ITunes reverting to old library after system crash
I just started my itunes after my computer crashed, and it has reverted back to an old library from 2010.
I've tried holding shift and opening itunes to select what library file (.itl) it uses, and even when I select the most recent one, which is dated yesterday, it still only loads the music that I added sometime in 2010.
All of the music and apps I have added since then (which is a lot!) are still in my itunes Media > Music folder, yet they are not showing up when I open itunes. This goes for both music/apps I have purchased from itunes, and music I have added.
Can anyone help me?! I don't want to have go through and add two years of music and apps again!
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Itunes reverted to old library
When I opened my itunes folder today, most of my music was gone. I had had a library of around 1100 songs, but this library only has 357. All my playlists are gone, too. After looking closely at this library I realized that it was my library as it looked around the end of 2005. I also lost all my playlists and play count, which I guess is not as important as the music all being there in the first place.
All of the hundreds of songs I have added since then are still here on my computer, in a folder (my music > itunes > itunes music, and then folders for each artist), but I can't access them through itunes unless I want to go through one by one and open each song individually to itunes. And even if I take the time to do that, what if this happens again?
But:
Why has this happened?
How can I undo it?
Is there a way to restore it all without going and individually opening each song back to itunes?
What do I do if it happens again?
It probably has something to do with the fact that as of a week or so ago, the media files on my computer have become/begun to be entered at realplayer files, as opposed to whatever they were before. Is this a virus? Is this a big problem? And again, how do I fix it?
I really hope I've been clear about this problem; I'm finding it a bit difficult to explain. Help, please!
Windows XPThanks for the reply, but this doesn't solve my problem. The actual music files are still in my computer, but the library information that iTunes has is not up to date with files that I have added after July 2007.
I'd like a way to retrieve the library information, not the actual files. -
ITunes not recognizing previous library after System Recovery
Hi - My computer was recently infected with some very nasty malware and the only sure way to clear it was to perform a complete wipe and restore to factory settings. I have always kept my iTunes music folder on an external drive so I assumed the files would be safe.
Once the system was reset and secure, I downloaded iTunes. When I 1st clicked on it, iTunes searched my computer for music and found only the few files that come with Microsoft Media Player because I had not yet connected my external drive. Tonight I plugged in the drive with all my music and changed the location of my iTunes Music Folder to its previous location on the external drive under the Advanced tab in Preferences, but iTunes isn't recognizing my original library.
I checked the Help in iTunes and tried connecting my iPod to see if that would trigger recognition of my library. Instead, it said my iPod was synched to another library and gave me the option of wiping it and synching with the (now empty) new library or only synching purchases from the iPod to the new library. Since my iPod is only synched with a fraction of my files, it seemed like this still would get me nowhere so I exited without doing anything.
So, how can I get my original library back? All of the files are right there on the drive. I should note that I also have an iPhone 3G which hasn't been synched since my PC was 1st infected 4 weeks ago. Should I uninstall iTunes and dowload it again now that my external drive containing all the files is connected? Thanks in advance for your help with this. - ScottI haven't made any headway on my specific problem, but have seen many other posts on moving libraries from one PC to another or saving them to external drives before a reformat. I should add that the nature of the infection on PC was so severe that it was feared it would jump to (and then hide) in any external hard drive or flash drive so it could then re-infect any clean system. Because of this, I was unable to copy the original .itl file from my C drive before it was wiped. So, what I have now is the external drive which was the location of my iTunes Music folder as well as my iPhone Photo Cache and iPhone photos. I have a 40 gig iPod with all of my original playlists and a portion of my music (I only synched certain songs to manage space). I also have my iPhone 3G with a few of those same playlists as well as my applications. SO, the question is, can I rebuild my library from what I've got? If so, how? I've been searching for answers, but none seem to approximate my problem so any help is appreciated. Thanks - Scott

Updating old(er) iPhoto library without system crashing
Hello, my old iMac was recently stolen and I would now like to recover my iPhoto library.
So I've imported it from Time Machine.
But when I try to open iPhoto, the systems needs to update the old library and then crashes.

Please help: fail to recover after system crash
Hi all,
I tried to start our directory server after system crash due to hardware failure. Error log shows:
[17/Apr/2010:01:35:15 +0800] - WARNING<20488> - Backend Database - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Detected Disorderly Shutdown last time Directory Server was running, recovering database.
However, the recover process seems never ends (I waited overnight...). While CPU usage of ns-slapd grows continuously, the server has no response (e.g. ldapsearch waits forever). I make copies of db before starting ns-slapd and thus I tried several attempts:
1. start as it is.
2. remove db/log* and start
3. remove db/log* and db/__db* and start
4. remove db/* except db/NetscapeRoot and start
All attempts have the same result - recovery goes on continuously.
Then I tried to remove db/* and run restoreconfig with an old configuration backup. Then ns-slapd can be started. However, when I do ldapsearch testing:
ldapsearch -h localhost -v -D"cn=directory manager" -b "" -s base objectclass= namingContexts
ldap_init( localhost, 389 )
Bind Password:
ldap_simple_bind_s: Invalid credentials
I'm sure the password is correct, and also tried modifying nsslapd-rootpw in config/dse.ldif and corresponding userPassword in configuration file created by saveconfig before restoreconfig.
Again, all attempts have the same result - invalid credentials. I can see BIND cn=directory manager attempts in logs/access, but also see following line in logs/errors:
[17/Apr/2010:21:59:08 +0800] - INFORMATION - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - get_entry: entry cn=directory manager not found (error 32)
I'd like to know:
* if there any other method to make recovery process complete successfully?
* if there is anything missed/wrong in the restoreconfig process?
I tried several days but can't make it. Would anyone please help?
Sorry that we're still using old versions 5.2 patch 5 on Solaris 5.9 on v440 machines...

