Itunes says that my iphone is already synced with with a different library

I have recently reformatted my PC. Stupidly i didnt make a copy of my iphone backup.
now that itunes is now reinstalled onto my pc, when i try to manage my iphone it pops up with a error message saying,
'The iphone is synced with another itunes library. Do you want to erase this iphone and sync with this itunes library?'
the problem is that if i erase the iphone i will lose all my music, contacts, and apps.
is there a way to tell itunes that the old library doesnt exist anymore? and import all the data from my iphone to the pc so a backup can be made?

The iPhone's backup maintained by iTunes does not include any iTunes content and it does not include any photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from your iPhone first, but your entire iPhone is not erased when doing so.
After reformatting your computer's hard drive, your computer is detected as a new or different computer by your iPhone.
Did you include your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data before reformatting the hard drive? If not, you should have. The iPhone is not designed or intended to be used as a backup storage device.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. With Windoze, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with syncing calendar events, or with Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only - the address book used by Outlook Express or Windows Mail.
If you don't have Outlook 2003 or 2007 available and you don't use Windows Contacts for storing contact info on your computer, before syncing contacts enter one contact in Windows Contacts. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select. Syncing contact with Windows Contacts is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. This way you will have all contact info available on your computer also which should be included with your computer's backup in the event your iPhone is lost or stolen.

  • I am trying to put the music from my ipod onto my new computer. After installing itunes and connecting my ipod touch a message comes up saying that my ipod is already synced with another library. What can I do to sync it with a new library?

I recently got a new computer and got rid of my old one. I am trying to put the music from my ipod touch onto my new computer but keep getting a message saying that my ipod is already synced with a library and cannot be synced with more than one. How do I access that library on my new computer and if I can't are their other ways for me to put the music on my ipod into my new computer?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

My Dell laptop hard drive crashed - when I go to sync my iPhone it says that my phone is already synced with another computer and can only be synced with one computer at a time. When I hit sync is says it will erase my phone and sync with the new computer which is blank. How do I get my phone to sync my contacts, pics, apps etc. over to my new hard drive without losing anything.

Yes, so what's confusing... Did you not restore the backup of your data, contacts, pics, apps, music, etc. to the new hard drive after you replaced it or reformatted it or whatever you did? If so, then you can just sync your data back.
If not, please try searching the forum. This has been addressed hundreds of times here.

  • (Mavericks) iTunes keeps crashing on sync "This iPhone is already syncing apps with "%1$S"

I updated my MacBook Air to Mavericks yesterday.  When attempting to sync my iPad2 and iPhone4 this morning, iTunes keeps crashing on me.
There seems to be some issues with what it thinks my computer name or my Apple ID is.  It keeps referring to them as %1$S
Check out this screenshot on the device Summary page of iTunes, It may be hard to make out the text since the image was resized upon uploading it:
The the top circled item reads "This iPhone is already syncing apps with "%1$S"
The second circled item is the incorrectly sized Check for updates button
The thrid circled item (left) are my Apple ID name and computer name, both referred to as %1$S
The fourth circled item (right) is the text "Do you want to allow this computer to access information on "%1$S".
Is anyone else having these issues after upgrading to Mavericks?  Any resolution?

Nevermind, found that there is also an update that Itunes needed this morning to be compatible with Mavericks.  After updating all is fine.
Not sure why iTunes update required for Mavericks was not included in Mavericks, but whatever.  Hope this helps anyone else who had this issue.

Just downgraded back to iTunes 10.7 and copied music from ipod classic to itunes using houdini, but how do i copy the playlists from the ipod when itunes says that my ipod has been synced to another itunes library?

Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.

Your contacts are being synced with you iPhone over the air from iCloud. Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on you iPhone

    Hello!
I recently just downloaded the 'Waze' app as a backup for my Garmin. I've read a few reviews that seem to rant and rave about how good the GPS app is. It is community driven and maps are constantly being updated by users. Plus it has a few other fun stuff in it (something similar to Gasbuddy where you can owe prices on the map). But like the person above me said, there is lots of useful free GPS apps in the App Store.
Oh and I may be wrong but I remember reading an article about Google being slower about updating its maps system--ie no turn by turn voice, which many people have had complaints about.
    Happy Searching!
Ps - if you switch I wouldn't go to Blackberry.

