Itunes saying that my ipod is full when it is empty

Alright, so let me give you the backstory to this. First off, I have the 4G 20-gig IPod Photo that I bought in January of this year.
So about a week ago, my Ipod started glitching, namely pausing for about ten seconds whenever a song that had album artwork came on (roughly half of my library has artwork). It would play about the first second of a song and not show the artwork, and then pause for about ten seconds. During these ten seconds, the Ipod wouldn't respond at all and then everything would be back to normal. The funny thing about this was that this only occured when I skipped ahead to a song, so if I was listening to an album with artwork all the way through there would be no problems, but if I skipped a song it would freeze. The other funny thing was that this happened only with songs that had album art. Songs that didn't have album art worked fine with no problems.
I decided that I would just take all of the album art off the Ipod next time I put it in Itunes, no biggie. But when I put it in the computer, the Ipod was only recognized by the computer as a harddrive and not Itunes itself. I could charge it but not update it. I looked up the forums and did everything to no avail..put it in disk mode, reset it, restarted the computer, reinstalled Itunes, etc....It had a message saying that I needed to reformat my Ipod with the Ipod Updater, so I restored it back to factory conditions and after two tries, it was now recognized by Itunes.
But now there's a new problem.
Although when I go to my Ipod it says that it is empty, when I look at my Ipod in Itunes, it says that it has 18.5 G's of music on it, what it had before all of this happened. I cannot see any of this music when I look at my Ipod, and I cannot see any of this music when I look at my Ipod through Itunes (it just states that it has 18.5 G's of music on it). I looked at the Ipod through My Computer and it also said that it had 18.5 Gs occupied on it.
So after all of this frustration, I'm not sure how to handle this. Any suggestions?

If your iPod is recognized in "my computer", changing the drive letter can sometimes resolve this issue.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
All media content will be erased during the first sync, but you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.

  • ITunes says that my iPod cannot be synced because I'm out of space, but the capacity display at the bottom shows I have plenty of space.

This image shows what's wrong. iTunes says that I need 1.74 GB more to sync, but the display at the bottom clearly shows that this isn't the case; it's the breakdown of storage on my iPod after a sync. What can I do?

  • TS1363 My Itunes says that my Ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored but then it doesn't restore because of an error 1600! What do I do?

    Help me please!

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • ITunes says that my iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Says to install 64-bit version.  Problem is 64-bit version is installed already.

I have a 64 GB iPod operating on iOS 5.1.1 (says software is up to date).  I finally was able to download iTunes 64 Bit to my computer and open it.  Now when I connect my iPod to the computer, I get a message saying "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Tun the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."    I have removed iTunes from my computer and downloaded the 64-bit version again and installed it.  I still get the same message.

    Hi antiklady,
I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:
iTunes: How to find which version you are using - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201521
If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. Then, uninstall the version that is incompatible using these steps:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

  • My itunes erroneously says that my ipod is synced with another computer when I try to sync. What can I do to fix this?

First, right after updating my iTunes to the latest version, my iTunes will not display album covers. It says exactly "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer." It has never been an issue before, but, anyway... that is where it all started.
Then I read a bunch of Apple Support topics on the subject, and it directed me to replace my library file with a previous library file. So, I did, and now, not only will my albums not display, but my iPod Touch will not sync with my computer, the only computer I have ever used it on. It says that the ipod is synced with another library and asks me if I want to erase and sync (I have my music on my computer, but I will lose all of my apps and such).
What can I do to resolve this? Thanks for the help.
