ITunes Setup Assistant

OK, so, I was having a little bit of a graphical issue with iTunes whereby the Preferences window and Get Info... windows were using the old Windows Classic theme. So I decide "A reinstall should do the trick"
So I reinstall, restart and then try to open iTunes and I see the iTunes Setup Assistant. And it just sits there, and sits there. I can't click the next button
I've tried:
- reinstalling both iTunes and QuickTime again and again (didn't work)
- downgrading iTunes (did work)
- downgrading QuickTime (didn't work)
I could just stick with an earlier version of iTunes, but I would like to be able to use 7.5

I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 531 and was trying to download itunes into my new computer but ran into problems. I had itunes on my previous Dell with Windows XP with no problems. However, I get a message saying that iTunes75setup is not a valid Win 32 application when I go to install it. Can you clarify why I'm having this issue and how to resolve it? Thank You

The, as soon as i go to open it again i have to repeat the whole process!!! By the way, i have already tried re-installing itunes and every other apple device completely on my computer, but nothing is working!!! ANY HELP WILL BE MASSIVELY APPRECIATED!!! Ps. this only just started happening a week or so ago.

This just started happening to me last week also. After I went through the setup process I could get into my itunes but would get a msg about library not being saved due to user not being an administrator. I went into my program files opened the itunes folder right clicked on the itunes music folder and clicked on "Run as administrator". I haven't had a problem

  • ITunes Setup Assistant Warning Dialogue Box

I upgraded to version 6.0.4.2 and now a dialogue box appears each time I start iTunes.
It is titled "iTunes Setup Assistant" and has the following text: Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.
It does go away when I click on the Ok button and I can import and burn songs so it seems be just a nuisance. How do I get rid of it permanently?

    hi HaryCary!
Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.
for some advanced techniques for dealing with that error message, see:
iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
but if you'd prefer to try some quicker and dirtier techniques, you could:
    (1) reboot and repair
reboot the PC (very important!) and do a repair install of itunes. go to your add/remove programs control panel, select itunes, click "change/remove" and then select "repair".
    if no joy with that:
    (2) download and install the GEAR drivers itunes uses for burning and importing
    GEAR drivers
use the first link on that page, not the one that talks about "gearsec compatibility". if you have Norton Ghost on your PC, read the instructions very carefully. if you still run into trouble with Ghost after the driver install, see:
Message: "Insert the "Norton Ghost 10.0" disk and click OK." after installing iTunes 6

  • ITunes Setup Assistant runs every time I start iTunes 7.3.1.3

The past 2 iterations of iTunes have had the same problem for me - even though the program is installed already, it doesn't save my settings and runs the setup assistant every time I start the application. I've gone through the assistant twice and put everything as I had it previously but, once I close the program and restart, the assistant pops up again and my settings are gone. I never had this problem until 7.3 or 7.3.1 and it's very frustrating... (>_<)<br>

Well, iTunes appears to finally work correctly. I don't know exactly why this is but it's due to one of three possible things. First, I uninstalled the 2 programs that I had installed to monitor what music I played for their services. These programs were Last.fm for Windows Version 1.3.1.1 iTunes plugin version 2.0.11.0 and Virb.com iTunes Plugin Version 1.0.0.5. Finally, instead of using the Apple Software Update on my computer as I had previously, this time I went directly to Apple's website, downloaded the entire iTunes + Quicktime install package, and reinstalled from that. After doing so, the Setup Assistant ran again but finally remembered my altered settings upon program restart. Now that iTunes was working properly, I have reinstalled both plugins and they now appear to function properly without negatively affecting iTunes. I hope this helps people who have also installed plugins to monitor their music listening patterns and had problems with the latest iTunes update.

  • ERROR WITH ITUNES SETUP ASSISTANT

My iTunes got corrupted and I had to delete and re-install, when I did that I now get the Setup assistant every time I click on iTunes. I attempted going to my preferences to see if there was anyway to remove but unable to locate. Also, any changes I make under my preferences such as the file path gets reset whenever I close out of iTunes and re-open. Please help

I'm having this problem also. I tried following the instruction in the post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7973312&#7973312
however, I stopped short of reimporting all my music as AirForceEngineer did.
In the end, I couldn't get past the setup assistant.
    Still need a solution.
    Thanks.

  • ITunes Setup Assistant: What will happen?

