Itunes says my ipod is in recovery mode, but the ipod is fine.. help
when i connect the ipod classic 160g to my itunes the recent version, it tells me that " iTunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode.." and then it asks me to restore, but i dont want to restore cause all my music and videos are not backed up on the computer im using now. is there an alternative or a way to fix this problem?? preferbably without restoring my ipod?

I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS6 following a prompt from the application icon.
Once that was complete, my iPad asked me to connect to iTunes which I did. iTunes then told me that it detected an iPad/iPod in recovery mode and I needed to have a newer version of iTunes to restore.
I've tried before to upgrade to a new version of iTunes but was advised my Mac was unable to support this due to the Mac's age and old operating system.
How, therefore, do I get back onto using my iPad 'cos at the moment, all I get when I switch it on is the 'connect to iTunes' symbols.
Help please, I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!During a normal install of iOS 7.0.6 this does not happen but something clearly went wrong in your installation.
To fix this, connect to iTunes and restore to Factory. Hopefully your iPad will be working again and you can restore your iCloud backup during Setup. -

After some time passed I was notified that the update couldn't be downloaded and that my iphone was in recovery mode and needed to be restored to factory settings. Amanda CraigReset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone restarts, usually about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If this does not work, keep off power source for 1 minute. Try Reset again. If this does not work most often you have to connect iPhone to iTunes and Restore as it is telling you.

Itunes says my phone is in recovery mode just after restoring it?
My itunes always pops up automatically when I plug my phone in, and for the past 3 or 4 months it claims that my phone is in recovery mode everytime itunes opens. I have restored it countless times with no avail. My phone will turn back on completely restored and itunes will still state that my phone is in recovery mode. Meaning I cannot sync my phone whatsoever and it restores back to 7/29/2011 everytime. Any chance there is a solution to this?
If it is in recovery mode the data is already lost. Restore it, hopefully there is a current backup, and move on with life.

Okay, that sounds like the dodgy tracks have been getting damaged during the download.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items. -
HT1414 phone is in recovery mode but cannot restore with error code 21,26
After my latest update on my iPhone 4 my phone started just shutting down and restarting by itself. I have tried to restore the phone with the latest version of iTunes but now get the error message that iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode. Well that's fine, I selected recovery and when it appears that the recovery mode is going to go through the recovery mode returns an error code.
The first code I received is the error 1656, then a 26, then the final attempt I got an error code 21.
This phone has never been dropped, mishandled, or taken any physical damage. It was working great before I attempted to update.
Please if anyone else has experienced this let me know how you resolved these errors.

Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart. -

Never once has my phone updated without deleting everything. It says "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. I can't call for help because my phone is frozen on the screen with iTunes. Hello! I had lost my iPod touch for several months and finally found it. However, I didn't remember the passcode. Now it's disabled and says to connect to iTunes. iTunes is saying that I must enter in the passcode before it can connect. I tried following apple's instructions on putting it in recovery mode, but when the home button is held down, only the apple logo appears until the disabled screen comes up again.

Basically, I upgraded my iTunes to 9.0.3 yesterday. During this I got a message saying I should upgrade my iPod or something like that. During this there was an error, I can't remember what but then, my iPod disappeared from the devices. When I looked at the iPod it was telling me to connect with iTunes. When I did the computer said Computer found new device- Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode). However, iTunes doesn't recognise it! I have tried uninstalling itunes and many things. I can't get it to work again. Please help!
I have the same problem. Yesterday I connected my iPod Touch to my PC and iTunes prompted me to update the ipod's software to 1.1.2 (I think thats the new one?), I accepted and it proceded to download it. When it finished downloading it tried to update the software but for some reason it failed. An error message came up saying that the ipod will have to be restored. I went ahead and tried to restore it, it gave an option for restore and update, that didn't work. My iPod won't even turn on now, it just shows the iTunes icon and the USB cable. When I connect to my PC iTunes says its in recovery mode and the software tries to do the update, the iPod screen shows the Apple logo and the updating icon, the screen goes blank and the process starts again, after a couple of attempts an error message appears on screen saying an error occurred and gives an error code of 1611 (or something like that).
Holding down sleep and home together doesn't do anything.
What is up with it? I've tried the same thing in my girlfriend macbook and the exact same error happened. -
i started to update my iphone 4, and in the middle of the update, an icon popped up saying that "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. you must restore this iPhone before it can be sued with iTunes."

Check the date and time of the last backup. If it is recent you can restore it. However, if you mean you have the photos back in your Camera Roll then the backup was already restored. To get your music and apps back it should just be necessary to click "Sync".
