Itunes says ipod touch is an iphone?

well I just bought my touch about two weeks ago, and it was working fine. but two days ago when I plugged it in, itunes said 'could not connect iphone'
and then my touch just restarts (the black screen with the apple logo in the middle appears). it keeps doing that ever time i connect it to my computer. But once the touch restarts it goes back to normal, and itunes can read it again. And i know this isnt normal. someone plz help!?

Done a restore yet?
Is it charged up?
Is it convenient for you to get to an Apple store for help, or to do an exchange for another unit?
Good luck,
Scott

Go to www.ecamm.com and d/l PhoneView.
To prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - hold down the 'option' and the 'command' keys when plugging in the iPod/iPhone - key the keys down until the iPod/iPhone is listed under the Devices list in iTunes - this will prevent a sync from taking place.
With PhoneView you can take the content from the device to the iTunes library.

  • ITunes w/ iPod touch 2d gen & iPhone 4S... ?

I learned that my iPod touch 2d gen 32gb will no longer be supported, during the same week that I learned I am eligible for a phone upgrade. After doing a bunch of research, (I can't believe I'm saying this) I'm thinking iPhone 4S 16gb. It would be my first iPhone.
    Is this utterly stupid?
In the time I've owned my iPod touch, iTunes has wiped it so often, and eaten ITSELF so many times, that since winter 2009 I have developed some anxiety about sync'ing, and about using iTunes generally. Like, I cringe everytime I touch the connector, and my palms hurt when I plug it into the device. I have kept the software up to date. Perhaps this is the problem?
Does anyone out there use an old iPod touch and a new iPhone (4S) with the same instance of iTunes and the same Apple account? Does it work? Is it a nightmare?
I know that these software/hardware relationships are crazy complicated, but I can't shake the feeling that Apple either doesn't take our data seriously, or needs to come up with a 'thief-identification' algorithm that knows the difference between a messed-up software update and a copyright/license infringer/violator.
What I'm reading on the boards and hearing in meatspace about the iPhone and sync'ing with iTunes, is the opposite of reassuring.

My question is about version compatibility. The question again, minus the chattiness:
My iPod touch = 2nd gen, meaning, it's a 2008 device, meaning: no iOS 5. Will it still sync with the newest version of iTunes?
I might be getting the iPhone 4S. A 2011 device. Which runs on iOS5 and needs the newest version of iTunes.
Is there a way I'll be able to sync these two chunks of hardware, of radically disparate ages/generations with the same instance of iTunes?

  • Itunes says ipod touch has the latets version but i know it doesnt

Itunes says my ipod touch has the latest software version 4.3.2 when i know it doesnt as latest version is 4.3.3. how can i update it?

OK so here are the direct download links:
    Third generation iPod Touch
    Fourth generation iPod Touch
Download the appropiate one and plug your iPod in to your computer. In iTunes, hit the "Check for Update" button while holding down the Option key. You will see an "Open File" dialog. Locate your .ipsw file and press Enter.
    The update should be accomplished.

  • HT4623 iTunes says ipod touch is up-to-date (ios 4.2.1). How do I override this and download ios 5?

    I had an ipod touch
My ipod touch had iso 5
I bought a computer a year ago and got another ipod touch
I gave second ipod touch to my mother
    My mother never used it
    My ipod touch broke
Mother sent me the ipod I gave her previously
She never updated it to ios 5
    I want iso 5
Ipod does not have an update button under general settings
itunes claims that ios 4.2.1 is the most up-to-date and will not download ios 5
    What do I do?
    Thanks!

Look at the back of the iPod. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. The 2nd generation iPod touch is model A1288, and 3rd generation iPod touch is model A1318. If you have a second-generation iPod touch, the last release of iOS is can run is 4.2.1.

  • ITunes thinks iPod Touch is and iPhone after water damage

So I dropped my iTouch 3g 32gb in the toilet. I let it dry in rice for about four days and did the hairdryer thing. It won't turn on now. However, when I plug it into the computer with the USB cable it shows up in iTunes and it thinks it is an iPhone in recovery mode. All the details are set as n/a except for the name. It says "iPhone" even though its not. It tells me I need to restore it. When I press restore it tells me there is no software for this "iPhone" and I need to make sure I have the most recent version of iTunes. Any advice? I already bought a new iPod and the old one is not covered under the warranty anymore so I don't care about voiding the warranty.

Even when I plug it into iTunes it doesn't turn on even though it says there's an "iPhone" plugged in.

    Hello jose mariofromsan luis potosi,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are saying that your iOS devices are not showing up in iTunes on your Windows computer, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
On the other hand, if you are saying that your devices are only showing a Connect To iTunes icon screen, then this article may be more useful:

Your iPhone and iPod can share the same iTunes account.  Apps can be freely shared and used by one or both devices.  You can't use money in your iTunes account to pay for your phone, but purchased apps can be used by both the iPod and iPhone.

