ITunes sends me in a giant loop when I try to restore my iPod.

I am VERY annoyed. When I plug in my iPod, it either says that it is corrupted or that iTunes has found a problem and that I must restore it to the factory settings. So I restore the iPod and it says it's working and I get to a window saying that I need to recover the iPod. So I click continue and it says it's working. Next, it says that it has found an iPod in recovery mode, so I neeed to resore it to its factory settings. I do, and it sends me in a giant loop. I have even tried on my friend's pc, it still refuses to work. I've tried everything I can think of and dont want to uninstall anything.

The iPhone is in Recovery Mode, you need to restore it in iTunes

Are you trying to restore to a PC or an Mac? Either way, I'd remove iTunes, empty the trash, restart, and download/install the latest version. Also, check the versions of OS that the latest build of iTunes will work with.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. Ok, i've read through the answers that have been given for the error that comes up when people try to restore their iPod and get this:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
so i get that message when i plug in my iPod still...even after having gone to the Apple Store to try and get it fixed. They fixed the actual iPod but still no success with the computer. And every time I plug in the iPod i get the message about it being corrupt and needing restore.
But whenever i click "Restore" i get a message saying: "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found."
someone PLEASE help! I'm getting frustrated beyond belief here, i've tried the chkdsk stuff, and the bit about removing the iPod update software folder, if that's the same solution set, then i forgot what the other part was, but i've tried both of the suggested and nothing's working.

I got this under XP before. I was totally baffled until I realized there was a network drive mapped to the same place XP was trying to mount my iPod. The common symptom is that you'll get this sort of "corrupt" error on one machine but it works ok on a friend's machine. If that's true for you, you can change the network drive mapping to another drive letter (easiest) or mount your iPod and change its drive letter in the disk management control panel (under admin tools).

I don't know if this will help in your cae but I went through some similar frustrations when my iPod told me it needed to be resorted but iTunes either with crash or get an unknown error message. In my case leaving the iPod on to drain the battery did the trick. After draining the battery, when I connected it to iTunes it resorted fine.

Placing your iPod into recovery mode should allow you to successfully restore the device.
You might see these error messages if any of these are true:
Your device has a beta version of iOS.
You're trying to install an earlier version of iOS (downgrading).
Your device has unauthorized modifications to iOS, also called "jailbreaking."
Use recovery mode to restore your device to the latest version of iOS.

ITunes crashes when i try to restore my ipod

So heres the deal. A friend gave me an 10gig second gen iPod which it was formatted for windows. Some of the music would not sync to the ipod. The warning I got said the software on my ipod was too old to sync all songs. When i tried to restore or update the ipod, itunes would just close.
So, I reformatted iPod to mac os extended(journaled) updated iTunes to 7.2 (was 7.1.1) and iTunes still crashes when I try to restore or update. I get the folder and triangle.
I have spent the better part of this weekend trying to get this fixed. I have searched the forums here and tried everything that was suggested. Somehow I need to restore it but iTunes keeps crashing.
What else is there to do?

I don't know how far you got with your problem. But in the end I had so many problems with Lion and iTunes. I backed up all my stuff using time machine. Did a full format and reinstalled Lion. My problem has now gone. It'll take a day or two to fully get you back to where you are depending on applicatiosn and your data.
Another thing I had enabled was Disk Useage on my Classic. I unchecked that in itunes too after the rebuild and I didn't have any other problems too.
I'm not sure what the problem was, but I encountered unexpected Finder freezes and I needed a rebuild.
