Every time i try to open itunes i get the 'Itunes Setup Assistant' even though i have already installed and configured itunes. And after exiting this i get onto itunes but all of my music is GONE. (even though i know i can always import it back) But this means that whenever i want to use itunes i have to configure it and import all of my tunes again which takes ageees. The, as soon as i go to open it again i have to repeat the whole process!!! By the way, i have already tried re-installing itunes and every other apple device completely on my computer, but nothing is working!!! ANY HELP WILL BE MASSIVELY APPRECIATED!!! Ps. this only just started happening a week or so ago.

This just started happening to me last week also. After I went through the setup process I could get into my itunes but would get a msg about library not being saved due to user not being an administrator. I went into my program files opened the itunes folder right clicked on the itunes music folder and clicked on "Run as administrator". I haven't had a problem
since. Don't know if this will work for you but I guess it won't hurt. good luck.

  • Sudden problem with iTunes quitting - problem and solution

This is a fairly lengthy diatribe but it was driving me nuts and so hopefully will help someone else:
    The Problem:
I have an XPS M1710 running Windows Vista. A couple of days ago all Apple programs started to malfunction, specifically iTunes, QuickTime. When I try to start iTunes it quits immediately and I get the message “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available”. The same thing happens with Quicktime. When I go to Internet Explorer this works fine until I go to the Apple website and try to Download iTunes (to reinstall) or even to go to the Apple Support page, Then the Apple site seems to “force” IE to quit. The same thing happens when I use the Apple Safari Browser (works generally but quits on Apple iTunes or support site). I am not sure if it is relevant but we bought some iTunes songs online in the last couple of days using another laptop. That machine is still working fine as are two other laptops in the house re iTunes (they are Windows XP Dells, my machine is Windows Vista). I received an email receipt on my XPS for the purchases in the usual fashion. I can open it, but when I click the links to the iTunes site it doesn’t work (does work using other computers).
I have performed 2 system restores (to 2 and 4 weeks ago – long before the current problem) but this did not help. I have uninstalled iTunes – but even so still could not directly download the iTunes setup.exe from Apple. I did eventually get it from a third party link. Using the downloaded file I reinstalled iTunes but exactly the same problems persist. On one occasion I let the “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available” dialogue box sit for a while – the system identified some Apple updates needed which I downloaded and installed (in fact I had done these probably a week or so ago anyway but the system restore would have reverted that). This still did not fix the problem.
Today I phoned XPS support. I was initially told to leave my number and someone would call me back. 2 hours later no-one had so I phoned again and got someone who suggested doing a full scan disk (ie by getting into diagnostics at startup by pressing F12). I did this – no problems found. The person had also suggested trying to access iTunes using a different logon account. I switch on “guest” account and tried from there but the same problem persisted.
I have checked Windows Defender and Windows Firewall and as far as I can see iTunes is allowed to access the internet. No sign that it is deliberately blocked. As far as I can tell from the Windows updater the system is up to date (as it was when the problem first happened, and not fixed by rolling back many updates via the system restores).
I have run a full Virus check using Kaspersky (with latest updated database) and nothing was found.
So, no matter what I try, my computer is suddenly blocking everything to do with iTunes (and Quicktime), including Apple’s own support site. The failure of iTunes or QuickTime to launch happens whether or not I am connected to the Internet at the time. All other programs seem to be working.
I would be very appreciative if you could help. I have been unable to find any online solution, although one person may have had a similar problem, no resolution was evident.
    The solution:
I have only just now solved the problem (two weeks down the track). The Dell technician that I spoke to over the phone tried hard but we could not get the issue solved completely, although the problem with accessing the iTunes website we did solve by turning off some internet explorer add-ons. As it turned out the problem was with QuickTime. The clue was that although I had attempted to uninstall iTunes + Quicktime many times the QuickTime component never disappeared. So when I reinstalled iTunes + QuickTime (which I did many times) the problem remained. After again uninstalling iTunes + QuickTime (by going to control panel, selecting iTunes and uninstall, then QuickTime and unintstall in the usual way, and realising that QuickTime did not uninstall properly, I then selected QuickTime and chose the "repair" option at the top of the control panel dialogue box instead of uninstall. After that I was then able to open QuickTime properly, and then when I reinstalled iTunes it worked! This had been driving me nuts, and I was on the verge of re-installing the operating system. Can I suggest that you enter this solution into your database for future reference.

