ITunes says everything will be deleted if I sync to the computer I have used since I've had my phone!

I ran out of space on my computer so I moved my itunes files to a hard drive which is always connected. When i went back into itunes everything had been deleted from it, so i put all my files back on. However when i went to sync my phone to the itunes it says that if i continue to sync everything will be deleted off my phone. It is on the same computer and everything but when i moved files it must have deleted the original itunes. Is there anyway to connect my phone without it deleting everything? I have a few people and a lot of devices that are synced and we don't want to lose all our stuff! HELP!

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> to something like X:\iTunes where X:\ is the driver letter of the external drive. If so press and hold down SHIFT as you launch iTunes, click Choose from the dialog that pops up and open X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.

  • Try to sink my ipod but itunes says everything will be erased

I'm trying to sync up my ipod touch to itunes to transfer all the music/photos ect. ect. over to my new (current) computer. My other computer was stolen unfortunately and everything was stored on that computer with itunes. When I hit "sync music" it says, and I quote, "Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing songs and playlists on the iPod 'iPod touch' will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library."   I have nothing in my library though so I hit cancel, but have no way to get my music to itunes now :/ any help would be greatly appreciated

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software available to assist you with this task.

Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

If you do happen to lose any purchased content, you can always redownload it from the iTunes Store again at no cost via iCloud.  See this article for information.

  • How to I get my Mac to stop deleting the pictures off of my phone that I sync to the computer?

When I first uploaded pictures to my Mac from my iPhone, it asked me if I wanted it to delete the pictures off of my phone as they uploaded, and I said yes. Now, every time I upload pictures, all the pictures from my phone get deleted as they sync onto the computer. I cannot figure out how to stop this and IPhoto does not give me the option to change it. I want to be able to sync the photos to my computer without them being deleted from my phonee. Can anyone help me?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • HT1414 If i back up my phone due to the wifi option being grayed out it says to connect to itunes and reset my phone but everything will get deleted that wont happen if everything is in my icloud account correct

If i back up my phone due to the wifi option being grayed out it says to connect to itunes and reset my phone but everything will get deleted that wont happen if everything is in my icloud account correct

If Wi-Fi is greyed out, it is not possible to backup to iCloud.
If the device is backed up to iTunes and contacts, calendars, notes, etc are synced to a supported application or cloud service, and media and pictures are on the computer, then a restore will not cause any data to be lost.

My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues.

  • Sync from iTunes says everything OK but no content appears in the iPod :-((

I think everything's up to date on my Mac:
    - iTunes 8.1 (50)
    - iPod nano 8 Go 4th gen with software 1.1.3
    And now my problem.
When I connect the iPod to the Mac, iTunes recognizes it no pb. I can sync content (manualy or auto): from inside iTunes, all is ok. Music appears as music, videos as videos, etc.
After ejecting the iPod, I've got no music no video… nothing but the "other" category pretending to store anything I've synced.
If I connect the iPod back to the Mac, the sync process starts again. iTunes says everything's ok. After having ejected the iPod, I see no more music nor video. But the "other" category has doubled in size!!!
I've tried to restore initial settings many times with iTunes and got the same result each time.
I've even formatted the iPod with Disk Utility then reinstalled the 1.1.3 soft through iTunes. And the whole thing runs the same way.
    Any suggestion or workaround?

If the content is in your media folder, which it should be, you have will lost any ratings, playcounts or playlist changes you've made since the backup database was created, but not the media itself. All your newly added media can imported to the library with File, Add Folder to Library, <Media Folder>.
If for some reason content has really been lost from the computer it may be possible to recover it using the tips in Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device as given in the original linked post.

Was your iPod associated with a different mac or pc previously is all. And was it backed up or sync'd on this mac with iTunes previously.

  • HT4859 when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer?

when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer? Please help me and answer either or both question detailed thanks

Normally when you sync your device it is automatically backed up to your computer as the first step in the sync process.  When you choose to start backing up your device to iCloud, iTunes stops automatically backing it up on your computer when you sync.  That's what the message is telling your; that you are now backing up to iCloud and not to your computer each time you sync.  You can still manually back up to your computer any time you want by going to the Summary tab and clicking on Back Up Now under Manually Back Up and Restore.
You can still sync your device as you did before, it just will no longer back up automatically when you do.

  • HT4972 When trying to update to 5.1.1 it tells me to do it on the computer i initially used with this ipod 4th g.  This is the computer i used initially.  It says i will loose all my music and i don't want to do that.  HELP, Ashley.

I can't seem to get my ipod 4g to recognize that this computer is the computer i initially used to start this brand new.  It tells me i will loose all my music.  Help please, I guess I'm just stupid!

    If necessary:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party progrtam like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
--- When everything is on your computer, connect the iPod to your computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
--- Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.
Sometimes a computer glitch causes the iPod to see the iTunes library as a new one.

  • This an IPOD I bought used.  Everything else works fine.  It syncs to my computer and plays my music but will not connect to the USB interface in my car. My wife's IPOD, which seems to be identical, works fine.  Any ideas?

Then my last suggestion is to Reset it, while connected to the BMW Audio.
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

My iPhone 4S will not sync with the music I have selected in iTunes.  Has anyone else had this issue and what is the best way to fix it.

    Hi,
    Setting up syncing
Before setting up syncing you should download and install the latest version of iTunes. Wi-Fi syncing requires iTunes 10.5 or later and iOS 5 or later. You can change your sync options at any time. Each time you sync, content is synced between your iOS device and computer to reflect new, updated, or deleted content.
    USB syncing
    Open iTunes.
Connect the iOS device to your computer using the included USB cable and select it in iTunes under Devices on the left-hand side. Some tabs may not appear if you do not have corresponding content in your library. For example if you do not have any podcasts in your library, the corresponding Podcast tab will not appear.
Click Apply, in the lower-right corner of the screen, to sync.
    Wi-Fi syncing
    Open iTunes
To set up Wi-Fi syncing, connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable. Select your device under Devices on the left-hand side.
In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi".
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when all of the following are true:
The iOS device is plugged in to power
iTunes is open on the computer
The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network
While the iOS device appears in the left-hand column of iTunes, you can select the content tabs and configure sync options.
Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.
    Hope this helps