I've recently transfered an iTunes library from an older MAc to a new iMac. Upon starting iTunes, the assistant wants to run. I've thus far simply clicked Cancel everytime it starts, but it seems this is an indication to iTunes that it has not completed, and returns every time iTunes starts.
If i let it complete, what will it do to my library and or settings? I'd like to be not bothered by it anymore but I also don't need it's help.
    Advice?

Just let it run and tell it not to gather your music or do anything else.

  • Error message from itunes setup assistant

When I open iTunes to sync my iPod-Touch, I get an error message regarding the registry and suggest that I re-install iTunes.
Message: Warning. The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.
    OK
I have reinstalled iTunes but the message continues.
I do not burn CD's but I would like to have this message quit showing up. What do I need to do.
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your response. I followed the regedit procedures. There were no lowerFilters Key or UpperFilters Key. There also was not a Value data field. When right clicking in the field, I have an option menu that allows for "new" entries. My options are as follows: Value - Key, String Value, Binary Value, Dword (32-bit) value, Qword (64-bit) Value, Multi-string Value and Expandable String Value. Do any of these Values meet the criteria of the Value you are suggesting, and if so, which one could I use if I chose a "new" value for the GEARAspiWEM?
When the ITunes was first installed I was not able to access the DVD drive, and found a solution on a web page, so at that time I deleted the LowerFilters and UpperFilters, but do not remember any changes to a value entry, if there even was one at that time.

  • ITunes Setup Assistant Error!

Running Windows 7 and Nero 9 and receiving this error when starting newest version of iTunes. "Warning - The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I installed Nero 9 and it's working great. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times, and nothing seems to help. Does anyone know which specific registry entries are causing this conflict or another way to reinstall iTunes successfully? The DVD/CD drive is working perfectly except for iTunes.

"Warning - The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
Hmmmm. I've got links to XP and Vista instructions for that, but nothing that specifically says it's for Windows 7.
Here's a link to the Vista instructions, which might help with your investigations ... *but proceed with all due caution!*

  • ITunes 7 Setup Assistant appears at every iTunes Startup

Everytime I start iTunes, the Setup Assistant asks setup questions. It seems that most setup information it collects plus other setup options entered in "Preferences" is not remembered when iTunes is shutdown. I have not seen this specific problem addressed in this "Installing & Updating..." forum so I thought I would start this thread.
    What I have tried:
    1. Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes 7.
    2. Removing and replacing "iTunes Library.itl" with my last working version.
The problem is still there. However, after performing #2 above, it does now seem to remember that my library is located on HD "H:" and not the default "C:". Other settings are not remembered though and I still get prompted with the "iTunes Setup Assistant" each and everytime I startup iTunes. Any help in correcting this problem would be appreciated.
    Dell Dimension 4100   Windows XP

I tried deleting the 2 files with the following results:
    1. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref was present but had a date of 9/12... the date I originally updated to iTunes 7.
    2. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref did not exist...
    3. I noted that both folders containing these files are marked "read only". (Is this proper?) I did try removing the "read only" but was not successiful. That attribute returned every time I checked.
    4. Neither of these 2 files have been rewritten even though I have restarted iTunes several times.
I am still being asked the same questions at each startup. I dont think I mentioned that while iTunes is installed at the normal default location on my drive C:, my music library is located on my external H: drive where it has been for better than a year now. iTunes is remembering its location.
You suggested I try setting up a new library... I assume I will be able to recover my original without much trouble. It's not huge, but I do have several thousand songs in it.

  • Pesky pesky reoccuring "iTunes Setup assitant".

    what I have:
    -iTunes v. 7.6.0.29
    -Windows vista
    -iPod touch
I have the most recent iTunes build version 7.6.0.29 on my Vista Machine. No hacks, nothing unusual. Everything has worked fine until recently. I did not do anything that I can think in regards to dramatic system changes.
The problem I am experiencing is every time I start iTunes (no difference from the start menu, desktop shortcut, automatic load) I get an annoying "iTunes setup assistant" dialog box. Selecting "cancel" leaves my library as is BUT all my iTunes setting are back to default. I also notice my iTunes account is not signed in as it was automatic before.
Selecting any other option drastically causes discrepancies in my iTunes library (if not wipe it out all together).
    What I tried:
    -Backed up everything.
-uninstalled iTunes, then reinstalled it. It worked for a while then back to square one.
Ugg, I tried searching this forum with no valid answers to this conundrum. Let me know if you have any other suggestions

  • Getting iTunes Setup Asssistant "Download Album Artwork" Message On Startup

I have upgraded to version 7. Now everytime I start iTunes I get a 'iTunes Setup Assistant' box pop-up talking about downloading album artwork. I then have to click cancel or OK before iTunes loads. This is very, very irritating. How do I stop this???