I was wondering if you ever fixed this problem? Today I went to open itunes and it started installing it and said it couldn't access the file ja.lproj/ea0423.rtf which would be the Japanese language version. I just wanted to know if I should do what was suggested to you or if that didn't work.

  • New ipod more frustration trouble with downloading itunes setup

I have had this ipod 3 days now and before I pitch it, give it away or post on ebay, I need help. I am getting more and more frustrated.
For some reason I cannot get the itunes software to download to my laptop, the one I am using to type this message. I'm using Windows XP pro. AOL internet connection through broadband with AT & T. Everytime I go to the download site, I click on the proper one and click the down load button. Not matter if it set it to run or to save, the setup does not download to my computer. I have tried as I said both run and saving to a folder and then opening the folder and tring to click on it to set up and nothing happens. I have checked my control pannel and then gone to add or remove software and in the entire listing there is no itunes showing. When I do a computer search for itunes it only finds the itunes in the ipod folder I set up on the desk top to download it into and save. I just won't download and install. I have tried to click on the setup in the folder I created on the desk top but it just does not install. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be??? Is there a CD that I can download the set up needed to use this ipod???
I have done everything I can think of, I have done a disk cleanup to get rid of temp internet files, junk and run my spyware program. My computer has no viruses. After doing these, I still can't download the setup itunes software.
I do have have another laptop available, and I can try that one, but before I try downloading the itunes setup on my other computer, can someone tell me why I can't download the setup to this computer????
I am frustrated, can someone help !!!

I solved the problem, it seems that Quicktime was not properly installed on my computer. Even thought it showed when I looked in the control panel under add and remove software, it was there, but it was not working. I went to the quicktime tab at www.apple.com and downloaded quicktime again. This time I got a blue Q in my lower righ hand corner of my screen, so when I click on it the quicktime screen comes up and is working. I then downloaded the itunes 7.0.2 and it downloaded and set up fine, now I am just waiting for all my music on my computer to conver to itunes.

  • Pesky pesky reoccuring "iTunes Setup assitant".

    what I have:
    -iTunes v. 7.6.0.29
    -Windows vista
    -iPod touch
I have the most recent iTunes build version 7.6.0.29 on my Vista Machine. No hacks, nothing unusual. Everything has worked fine until recently. I did not do anything that I can think in regards to dramatic system changes.
The problem I am experiencing is every time I start iTunes (no difference from the start menu, desktop shortcut, automatic load) I get an annoying "iTunes setup assistant" dialog box. Selecting "cancel" leaves my library as is BUT all my iTunes setting are back to default. I also notice my iTunes account is not signed in as it was automatic before.
Selecting any other option drastically causes discrepancies in my iTunes library (if not wipe it out all together).
    What I tried:
    -Backed up everything.
-uninstalled iTunes, then reinstalled it. It worked for a while then back to square one.
Ugg, I tried searching this forum with no valid answers to this conundrum. Let me know if you have any other suggestions

  • Getting iTunes Setup Asssistant "Download Album Artwork" Message On Startup

I have upgraded to version 7. Now everytime I start iTunes I get a 'iTunes Setup Assistant' box pop-up talking about downloading album artwork. I then have to click cancel or OK before iTunes loads. This is very, very irritating. How do I stop this???

