  • ITunes 9.2 - requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support.

So, I upgraded to the latest iTunes and when I connect my iPhone to the computer, it detects it but a message pops up saying, "iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support."
I've downloaded the 64-bit installer and and followed the steps of uninstalling iTunes through this --- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925, and I've done this multiple times, but the message keeps popping up. Help?
    P.S. - my computer runs on Windows 7 64-bit.

Yeah, I was looking back at some previous threads before I created this thread on how to fix my problem, and this one was of the ways. So I installed the utility and, removed the Apple Mobile Device Support entry, and restarted and reinstalled iTunes again, but AMDS still did not work when I did it.
Let's keep following up on the possibility for a while longer.
Launch your CleanUp again. *Don't remove anything at this stage.* We're having a looksee first.
In addition to any AMDS entries, are there any lines at the top of the list in CleanUp which lack a Program name, but just show (All Users) and a version number in square brackets? If so, what are the version numbers on those lines? (Best not to include the square brackets in your reply ... the forum software autoformats material inside them into links. Harmless but disoncerting if you aren't expecting it.)
Checking on this, because if an msi is damaged in the right/wrong way, it may appear in CleanUp without a program name. However, some things that ought not to be removed can appear without a program name too. Hence the doublecheck of the version numbers of any such entries.

  • TS1538 "itunes requires a newer version of apple mobile device support. Please uninstal both apple mobile device support and itunes and then reinstall itunes." I have done this 3 times!!!

I have just installed the new version of itune (11.1) and it keeps coming up with this message. "itunes requires a newer version of apple mobile device support. Please uninstall both apple mobile device support and itunes and then reinstall itunes."  I have done this step 3 times, while following the support steps on how to fully remove all itunes and related programs. I keep getting the same issue.
Also, my computer recognizes my phone but itunes wont. When I try to do a driver update according to the support page it keeps telling me that "The folder specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows x64- based systems." On the support page it also suggests trying an alternate folder (program files(x86)/common files/ apple/ mobile device software/ drivers) That doesn't work either.
I am getting extremely frustrated....  Can someone PLEASE help!!!!
I also just upgraded my phone from and iphone4 to an iphone 5c.

many thanks. That's also useful to know.
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunesSetup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does an iTunes install go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Error: iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support.

Yesterday, I upgraded to iTunes 9 x64 (running Windows 7). The installation went fine and iTunes seemed to be working great until I plugged in my iPhone. When I plug it in, rather than showing up under my devices, I get an error message popping up:
iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Please uninstall both Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, then install iTunes again.
    ( picture: http://imgur.com/HdJSx.png )
I have tried to uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support with little success and tried running the repair for the iTunes install, but I still have failure. I am worried about losing all of my iTunes data if I uninstall - I recently switched over to a different OS installation and copied my iTunes config information (XML docs and stuff) - it kept my library intact, but sneakily reset my iPhone to a way old configuration and deleted most of my data from it.
So... (1) has anyone else run into this and overcome it, and (2) how can I follow the directions [uninstalling/reinstalling] without losing my data, computer authorization with iTunes, etc.?
    Thanks

Ok, here is what seems to have worked for me. I was not able to uninstall AMDS from the control panel, because it was generating a fatal error. I then stopped all apple related services, and then did a repair installation. This allowed me to uninstall AMDS, but when I went to repair Itunes...it didn't reinstall AMDS.
I then uninstalled everything related to Apple, Itunes, Bonjour, Apple software update, Apple application support, the Iphone Configuration utility. I then installed Itunes 9 from the downloaded file, and it opened fine. I then connected my iphone and it synced fine as well. It's downloading the 3.1 firmware now and I will disconnect and reconnect once that is installed to make sure it's all still working.
Hopefully this works for the rest of you.
p.s. I didn't reboot at all during the uninstall of all services and reinstall.

i cant sync with my i-tunes anymore...!!! it comes up i tunes requires a newer version of Apple mobile device support. can anyone help

    Hi Markynewman,
If you're unable to sync with iTunes any more and the error states you need a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support, I would check out this article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
The first section has you troubleshoot your device, which is always a good idea but you might be able to skip since the error mentions Apple Mobile Device Support as the culprit.  The second section is for troubleshooting iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support.
    Cheers,

  • HT4097 In regards to the above.  I go all the way through, even to the point of downloading the restore.  It completes the downloand and I get an error stating the download software is corrupt try again.  I did this 5 times with the same result.  Can anyo

My wife has an iPad 2. She recently tried to update the OS via wireless internet.  The system became totally unresponsive.  I finally got the apple logo to come up on the screen, but nothing else.  I went online and found out that I could possible restore the system to the original factory settings.  I held down the home button and plugged in the USB cable which was connected to my iMac.  I went through the restore download to restore the system to factory setting. After the download was complete I ge the following error iPad Software download is corrupt. Disconnect and try again.  I did this 6 times with the same result each time.  I ensured the iMac was running the latest version of iTunes.  I really need some help with this.....can anyone help me please!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I have seen previous versions mentioned in a pop up message before on iCloud.com, but I'm not really sure at all how it would help, as I couldn't get it to do anything.
The best advice I have at this time is to back up your work on your iOS device by regularly saving it to iTunes, if anything goes wrong you can then either load it into the numbers app again on the device or recover it via iTunes on your computer.
My syncs are immediate, I never get chance to see if it works in the background, sorry.

  • ITunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the newest version of iTunes and it still says it needs a newer version. I'm working with Windows 7 and I'm really having difficulties hooking up my iPhone 4 with iTunes. I've literally done everything.
I've started and restarted the Apple Mobile Device program and still I'm getting nothing. I've even called Apple Support and since it's a Windows computer and not an Apple product, they refuse to help me. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Can't set up my time capsule on Airport Extreme (updated).  Apple instructions are to use manual set up.  Click on Advanced tab.  Click on Mobileme and enter Mobileme ID and password.  I did this.  But Time Machine window is blank.  Tryed to click on update window after entering Mobileme ID but Airport does not respond (turn of then on)

I have been experiencing some networking problems
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I have the latest Time Capsule ("TC"), an old Airport Extreme Base Station ("AEBS") bought in 2007 and 2 Airport Expresses, one bought in 3 months ago ("AE-Alpha") and the other bought back in 2007 ("AE-Beta"). All of them have been updated with the latest firmware.
Based on those dates, the AirPort Extreme is probably flat (as opposed to dome-shaped), making it 802.11n-capable. The Newer AirPort Express is probably an 802.11n-capable model A1264, while the older one is probably a model A1084 or A1088.
I use {the TC's} DHCP function ... to avoid unauthorized use.
This a discussion for another thread, but that's not what DHCP is for.
The wireless setting for it is to participate as WDS Main, but after reading various posts, it seems WDS is a bad idea
With that older AirPort Express you're stuck with WDS unless you decide to replace it with a newer model.
The AEBS is currently setup as being a WDS Relay at the moment
Why a relay? That's only needed if there's another base station "beyond" it that is configured to depend on it.
Since the AEBS is connected to the TC via Ethernet, you should probably configure it as a "roaming network":
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2273124
{The AE-Alpha} connects fine as WDS remote at the moment
I don't have any experience with mixed WDS and non-WDS networks, but since it's 802.11n-capable, you may be able to configure it to "extend" the network of the TC rather than as WDS. Look for a setting on the TC to "Allow this network to be extended".
    Physical location:
AEBS in one end, TC and AE-Alpha in the middle while AE-Beta on the other end.
A device such as "AE-Beta" that's supposed to extend a network shouldn't be "at the end" but should be half way between the central base station and the clients that need an extended network.
