ITunes says I don't have the authority

I'm trying to install iTunes 9 on to my computer right now, but it's telling me that I need to login as an administrator first before I can make changes that effect every user. There is only one account on my computer, it's an administrative account, and I'm currently logged in to it. Can anyone tell me of a fix for this?

I assume you have downloaded the installer and saved it on your PC.
Have you tried right clicking on the installer and choosing run as administrator?

  • ITunes says I don't have the required software to communicate with an ipod

Every time I start iTunes I get the following error message:
The software required for this iPod [nano 7, firmware version 1.0.3] is not installed correctly.
Please reinstall iTunes to install the required software.
I have reinstalled iTunes about ten times, with elevated privileges, both in normal mode and safe mode, and under the administrator account.  Itunes says it was successfully installed, but it obviously wasn't since I still get the same error message after each installation.  I also tried repairing iTunes and rolling back iTunes but all with no success.  I have also tried uninstalling all apple related programs and services from my computer (bonjour, icloud, itunes, quicktime, AppleMobileDevice service, iPod folder from the programs folder, the apple directory in the temp folder).  I have also used 7-zip to open the package and tried to only run the iTunes installer, which didn't work any better.  I have checked to make sure the AppleMobileDevice service is running and it is set to automatically start with windows (bonjour service is also configured to start automatically).  And yes I have verified that they are both running.  I have also reset my ipod settings, as well as starting iTunes while holding control+ shift.  Windows recognizes that my ipod is attached and has installed the drivers successfully.  I am running Windows 7 home premium, 64-bit and I am trying to install iTunes 12.0.1.
    Any other ideas or suggestions?

  • I cleaned my computer lately and it won't let me open iTunes, saying I don't have the correct permissions, so I backed my iTunes files up and deleted it. Now when I try to install the free download it says 'The installer encountered an error...

The installer for iTunes free download says when installing "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail." I have been to the help page and run Disk Utility (not sure if that's worked or not) and it still comes up with this. Please help me get iTunes back up and running. Thanks

Go to HD>Library>Receipts - remove the iTunesX.pkg receipt. Drag the iTunes app to the trash.
Repair permissions with Disk Utility - reboot - then try to run the installer.

  • ITunes says I don't have the x64 version when I do!

I recently bought a 32gb iPod touch, it was working fine until I formatted and reinstalled Vista. Now when ever I try to connect and sync my touch, it says that I need the x64 version of iTunes to sync my iPod. I've even reinstalled it too. Any ideas on why it would be doing this?

I assume you have downloaded the installer and saved it on your PC.

  • MyMac won't let me update Firefox. The error message says I don't have the authority to do that. I am the administrator of the computer. I check the controls and I am still the administrator. I prevent kids from downloading anything.

When I drag it per the installation window the popup error says
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
I have a macbook pro (unibody) running OX 10.5.8.
I AM the administrator. It just let me update microsoft office so it looks like the failure to update is targeted at Firefox.
I ran Avast for Mac (Beta and free) last night and it found 14 infected files mostly connected with Java (so much for the virus fee Mac theory). I deleted them all via the program. Then rebooted and redownloaded the new Firefox. Still got the same error message.
I'd appreciate any suggestions, help... magic wands LOL

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • The New Itunes says I don't have permission to make changes. All I want to do is add stuff to my Itunes. What can I do?

The new Itunes says I don't have permission to make changes when all I want to do is add files to my itunes library.
    What can I do?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I can't download anymore TV from itunes, says i don't have enough icloud storage. My storage says i have 5GB to use and 4.6GB are still free

The message shouldn't have anything to do with iCloud storage. You need the free space on the iPad itself, not in iCloud. You have to free up space on the iPad by deleting content. You can delete any movies, videos, apps, or whatever you want to delete in Settings>General>Usage>Storage.

  • Iphone says I don't have the 'privilege' to sync

    Hi,
I've had my Iphone for 6 months and all of a sudden today it says I don't have the 'privilege' to sync my phone. What? Same computer, I'm logged in as myself?
    Totally perplexed?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Chris

    Randers,
I am so sorry. I wanted to give you credit also for sovling my problem because it was a combination of you and wjosten that made the magic happen.
First, that video you led me to was dead on! There were critical steps that I did not know from other videos I saw.
    wjosten,
thank you for recommending that I find a free tone. I was not able to find a free one, but I ponied up and bought one. As soon as I did, the tone tab showed up across the top.
Long story short, these are the reasons I could not make the ringtones:
    A) I may have tried to use music that could not be made into ringtones.
    B) When it was time to change the extensions, I may not have checked use m4r.  I moved through it that step too quickly.
At any rate, I thank you both and I am so sorry I did not get full points to both of you.

  • I downloaded firefox 6, and restarted computer, but the message under the search window says I don't have the latest firefox. I tried twice. thank you

I downloaded Firefox 6 and restarted computer, but the message under the search window says I don't have the latest Firefox. I tried twice. Thank you.

I have a similar problem; but I think the cause of the "already running" message is that my computer crashed.
I rebooted before I learned to look for the parent lock file, but even when I knew to look for it, I found my original profile folder to be empty.
So I created another profile folder, and FF works, but I cannot access my old profile folder. When I open the location where it should be, nothing's there. But if I go to profile manager, I see my original profile is still there (and it has a location, it's where it should be - and where it's invisible, but even if I type in this location, nothing comes up).
I tried making all folders visible (I run Windows 7), but this did not make my old profile visible.
I want to find it because of the bookmarks I bookmarked recently.

  • ITunes Says I Don't Have Privilages?

I'm trying to import some albums from my desktop, and so I tried the drag and drop method. The first album presented an error message saying I didn't have the correct privilages to write to the music folder. This is untrue, and I even double checked in the Get Info pane for the Music folder, and I am correct, I have both read and write privilages. So I tried it by going to File > Add to Library and got the same issue. So I try another album. iTunes showed a progress bar importing them but then they don't appear in iTunes. Not in Recently Added, not in Library, but strangely, it is located, correctely, in the Music > iTunes > iTunes Music folder.
I'm beyond confused and would really appreciate any help. Apple's normal support articles don't offer me any help.

It's possible that the library file is damaged and that you'll need to rebuild it. You can find instructions here:
How to recreate your iTunes Library
Don't empty the Trash (or just drag the iTunes library folder to the Desktop or some other place) until you know that the library has rebuilt successfully.
    Hope this helps.
