Itunes restored phone with old backup...

Hi.
The past two times I have synched my phone with my itunes It has seemed like it has synched absolutely fine, as it usually does, taking the usual amount of time etc. Both times I have restored it with a backup as I often do since 'other' ends up using up much of my memory If I don't restore it every now and then. When I've done the restore It's somehow restored it with a backup from January, meaning every message, photo I have taken/saved.....anything from before January has been deleted. I was super cautious after last time so when I was checking to restore from my backup I made 100% sure It was the most recent backup from today I was restoring it with.
As soon as it was all complete, I went on my phone to discover it's done the same again. I dont' know if this is a synching issue or a restore issue but I'm upset that I have lost 5 months worth of things.
Does anyone know what the issue could be?

When you clicked on restore, after restoring, you should have had the choice to restore from backup. How often do you backup the phone? If you have done another backup/sync since you restored the phone, the old backup may have been overwritten. You can connect the phone and choose restore from backup and see if there is an old backup listed. Remember if you restore to that backup, anything that was done since that time will be lost as well.

  • New iphone & new iTunes wont sync, asks restore phone with no backup option

    Hi all.
I have a brand new Toshiba and Windows 7, with a brand new iphone4 (first time I have had one). I downloaded the latest version of itunes this morning, and went to sync and back-up the two, but dramas started! The device is recognised with my number serial number and offers to upload videos, images wtc, but it wont let me sync or the like.
The error message I get is 'iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone 'iPhone'. Go to the summary tab in iPhone preferences and click restore to restore this iphone to its factory settings.
I dont want to restore as I will lose all data, as it wont allow me to perform a backup. I have been through all the recommendations provided on hte internet this morning, but have had no resolution (turn both devises off, restore iPhone), I just dont want to lose my contacts without being able to back up.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

For managing audio and video contents of the iPod and iPhone you can find some lighter and faster alternatives to iTunes. • Restored phone from old backup have i lost my new photos?

I was given a replacement iphone 4 because mine was stolen. After using the phone for a couple of weeks - and taking lots of photos on it - I plugged in my phone to my macbook in order to back up the new photos I had taken on the phone. While I was on itunes I was asked if I wanted to restore my old phone settings and install new software, and i said yes. It asked me if i wanted to carry on with this while the phone was synching with the computer and i said yes.
But then I saw photos from my OLD phone on my phone and also loading onto iphoto, with the computer asking if I wanted to download them.
I then couldn't find my NEW photos on my phone or on iphoto.
Have I lost the new photos?
I went into 'finder' on my computer, found 'backup; and can see hundreds of files, with the time that I was restoring my phone at same time as i was installing new software -
Are these files my new photos?
And how can i open them?
    Thank you!

yes, you have.  Restoring your phone from the other backup wiped out any previous data you had on your phone.  Since you never backed up before, there's no way to get any of those data back.

  • Syncing new phone with old backup

i had an iphone 3g, which i lost two days ago. luckily its insured, and i am eligible for an upgrade as i'm out of contract, so i will soon have a nice shiny iphone 4g.
my phone company (O2) say i will be able to have my old phone number, but obviously i'll be using a new microsim, as the sim from my old phone was lost with it.
my question is, when i plug my new iphone 4g into my mac, will i have to start from scratch, or can i use the backup of my old 3g to set it up?
    thanks in advance
    paul

I had some random issues syncing my new iPhone 4 with my 3G back-up. It wasn't the most recent back-up since when I backed it up right before I plugged in the 4, it hung up and didn't save anything (I always had issues syncing the 3G to my MacBook- no clue why). Didn't save my application or their configurations. Plus there are a lot of new upgrades on the 4 that weren't available on the 3G (especially since I didn't upgrade to the newest software). I basically went through and re-setup everything and it was much better than the back-up, although I did have to re-download some apps. Not a big deal. The 4 syncs and updates seamlessly and apparently now so does the 3G (gave it to my dad who restored it and uses it now, on a PC though).
    Good Luck!

I have music loaded from cd's. They were intact after each sync. After a iTune upgrade, I lost all the music at sync. Can I restore them from old backup in iCloud ?

Unless you'd signed up to iTunes Match then they won't be in the Cloud, only music purchased from iTunes (if you are in a country where music can be re-downloaded) will be there. Have you not still got it on your computer and/or on a backup which you can use to sync it back to the iPad ?

I thought all my contacts were saved in iTunes, never had this problem before. Besides manually restoring them myself, is there any other way to retrive them?

  • I updated my ipod and it deleted my entire library how do I restore it with the backup I have saved?

I updated my ipod and it deleted my entire library.  How do I restore it with the backup I have so all songs will be available in the cloud; which I paid extra Money to increase memory for?

The backup that iTunes makes does not include apps, music, synced videos and photos. Se:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
You will have to sync the items back form yur computer/iTunes library to the iPod via iTunes. If they are not on the computer you can redownloa d some iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

my iphone 5 has restored to an old backup after updating to ios 7 is there any way of getting my stuff back as this has now become the most recent back up?
also since the update it keeps resetting itself? i had a lot of stuff on there that i really wanted and alot of important info lost? please help!!

You might be able to remove the recent backup from the backups folder and the old one should be usable at that point
USE EXTREAME CAUTION WHEN ACCESS THE FILES AND DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Note: The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your home folder, Option-click the Go menu.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

    1. this is a new iPhone bla bla or...
    2. restore from a old copy. (strange is that it says that this was done 1982 all the time?!?!).
The MacBook Pro is new and I have the latest iTunes 11.0.1. (12)
    Glad for any help!!
    Best regards
    Pontus

Maybe you should have connected as a new phone instead of trying to put an iPhone 4 backup on an iPhone 5.
Try restoring it to factory setings and start again. If all your music and contact s are on the computer then you should be good to go.

  • When I connect my iphone to itunes, the only options that are available are to set up as a new iphone or restore from an old backup, and I want to do neither of those

Hi, whenever I plug my phone into iTunes, the phone interface pops up and I am given only two options: restore the phone from an old backup, or set the phone up as a new phone.  I want to do neither of these things because the phone doesn't need to be restored, and it was set up when I first bought it a couple months ago.  Help???

Apparently it does need to be restored because that is what it is requesting. You will need to restore it as New or from a recent backup if you made one.

  • If I reset my iphone5, can I restore it with a backup from an iphone4 using itunes?

I got a new iPhone 5 today and the salesperson advised me to sync my old iPhone 4 before connecting the new phone. I synced it but didn't back it up, and had not backed up for several months.
My new iPhone then only had the information from that back up. So I disconnected it and backed up my old phone and then connected the new phone and tried to restore it from the backup, but it didn't seem to recognise that I wanted it to restore from the other phone's backup and still only includes that old information and none of my new apps.
Can someone please advise what my best course of action would be? If I restore the new phone, can I somehow make it understand that I want to restore from the old phone's backup?

Start over. Make sure you have the most recent backup form old iPhone.
iPhone 5: Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
Note: Only apps data is in the backup, apps can be sync using iTunes or redownload.
