ITunes Seizes Up My Whole Computer

MacBook Pro Retina 15" (Late 2013)
2.0 GHz Quad-Core i7
8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM
256 GB PCiE Flash Memory
Intel Iris Pro 1563 MB
Mac OS X 10.10
iTunes 12.0.1.26
It's been happening quite a lot recently; When I have iTunes open and playing a song, all of a sudden, the music will stop with no command. I switch to the iTunes window, and I get the spinning rainbow wheel. I then switch to Finder or try to access my dock so I can force quit iTunes, then my whole computer is frozen. The last time this happened, my whole system crashed. Usually it just stays on the spinning rainbow wheel and I have to do a hard shutdown.
This is happening way too frequently. Does anyone have a solution?

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussion
I'm sorry to hear of your problems. However, I wonder if iTunes screwed up your computer? Perhaps there's another, core issue with your Hard Disk? Have you run any Hardware Diagnostics?

  • HT201272 Problem downloading an app in iTunes which I purchased through iPad mini. The iTunes try to download the app but it keeps freezing, not only the iTunes but slowing the whole computer.

I am using PC, Windows 7, updated to iTunes11.0.
purchased an app from iPad Mini for free, and then when I open iTunes in windows, it automatically try to download the app, and freezes.
I am not sure what is the problem behind, but the crashes certainly slows down my computer ( i7 quad core, with 3GB ram, after crashing it is slower than a P4 computer....)
Is it possible to Not Sync the app into itunes?

Did you manage to get it working mine disappeared after I while I managed to download it but now my laptop/iTunes won't recognise my iPhone!

  • Why does iTunes slow down my whole computer?

I did a quick search for this topic and couldn't find anything, makes you wonder.
Running iTunes on XP is like swimming through molasses.
I understand I'm running Apple software on a Windows platform and they're like at war or something...but seriously, a little professionalism would be nice. I just want to put songs on my shuffle...so I can go jog. I don't want to have to run a marathon before I even get out the door.
Is there some kind of patch, or update, or special download that isn't "iTunes for Windows" that...you know, can make my iTunes actually run on Windows? Thanks.

My PC destroys the minimum requirements for iTunes. Heck all I need it to do is maybe play music and transfer songs to my shuffle...which, I used to be able to do on my thumb-drive based mp3 player on any computer anywhere with zero software. Is there like an iTunes light?

  • I have the latest version of Itunes but it freezes my whole computer when it starts up

I have the latest version of Itunes but it freezes my whole computer when it starts up.  I have installed/reintalled Itunes but it still stops my whole computer when I start Itunes.

OK, so we rule out LSP then,
Try following steps one at a time and test your itunes:
    1. Restart computer, right mouse click iTunes icon and select "Run As Administrator", now try your itunes.
    2. If that does not work, check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    3. If that fails or you don't see ApsDaemon.exe in the Processes, refer to following article to remove SC files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    4. If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REPAIR.

You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

  • ITunes causing Beachball of Death bringing down the whole computer.

My iTunes problems started about 3 months ago. Whenever I use iTunes (playing a song, downloading a podcast, syncing my iPhone, etc...) I get the beachball which never goes away. iTunes finishes playing the song that is currently playing but I am not be able to do anything with the program itself. Initially for about 15-20 seconds I can switch to other programs like the Finder or Safari but eventually those become frozen with the beachball as well. After about 20-25 seconds the whole computer locks up. I have tried to force quit but cannot even get that dialogue box to do so. I eventually have to power down the computer manually (switch in the back) and turn it back on. This problem does not happen every time I use iTunes but most of the time. Tends to happen when I am trying to do multiple things. I can sync my iPhone usually without a problem. But it seems if I try to play a song as well then I will get the problem. I am running ITunes 8.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.7 on an iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of ram (installed by apple). This issues only happens with iTunes and no other program.
What I have already tried to fix the problem without benefit --
    1. Delete the iTunes Library and rebuilding it (multiple times).
    2. Reinstalling iTunes and upgrading to the latest version.
    3. Using the Disk Utility to repair the Disk Permissions and Repairing the main Disk of the computer where the ITunes Library resides.
    4. Checking the computer for viruses (Virus Barrier X5)
    5. Reinstalling Leopard and then upgrading back to 10.5.7
    6. Bought Disk Warrior -- installed it and Leopard on backup external HD and checked the main HD of the computer for issues with Disk Warrior. It fixed a few issues like permissions but nothing that fixed the problem.
    7. Deselected Movies, TV Shows, Audiobooks, Genius, Radio, iTunes DJ and Ringtones (I need Music, Podcasts and Applications) from the General Prefs -- made it faster but did not fix the problem.
    8. Deinstalled DIVX and Flip4mac.
My computer almost never froze before these past 3 months and I was real proud of that. Now I am just frustrated. Scanning the internet shows similar problems but not exactly the same. I am out of ideas. I will be eternally grateful for any other ideas that might lead to a fix. I am trying to avoid backing up and then wiping the HD and doing a clean install.