I think that the iTunes database in your Windows user profile might be corrupted. I managed to solve the problem by creating a new database and reimporting my songs into the library. The album art downloaded automatically after that.
    1) Check the Automatically download missing album artwork is selected on the General tab in iTunes preferences
    2) Close iTunes
    3) Rename the iTunes folder (usually found in +My Music+)
    4) Reopen iTunes (this creates a new iTunes folder in +My Music+)
    5) Copy and paste the contents of your music folders (+iTunes Music+ folder) into the newly created +iTunes Music+ folder
    6) Reopen iTunes and select File > Add Folder to Library > Browse to your iTunes folder in +My Music+ > OK
Your music will then be imported into the new iTunes database and the album art should be downloaded automatically.

  • ITunes Setup Assistant

OK, so, I was having a little bit of a graphical issue with iTunes whereby the Preferences window and Get Info... windows were using the old Windows Classic theme. So I decide "A reinstall should do the trick"
So I reinstall, restart and then try to open iTunes and I see the iTunes Setup Assistant. And it just sits there, and sits there. I can't click the next button
    I've tried:
    - reinstalling both iTunes and QuickTime again and again (didn't work)
    - downgrading iTunes (did work)
    - downgrading QuickTime (didn't work)
I could just stick with an earlier version of iTunes, but I would like to be able to use 7.5

I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 531 and was trying to download itunes into my new computer but ran into problems. I had itunes on my previous Dell with Windows XP with no problems. However, I get a message saying that iTunes75setup is not a valid Win 32 application when I go to install it. Can you clarify why I'm having this issue and how to resolve it? Thank You

  • Itunes compatibility problems?

I am having problems with my itunes compatibility settings, apparently. Whenever I open itunes, a window opens telling me that "itunes.exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. For best results, turn off compatibility mode for itunes before you open it". Then, itunes will open but the colors on my computer will become very distorted and the images will look three times as big as they are supposed to.
I have gone to "properties" in itunes setup and turned off compatibility mode, and also tried every combination of older versions of windows and different color settings. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes about 10 times. I just got a new ipod nano, too, and tried installing itunes with the ipod with the installation cd, but nothing seems to work.
    It's really frustrating!
If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate your advice!
    Thanks!

    Dell xps 400 Windows XP

Just double-checking... make sure this is what you've done:
    Go to:
    C:\Program Files\iTunes
RightClick on the icon for iTunes application
    Compatibility tab
"Run this program in compatibility mode" is UNchecked
    Click OK
    Restart the computer
    Try to open iTunes.
If this is the case, make sure you have Service Pack 2 installed on your Windows XP.
Click on Start, right click on My Computer and click on Properties.
If you need to update go to Start -> All Programs -> Windows Update
If you're up to date and compatibility mode is off, you may need to reinstall.
    To Uninstall:
Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
    Select iTunes, click on Change/Remove
    Go ahead and remove it
(NOTE: Your music files are saved in \MyMusic\iTunes)
Once it's done, go ahead and download/install from the site

  • ITunes setup on a NAS with multiple windows users - how?