I think that the iTunes database in your Windows user profile might be corrupted. I managed to solve the problem by creating a new database and reimporting my songs into the library. The album art downloaded automatically after that.
    1) Check the Automatically download missing album artwork is selected on the General tab in iTunes preferences
    2) Close iTunes
    3) Rename the iTunes folder (usually found in +My Music+)
    4) Reopen iTunes (this creates a new iTunes folder in +My Music+)
    5) Copy and paste the contents of your music folders (+iTunes Music+ folder) into the newly created +iTunes Music+ folder
    6) Reopen iTunes and select File > Add Folder to Library > Browse to your iTunes folder in +My Music+ > OK
Your music will then be imported into the new iTunes database and the album art should be downloaded automatically.

  • How do I bypass setup assistant?

When I recently re-installed my OS, I migrated (by hand) my iTunes library into the proper place before running iTunes for the first time. I then hit cancel when the iTunes Setup Assistant came up. I believe I have done this previously without problems.
However, this time I get the setup assistant every time I launch iTunes. If I hit cancel, all is fine - my files and settings are all there that had been migrated. But the setup assistant keeps coming back...
Is there a way to let it know I don't need it?

I don't now how to switch that off, but have you tried just letting it do what it wants?
Answer no to all the questions and it should not come back the next time you run iTunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT201269 Best Buy started the setup assistant on my new iPhone 5 and now I can't make it sync with iTunes.  How can I reset and start over?

I bought an iPhone 5 at Best Buy, and they started the setup assistant process.  Now I can't go back and start over so I can sync my phone to my iTunes account.  I have an old iPhone 3GS and didn't use the iCloud.  I backed up to my computer.  And now I can't reset my iPhone 5 to sync to my iTunes.
    Help.

I purchased a iPhone 5, and after completing a backup of my old iPhone 3GS, I in error selected Set Up as a New iPhone in the Setup Assistant.
I connected to iTunes and did a Restore iPhone, which set the iPhone5 back to factory defaults, and I was able to restart the Setup Assistant, and following the apple support instructions, restored from my 3GS backup and synced with my iTunes account.  The Restore kept my phone number intact.
I was worried that I would lose the setup of my phone number that was done in the store, but everything worked perfectly.

  • TS4062 After using Setup Assistant, devices no longer appear in iTunes for Wifi Sync

I'm trying to fix an issue that is the result of a bug I disovered, and I'm out of ideas to troubleshoot. I'm hoping you guys will have some more suggestions, perhaps deleting plists or somehow resetting iTunes device syncing so I can start over.
    The bug:
Using Setup Assistant to transfer data over from my other parition which had iTunes configured to sync my devices causes the new partition's iTunes to NOT show devices in iTunes. When I plug my device in, the option to sync over Wifi is still enabled, but unplugging it still doesn't keep the device displayed in iTunes. Unchecking Wifi sync, clicking Apply, checking, clicking Apply and disconnecting results in the same problem - device disappears from iTunes. But if you go to Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, the Sync Now button is not grayed out. Clicking it starts the sync, but it never gets past the "Looking for iMac" stage.
I'm in the process of filing this bug with Apple, but I want to include the steps I've followed to fix the issue so they know.
What I've attempted so far (in this order):
    Quitting and relaunching iTunes
    Restarted my iPad
Then forcing a sync on the iPad via Settings is the same result, endlessly looking for the iMac
So then I opened AirPort Utility, clicked my Time Capsule, then clicked Base Station > Restart. After the Time Capsule restarted and the Wifi was working again, I checked back in iTunes to see if the iPad showed up - it didn't.
So then I turned off Wifi on the iPad, Quit and relaunched iTunes, then enabled Wifi on the iPad and it still didn't appear.
Note that the exact same thing is happening with my iPhone.
    iTunes 11.0.2
    OS X 10.8.3
    iOS 6.1.3
    Thanks guys!

Not even deleting plists, essentially resetting iTunes, solved the problem.
In case anyone has troubles with this and none of the troubleshooting steps worked, here is your last resort, which finally solved the problem for me.
    Use Terminal to delete iTunes:
    cd /Applications/
    sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/
    Download and install iTunes
The iOS devices magically appear in iTunes, without needing to plug in via USB to enable Wifi sync.
