ITunes Separating Albums

Hi
I'm having an issue with iTunes where it is separating albums. Essentially, it shows the same album twice with some songs in one album, others in another. I have used "get info" to try and make sure all the info is the same, i.e disc numbers, track numbers, etc. Nothing seems to work. Sometimes tagging it as "various artists" (even if it isnt) can help, but not all the time. Same thing for "marking as compilation".
How can I fix this once and for all?

Will I get all the album covers if I download the iTunes essentials albums or will I just recieve the iTunes essentials album cover?

Since no one seems to have answered ...
I get the impression that iTunes essentials are just lists of tracks.
iTunes uses the Artist and album information to determine the artwork so it should pick up the appropriate artwork for each track if the album and artist are correct.
Certainly this is the case for an album consisting of tracks from several albums - if the artist and album name are set to the original album.

  • Updating Album Art, when iTunes says "Album Artwork Not Modifiable"

How can I go about updating or adding album art when the Artwork area at the lower left corner of iTunes says, "Album Artwork Not Modifiable"? Every effort to add the artwork from iTunes has failed. When I paste the album photo from another site, it doesn't save.

I figured this out. I found that the folder and files only had "read" privileges and not "read & write" privileges. I did the following:
    1. In finder I right clicked the parent folder for iTunes and selected "Get Info".
    2. Selected my user and changed the rights to "read & write".
    3. This step is the most important. With my user still selected in blue, you click on the options "cog wheel" below the users, at the bottom. Select, "Apply to the enclosed items". It may ask you again if you are sure, say "yes". By doing this you will apply your users "read & write" privileges to all folders and files underneath your iTunes folder.
This worked for me and I wish you the best!

    Lots and lots of questions
The new Photos app in OS X should address much of this - it greatly simplifies syncing stuff across machines. Apple has details on it up here:
    https://www.apple.com/osx/photos-preview/
It says "coming this spring" and a pre-release version has already been made available to developer testers.

  • Problems playing Itunes lp album

Recently updated the version of itunes to 10.4.1 and I have trouble playing multimedia content itunes lpdeadmau5 album I bought recently. In trying to play the screen goes black and nothing happens. This did not go to the previous version.
    Help Please!!

    I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
I too was experiencing non-full screen playback between music videos / movies. I discovered that this only happened if I had en EQUALIZER setting for the music video / movie. Once I had NONE as the EQUALIZER setting my music videos / movies all played back full screen from one to the next.
Change your settings in the equalizer column as suggested and see if this works for you. It solved my problem, although I do not have my desired equalizer settings in operation!

  • How can I convert Itunes video albums tracks to ipod tracks

How can I convert Itunes video albums tracks to ipod tracks?

3pg is an odd format... That or I just never seen it before. :P
iTunes just ***** at converting videos. So far all videos I tried converting with iTunes have resulted in the same error you got.
You're better-off using 3rd party apps, and then copying to iTunes, and then copying to the iPod.
Unfortunately I don't know of any conversion programs for Windows.
If you by chance have a mac, this program works great: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/flv2itunes.html
The mac version of Handbrake below works great, hopefully the Windows version does, too:
    http://handbrake.fr/?article=download
When converting with handbrake, make sure to use the iPod preset for the out-put video.
    Hope this helps a little.

  • HT1351 When I import cds to itunes the albums do not contain all songs. If there are multiple artists or a duet, each song shows up as an album.

When I import cds to itunes, the albums do not contain all songs. If there is a duet, each duet is listed as a separate album.
As an example," Genius Loves Company" or "Tuskegee" each are listed as many albums---each album has a separate song.
I spoke to Apple Help and they were of some help, but did not answer the question.

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

What are you trying to do exactly and how are you trying to do it?  You want to view artwork for tracks that on your iPod in iTunes? Why would you want to do that when you can just do that from your main iTunes Music library?

