Itunes says my computer isn't authorized to play certain songs but it is.

Due to poor planning on our part, my wife and I have three apple ID's.  For some reason, iTunes now won't play music that was purchased with the oldest apple ID.  Whenever I try to play a song bought with that ID, I get a message saying "This computer is not authorized to play 'Song Name.'  Would you like to authorize it?"  I am then prompted to enter the password for the apple ID.  After I've done that, I get a message saying "This computer is already authorized."  However, it still won't play anything.  I've searched throughout this forum and found similar issues, but all of the solutions seem to be tailored to previous OS and versions of iTunes.  I'm using Mountain Lion and have iTunes 11.2.  I've tried deleting all of the com.apple.iTunes files from Library, but that didn't seem to do anything.  Any help will be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Thanks.  I had already read that article and followed the steps.  The article is outdated and appears to be talking about a previous version of iTunes and/or OS X (I couldn't find a SC Info folder anywhere).  I did figure out the issue on my one.  One of my apple ID's is fakeappleid and the other is [email protected]  When I clicked "Get Info" on the songs that weren't authorized anymore, it said that they were associated with the fakeappleid user name.  Also, iTunes kept prompting me to enter the fakeappleid login info and then telling me that the computer was already authorized.  Only when I tried re-authorizing my computer for [email protected] would my songs play.  So the confusion lies with the fact that iTunes was telling me one apple ID wasn't authorized my computer when it was actually another apple ID that wasn't authorized.  Hope that makes sense.

iTunes says my computer isn't authorized to play one of the songs I just downloaded, but all the rest of them work. That song works on my iPad so why won't it work on my computer or my iPod? It says my computer isn't authorized to play that song so I type in my password and it pops up with a menu saying my computer is already authorized and it skips to the next song. No matter what I do it won't play that song on my laptop or my iPod.

I downloaded an album but some of the songs won't play - says my computer isn't authorized to play the song. I checked the authorization, and this computer is authorized. How do I fix this?

If just some of the tracks on the album are doing that, that suggests those tracks are damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Itunes says my computer is not authorized to play songs on the nano.

I connected my Nano( 2nd gen) synched it with my itunes and transferred some songs a few days ago.
Today, I wanted to add some songs I missed but now Itunes is saying my computer isn't authorized to play songs on it. When I try to authorize it (the window pops up for my itunes store password) I get an error from the itunes store. Specifically it says unknown error (-42408).
What does it mean and how do I make it stop?

    Hello Sesquipedelianne,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you upgraded to the latest version of iTunes? This error message was common for people who were just upgrading to version 9, but it was resolved as of 9.1.

  • Ipod won't sync b/c Itunes says my computer isn't authorized but it is

I built a new computer but Itunes hasn't recognized my Ipod (seperate issue)so right now I'm syncing it to a netbook connected to the same external hard drive I use with my main new computer with my music on the drive. I have authorised the computer to my account but some files (mostly videos) still won't sync because itunes thinks that the computer isn't authorized even though it is. How can I fix this?

I had that problem myself just last week, and this is what Apple told me to do. It worked for me.
    Choose Start > Computer.
Choose Organize > Folder and Search Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    Click OK.
Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:
    C:\Program Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
Right-click the SC Info folder shown and from the shortcut menu, choose Delete.
    Restart the computer.
    Open iTunes.
Authorize your computer to play your purchases.

  • Itunes says my computer is not authorized to play videos

I know this is a problem that Apple is aware of. I have tried several ways and I cannot get my iMac to play the videos I have purchased. I get an error message saying the computer is not authorized, but when I try to authorize it I get a message telling me it already is authorized. I think the only thing I haven't tried is going into the Terminal and following the instructions Apple gives, but I am not comfortable doing that as I know I can mess up the computer if I do it wrong. iTunes will play my music but not my TV shows.

    Hello calliesmom
Try deleting the SC info folder in the article below and the Authorize your account again that way you are not doing anything in terminal that would make you feel uncomfortable

  • ITunes says my computer isn't authorized to sync my iPhone. Then when I authorize, it says it is already authorized. So it keeps repeating this cycle!

