ITunes says "other" is 6GB on my iPhone...tried every solution here I could find!

Not sure if this is better off in iTunes or iPhone. Please advise about this, or maybe a mod can move the thread if they deem it necessary.
Anyway... I have, I'm guessing, a black 16GB iPhone (capacity reads 13.something GB) with my Macbook Pro 15".
My first question, which isn't as important, is about my audio usage. I have audio taking up 6GB, which confuses me because I have no voice memos and my music under Settings>General>Usage reads 1.4GB. What in the world is giving me the rest of the audio?!
But the real question is, my 6GB of "other." I've tried restoring, checking/unchecking the "automatically open iTunes when phone is plugged in" option, restarting my phone, restarting iTunes, restarting my computer, syncing and re-syncing. I've looked through my apps and I thought that this one app "Annoying Sounds" was filling up the space because it uses a ton of audio files (which I'm thinking may contribute to the audio usage? Not sure). I unchecked it so it would be removed from my phone but that didn't help either the "audio" nor "other" usage.. My apps themselves are only taking up less than 1GB of space according to iTunes' calculations. (Photos: 0.1GB, which seems accurate because I just backed up and deleted most of my photos.)
I'm stumped, guys.

Well, after hours and hours of searching and experimenting, I've FINALLY figured out the solution to my main issue. My music was doubling itself into the "other" for some reason.
I backed up my iPhone, then downloaded iExplorer to delete all of the files in the iTunes Music folder as well as all of the album artwork. I then opened iTunes, and there you have it, hardly anything in the "other" category.
The reason I decided to do this is because when I plugged in my iPhone and opened iExplorer, I noticed a TON of music there that I had deleted from my iPhone quite some time ago. iTunes wasn't detecting it, but iExplorer was. I advise anyone with an iPhone or iPod to check your device with iExplorer or any similar program (or if you're a total nerd, use Terminal!) to see if there are files taking up space.
I still cannot figure out how to delete the voice memos, though. There are around 15 still hidden on my iPhone, but I don't know where they are (iExplorer doesn't see them) but they are taking up space.

  • ITunes says there is music on my iPhone but it's not showing up!

iTunes says it is syncing with my iPhone, and it says there is music on the iPhone. However, on the 'iPod' section of my iPhone, there is nothing there! I have synced multiple times (am also having LOADS of issues with files that iTunes says are corrupted when I'm trying to sync, even though they will play quite happily through iTunes) and I have changed the cable I'm using to connect my iPhone to my PC.
    Can anybody help?

Oddly, when I disabled AdAware and Zone Alarm I stopped getting the corrupt file messages too.....anyone know why this might be?

  • I keep trying to update to iTunes 10.5.2 but it won't actually update. iTunes says I can't update my iPhone software without updating iTunes but iTunes refuses to update. Anyone know what to do?? Thanks

I have tried a zillion times to update itunes to 10.5.2 but it won't work. Under the "About iTunes" section it says that I'm still using itunes 10.4. What I'm really trying to do is update my iphone 4 software but itunes says I can't do that without first updating the itunes software, which it won't let me do. Anyone know how to fix this? Much appreicated.

Look at the system preferences for iTunes 10.5.3. Are you running 10.5.x (Leopard) or later? If you are then please repost in the iTunes for Mac forum.

  • ITunes says my computer is not authorized when trying to download my purchases?

    Hello,
My old computer just broke and I got a new one today. I downloaded iTunes and I'm trying to download my TV shows but iTunes says my computer is not authorized? What does that mean and how can I fix it?
    Thanks.

If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

  • HT4972 My phone doesn't show up in itunes or in my computer. I have tried every suggestion currently listed on this forum. My phone is basically worthless.

I can't get my phone to show up on any of my 4 computers. Used 3 different cables. Tried every suggestion on apple support site.

Ok, so its been a while since I posted anything on here. That's pretty much been because I've been too busy and didn't have time to do anything to sort out my problems with my ipod.
I did as suggested and ran full system scans for viruses, adware and spyware. There was nothing major wrong with my PC. I also tried to format my ipod through the disk management part of the device manager window, after taking a long time to recognise the ipod and try to format it (8 hours) it got to around 70% before failing. So I though I was doomed to bin the ipod.
However I tried again today, to connect to my PC and the ipod had run out of charge completely and displayed pretty much every unhappy icon possible: the sad ipod, the folder and exclamation, and the dead battery. So I plugged the ipod in for a few hours while I went out, and when I came back it was fully charged. From here I had no problem putting the ipod into disk mode and connecting to the PC. This time I could access the ipod as normal through the my computer window and simply told it to do a full format. This completed in less than half an hour, restored the ipod to factory setting and am currently waiting for itunes to put around 3,000 songs onto the ipod.
I have no explaination for why the problem has been solved save to say that running the battery down completely may have done the trick. Sorry this has been such a long post but I am very happy right now (saving £200 on a new ipod). I never even had to reinstall the itunes from my original CD version.
Lastly, a big thank you to all the people who offered their advice.

  • I installed the latest iTunes update. Now iTunes won't recognize my iPod. I tried every step in the trouble-shooting list and nothing works. Apple wants to charge me $35 just to ask them a question. What should i do?

I have tried every step in the trouble-shooting list, and nothing helps. What should I do?

I am having this same issue.  I have avoided updating it for months and now that I finally did this is what happens!!  My Ipod goes into charge mode, but then as soon as iTunes opens up to sync it says it knows there is an ipod connected but does not recognize it and it will stop charging and just go to the main screen that comes up when you turn ipod on.  I even tried Uninstalling and reinstalling like it says and that doesn't work.  When I uninstall it, it will let my ipod charge when I connect it to computer.  But as soon as I install iTunes again and try to connect it, it tells me the same thing.  Now I know why I never update to newer versions, so angry right now.  Apple needs to fix this problem cause I've had my ipod for less than a year!!

Sims sometimes go bad. You might want to visit your cellular provider, get a new SIM. You'll have to go through the activation process. If it still does the same thing, you might have an issue with the phone.

  • Itunes says i must enter passcode on iphone but iphone only gives option for emergency calls

My sim card is inserted and when I turn the iphone on it only gives the option for emergncy calls, when i connect to itunes it says the phone is locked and i need to enter the passcode on the phone but i cannot enter pass cose on phone as it doesnt give me the option.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You're gonna have to force the phone into recovery mode:
Turn your phone off. If you cannot turn off your phone using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When your phone turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons. Then, leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

  • While on recovery mode itunes says it cannot connect to my iphone and to enter my passcode, what do i do then?

i turned on my iphone holding the home button and connected it to my computer, on the screen it said connect to iTunes. iTunes then opened up on my computer and I pressed start recovery mode. on the top it started loading 1 item, half ways through the download it said iTunes could not connect to my iphone because of the passcode and I must enter it before I can connect with iTunes. I cannot enter my passcode because my iphone says disabled and to connect to iTunes, I also do not know my password.

Place the iPOo in recovery mode for the passcode issue. For recovery mode:

  • Help! iTunes says that I must erase my iphone because it's connected....?

    Hello!
I installed a new operating system on my computer (W-7), when I try to click the option to sync ringtones, podcasts, photos, etc. It says that my iphone is already associated with another computer and it will need to erase all data. Since it's the same computer, how do I go about letting itunes know that this is the same account?
    [email protected]

It isn't the same computer since you installed new OS.
It is linked by the data that iTunes had stored about the phone. By re-installing your software there is no longer a link thus the phone will have to erase.
I assume you backed up everything first so all your data should be on your computer to sync back.