Same problem here. Jumped through all the hoops. This is my new, thought-it-would-be-a-real-efficiency-boost audio production machine. I've lost soooo much production time dinking around with this.

  • HT203175 My ITunes software on my Dell computer is not displaying the menu items or the windows content of my music.  The menus are active, but you cannot see the choices.  I suspect a missing font set.  Any suggestions before I trash the whole environmen

Loading the last two versions of the ITunes software to my Dell computer has produced unacceptable results.  None of the pull down menus are showing the menu choices and none of the content on my IPod Touch shows up in the appropriate window.  As a result, I have an interface with no functionality.  It does still sync my Touch but that is all.  I assume a missing font set.  Any suggestions on how to correct these issues.
I also now get a message that ITunes cannot play back anything on my computer and a request to reinstall the software - which I have done multiple times both the original and the upgrade.

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

  • I want to put music on my iPhone 4, but am not able to because I can not download the version of iTunes required because my mac computer is too old.

Am just having troubles in adding music to my new phone in that when I connect it to my computer it says that the phone requires the new version of iTunes being 10.5, but when I go to download this for my mac computer it says that this version of iTunes requires a different mac, meaning that my computer is too old.  So I am just wondering how I can get music onto my phone?!

You will have to upgrade your operating system version and possibly your whole computer.  We cannot provide more information easily until we know more about your system.
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
Apple does tell you about required equipment for the iPhone -- in 8 point medium gray type on a light gray box.   The Store associates kind of automatically assume everybody is running a new model computer and the one I met when we bought our iPhone had never seen a pre-2008 Mac and was somewhat puzzled why anybody would own such an antique.

  • I have an Itunes account on my wife's computer; but now she wants her own Itunes account on this same computer.  How do I do that?

How can I set up a second Itunes account on the same computer.  I have my Itunes account on my wifes computer and she wants her own Itunes account on this same computer.    Since it's her computer and her Windows log on account, I don't want her to have to log in as someone else.   I have my Itunes account on my own computer...it looks like I might have to take Itunes off her machine (delete the whole program) and then reload with an entirely new account?

Of course you will want to back up through iTunes.   Because you're using the same computer and you don't your wife to use a different login, the only other option is that you will need to create a separate user account (in Windows) on that computer, open iTunes, and restore from the back up.   The two libraries will be separate through the user profile of Windows.    If you had a Mac it would be the same, because you just simply can't have two iTunes libraries coexist under the same user account at the same time.

  • Hello, I'm trying to transfer my old itunes library to a new computer using home sharing. It's switched on in both computers, but I can't see the old library in the new computer. But I can see tracks from the new computer on the old one. Please help.

Apologies for poor syntax, my arm's a little sore. Yes, one computer (old) is vista, new is Windows 8. Shouldn't I be able to import the whole library using home sharing? Am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance

I am having the same issue.  I recently purchased a new laptop and I have spent the last 3 days using the home share to slowly transfer all 22,000 songs.  However yesterday morning when I turned on both computers to continue the process I am having the following issue:
both computers are running the same windows OS (8)
both computers are running the same version of itunes
both computers are logged in with the same apple ID
both computers have home sharing turned on
Now however I can see the NEW computers itunes library in the drop down box on the OLD computer, however I can not see the OLD computers itunes library on the NEW computer.  I can no longer see "HOME SHARES" on the drop down LIBRARY list on the new computer.  I've taken the following steps to correct the error:
    reset the router
completely shut down BOTH computers and brought them back up
    reopened itunes
    re-logged in on both PC's
re-activated both PC's with home share
The articles and help from the apple sites are worthless and it says if you can't see a library just turn home sharing off then back on - I've completed the above steps NUMEROUS times.  After spending 4 days on transferring my music I really do not want to have to start over by using an external hard drive and then importing that way.  I would like some help on discovering why the new laptop is no longer seeing my old library. (When it has been working up to this point)
    Thanks in advance.

  • HT5318 Ever since I updated what looked like iTunes 10.6.1 my computer has been corrupted with Malware, which has filled up all available space on my hard drive.  What do I do to get rid of the Malware?

Ever since I updated what looked like iTunes 10.6.1 my computer has been corrupted with Malware, which has filled up all available space on my hard drive.  What do I do to get rid of the Malware?

First, reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • IPod sync freezes my whole computer

    Hi everyone
I'm having this really annoying problem of when I plug my iPod (120gb) into my computer my whole computer crashes, literally, I cant move the mouse, even the caps lock light on my keyboard wont come on or anything. I messed around with iTunes when it 1st happened and it worked again for about a week or so then it started to freeze up again. And I've tried all the usual 'resetting the iPod' and all the other stuff
Also, when I plug the iPod in not even the screen with the 'Do Not Disconnect' message comes up, the backlight comes on and the main menu or whatever screen I had on last appears and I'm still able to work the iPod as I normally would be able too
    Any help would be great
P.S. I don't know a lot about computers so I wont be able to tell you any information about it lol, sorry
    Thanks again, Jack
