ITunes Server on a NAS...I don't get it...please help!

I currently have all my iTunes files (including the library file) on a small network drive. iTunes is set to point there for storing music and the library file, so any computer on my network can access the same library and info. All is well.
Recently, I started looking into getting a nice, big RAID 1 NAS for redundancy purposes, and I have come across some (like a D-Link and a Buffalo Linkstation Live) which claim to have a "built-in" iTunes server.
I guess I'm really confused as to what a built in server does that I haven't already set up myself with a network drive. I was just going to copy all my files on the new NAS, and set iTunes to look on that mapped drive for the library file and all the media files. So what does the "built in" server do on top of that? I can't figure out if this capability is something that should affect my decision to go with a particular NAS or not...please help!

I have the FD GeForce 1TB NAS set up as Raid 1. When I check the "itunes server" option, it simply showed the library in iTunes under shared libraries. I think it also made a distinct share for the library, even though I had already made one. So I turned the option off. I have all of my music on a share called "iTunes". If I have other computers in the house I'm sure they will still be able to see the music since iTunes can search for shared libraries. In other words, I'm not sure what the "iTunes server" option does that you can't do on your own. I think it just makes it easier for some.
Now after reading some posts, I suppose that other users would have trouble writing to my itunes library over the network, especially if it shows up as a shared library. Maybe that is the point of an itunes server? I'm not sure I want anybody writing to my library.
On another note, how can you point your itunes library file to another drive? I moved all the iTunes files to the NAS, but each time I open itunes it recreates the library and .xml files on the macbook HD. If other users can't find the library file, will they be able to listen? So all of the iTunes system files are on my local HD, but I have an artwork folder on the local and NAS, but I'm not sure which one it is using, do you know?

The response and the links provided by 'wrongway peachfuzz' instruct me to change artwork in itunes using 'get info' and artwork appears correctly when I follow instructions. But when I subscribe from another mac, the artwork does not appear.
I have read the response often sent by 'wrongway peachfuzz' at least dozen times. His instructions don't even require me to log in. If changing it in 'get info' would work, couldn't spammers change the artwork on every podcast to a picture of george bush or some ad for refinancing?
Subscribers won't 'get info' to see the correct artwork. I want subscribers to be able to see my artwork in their 'album' view or their 'cover flow' view.

Anyway -
I think I see your point of confusion here: you were trying to change the artwork from your page in the iTunes Store, correct? (Hence: . . .+instructions don't even require me to log in+. . .) My friend, this is not done from your iTunes Store listing, okay? The steps that I have laid out in previous posts are done way before your podcast ever shows up in the store.
Let's walk through it step by step:
1. You record a podcast onto your computer.
2. You edit the audio for speaking errors, format the bit rate, etc.
}}}}Right now, your podcast is just a file, sitting on your computer. It hasn't hit the web yet, and you *have not* updated your XML file.{{{{
3. You take the file that is sitting on your hard drive, and drag it into iTunes.
4. You follow the steps for changing artwork that I have given previously.
5. You upload your podcast file to a server where people can download it.
6. You update your podcast feed/XML.
See, the thing is, *no one* can change the files from the Store. That is how no spammers are able to access anything. The changes are made to the file before you upload it. And thus, when people download your file, they are getting your podcast and +the artwork that you attached to your podcast+.

Using an "iTunes Server" on a NAS drive for several users
Like many others I'm trying to make a single drive containing my iTunes media serve different iTunes users round the house.
Will the following work? Comments welcomed.
Currently my iTunes Media Folder and media live on my main PC. About 130Gb in total.
I'd like to get a NAS drive that has "iTunes Server" functionality and put this NAS drive on our home network. Then I'd like to move my iTunes media folder location into the 'iTunes Server' folder on the NAS drive. I'd also like to transfer all the data files associated with iTunes to the NAS drive. I believe with iTunes 10 that shouldn't be a problem and that I can contunue to use iTunes on my main PC as I ever did....it's just the media and data files will now all reside on the networked NAS.
Now I'd like to point all the iTunes on the other PCs in the house to the networked iTunes Media folder and the networked data files. Then presumably they will boot up and be able to access everything just like my main PC.
I understand that if more than one PC tries to edit the data files and iTunes media folder then corruption will inevitably result. I wondered if this could be prevented by using access rights management to all the networked iTunes files so that only my main PC can actually edit anything, add music, etc.
That way I hoped that I may manage the library successfully, create playlists as required and have all the other PC users enjoy my work but without screwing it up!
Maybe an iTunes data file can't be read by two instances of iTunes at the same time? Perhaps a second PC reading the data files can cause a corruption, if my main PC happens to be editing those files at the same time?
In essence I want all iTunes related files on the NAS drive. I want all PCs(with iTunes) in the house to have full read-only access to the music, playlists etc. However I would like my main PC to remain as the sole machine that administers the iTunes library and related files.
Looking forward to any help. Like others I've spent many hours trying to ascertain the best way to share a single iTunes media store around the house.
I know I could leave my main PC on and have the other PCs get at the content that way. However the power consumption of my desktop setup is not insignifcant and we will have a NAS drive running 24/7 anyway for other duties.

GeoffI now realise that if what I propose will work then "iTunes server" is not required on the NAS. However if the iTunes Media Folder was placed in the "iTunes Server" on the NAS then other media players like the ROKU could access the files?

You've managed to permanently damage the phone. As gdgmacguy suggests, buy a new one. Preferably from a legitimate source.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

I've just updated my iPhone to the new iPhone OS and now it won't work and iTunes won't recognise that it's there. I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled twice and it's not working. Please help.
I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version. I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again. I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again. My blue tooth doesn't work either. I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this. When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue. My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!! I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue. Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it. Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple. -

Hi there,
No I didn't. Someone suggested in another thread that my iPod was registering as a disk instead of a device, so if I removed my iPod as a disk on Disk Utility then it would reload etc. and show up in iTunes. Which it didn't, and instead just cleared all my music (16,000 songs).
So frustrating.
Hope if you have the same problem you are able to find a better solution! -

If the screen shows a plug going to itunes, then you have no choice, It's in recovery mode. You'll be given the chance to restore from a backup either from itunes or icloud.
I assume when you got the message to update (was this for the ios or update some apps?), that was before the device when dead. At any rate, doing a restore does not change the ios. -

You may want to try restarting to see if that has any effect Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

I am getting the same message when I try to install the latest version of iTunes, I am running on Windows Vista Home Premium. I have tried so many different things to try to correct this and have now completly unistalled it from my laptop..... Now I have no iTunes what-so-ever on it and still can't install it. I found an older versin of iTunes and it installed without any problems, but I can't access it because my library was created on a newer version! Talk about frustrated..... WE NEED HELP!!!!!

iPhone 5 requires iTunes 10.7 or greater to sync with your computer. You need to update iTunes on your computer. If running OS X, this requires OS X 10.6.8 or greater...Snow Leopard.