  • Had an iPod touch and an iPhone on iTunes. Added another iPhone and iTunes erased/ignored the first two units. I deleted iTunes and reloaded to start over. How do I "Reverse" sync what is on my iPod touch and my first iPhone??

  • How come my iPod touch AND my iPhone will no longer sync with my iTunes?

for some reason the past few days ive been trying to back up my iPod touch and my iPhone 4s on itunes and its not discovering it. ive done all the steps on the support page. ive reinstalled itunes, ive shut the computer off and rebooted. rebooted my phone and the ipod and still nothing. ive tried multiple usb ports that are on my laptop. ive went into computer management and its still not seeing anything. i know the cord is fine because its less than a week old and when i plug it in, the devices are charging. someone please help!

Did you do eveyrthing in the following:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Including removing and reinstalling all the Apple software by:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
The above include a link for XP
Do you have another cable to try?  The charging and data use different conductors/contacts so it may still charge with a bad cable.

  • ITunes having iPod touch and iPhone confusion.

    Help?
My 32GB 3rd generation ipod touch has gone permanently black after a couple of weeks of playing up. I have tried to reset it by holding home and sleep with absolutely no response.
When I connect it to my mac through iTunes a info box pops up stating "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." Keeping in mind that I have an iPod touch not a iPhone I go to restore it anyway and it then states "Software for this iPhone is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again." I've tried connecting it to other computers including microsoft, all with the current version of itunes with the same outcome.
I have the latest version of iTunes so I'm utterly stuck so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try placing the iPod in DFU mode and then restore.

My iphone 3gs wont update. itunes and ipod touch update no problem, my GF has exact same phone and hers updated also...any advice?

If I was in your shoes, I would choose to restore the iPhone with iTunes and then choose to NOT restore a previous backup.  I'd then go on to set up the phone as though it were totally new, and choose the stuff to load onto it.
The reason I'd go through that trouble.. even though it meant losing a lot of settings and having to set stuff up again .. is because I wasn't sure I could trust the backup that it's restoring from.
If you have trouble again after doing the fresh reload -- especially if it's soon after you do it -- you may have a hardware issue with the phone, such as faulty flash memory or a processor chip that's failing. If that's the case, you'll want to consider your repair/replacement options at that point.

  • I get an error from iTunes saying it cant recognize the "iPhone"

I just upgraded to itunes 7.6.0.29, after that got a pop up with a message from iTunes saying it cant recognize the "iPhone" and to detach it and try again.
Just for verification uninstalled 7.6 and reinstalled 7.5. The problem went away. Then upgraded the iPod Touch software to version 1.1.3
Thinking that with the new SW version in the iPod maybe the problem went away upgraded again iTunes to 7.6 just to get the same error again.
Any way to "fix" this? or should I re-install 7.5 and wait for 7.7?
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi there,
follow the following steps below and it shud sort ur problem.
"THE FIRST AND FOREMOST BLUNDER THAT WE HAVE DONE IS OUR ITUNES VERSION SHOULD BE 7.6 IN ORDER TO UPDATE THE IPOD SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE TO 1.1.3 FROM WHAT EVER OLDER VERSION WE HAVE."
*MAKE SURE THE ACTUAL EXISTING VERSION OF THE ITUNES ON YOUR
    COMPUTER/LAPTOP
STEP 1:Friends what I have done is I disconnected my IPOD from my laptop and
firstly downloaded the ACTUAL (EXISTING OLDER) ITUNES version (7.5) that I
initially had while i was DOING THE BLUNDER OF UPDATING THE FIRMWARE TO
    1.1.3.
YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE OLDER VERSIONS FROM THIS SITE:
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes/?3694
STEP 2: Once the ITUNES (older version) dump is available on your computer
uninstall the ITUNES and all the IPOD related stuff from your computer
    from Start>Control panel>ADD/Remove programs.
Step 3: Restart ur computer and reinstall that older version ITUNES software
    again.
    Open the ITUNES software.
Step 4: Now connect your IPOD and the ITUNES will prompt you that an IPOD in
recovery mode is detected. It will ask you if u want to recover it to the
factory settings by clicking on "restore" under the "summary" tab on
ITUNES. Before doing this the very important step we need to do is to
UPDATE THE ITUNES VERSION FROM THE EXISTING OLDER VERSION TO 7.6 WHICH IS
    VERY IMPORTANT.
STEP 5: To do this click on the HELP menu on the top and click on CHECK FOR
UPDATES. Thats it the ITUNES will be updated to latest version which will
allow us to update the IPOD'S FIRMWARE to 1.1.3 as well.
STEP 6: Now go to the summary tab of the IPOD and click on restore> wait for the
restoration process to carry on and the IPOD should be running back to
    normal.
WELL FRIENDS THIS WHAT I HAVE DONE ON MY IPOD AND THE PROBLEM IS SORTED.
I HOPE THIS SHOULD SORT YOUR PROBLEMS AS WELL.
