Itunes says 2 computers authorized but only have 1 computer...!

Hi if anyone can tell me how to only have 1 computer authorized.
Recently my computer died and after alot of hard work I have finally got it up and running again, had to reinstall all of my programs including Itunes and download the playlists from the Ipod now I want to sync but it tells me that it is authorised to 2 computers (which is the same one!!!!)
Aparently you can only be sync with one Itunes Library at a time, I am only using this one.
and it's asking me if I want to erase and sync or transfer items purchased.
Any Ideas???
I just want it to recognise this Ipod and not erase anything.

You seem to be mixing up two different things, authorisations and linking an iPod with a library.
1) iTunes Store authorisations
If your system crashes or you reinstall your operating system without deauthorising iTunes first, even a single computer can use up your limit of 5 authorisations. You can't deauthorise a "dead" installation on it's own. However once you reach your limit of 5 you have the option to deauthorise them all in one go from your iTunes Store account and start over again. Just note that you can only use this option once a year: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
2) Syncing an iPod with an iTunes Library
If an iPod set to update automatically and you connect to a new computer or new library (made after you lost the original one) you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc. If you have rebuilt your library and everything that is on the iPod is also in iTunes pressing "Erase and Sync" will reload and relink the iPod to iTunes. If the iPod has content on it that isn't in iTunes press "Cancel".

Hi Deb,
Deauthorizing all is definitely the way to go. You will just need to authorize your computer again after, as well as your husband's.

The memory that Quickbooks is referring to is the space available on your hard drive.
Are you saying that you have 5GB of RAM memory? or 5GB of free hard drive space?
It would help to know your product number so I can look at your specifications. Here are the steps to find your product number.

iTunes says I have 2 computers authorized (iPod Touch and MacBook Pro). However, until recently, I had 3 computers authorized but my iMac mysteriously disappeared from the list a few days ago. When I try to authorize my iMac, iTune says it's already authorized. Why did my iMac computer disappear from the list and how do I get it back on the list so I can continue to update Apps, etc, on my iMac?

Even though my iMac wasn't appearing in the authorized computer list, I tried to de-authorize it and this evening it worked. It actually de-authorized the computer. Yesterday I tried this same step and iTunes didn't allow me to de-authorize. After I de-authorized, I authorized the iMac. However, the iMac still wasn't appearing in the authorized computer list. I logged out of iTunes.
As a last resort, I decided to play a t.v. movie I had purchased on this computer using my one an only iTunes account. After I played a couple of minutes of the movie, I stopped it and logged into my iTunes account.
Hurray, finally my iMac is appearing in the authorized computer list and I'm able to update my purchased apps on my iMac.

Make sure that yo have the boxed chanced to only sync the checked music. It appears that it is trying to sync ore than those.
You can try unsycing all music and resyncing.

Some of my songs in iTunes show up but they won't play. I get the message that my computer isn't authorized to play them when I only have one computer.

I recently did the update for iTunes and after I did that I got the error message: MSVCR80.dll file not found. I followed the suggestions from someone in this community to fix it and now some of my songs aren't playing. It sounds like you have some songs in your library that are not playing, and when you try to play them you are being told the computer is not authorized to play them. I would start by verifying that your computer is still authorized, and take note of the Apple ID that you sign in with:
To authorize a computer, follow these steps:
Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
You may need to show the menu bar to see this option in Windows. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can access this option from the Advanced menu.
Enter your Apple ID and click Authorize.
If your Apple ID uses an expired MobileMe account, you can still authorize your computer.

Open iTunes
Highlight one of the items you have purchased (You can find your purchases in your Purchases playlist).
Choose File > Get Info.
Click the Summary tab.
The Account Name area will list the account used to purchase the item. Unless you have changed accounts, this is your iTunes Store account name.
If it is the same Apple ID then I would next delete the song, and re download it from your purchased history, with this article named:

You can only authorise the songs you purchase from the iTunes Store to play on five computers.
You can download and install iTunes (the iTunes programme) onto as many computers as you wish.
Two different things.
Assuming therefore, that your problem is that you have authorised five computers, but now no longer have some of them, you need to de-authorise all your computers and then re-authorise the computers you still have.
To de-authorise your computers, go to your account in the iTunes Store and look for the Deauthorise All button.

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.

Once you've authorized a computer it is authorized forever untill you "unauthorize" it. So if you have had a computer and gotten rid of it, or authorized a friends computer to use for awhile, or anything else then you've authorized computers up to your limit.

But you'll have to use your Apple ID to sync bought media to her device. Disable all other things you don't want to sync like photos, contacts, etc.