I have a new computer and have continually had problems syncing.  Now it says computer is no longer authorized to play purchases on my iPhone. When I put in password etc. to authorize, it says it is already authorize. Then it syncs up to step 5 and repeats again.  I have tried entering my password about ten times.  Same thing. It is already authorized. But then when I try to sync, it says it is not authorized!

The computer is new and I guess this is more of a computer than an iPhone problem, isn't it?
    Is the computer a Mac?
If so, perhaps also give the following document a try:

  • Itunes says my computer isn't authorized, then it says it's already authorized. Endless circle..

I know there are several threads similar to this one, but I wanted to start my own and include the exact messages that keeps popping up. Today when I tried to sync (by USB) my iPhone 4, I got the following sequence of messages:
    1) "This computer is no longer authorized for apps that are installed on the iPhone "MyName". Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store? If you do not authorize this computer, 11 apps and their data will be deleted from this phone."
    2) My options are to click on "Cancel", "Don't Authorize", or "Authorize"... I click on "Authorize."
    3) I then enter in my Apple ID and password and get the following message...
    4) "This computer is already authorized. Including this one, you have authorized one computer out of your available 5."
    5) I then click "OK" and message #1 pops back up. This cycle repeats over and over.
So far I've gone into "Shared" folder and do not have a SC file to delete. I've deauthorized and authorized my computer. I've started and restarted my computer after deauthorizing and authorizing and nothing seems to work. To make matters more frustrating, I haven't made any changes and everything was working great a week ago. I also don't think it's in iPhone issue because a week ago I downloaded a song and got a similar message sequence when I tried to play the song. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes 9 is saying the computer isn't authorized to play purchased tracks

I installed iTunes 9 this evening, and now i can't play the tracks i purchased from iTunes on my laptop because the computer is apparently not authorized to play them but the thing is i purchased these tracks on the laptop so why is this happening? It's also treating the iPod Touch as a new iPod when i have over 1400 songs on there. The thing is i bought them last year when i had internet on my laptop but i no longer have it on there so it's become a problem authorizing the computer (again)as you need the internet. How can i solve this problem? Is there some way of authorizing the music without accessing the internet, or can i authorize my laptop's music through using Windows iTunes? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
I had this same problem. I just rolled the dice and went to Store -> Deauthorize to deauthorize the computer and then immediately authorized it. Seemed to fix the problem.
On a side note, I'm apparently at 5 computers now. Does anyone know how to deauthorize old computers you don't have access to anymore?

  • Ipod won't update, says my computer isn't authorized to play my itunes song

I just purchased an album and several individual songs thru itunes. But, when I connected my iPod, it said "updating" then it said something like "unable to update some songs like (song name) because you are not authorized to play them on your computer." I purchased the songs thru iTunes using the same computer, so the message doesn't make any sense. It will update songs I downloaded from a CD, but will not update the songs I just spent $20 purchasing. By the way, this happens for both my shuffle and my nano. I've purchased and update music in the past without problems. This problem just started happening a few weeks ago. I've spent hours and hours running the updater software, etc, but to no avail.
Help!! Has anyone out there experienced this same problem?

Play the songs in iTunes, then update the iPod.

  • ITunes says my computer is not authorized to play purchased music

    This is false.
I've already authorized it. The computer in question is my work computer and the window of opportunity to gain access (to the internet) in order to authorize that computer is few and far between.
Said computer will play some music I've purchased, but not others.
Is there SOME way around having to access the 'net in order to authorize this computer? Which I have already authorized.

Said computer will play some music I've purchased, but not others.
Is it possible that the tracks that won't play were purchased through a different iTunes Store account? A computer must be authorized to each iTunes Store account used to purchase tracks you want to play. If you Get Info on the problem tracks, it will show you what account was used to purchase those tracks.
Is there SOME way around having to access the 'net in order to authorize this computer?
Sorry but no, there isn't. A computer must be able to access the iTunes Store at least briefly to be authorized. Otherwise the only way around the problem would be to burn the tracks to audio CD on another computer (one that can be authorized) and take those CDs to work.