iTunes setup on a NAS with multiple windows users?
I am very confused on what is the best way to handle this setup for my friends family.  Any help would be appreciated.  Sorry in advance as I know this is a long winded post - I have a feeling this will help others faced with the same issues or questions.
    CURRENT SETUP
I have three new Windows 7 machines networked (two desktops and one laptop) that have four users on each - as busy family with children who need the computers for homework, projects, games, etc...  The goal of this setup is that any user can log onto any computer and have there documents available to them no matter computer was free to use.  I set this up using the library function in Windows 7 and seems to work pretty well.
I have put a Buffalo Linkstation NAS on the system as well.  This was going to serve two purposes 1)  run some backup software to protect the computers and 2) consolidate the iTunes content in one place for all users.  There is also an iPad in the home that I should would be better served by accessing the content on the NAS without requiring any of the computers being on.  Dave is thinking about getting some other playback devices like Apple TV so thought a NAS would be a good way to go.
CURRENT ITUNES SETUP - I have created a new iTunes library on the NAS by holding the SHIFT button down while starting iTunes and pointed to that folder on a Share on the NAS.  There was no music on the system at the time as we are planning to copy this over from an OLD machine that is now not being used.  I have also authorized all the computers and turned on the home sharing feature (although I am not sure what good that does).
This “shift” button trick seesm to also point the default directory there without point to it in the advanced setup tab of iTunes.
I then synced one of the iPods with purchased content on it and synced that to the library after asking me to do so before an update.  All the content showed up in the library and was playable - awesome.
I then logged into each user on each machine (yikes) and installed iTunes  and used the “shift” trick to connect each users iTunes to the database on the NAS.  Everything seems to work - but I have not tested it thoroughly.
    SUMMARY
3 new Windwos 7 networked machines
4 identical users on each machine
    1 TB Buffalo linkstation
iTunes setup with the folder on a SHARE
all user’s itunes connected to the iTunes folder on the NAS
all computers authorized with home sharing turned on.
one iTunes user account signed in on each machine
multiple iPods and one iPad in the system
    QUESTIONS/CONCERNS
Is there a better way to do this on a NAS?
Would home sharing be better in some way?
I understand the NAS should show up under the shared section in iTunes - I assume that would mean that would mean each user has an iTunes library on their documents?
I have read that there may be corruption issues if users on the different machines try to access iTunes at the same time.
Will there be any issues syncing that various iPods with?
Ugh - sorry for the long post and all the questions.  I am just trying to find the best way to do this.  I wish Apple would put out a best practices document for setups like this.  Thanks in advance.

This is a user to user support forum. Your fellow users can offer solutions or workarounds based on their experience with the application. If you think it should work differently drop a line to iTunes Feedback.
For reasons unknown Apple haven't chosen to allow iTunes to be suspended in one profile and active in another. My recollection is that this applies even if each profile has a different library, although it is some time since I've committed a personal test.
I'm not sure why my suggestion make less sense that your current approach?. As I understand it currently everybody is either signed into their own account when they can do something other than work with iTunes, or they sign into the special iTunes account where they can't access any of their other stuff. You don't have to disable fast user switching. Follow exactly the same steps, but make sure everyone closes iTunes before turning the computer over to another user. Disabling fast user switching helps to enforce that action.

  • I need to upgrade my 10.5.1 os on my G4/1.25 (I'm having some audio-midi setup problems), but it's a machine that is not connected to the internet.  Do I have any options?  Thanks!

    Friends,
I'm having some audio-midi setup problems on my G4/1.25/10.5.1 machine.  I'm thinking that a routine OS upgrade might help.  However, this machine is not connected to the internet.  Are there any alternate methods for upgrading system software?  Thanks in advance!

OK, what you should do is download the updates on another machine and burn them to a disc.  Start at this link http://support.apple.com/downloads/#leopard for downloads and find, among other things, the 10.5.8 combo updater that works on PPC machines, plus security, QuickTime and other updates.  Going from 10.5.1 to 10.5.8, there will probably be a bunch of things that you should install.  Being off the internet with the machine, you can't have Software Update sort it out, so something might get missed, unfortunately.
My suggestion is this: if it looks like you might need a download, get it onto that disc.

setup problem, windows xp, firefox upgrade to 4 and asked to reboot but did not progress. keeps asking to restart even if I try to remove

    Hi marsano,
Usually the only reason it will ask you to reboot is if there is a file that must be modified that the updater doesn't currently have access to. You should try running the Firefox program once as Administrator:
    * Right-click the icon and choose ''Run as Administrator''
If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.
    # Download a fresh copy of Firefox from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/fx/ Mozilla download page] and save the file to the desktop.
    # [[Uninstalling Firefox|Uninstall]] your current version of Firefox and remove the Firefox program folder before running the new installer.
    # Run installer
Remember that you don't want to remove personal data when uninstalling. That way you'll still have your personal information.
    Hopefully this helps!