  • ITunes Embedded Album Artwork Management

I have purchased an iPod Touch 4th generation (iOS updated to 5.1.1) and I have a few questions regarding the process iTunes uses to embed album artwork into mp3 files via the "get info" dialog.
    1. Does iTunes first resize** the chosen image file prior to embedding and then perform the embedding operation or is the image embedded without any prior modification?
**By resize, I mean two possible operations that currently come to my mind:
    - Reshape the image so that it has a 1:1 width to height ratio
    - Compress the image so that for example, a 1000x1000 px image gets converted to a 600x600 px one.
So does any such procedure take place in the <embedding> phase?
    2. Are there any repercussions to embedding artwork not having a 1:1 width to height ratio? For instance if I use a rectangular artwork instead of a square one, does it get displayed correctly on the iPod Touch?   on the iTunes? I am asking this because I remember reading somewhere that a 1:1 ratio was the recommendation for album artworks.
    (Found the link: http://www.ehow.com/info_12174326_wont-itunes-apply-album-artwork-movies.html)
    3. My final question is on how the artwork data is transferred to iPod during sync. Does iPod...
    a. read directly the metadata from the mp3 file's id3 tag itself to display the artwork on the screen, or
    b. read the cached image that is sent to it through iTunes. As far as I've been able to read through (and if I've understood correctly), when dealing with mp3's with embedded artwork iTunes first creates (from the embedded image) a cache of artworks in the user's Music folder for its own internal use.
So does iTunes pass a copy of this cached image over to the iPod during sync, or does iPod directly access the image information in the mp3 file's tag, without having to depend on iTunes for providing it with the artwork seperately from the mp3 file?
If the answer is b., a variant of the 1st question is called for:
Does iTunes apply any kind of modification - resizing**, etc. during this cache generation phase?
    Thanks!

    Hi Xi,
    1. Does iTunes first resize** the chosen image file prior to embedding and then perform the embedding operation or is the image embedded without any prior modification?
    1. No.  No operation is made by iTunes, the image will be added as is.
    2.  Yep, the picutre will correctly be displays wathever your ratio is.
    3. My final question is on how the artwork data is transferred to iPod during sync. Does iPod...
    3. Artwork is embedded in the media file, therefore it is transfered as the media file (audio or video).

  • ITunes Plus Albums

Is there a way to shop/browse all available iTunes Plus Albums; see what is available as an iTunes Plus album without having to search?

I don't think that's what Aaron meant. That link is for the standard iTunes Plus section which lists only the topp 100 Albums and Singles.
What I (and Aaron) want to know is when you do a search via the search box, can you limit the results to only iTunes Plus items.
I'm personally not interested in anything knobbled with DRM and 128kbs encoding and just want to see iTunes Plus items whenever I do a search.
Is there any way to limit search results to iTunes Plus?

  • Can I re-configure my iTunes artist/album settings en-mass?

All my music in iTunes has "Album Artist" as my main category to display the info' all my albums. This way, all my albums display in iTunes with the artist name above and the album title below. Now that I have an ATV1 connected to my TV, there is no "Album Artist" option to play my music, only "Artist" & "Album" etc.
Unless I can somehow get an "Album Artist" option in my ATV (which I doubt) my only other option I can see is for me to swap the information for all of my iTunes tracks/albums between Album/Album Artist/Artist. This would take many, many hours!
    Simple question therefore:-
Is there a method to swap around all this information for all my tracks without going through each one in turn?
For example, move the info' from "Album Artist" to "Album"?
    Thanks in advance.

Hmm, if I understand correctly then for say Animals by Pink Floyd you have entered Animals as the Album Artist and Pink Floyd as the Album title, and you now want to switch back to the conventional use of these fields? Or have you just left the Artist field blank?
Either way I could write a script for that. You'll find some of my existing ones here.
I don't have an Apple TV so I'm not sure exactly how it behaves, but Artist & Album Artist can have somewhat different behaviours in iTunes and various Apple devices, so you may need to do more work to get everything displayed neatly on all your devices. More on that in my article Grouping tracks into albums.
