ITunes Server and Nas Sharing with Devices
Does anyone know how to copy files from a Nas Share in itunes to devices (iphone/ipad)? I have managed to set up itunes server on a QNap Nas. The music files appear in itunes and play but I can't seem to manage my music directly from the share. I'm guessing the same will apply to video too?
Currently running latest versions of everything on macbook pro retina 15".
Help!!
Hmmm, I'd give it a try, easy enough to move the FW drives.

When I first opened my itunes acct. i was sharing with my daughter. some time ago she got her own acct. i thought i should get my own too. so for the last several years i used my new acct. i reciently wanted to add some new cds to my ipod and it said that some of the songs that i purchased were no longer there. and were associated with a different acct. so i tried to log in to my old acct. but it asked for my birthday and the one i entered didnt match the records, and i no longer have the email address from the old acct to email me so i can reset the password. i have well over 100 songs that i purchased back then and i cant believe i cant get them back!! someone please help me. i love my music and i really want my other songs back.
Contact AppleCare at 800.694.7466, and ask for account security. You will need to answer some questions to verify your identity, AND you will need access to a computer to generate a temporary support pin.

HT4557 Win 7 with iTunes, iPad3 and Home Sharing Problem
Hi All
I have a Windows 7 PC with iTunes installed and Home Sharing turned on. I also have an IOS 6 Ipad (New or 3) with sharing enabled. They are both on the same wireless network.
After a total uninstall and fresh instal of iTunes on the PC, all sharing works fine with all albums and artists displayed, and it plays tunes perfectly. Within a couple of days, the iPad only displays a small number of my albums, and they wont play. The 'loudspeaker icon' in 'Music' just skips down the list of songs, playing none.
I have tried, different versions of iTunes, different pcs (with Win 7), a different router but get the same issue each time.
Anyone know what is happening. I did only notice this after the compulsory download of IOS 6....
Regards
SjHI had the exact same problem between my two Windows 7 computers when I updated them to iTunes 10.1 - the shared library would show up on the side in iTunes, but when I attempted to open it, it would say it was loading for a while and then disappear.
I solved the problem by first turning off Home Sharing on both computers Advanced->Turn Off Home Sharing (act name).
I then deauthorized the iTunes account associated with my home share on both computers Store->Deauthorize This Computer...
I then reauthorized both computers Store->Authorize This Computer...
I then turned Home Sharing back on for both computers Advanced->Turn On Home Sharing
After following these steps, I am able to use home sharing again. -
After doing the IOS 7.1.1 update on my iPad 4 the screen just shows the iTunes icon and a cable with an arrow. I can't get the device to open. Can someone help me with this issue? Thanks!!
Yes. The phone will be back to default settings.
Once the phone is up and running you can try and restore your backup again.

running 10.4.11... do I need to/can I upgrade in order to get iTunes 10 and sync latest ios5 devices?
If you have the following you can upgrade to Leopard:
Leopard System requirements
You must have a Macintosh computer with:
an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4 (867 MHz or faster) or G5 processor
a DVD drive >built-in FireWire
at least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended for development purposes)
a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
at least 9 GB of disk space available, or 12 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
If you meet the following you can upgrade to Snow Leopard:
Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
And, lastly, if you meet these requirements you can upgrade to Lion:
Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
You must upgrade to Lion to use iCloud. -
Can i use icloud as a server and share files with others as it was possible before?!
iCloud does not provide general file storage and sharing. You will need to find a third-party alternative - this page examines some options:

How do I transfer my MacBook Air to my wife so she can sync her iTunes account and other settings with her iPad Mini?
You can change the account shortname to whatever you wish to use.
As you can see from my example above. Once you click on the Create User button a new account will be created.
She will need to get her own Apple ID setup so when she starts with iTunes she can open her own iTunes account unless you both want to share the use of the same Apple ID. This can create a bit of confusion if you have your own iPads or iPhones or iPods. As you have discovered it's pretty much one iDevice with one Apple ID.
As for the iTunes library that becomes a more complicated issue. -
When you get a apple receipt for itunes songs and you paid with a itunes gift card do they charge you or give you store credit what's store credit is it good or bad or does it charge you if you have a free account with no credit cards at all is it bad?
iTunes credits are, for example, if you download a song from the store and it's found to be corrupt - if the track can't be fixed then iTunes support will tend to give you a song credit for a free download.
When you purchase music from the store then any credits that you have will be used first, then any balance that you have (e.g. from iTunes gift cards or allowances), and any remaining amount will be taken from your credit card. -
Back to My Mac/VNC/Screen and File Sharing with a PC
Ok back to my mac is great but it doesn't work with a pc. What is the best alternative to screen and file sharing with a PC???
Thanks,Use VNC.
On the PC.

On the PocketPC

Apple's Remote Desktop allows for VNC control through a password.

My mom helped me to create my iTunes account and load it with a 50$ gift card and now I wanted to purchase a one month subscription at the AYI dating web service but apple never let them take money from my account and I was declined, don't know why?
You have posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question is not related to. I suggest you contact the web site from whom you wish to purchase the subscription.

