iTunes says I have 2 computers authorized (iPod Touch and MacBook Pro). However, until recently, I had 3 computers authorized but my iMac mysteriously disappeared from the list a few days ago. When I try to authorize my iMac, iTune says it's already authorized. Why did my iMac computer disappear from the list and how do I get it back on the list so I can continue to update Apps, etc, on my iMac?

Even though my iMac wasn't appearing in the authorized computer list, I tried to de-authorize it and this evening it worked. It actually de-authorized the computer. Yesterday I tried this same step and iTunes didn't allow me to de-authorize. After I de-authorized, I authorized the iMac. However, the iMac still wasn't appearing in the authorized computer list. I logged out of iTunes.
As a last resort, I decided to play a t.v. movie I had purchased on this computer using my one an only iTunes account. After I played a couple of minutes of the movie, I stopped it and logged into my iTunes account.
Hurray, finally my iMac is appearing in the authorized computer list and I'm able to update my purchased apps on my iMac.

I selected Manual update of songs and play lists on second computer. I tried to put an episode of Lost on my iPod from the second computer, It says in iTunes that it is on my Ipod, but the Do Not Disconnect sign did not show up on iPod, and iTunes says it updated, I ejected it correctly and still didn't show up I just wasted two hours of my life searching the discussions and have not found anything close. PLEASE HELP ME

Ahh thank you for that. I had wondered if iCloud was the cause but wasn't sure. Thank you very much. If for some reason that is not the answer I will update but if is I will let this thread die

ITunes says I have the max (5 computers) authorized, but I only have one..

Upgrading my operating system and re-installing iTunes on my PC and it says I cannot authorize this version of iTunes because I already have the maximum number of computers (5) authorized. As far as I know, I only have one. How can I somehow "reset" my iTunes account so that other older computers I may have had in the past are no longer authorized?

You need to Deauthorize all then authorize what you want.

i just went through the iPod **** of the 2.3 update, restored, etc, and had to "play" a purchased song to get them all on my iPod. fine -- but why am i getting a msg that i've authorized 3 computers when this is my first and only that i've used iTunes on? i read the threads about being able to deauthorize when you've auth... 5 -- but why does apple think i have 3? thanks.

under my account, itunes had my name, phone, and credit card -- but some other random address in ft lauderdale. i deauthed my computer until it said i couldn't do it anymore, but my account still showed additional auths.
scary, so i emailed itunes support as well as called apple.
calling was useless. the guy there told me that it couldn't be possible that you had to use all 5 auths before deauthing all. that it was silly. he went to "check on that" and came back telling me that authing is important to protect the artists. i told him i didn't want a piracy schpeel. useless.
i just got an email from itunes, they have, in fact, unauthorized all of the computers associated with my account.

Just moved my stuff to a new iMac G5. Of course, I couldn't play my Music Store downloads, so I provided my apple id and password and authorized my computer to play them. iTunes confirmed that my computer was now authorized. However, it still won't let me play the music! When I try to play it, I get the same "not authorized" message again. This happens whether I log out and log in again or restart. I keep repeating the authorization process, but it doesn't take.
Any suggestions?

Okay, my problem is solved.
It turns out I had TWO iTunes accounts:
[email protected]
and
username (without the @mac.com)
I had thought that I only had one account, the mac.com account.
After iTunes support told me that I had two accounts, I logged in using the other one and was able to authorize my songs.

Make sure that yo have the boxed chanced to only sync the checked music. It appears that it is trying to sync ore than those.
You can try unsycing all music and resyncing.

Usually that means you have content, such as apps or media, on the mobile device that was acquired from Apple under a different Apple ID than the one you're using with iTunes. The only way out is to remove that content, or else to sign in to the iTunes Store with the other ID.

Once you've authorized a computer it is authorized forever untill you "unauthorize" it. So if you have had a computer and gotten rid of it, or authorized a friends computer to use for awhile, or anything else then you've authorized computers up to your limit.

You cannot deauthorie a computer without access to that computer.
You can deauthorize all, then authorize the active computers.

iTunes says computer not authorized. When I try to authorize computer it says it is already authorized but will not play song. Note. Library was moved from PC to MAC. I am signed in to Itunes with the Apple ID created on the old computer which is different than the Apple ID used to set up the MAC.

I'm experiencing the same thing under iTunes 11.1.1:
iTunes says the computer is not authorized, prompts me to authorize
I enter my credentials, iTunes says computer is already authorized
When I attempt to play song, iTunes starts at bullet point 1 above over again.
My attempted fixes:
I tried everything in this support document, to no avail: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389 (Note: I cannot find a SC Info folder on my Mac)
Deauthorize and then reauthorize computer
Delete song and try to redownload from iTunes store - there's only a button that says 'purchased' with no option to redownload it
Note: I am using only one iTunes account, and I double checked the song info - I'm authorizing the correct account - 12 songs from the same album purchased at the same time play fine. As does the song in question - from the finder. Only iTunes stubbornly refuses to play it.
The most odd thing is that iTunes music is DRM free - the song in question was purchased only a few months ago. Thus there's no need to authorize the computer to play it.
I was hoping that iTunes 11.1.1 would cure it - no dice.

This happened to me as well. I use an iMac as my main machine, but have a laptop that my daughter uses. I use my Apple ID on both computers. I would occasionally see on my iMac that I have updates available and would click update and get the No Update Available response, yet the red badge remains displaying that I have an update. Found that a few people had this happening as well via these forums so I checked on the laptop and it updated. I then noticed the red badge on the iMac had disappeared as well. If you have any other computers that share your Apple ID, I'd run update on those to see if it fixes your issue.

How come ITunes says I purchased a song, but I can't find it in any library

As in purchased it 4 minutes ago, or 4 years ago? The new versions of iTunes are always very reliable at having songs show up in the main library display window when an item is added. Does your song appear in Recently Added? Have you checked your media folders to see if the song is actually on your computer but it is just iTunes that is having conniptions?