  • Itunes says that 5 computers are already authorized to be used with my account when trying to play music that will not sync to my Ipod, but when I go to deathorize all in the store, it says only one is authorized. If I deathorize in the store and Itunes

10 GB of the 30 GB of music on my computer will not sync to my Ipod. This started after I got a new PC w/ windows 7 on it. All of the music, that will not sync, is music I bought and paid for through Itunes. When I go to the Itunes store it says I have only 1 computer authorized (the one I am on). When I try to play the music that is not getting synced, it says that 5 computers are already authorized. I have tried deathorizing the computers from Itunes and Itunes store. I have also tried deauthorizing the account. I am getting the same result. I have tried DRM stripping software but all seem to need Itunes or WMP to play the music in order to be re recorded without the DRM. In my mind there must be some simple way to really get the computers deauthorized from my account and be able to play the music that I paid apple for. Does anyone have any suggestions or is this common for apple,s products to do?

In order to get those to work you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard, preferably the full 10.6.8 combo updater.

  • ITunes says that my iPod cannot be synced because I'm out of space, but the capacity display at the bottom shows I have plenty of space.

This image shows what's wrong. iTunes says that I need 1.74 GB more to sync, but the display at the bottom clearly shows that this isn't the case; it's the breakdown of storage on my iPod after a sync. What can I do?
iPod touch 4th gen running iOS 5.0.1.

It means you try to sync an amount of content to your iPod Mini that exceeds for 4 GB, or the amount of space that is available on the iPod.  See this article for more details.

Hi, I have a problem with my iPhone 4S, I make a clean restore to iOS 6.1.2 and now iTunes says that it´s and iPhone 4, I try to restore a few times more and it continues equal. I also try with other Macs and iTunes continue saying that it´s an iPhone 4.

Why do you need to do anything?
Itunes cannot make an iphone 4s and iphone 4.
If it is an iphone 4s, then nothing will change that.

  • ITunes says that my iPhone doesn't authorize my computer to access it

    Hi!
When I plug my iPhone in my MacBook Pro (with a new clean install of Mavericks) and I open iTunes it says that iTunes is waiting for autorization from the iPhone.
The problem is that nothing happens on the iPhone and iTunes just says that my iPhone doesn't allow the computer to acces it, and therefore I can't acces my phone from the iTunes on my computer.
I tried logout/login on iTunes, unplug/plug again, reboot and more and nothing changes, no acces to my phone ...
I don't know what to do anymore ...

  • Why does itunes say that my iphone has 9GB of video data even though I've deleted every video I've ever made

    Hello,
When I use itunes on my macbook to view the contents of my iphone 5, the bar at the bottom of the window that shows me how much data is taken up for different categories says that I have 9 GB of video data. The thing is, I deleted all of the videos that I've ever recorded on my phone, but itunes still says I have 9.15 GB of video data! I ejected my iphone and plugged it back in multiple times to see if it was a problem with refreshing, but that didn't work. Itunes also says that I only have about 3 GB of free space left and when I go to the settings on my iphone, it says the same thing, so I know that there really are mysterious files on my iphone taking up 9 GB of space. Also, both itunes and my iphone says that I have 83 video files. I've deleted as much apps as I could, just incase there were apps that had video files included in them, but that didnt really work. I also opened the video app in utilitties on my iphone and it said that I do not have ANY videos. I don't really know what else to do.
Is there any way to just see all of the files on my iphone? Itunes does not let me do that. It only lets me view certain files from apps like adobe reader. I need to find out what video files itunes is detecting on my iphone. Again, I've deleted all of the videos that I made on the phone by using the photos app. I never downloaded video files from safari either.
    Thanks in advance

since moving to the mac from windows, this seems to happen less. I also found that having some videos marked as "remember playback position" resulted in a lot of updates to the ipod when i had watched them through itunes.

  • I accidentally deleted my whole i tune library. I was able to retrieve the entire library, but all my play lists have dissapeared and iTunes says that my ipod is not synced with this computer. Can i sync my playlists from my ipod to my itunes?

i accadentally deleted my entire library (over 10,000 song) when i was trying to delete an old back up file off an external hard drive. Now when i open I Tunes and connect my ipod, a message says tht my ipod is not synced with this computer. This is the only computer this ipod has ever been synced to, so i don't know how to reconnect the two. I was able to restore all my music to the itunes library, but I lost all my playlists. I spent considerable time creating the playlists and they are stll on my ipod. Can I somehow sync in a way that my ipod can give the computer my play lists?

With your iPod connected to iTunes right->click on it's device name in the left hand pane of iTunes under devices and select Export Playlists.
