ITunes says Apple ID password is incorrect, but I havent changed it and I know it is correct !!

I have been using my iTunes account for several years, and I have had the same password for a long time now, which works fine, until this weekend that is.  When I went to iTunes at the weekend to purchase something, it asked me for my Apple ID password, which I submitted.  It then kept telling me this was wrong, until it eventually blocked me.  I am 100% my password was correct, and lower/upper caps were also correct.
Now though, exactly the same thing has happened to my partner, on a completely seperate computer and iTunes account !  Help !  What has gone on here ?

Odds are that someone has hacked your Gmail account and changed the password on you.