My husband wiped out the library on his itunes account and replaced it with mine. Any ideas on how to get it back? Our laptop does not have his library either. only mine.
How exactly did this happen? Were you using separate iTunes libraries on separate user accounts on the laptop?

HT201412 it shows itunes logo and usb cable with arrow after that it switch off itself
iPAD shows itunes logo and usb cable with arrow after that it switch off itself
If the Restore doesn't work, force your iPad into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off iPad
2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad -
I am looking for step by step instructions to configure my mac mini server to support the following:
1. Central itunes server for all my devices (ipad, ipod, iphone, etc.)
2. Central file server so that my windows devices can save and retrieve data from the central system (the mac does not show up in the network for the windows systems - all running windows XP or 7)
Thanks,
KeithYou will need to enable file sharing in System Preferences
as well as setting up sharing and permissions for the
directories that you want shared. You may also want to
setup a non-administrative user or allow limited guest
access. The user would require entering a user name and
password to make the connection, but would allow remotes
to change files, if set up tat way.
As for serving iTunes media, better to post in the iTunes forum. -
I have 11 computers all pc's linked to an old windows server and all used primarily for microsoft office and printer sharing as well as for internet browsing. Can an apple joining the setup cause compatability issues?
HI,
grey-haired IT guy here, old enough to come from the counter culture. I ran (COO, including IT & compliance) a third billion dollar financial institution all on Macs 15 to 20 years ago. All the "experts" had a long list of reasons it would be impossible, and it drove the examiners nuts, but it's only gotten better.
So your benefits are going to be mostly in ease of administration after the learning curve, less aggravating glitches, better overall reliability, and arguably better security. And reductions in cost and improvement in time to implement changes.
In my current environment of mostly dozens of PCs, the moment I let the OS X Server be the domain master controller, the Windows network browser settled down and instantly showed network neighborhoods like it should have. (We may have some forgotten pre-NT machines plugged in somewhere -- this is NOT a financial institution).
Couple anecdotes might explain the feeling of coming in out of the cold: Putting a test copy of a web site from the cloud onto the Mac server, XAMPP or MAMP is pretty much already there. The site has a couple WordPress blogs, and they need .htaccess files, and Apache needs an option set to permit remapping URLs. After much searching far and wide to find why it didn't seem to be working, I found the checkbox right there on Apple's management screens. Much easier than editing .conf from command line. Linux web admins hate it.
Tale # 2: We aren't fully Windows domain controlled -- just using the old network browser. Need to upgrade that, and I Googled quite a while trying to understand what needed to be done to use Apple's Open Directory instead of setting up an Active Directory on Windows -- both SLDAP3. Turns out one reason I couldn't find much is there isn't much to say: it just works. Just join the domain from a Windows machine.
One more and I'll be quiet a bit. We use the Wiki collaboration which is nice enough as far as it goes (no spreadsheets, fatal flaw) and it occupies the server's native web site slot. So the test copy needed to be another site. Easy enough -- site setup is all GUI and works fine, but WordPress could not handle a multiuser blog coming to a non-standard port (other than 80) so I needed a second IP multihomed on the server. How do you do this? Go to Network in the System Prefs, click on the Ethernet interface and select "duplicate". Set your IP address. Done.
In summary a Mac OS X Server is a better server for a Windows shop than Windows Server 200x.
My bottom line for choosing Apple: lower blood pressure. I SHOULD be money. After all is said and done, it's about money. The incredibly more pleasant experience is a free benefit. You'll pay more for better hardware, but way less in time and trouble. And you won't be hounded on a daily basis to update the system. Not that Adobe or Firefox are any better about it on a Mac, but the Apple approach to updates stays in the background.
Think different. Simplify. Focus. Enjoy your work. -
Itunes library and NAS - multiple computers and merging music
I've just bought a Western Digital myBookWorld edition 2TB network drive, and I've gone through (the incredibly painful) process of moving my music from my desktop to the network drive. But now my desktop looks to the network drive for it's music and it seems to be working ok.
My girlfriend has a laptop, which is always connected to the network (don't travel with it at all) which has a different library of music. At the moment on that laptop she uses the iTunes server element of the NAS drive and so plays my music by using the shared bit of itunes.
What I'd quite like though is both computers to use the network permanently - so when I buy songs on my gf's laptop, I'd like that music to be available on my desktop, so the most sensible way to do it would seem to be having both computers using the network drive as it's primary source of music, rather than using the sharing bit on the laptop.
I can't just copy the music off the laptop to the network drive because there will inevitably be singers with the same names etc, and I presume it will overwrite what's on the drive if I try to do a windows copy and paste. So is there a way that I can merge the music libraries, by adding the songs that are on the laptop to the songs already on the NAS, and then have both computers use the NAS as their location for storage?
A further complication is that my gf has her own playlists etc (and her ipod syncs with her laptop whereas my iphone connects with my desktop) that I'd like to maintain if possible.
Grateful for any thoughts.I've just bought a Western Digital myBookWorld edition 2TB network drive, and I've gone through (the incredibly painful) process of moving my music from my desktop to the network drive.
