ITUNES SAYS IPOD IS CORRUPT?!?!

well hello there. ill start from the beginning...
i own an ipod video....
when i plug my ipod into my computer, this window appears in the upper left hand corner that says "autoplay" with a flashlight that is searching and a progress bar at the bottom. i dont know what this does, or if it the result of anything. so then i proceed to wait for my ipod to be recognized by itunes.
as soon as my ipod is recognized a window pops up telling me my ipod is corrupt and that i will need to restore my ipod. it also tells me that i will lose everything off of my ipod upon restoration.
so i did exactly that. all my files were lost and the restore process worked perfectly. i thought i was in the clear until as soon as the restore finished and itunes recognized my ipod again. the same "corrupt" message popped up again. my ipod was rendered useless because i could not sync it with itunes and all my songs and movies were deleted.
...its now two weeks later....
i have tried restoring many times. i have reset my ipod many times. i have reinstalled itunes twice and i have restarted my computer many times. i have also gotten very annoyed.
so this is where you come in to save the day. i have no clue what to do. a possible reason is that my computer has a virus and has been acting wierd. i cant think of anything else to do.
anything to help...any piece of advice...would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. if this has been asked before, don't yell, just show me the way.

Well you think you got problems?
I own the second gen iPod before the clickweel even ccame out. Mine always says corrupt, all i did was run a virus scan through my iPod, there was a virus i accidentally dowloaded. try that, then take your iPod to where you got it from, or call apple. Emailing them stinks, all i get back is a form letter telling me something totally unrelated. My batterry meter is messed up and shuts dows when it reaxhes full power. So i learned one thing. I smacked my iPod real hard in the back and the the batterry came ack to lfe, weird huh?

  • Itunes saying ipod is corrupted

I just downloaded the latest version of itunes, and it tells me my ipod is corrupted, message 1418. It would not let me restore my ipod, showing me yet another error message. I can't figure out what is wrong. I restored my ipod at a friends house, but it's still showing the same problem on my computer. I have no idea what to do! someone please help! Everything worked fine till this version of itunes came out!

Some people have had success trying the fix mentioned here.
    Error 1418.
"showing me yet another error message."
You must be more specific about which error message. There are so many.

  • My 40gb can be played but Itunes says it is corrupt.  I want to get the music off the Ipod onto my new computer, old computer died which had all the data on it (crap on my behalf I know)  Anyone know how to do this?

My hard drive is corrupt even though I can listen to the music on the Ipod.  Itunes says it is corrupt so obviously cannot read it properly.  You can hear the disk reader resetting every few seconds preventing the data recovery.
We can see the track listings and playlists which we used for our wedding in 2005 and desperately want them back.
Sadly we lost the hard drive that had Itunes on it with all our music which we dont have a back up of.
Is there anyway it can be repaired and then we get the music off the Ipod and get it back on a new pc....and back it up of course?!!!

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

  • Everytime I connect...says Ipod is corrupt

Everytime I connect my 2nd gen Ipod shuffle it says it is corrupted and needs to be restored. I restore.....add songs to playlist.....works fine.....but once I unplug and plug it back in I get the same corrupt thing all over again and have to restore and do the same thing all over again????
Is anybody else having this problem? I have installed Itunes and uninstalled....am using the latest 7.4 version. I am stuck and completely frustrated and afraid to plug it in the dock.
    HELPP!!!!!

Change the drive letter on your Shuffle, use something like M or P or Z. To do so, connect ONLY your iPod (to a rear port), keyboard and mouse to the USB chain, disconnect from any network you might be on, and follow this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499

  • Programs recognizing, But saying ipod is corrupt.

I have the 4g Ipod Touch. Ive had it about 2 weeks now, And when I connect it to my computer now Itunes detects it but said it was corrupted and is now asking me to restore or set up a new ipod. And also my music rescue program is saying the Ipod is corrupt so I cant get all my music off of it. Does anyone know what could have caused this. And how to solve it without losing all my music?

Yes. Just sign in using the same email address as before.
    1. Make sure you are signed in with the same account used for the original purchase.
    2. Locate the app in the App Store and click the BUY APP button.
    3. You will see a dialog similar to the one below. Click the Buy button.
    4. You will then see a dialog similar to one below. Click OK to continue with the download.
But you can't do that with music, only apps.
    Hope that answers your question.

  • Dropped Ipod, connected to Itunes, said Ipod was corrupted...

So I dropped my ipod, yes I know Im stupid. So I turn it on, and its kinda being funky, so I plug it in, and it says my Ipod is corrupted and restore to try and fix it. So I restore it, and now I can actually use it, I can get on it, click around thru music, artists, videos, etc., except that now theres no music on my ipod because I restored it, and every time I connect my ipod to try and get songs back on, it says it is corrupted.

Reformat it in Windows (FAT32) then do a Restore in iTunes.

