ITunes running, but hidden. Why?

I have no idea what has happened to my iTunes. For years it's been fine, and it's completely updated and been working great. All of a sudden one day while it was running, it disappeared from view. It did not crash however, as my "Last.fm" scrobbling was still reading the songs it was playing. When I hit Control Alt Delete, iTunes.exe shows in my processes, but it does not show in my applications. My iPod hooks up to iTunes also, but it still does not show the actual program.
So, in short, my iTunes will open and run, but I can't see it no matter what I do. What should I do? Thanks for your help in advance.

This sounds like an odd one. It doesn't sound quite like the normal silent launch failure in which iTunes hangs at start up and shows up on the processes tab but not he application tab.
In that case iTunes doesn't function, but you say your itunes is actually running and doing stuff although you can't see it. Can you hear it playing a track? I wasn't clear if your iPod would sync.
Does you Qucitime work open and work normally?
Anyway as a first step try opening itunes in another account. Does it work there?

If iTunes works in another account, the first thing to try would be deleting the preference files, which is covered in the article.

I got a new iTouch today, and installed the latest version of iTunes so I could set it up. The install finished, but iTunes didn't open. I clicked on it from my desktop, and still nothing. I opened Task Manager, and it wasn't show in the Applications tab, but it was in the Processes tab. I ended it, and tried to run iTunes again but the same thing happened. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, and still the same thing is happening. I don't know what to do anymore. I can't use the iPod if I can't get on iTunes.. it's just a paperweight. Does anyone have any idea?

apple tab shows program is running but no gui will show itself... must force quit every time... tried chucking library and .pkg's and .xml's and then reinstalling but no dice... still goofy...
quite frustrated...

ITunes running but not showing up

Hi!
So I did finally get my iTunes to work
I had to restart after doing the Windows update
and now my iTunes won't work again.
I opened the task manager and it is a processes that appears to be running (iTunes.exe)
Also, when I restart or log off, iTunes opens just for a second before it logs me off windows.
It's like it's running in the background and I can't access it or something.
Please help me!

When I disabled all the non-Microsoft services, it worked!
However, I tried adding one back, and it didn't work.
So I added the others back, and left the one I thought was causing the problem unchecked, but I still have the same problem.
Could anyone tell me if these are necessary?

- Sony SPTI Service
- Trend NT Realtime Service

ITunes runs but won't play music anymore

Since upgrading to 6.0.2 audio files no longer play at all (I don't hear any audio and the diamond in the progress bar does not move) in iTunes for Windows. I'll hit the PLAY button and it changes color, acknowledging I clicked on it, but it won't play. I've uninstalled, and reinstalled but the problem remains. I followed the help article that mentions compatability mode but it was useless. Does anyone have any suggestions or have seen this before?

Just one word of caution--in another thread a previous poster said your have to install standalone Quicktime 7.0.3 instead of the current version 7.0.4. I don't know if this is true--maybe you could search the forums for more posts on this subject. Or, if someone knows for sure they can add their 2 cents.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

The iPod is brand new, sent to me by Apple as part of the 1st gen replacement programme. I've been using the cable that came with the 1st gen iPod (I bought the first gen second hand) It always worked on my computer with the 1st gen iPod. So I was wondering, do you think I need to replace my cable in order for my PC to recognize my iPod or is it something else?

Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.

ITunes runs okay after fresh install, but freezes when I go to the store, or automatic download begins

I posted the other evening about installing iTunes and then using a Library on a drive other than 'C.' I got this to work, used the old library file, iTunes creates a new one, freezes for a bit, and everything in those folders displays fine. Once iTunes starts to download two recent purchases, the program freezes. The downloads come in fine, but it takes hours before it shuts down by itself after clicking the exit button. Tonight I start it again. Everything is fine until I try to enter the store. The program freezes. Also, purchases in the cloud do not display, which may be due to the old library. I've never had any issues with iTunes in the many years I've been using it. Do I need to simply reinstall, create a NEW library on the separate drive, and then migrate existing material to the newly-created library? How do I get my purchases in the cloud (TV, Film, since all of my music is on the drive) to display so I can download them at will? I'm completely at a loss. ITunes used to be a lot easier to manage. I used to have libraries split between drives with no problem. I realize I've listed several broad problems here, so if I need to work through them one at a time, please tell me where to begin, or which specific info is needed to help you wiser folks help get my iTunes running once more.

So I just learned that Apple now charges you for support to use their software if you're not a MAC user, but they still want me to purchase from their store, which I cannot use because the software is bugging out. Sense when did Apple become Microsoft? This is partly the reason I stopped buying pre-fab PCs, and just use their OS because I have to have it for work. I'd switch to Linux in a second if I could use my work-related software and had a player that could play iTunes proprietary content, since I've spent an obscene amount of income with them since 2005. I was hoping someone would stop by and give a hint of a solution, but I guess I'll figure it out on my own like I have to do when software designed for MS goes buggy. Well no, not from my experience. Last night, with a balance of about $42 in the iTunes store (several gift cards this summer) I purchased a 4.99 app - credit card was charged, not the balance in the iTunes store.

I have different libraries on each machine which I need to sync with the iPhone, both in iTunes. It seems to be workiing fine on the Windows 7 machine, but not even reconizing the device at all in iTunes on Windows XP.

Hi turingtest2 - thanks for the reply. As you say It is how it is - and I have three workstations in this home (not counting three for my children and one for the family) and I pretty much always have more than one OS on each - that's how it is for me. I shouldn't have to worry about how many OSs I have (or how often I change them) just to have music while I'm working - through the PC sound system that is. I never have to worry about any other software, only iTunes. Once in a while (in the past) I've made a vendor call if I changed to many things to often (like CPU, GPU, memory, etc - or even a replacement MB) - but that hasn't happened in a couple years (at least since Vista) so I think (hope) they have fixed that for good. And even then it was a quick call and problem resolved. The only (glaring) constant problem is iTunes - limiting my own use of my own music (by counting an OS as a physical PC). Even with VM (which is just another OS) - although you can Attach things to multiple active OSs - it's still your own (purchased) music - and all on one PC. Thanks again!

Mov is a container format, you'd need to look at the codec used by the movie file inside the container to know whether it will work with the Apple TV or not.

Here's what I'd do, go back to the Apple store, take the phone & computer. Ask the geniuses how to fix this since they replaced the phone. You never know, they may just update the computer for free...its happened before...can't gurantee it will happen for you, but worth a try.
Otherwise, you're looking at purchasing a retail copy of Leopard, however if her computer can handle Snow Leopard you can purchase the $29 upgrade disk & install a full copy of SL.
