeats and repeats then switches to the other dialog "Sign In Required," then back to "Sign In To Use This Computer for Automatic Downloads," et cetera. If you cancel out, which it accepts after hitting cancel three times, then navigate to the iTunes Store, the iTunes Store starts to load, then iTunes crashes, asks you if you want to send a report to Apple (I've personally sent at least a 100 of these already), then iTunes restarts. You can't kill it - if you force quit, it restarts immediately.
Any suggestions other than Authorizing / Deauthorizing / Deleting the SC Info Folder?

I have this same problem iMac Lion 10.7.3, iTunes 10.6.1(7). Any ideas what I can do to stop it?

  • My computer restarted automatically, and since then, Firefox refuses to load, it crashes instantly as I try to open it, I cannot access any of its options that way. What can I do?

Last night, as I was asleep, my computer restarted automatically, most likely due to an update of some sort. Usually, that is not a problem, as everything works just fine afterwards. HOWEVER, this time, it was not the case. Since it restarted, Firefox (3.6) refuses to start properly, and crashes immediately.
I can see the white page popping up for a split second before getting a message saying that it crashed, and that I should send a report. I tried looking at the help FAQs on this website, about how I should be able to get a code for that specific crash's details. The problem is, however, that my last submitted report, according to my computer, is in june 2010, and we're currently in september 2010.
I still tried to refresh after the report has been completed, but nothing. So I figured I'd try to check in the details of that latest report, but 'lo and behold, it doesn't work, even though I followed the explanations provided on this website perfectly.
I did try to restart my computer again, and even download the latest Firefox version again, and reinstall it (even though that's what I had), but to no avail. It still does the same thing.
At the moment, I am using explorer, and would very much like to be able to use Firefox again, as I have most of my bookmarks in there and usually prefer to use Firefox, although I've been having other issues with it lately. I don't think they're related to the constant crashes, but if you insist on me sharing those, then I shall do so.

Can you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

  • Disable iTunes from automatically opening when iPhone is connected

Hi, I use a windows xp comp with itunes for windows at work and whenever I just want to charge my iphone, itunes always automatically opens. I've disabled automatic syncing in edit>pref but the iPhone summary screen doesn't allow disabling "automatically open itunes when this iphone is detected" like itunes for my macbook at home has. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's such a pain to have itunes open and load everytime i'm just charging my iphone at work.

    Try this:
Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
Look for "Apple Mobile Device", right-click and "stop", then right-click "properties". Under "Startup type" choose "Disabled".
Do the reverse if you want it to work again.

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically sorting by Album Artist?  Driving me crazy.

How do I stop iTunes from automatically sorting by Album Artist?  Driving me crazy.
I listen to primarily classical music
All of my music was very deliberatley titled by composers "Last Name, First Name" as the artist.
iTunes is changing it to the Album Artist.  I have to go in and delete that information - AND THEN IT LATER REVERTS IT BACK!!!
Hours have been wasted and I am feeling so ticked.
    Any help?

    Purchased or ripped media?
If these are ripped mp3s then another possibility is multiple embedded tags. iTunes works best with a single ID3v2.3 tag. Some software creates both an ID3v1.0 and IDv2.x tag. With multiple tags it is not certain which iTunes reads or which it updates, and any device may choose differently. Once songs have the correct info. in iTunes you can use Convert ID3 Tags... None several times, then Convert ID3 Tags... v2.3. The process removes any embedded art but otherwise preserves the data that iTunes knows. You could use my script CreateFolderArt before and after to save and then restore the artwork.
In the long run you may be better off populating Album Artist properly with a copy of whatever is currently in Artist. My script CopyArtistToAlbumArtist can do this effectively.