Workflow continue after system crash.
Dear Workflow expert,
I have customized the standard leave request workflow to a 2 level approval workflow. However, sometimes the workflow will suddenly stop without any error and I need to go to tcode SWPC (execute workflow after system crash) to continue the workflow.
Anyone can tell me in what circumstances that the workflow will fall into this category, because it like happens quite frequently.

? How to recover APPS from iTunes after system crash
I think we need a sticky for this.
Is there a tutorial or instructions to recover ALL your iPhone/iPod Touch apps from your PC or iTunes after a system crash and iTunes is no longer accessible even after uninstall and reinstallation? I heard one can call Apple Support and have them do a one time reset but for people like me who have more than one iTunes account that may be a problem since it would require several accounts.Ok....i have some good news, I believe. Using King_Penguin's link and Apple's KB seems to have worked. I tried this under another windows profile on the same machine. The TRICK is to hold down CTRL W when opening up iTunes. This will prompt you to tell iTunes where the library is. The key is to copy everything from your My MUSIC\ITUNES folder. More info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
What is throwing me off is there is another option to, "Create LIBRARY". Not sure how that works. But the instructions are here: When you need to restore your backed up iTunes Library from your external hard drive to your computer, follow these steps:
1.Quit iTunes.
2.Locate your external hard drive.
Mac: On the Desktop or Finder sidebar.
Windows: In My Computer
3.Drag the iTunes folder (backed up earlier) from your external hard drive to whatever location you desire on your internal hard drive. It is recommended that you choose the default location for the iTunes folder, which is:

ITunes uses old library after OS X Yosemite upgrade
Hi there. In the last couple of days I reorganized my iTunes. Deleted songs, genres, renamed them etc. Today, I upgraded to Yosemite OS. The new iTunes switched to a library that hasn't got the changes I made. So it's an old library, not the newest one I had on Mavericks. I tried to restore via Time Machine (the .itl-file), and when I open iTunes it looks fine, but after a second it starts refreshing the library and the old one is there again. :-( Any ideas?
Thank you very much for responding! That seems like the logical thing to do - and I did it. But it's the same as before: At first, the new Library is shown, and then a popup-window appears and the library is "aktualisiert" in German, meaning updated, and after that it's the old one again... :-(

HT1473 New itunes won't recognise old library after reinstalling on new hard drive.
I had to reinstall itunes when hard drive was replaced.
itunes library is on separate drive.
How do I get the newly installed itunes to recognise the library without having to manually add 50,000 files?This is on a windows PC with Vista OS.

Problems Accessing Photos After System Crash
Hi,
Last night my system inexplicably crashed after working fine all day. I called Applecare, and they told me to clear everything and start from scratch. I had just used backup the night before so everything came over fine. I'm just having problems with my photos.
How I noticed my system crashed was that my iPhoto library disappeared, and when I went to open the files manually, they would not open either, saying they were corrupt. I went to DiskUtility and it wouldn't fix it either, so that's how I had to reboot everything from my backup drive.
So I open iPhoto and the pictures seem to be there, but they are "squished." When I click on them to open, the edit screen is blank. My albums also did not survive the reinstall (even though my playlists from iTunes did). I went to open some photos directly from my "iPhoto Library" folder, and they open fine in Preview. So I thought I would trash all the fake pics currently in iPhoto and import the good ones over. When I try to do that, it says the photos are unreadable or corrupt, but they work fine in Preview! (which they did not last night before I reinstalled post-crash).
Please help me save my 4000 photos!It may not be a 'glitch' in the actual update so much as it could be that the update did not go through correctly.
Restoring the device as suggested is the best way to isolate exactly where the issue lies.
You can start with a first step of attempting a Hard Reset (Home Button + Sleep/Wake Button for 5-10s), however if this does not rectify the issue the next step is to attempt a Restore or alternatively force an update again of the device. -
ITunes V6.0.0.18 - Total system crash whole importing CDs
Since installing V6.0.0.18 system crashes when importing CD. When I say crash I mean total system crash and automatic re-boot. The hard disk check reports truncated files in iTunes library (no surprise there the PC just crashed). When this happens is very variable sometimes at the start of a CD import sometimes on the last track and occasionally the import goes fine.
There is nothing wrong with my PC or CD/DVD drive, it has run happily with every other version of iTunes from V4.x onwards and continues to be very stable with the exception of this import problem

How to Recover a running composites after system crash?
The Weblogic server has unexpected restart while some long-time composites were running.
After Weblogic started again, those composites had state "Running". But nothing changes. They never neither finish neither fault.

File restore after system crash?
I recorded several videos on my iPhone yesterday. One was 28 minutes long (almost 3 GB) so I deleted them from my phone as soon as I copied it into iPhoto. I was viewing the videos in iPhoto when my system crashed. After rebooting, the movies were gone.
Is there any way these movies can be recovered? They've got to be on the hard drive somewhere.Try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't write anything else to the drive until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

It is a hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external drive situation.
I now fire up iTunes on the MBP, in the Advanced Pref I point the iTunes Media folder location to the new external HD: /Volumes/iTune New/iTunes.

But it really looks like you messed up something.
In the iTunes folder you seem to have all your music folders.
Your iTunes folder should have only these items...