Were you ever able to solve this problem? If so,
how? If not, did you see the same slowness copying
the files in Windows Explorer from the NAS to the
    iPod?
No I wasn't. To be honest I have essentially given up as even if I can fix it, disk space is cheaper than life is long!
Using the NAS in general is no problem. In fact, once iTunes got beyond the initial working out of what needed to be removed from and copied to the iPod, having all my MP3s on the NAS and copying direct to the iPod was no issue.
Following some sage (and frankly scary!) advice at ilounge (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=163611), I've decided to keep two copies of my MP3s. The fact that my fiendish NAS plan has failed is hurting more than the not-all-that-traumatic reality of duplicating 140GB of files if truth be told!

  • Itunes says ipod touch has the latets version but i know it doesnt

Itunes says my ipod touch has the latest software version 4.3.2 when i know it doesnt as latest version is 4.3.3. how can i update it?

OK so here are the direct download links:
    Third generation iPod Touch
    Fourth generation iPod Touch
Download the appropiate one and plug your iPod in to your computer. In iTunes, hit the "Check for Update" button while holding down the Option key. You will see an "Open File" dialog. Locate your .ipsw file and press Enter.
    The update should be accomplished.

  • Even after restore, it says iPod is corrupted

First, I tried to listen to my iPod today and all of the songs were just gone. I listened to it last night and it was fine, I didn't even update it, but this morning all of the songs are gone. So, I tried to sync it but it says my iPod is corrupted and I need to restore. After going through the whole process restoring, I see the progress bar on the iPod and it completes. The computer says it'll show up in the sources list in a second, and it acts like it's fine. However, after a few minutes when it does connect, I still get the error message I originally get when I plugged the iPod in, saying the iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored. I've had this iPod since it first came out and I don't know how I could live without it, especially since I'm going on a long trip tomorrow...bad timing. Is my iPod dead?

Does it play any of the songs you have in it? Formatting may be the solution. It happened to me before and it even showed me the sad iPod icon, but it worked again after I formated and restored.
    Good luck

  • Itunes said ipod is corrupt

I recently (last night) upgraded to itunes version 7.1.1.5. After I did that, I plugged the ipod into the cable to upload songs and Itunes is claiming the ipod is corrupt and that I needed to restore it to factory settings. I went ahead and did that - uploaded all my songs again to the ipod. I unplugged it from the pc and went to upload a couple other songs and now all I get is that the ipod is corrupt - I need to restore it again. Anyone know why it is doing this and what I need to do to try to fix it so I dont have to restore it everytime I want to upload songs? Can I go back to the previous version of Itunes?
    thanks.

Ipod 20GB with click wheel   Windows XP

    Hi KimZ!
You could try this, and see if it does anything:
    Go to "My Computer".
Right-click on your iPod, and click on "Format".
Select the format type to be "FAT32". Then, click "OK" to start the formatting process.
After the process is complete, make sure to restore your iPod again in iTunes, to load the firmware onto your iPod again.
After you've done that, eject your iPod from your computer if needed, then disconnect it. Restart your computer.
Then, reconnect your iPod to your computer for a sync again, and see if the "corrupt" message appears again.
Also, you could try running Chkdsk on your iPod, and see if it comes up with any errors about your iPod.
For more information on chkdsk, see this MS document about it:

  • 4th Gen iPod Works one minute then the next iTunes says it is corrupt

OK, I have been reading these posts for a few weeks now. About a month ago my iPod died. I plugged it in to my MacPro and started to upload music to it from iTunes for a car trip. It froze and when I tried to eject it the Finder froze. So I warm booted it and removed it when the Apple appeared on the screen. The Finder worked again once it was no longer connected. Then when I tried to start up my iPod the Folder icon appeared. I did the steps support tells you to when you get that icon. Nothing, then I did a restore with iTunes. It worked again until I tried adding music to it. The darned thing froze up again and I was back to square one. I gave up for a week, then came back to it and tried again and amazingly it worked! I put my entire 32GB music library on it. Success! But no. I plugged it in just 2 days ago and it did the freezing thing again and I am again given the folder icon and iTunes recommends a restore. What is going on here??? Seems like I have been reading a lot about this sort of thing. I tried going back to an earlier version of iTunes, but that did nothing. Anyone have some suggestions? This thing is WAAAY out of warranty, so I'd be better off buying a new one, but I don't want to!

I had the a similar problem. I have a 4G iPod b/w like yours, I have found that on some of these iPods that the hard - drive is not connected very well to the rest of the iPod. I found a site, and i am looking for it right now for you, this fixed the problem for me for a bit, then I had to repeat it again. after the second time if the iPod is still doing this then I would seek out a new one.
This is a link to a site that will tell you how to fix it: http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=93789/

  • ITunes says iPod needs recovery, no iPod connected

Whenever I start iTunes 11.0.1.12 I get a message that reads, "iTunes has detected an iPod that may be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.  You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod." It displays a picture of an iPod classic and a page titled iPod Recovery Mode with my iPod's serial number and a button that says Restore iPod.
But my iPod classic is not connected. Sometimes it freezes on this page and I have to force shut iTunes to use it.
Any ideas about how I can make this stop?
    Thank you.

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive
